Community Foundation of Northern Nevada

Established in 1998 as a Nevada nonprofit 501(c) 3 Corporation, the Community Foundation of Northern Nevada has distributed more than $200 million in grants and scholarships from over 300 charitable funds to strengthen our Nevada home. 

Scholarship Program

The Community Foundation of Northern Nevada’s Scholarship Program is intended to help students cover the ever-increasing cost of tuition. Some of our scholarships are based on financial need, but others represent an award for achievement. These scholarships typically go to students who have excelled in an academic area or have shown they can balance academics, volunteer work, and extracurricular activities. There are also scholarships designated for students who have overcome adversity, students pursuing degrees in high-need areas, and adult learners outside the traditional college age group. Community Foundation scholarships can help cover tuition, books, and on-campus housing.

NV Energy Powerful Partnerships Scholarship

To support the attainment of higher education for youth in our communities, NV Energy Foundation offers the Powerful Partnership Scholarship Program. The Powerful Partnership Program recognizes and encourages the accomplishments of outstanding high school seniors who have demonstrated leadership in academics and community service. NV Energy’s goal is to support tomorrow’s leaders’ educational achievements while creating a legacy of community involvement.

The NV Energy Powerful Partnerships Scholarship is offered to students who are graduating high school seniors in NV Energy’s northern service territory, including all communities served by NV Energy in northern Nevada. This one-time scholarship of $1,000 - $1,500 is awarded based on the program’s selection criteria and on the number of applications received. The scholarship will benefit the dependents of NV Energy employees and members of the general public. The scholarship may be used at any accredited university, college, community college, trade, or vocational school in Nevada. We encourage graduating high school seniors both in public and private schools as well as homeschooled to apply.

Dependents of NV Energy employees will be considered separately for a one-time scholarship of $2,000.

The scholarship recognizes the accomplishments of high school students who have demonstrated leadership in academics and community service.

Orville Belding Memorial Scholarship

You are eligible to apply for the Orville Belding Memorial Scholarship if you meet all of the following criteria:

• You are a student-athlete
• You were born and raised in Nevada
• Your family income shows a need for tuition assistance
• You are a Washoe County High School senior
• You have a minimum 1100/SAT or 20/ACT score
• You agree to maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA and provide a copy of your unofficial transcripts at the end of each semester you are receiving a scholarship

JCF Scholarship Awards are available for all students pursuing post-high school education and who are enrolled (or plan to enroll) in full-time studies for the Fall 2026 school year or for experiential travel in the upcoming year.

Who May Apply for JCF Scholarship Awards?

• Local Residents: An applicant's home residence must be in Burlington, Camden, or Gloucester County ("B/C/G County) in Southern New Jersey, but noting the following exceptions:
  • Stuart & Marylee Alperin Jewish Communal Service Professional Development Award: Must be a B/C/G County resident OR reside elsewhere in Southern New Jersey;
  • Jewish War Veterans Post 126 Award: Applicant may live outside the B/C/G County area, but is a child or grandchild of a JWV Post 126 member in good standing;
  • Col. David Marcus Memorial Award: Priority will be given to B/C/G County residents

• Candidates Who Qualify Based on Award Criteria: To determine which award(s) to apply for, a prospective applicant should review each award's criteria, and apply accordingly. Note that criteria can vary per award based on such requirements as an applicant's age, merit vs. financial need, gender, etc. Most, but not all, awards are for applicants of Jewish faith. An applicant may apply to multiple awards each year.
• Reapplying: Each award is for a one-year time period. Applicants may reapply in subsequent years to any JCF award for which they qualify.

Valerie Gladfelter Scholarship Award

The Valerie Gladfelter Scholarship Award is for Jewish girls and women residing in Burlington, Camden or Gloucester Counties who plan to enroll or are currently enrolled in a college or university degree-related program.

Reno Central Rotary Scholarship

Annually, the Reno Rotary club offers four-year college scholarships to graduating seniors from Hug, Wooster, or the AACT Culinary Academy.

The Reno Central Rotary Scholarship is a one-time $1,500 award, with the opportunity for the scholarship to be renewed with reapplication.

