Best Grants for Visual Artists

The Arts in Rural Places Grant, offered by South Arts, aims to enhance access to the arts in rural and isolated communities across nine southern states. Grants of up to $3,000 support public activities featuring Southern artists, requiring a dollar-for-dollar cash match. Eligible organizations must host at least two public events and engage a professional artist, promoting cultural engagement and artistic expression within these communities.

Scholarship eligibility requires students to attend an accredited 2 or 4 year public or private institution of higher learning. All scholarships are for full-time students, unless otherwise noted. Renewable awards are for 4 years of undergraduate study and cannot be used for post graduate coursework; all awards are paid directly to the school or may be used for book reimbursement.

The Foundation currently manages more than 100 scholarship funds that support hundreds of deserving students each year from Stark and Carroll counties. In 2025, more than $1,000,000 was awarded to local students to help them achieve their educational dreams.

The Velma Shotwell Griffin Memorial Scholarship Fund

The Velma Shotwell Griffin Memorial Scholarship Fund was established to assist graduates of Conotton Valley or Carrollton High Schools planning to enroll, or currently enrolled, at an accredited college or university to pursue further education in the following fields: History, Writing (not limited to, English, Journalism, Language Arts, Communications and programs in Mass Media), Graphic Arts, Music (which shall include but not limited to, vocal music, instrumental music, music history, music education, and music performance) and any other program or field of study approved by the Selection Committee.

The Melvin L. and Frances E. Tolson Scholarship Trust Fund

The Melvin L. and Frances E. Tolson Scholarship Trust Fund was established to assist students who are residents of Carroll County, Ohio in furthering their education with interests in either aviation, art education or fine and performing arts who are enrolled or accepted at a college, university, technical, or vocational school.

Harold Balazs Creating Wonder Scholarship

The Creating Wonder Scholarship is for graduating high school seniors in Spokane County who are planning to attend a post-high school program at full-time status. Applicants must pursue one of the following fields: Art, Art Education, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Interior Design, Advertising, Marketing, Photography, Cinematography, Publishing or Graphic Arts. Samples of artwork are required for the scholarship program.

This is not intended for performing art students. Talent, discipline, commitment, passion, experience and ability to express through art are primary factors for consideration. Financial need and academic achievement are also considered. Previous recipients of this award are eligible to reapply.

Each year, Innovia awards over $400,000 in scholarships to deserving students like you who are college-bound or pursuing vocational or technical training. Single scholarship awards range between $500 and $4,000.

Diversity in Advertising Scholarship

The scholarship is intended for students studying Marketing, Advertising or Design with a career focus of Digital Marketing, Advertising, Design and/or Computer Science at any accredited institution. Applicants must demonstrate academic achievement.

Special consideration will be given to those active in school activities, community service, and work experience. Previous recipients of this award are eligible to reapply. 

The Sam L. Cohen Foundation provides grants to support arts, culture, education, civic engagement, health services, and Jewish cultural initiatives in Maine. The foundation prioritizes organizations that serve underserved populations and promote community engagement. They fund projects up to $50,000, with an average grant size under $15,000. Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) nonprofits and other tax-exempt organizations serving Cumberland and York Counties. The foundation seeks to foster creativity, improve quality of life, and enhance educational opportunities.

The Helen Gertrude Sparks Charitable Trust Grant supports charitable organizations in Texas, focusing on the elderly, disabled children, the arts, and education. Established in 1971, the trust aims to uplift local communities through grants typically ranging from $5,000 to $15,000. Preference is given to organizations that do not primarily rely on government funding and those operating in Tarrant County. The trust awards 2-3 grants annually, promoting a rich cultural and supportive environment for those in need.

The Foundation for Delaware County works with individuals, private foundations, nonprofits, and businesses to move Delaware County forward.

Partners in Giving RFP

This collaborative effort between The Community’s Foundation (TCF) and The Foundation for Delaware County (the Foundation) is designed to support nonprofits serving Delaware County by reducing duplication, improving access to resources, and creating a more seamless funding experience. Through greater alignment of processes, shared expertise, and coordinated opportunities, nonprofits can more easily navigate support systems, strengthen their organizational capacity, while maximizing the collective benefit to the community.

Rather than duplicating efforts, TCF and the Foundation will work side-by-side to identify where joint action can yield greater results, whether through shared tools that make grant applications more accessible, coordinated timelines that reduce administrative burden for grantee partners, or aligned funding priorities that direct resources toward the community’s highest needs.