The Meruelo Family Scholarship

The Meruelo Family Scholarship was established to provide support for dependents of Grand Sierra Resort & Casino and SAHARA Las Vegas team members who are a graduating high school senior or who are enrolled in a college or advanced learning program.

The qualifying Team Member must be a full-time employee at a qualifying property, have a minimum of one (1) year of employment, and be in good standing with the company at the time of application.

A total of $40,000 will be awarded annually; $20,000 for dependents of Grand Sierra Resort & Casino team members and $20,000 for dependents of SAHARA Las Vegas team members. Five (5) awards in the amount of $3,000 and one (1) Diamond Scholarship award in the amount of $5,000 will be awarded by each property. Funds will be distributed to any college or university for the student's benefit upon confirmation of enrollment and upon completing and signing a scholarship acceptance agreement. This scholarship is a one-time award but is renewable with reapplication.

Josie A. Stewart Scholarship

To provide financial support to graduates of Perkins County and Corson County high schools.

The Josie A. Stewart Scholarship Fund was established in 2000 by the Stewart family to recognize outstanding students from Lemmon High School and honor Josie as a prominent educator in the community. For over 34 years, Josie taught, influenced, and impacted the lives of scores of students in the Lemmon area. Her passion for education followed many of her students after high school by quietly providing them with financial assistance for their college education. In 2015, the Stewart family expanded the scholarship to welcome applicants from Corson and Perkins Counties, extending the reach of Josie’s legacy as a champion of education.

The Benjamin Asbell Youth Award, presented by the Jewish Community Foundation, recognizes outstanding Jewish youth in high school who demonstrate leadership and serve as role models within their communities. Open to members of Jewish congregational youth groups, this award aims to inspire recipients to engage in Jewish communal life and promote the continuity of Jewish identity among peers. Nominations must be submitted by a youth group advisor or rabbi, supporting the development of future leaders.

The Branfman Family Scholarship Award, offered by the Jewish Community Foundation, supports students of all faiths from Burlington, Camden, and Gloucester Counties pursuing post-high school education. Eligible candidates, including graduating seniors and undergraduates, must have a minimum GPA of 2.5. Awards can be used for tuition, books, and living expenses, ensuring vital financial assistance for students. This initiative highlights the Foundation's commitment to community support and educational access.

The Ed & Stacey Rivkin Aspiration Award supports Jewish students pursuing post-high school education with demonstrated financial need. Established to honor Ed and Stacey's contributions to the Jewish community, this award assists recipients in covering educational costs such as tuition, books, and room and board. Eligible applicants must reside in specific New Jersey counties and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5. The award aims to empower future leaders by facilitating access to higher education.

Major General Duane L. 'Duke' Corning Scholarship

To provide financial support to scholarships established by the National Guard Association of South Dakota and the South Dakota National Guard Enlisted Association.

The funding for this scholarship endowment is made possible by donations from the South Dakota National Guard Officer and Enlisted Associations, honoring the memory of Major General Duane L. “Duke” Corning. It reflects his love and dedication to these associations, as well as his loyalty, dedication, and service to his state, nation, and fellow individuals.

The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) is inviting applications for the Collections Stewardship program, which aims to enhance the preservation and accessibility of essential physical and digital collections. This initiative supports projects related to conservation, digitization, and education in collections stewardship, fostering engagement in the humanities through improved resources and services.

The Freda and Sam Yacker Israel Experience Award, established by the South Jersey Hebrew Association, provides financial assistance to Jewish students aged 18-25 from Camden, Gloucester, or Burlington Counties. This award supports participation in college programs or recognized summer experiences in Israel. Applicants must articulate their engagement with Israel in an essay. Preference is given to those whose education begins after June 30. The scholarship encourages deeper connections with Israel through educational experiences.

The Furer-Barag-Wolf Post 126 Jewish War Veterans Scholarship Award supports children or grandchildren of JWV Post 126 members, providing merit-based assistance for college or vocational education. Eligible applicants must reside in specific counties in New Jersey or be related to a JWV member. The scholarship covers tuition, books, and living expenses and is open for reapplication annually. This initiative by the Jewish Community Foundation fosters educational opportunities for deserving students.

The Jaclyn Ehrlich Travel Experience Award, established by the Wolf Family in memory of Jaclyn Lydia Ehrlich, offers financial assistance to Southern New Jersey students pursuing social action trips or educational programs in Israel. Open to Jewish students aged 13 and above from Camden, Gloucester, and Burlington Counties, this scholarship supports those engaging with Israel through travel or study. Applicants must demonstrate their connection and intentions regarding their experiences in Israel to qualify for this award.

The Leonard Jay Hirschfeld Memorial Endowment Fund awards a graduating high school student from Burlington, Camden, or Gloucester Counties to purchase a laptop, software, or training in computer sciences. Applicants must demonstrate leadership abilities and submit two letters of recommendation. This award encourages local youth to pursue educational opportunities in technology, fostering skills essential for future success. Open to all eligible students in the specified counties, this fund aims to support their educational journey.

The Student Opportunity Scholarship Award honors the memory of Arthur & Eleanor Klein and David Rivkin, established by the Jewish Community Foundation to support Jewish students from Burlington, Camden, or Gloucester Counties. This award aims to assist those pursuing higher education or degree-related programs, focusing on applicants who demonstrate financial need. Eligible students may apply for various awards, ensuring access to educational opportunities and community support through this valued initiative.

The Stuart & Marylee Alperin Jewish Communal Service Professional Development Award supports individuals pursuing a career in Jewish Communal Service. Applicants must be residents of Burlington, Camden, or Gloucester County in New Jersey, or reside elsewhere in Southern New Jersey. Awards can cover tuition, professional development, and related expenses. This initiative aims to nurture strong Jewish community institutions by supporting competent Jewish professionals, reflecting the founders' commitment to the creative survival of the Jewish people.

The Seymour Siegel Youth Achievement Award, offered by the Jewish Community Foundation, provides financial support for high school students pursuing post-secondary education or vocational training. Open to applicants of the Jewish faith, this award prioritizes those from single-parent households, orphans, or foster children. Interested candidates must submit a personal narrative detailing their qualifications. The foundation, established in 1979, is a leading community resource in South Jersey, managing over $35 million in assets.

The Robert L. Schattner Scholarship Fund, managed by the Jewish Community Foundation, offers financial support to Jewish students from Burlington, Camden, or Gloucester Counties who are pursuing higher education. Eligible candidates must demonstrate financial need and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5. The scholarship can be applied towards tuition, books, or living expenses. The Patrice Faye Cohen Memorial Scholarship Award supports high school women from Southern New Jersey who are pursuing college education with a focus on entrepreneurship. The Mildred Soefer Scholarship Fund Award offers financial support to Jewish students from Burlington, Camden, or Gloucester Counties who are pursuing higher education or vocational training. Norm & Margo Meriweather Veterinarian Scholarship

To provide financial support to graduates of the Miller area pursuing a degree in veterinary science.

This scholarship was established to help South Dakota students, reach their goal to becoming a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. Preference will be given to a student who has been admitted to or is currently attending a School of Veterinary Medicine and plans to practice in South Dakota following graduation. 

The Oahe Racers Association Scholarship, managed by the South Dakota Community Foundation, is designed to support graduates of any South Dakota high school pursuing a degree in automotive. This scholarship prioritizes first-year students but allows second-year students to apply by specifying their status at a technical college. By providing financial assistance, the scholarship aims to ease the educational burdens for students in the automotive field.

Perry & Doreen Evans Scholarship

To provide financial support to graduates of South Dakota high schools with preference to high schools within Clark and Codington counties.

The Perry & Doreen Evans Scholarship has been established to provide financial assistance to students pursuing post-secondary education. First preference will be given to students residing in Clark County, with secondary preference given to students residing in Codington County.

Four $5,000 renewable scholarships for a maximum of four years to students attending a college or university. Student must maintain and provide proof of a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) and enrolled as a full-time student.

Four $2,500 renewable scholarships for a maximum of two years to students attending a technical college. Student must maintain and provide proof of a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA (based on 4.0 scale) and enrolled as a full-time student.