This approach fosters stronger relationships between the two foundations and with the nonprofit sector, builds mutual understanding of local challenges and opportunities, and reinforces the shared commitment to equitable, high-impact philanthropy in Delaware County.

This spirit of partnership is reflected in specific initiatives that make it easier for nonprofits to engage with both foundations and focus more of their energy on delivering impact.

Funding Priorities

For the 2026 Partners in Giving Grant cycle, this collective effort will consider awarding grant funds to organizations that focus on community development, health, hospice and homecare, support for cancer survivors, and youth development.

Eligible organizations may apply for funding under any of the funding priorities, selecting one area that aligns most closely with their mission and proposed activities. The application should demonstrate outcomes within at least one of the following types of outcomes:

Types of Outcomes

Safety Net – Provide basic assistance to ensure well-being and prevent dire outcomes for individuals facing economic hardship, health issues, or other challenges.

Preventive – Intervene before problems arise, reducing factors that lead to negative outcomes and enhancing protective factors that contribute to well-being and success. This can include Out-Of-School Time programming.

Systems Change – Target the root causes of social issues to change structures, such as public policies and regulations that enable systems to function better.

Organizational Development – Strengthen effectiveness and capacity through planned change in an organization’s processes, systems, structures, or leadership.

Eligible organizations may submit one application to support their efforts in advancing the funding priorities above. Organizations can apply for a single year only.

Partners in Giving: Youth Development

The 2026 Partners in Giving initiative will consider awarding grants of up to $10,000 to support advocacy efforts, initiatives, interventions, and collaborations that enhance protective factors and reduce risk factors, promote positive outcomes, and prepare young people to reach their full potential. Requests can include musical, theatrical, performance, visual, and other arts, as well as arts education, for youth in Delaware County.

All grant proceeds must be used to provide programs and services in and for Delaware County residents.

Community Foundation of Mendocino County

The Community Foundation of Mendocino County is a county-wide nonprofit organization that administers permanent charitable funds established through gifts and bequests from individuals, families, businesses, and other organizations.

The Community Foundation of Mendocino County Scholarship program provides scholarship opportunities for local students to help pursue their educational goals and achieve their higher education dreams.

The Community Foundation of Mendocino County provides scholarships for all seven regions of the county, as well as for specific academic and professional goals.

Kressa Jean Shepherd Memorial Scholarship Fund

Created by Sara and John Shepherd in memory of their daughter, Kressa, to support students with a passion for the arts (visual art, design, music, theater, and dance) who may or may not choose to study art at the college level.

About The Bronx Council on the Arts (BCA)

Founded by visionary community leaders in 1962, The Bronx Council on the Arts (BCA) is a pioneer in advancing cultural equity in The Bronx. From our early beginnings as a presenter of affordable arts programming in select Bronx neighborhoods, we have grown into a cultural hub that serves the entire creative ecosystem of the borough. Our programs serve artists, the public, and the field at large by building connections, providing resources, and advocating for equitable practices. Then as now, we focus on supporting the work of underrepresented groups – especially artists of color, women, and members of the LGBTQ+ community. Through this lens we offer affordable programs for seniors and youth and provide direct services to over 1,500 artists and 250 community-based arts groups each year.

About The Longwood Art Gallery

The Longwood Art Gallery is part of The Longwood Arts Project, BCA’s flagship program. Founded in 1981, it was one of the first alternative gallery spaces in The Bronx and to this day it maintains its pioneering focus on artists whose traditions and cultural practices are underrepresented by mainstream venues. The gallery derives its name from its original location at PS39 on Longwood Avenue. From 2003 to 2023, the gallery relocated to the campus of Hostos Community College. Since September 2023 Longwood Art Gallery is located in the Bronx Council on the Arts Head Quarters on East Tremont Avenue in the Bronx.

The Longwood Art Gallery predominantly showcases artists of color, women and LGBTQ+ artists. Its exhibitions explore Bronx history, intersectional Bronx cultures, and social justice issues facing our communities. The gallery also offers programs for youth and adults that encourage dialogue and explore exhibition themes in greater depth.

Open Call For Curators

The Bronx Council on the Arts (BCA) invites independent curators to submit proposals for our second 2026 Longwood Art Gallery exhibition, scheduled for June 10 – June 29, 2026.

BCA seeks to support and amplify diverse voices and narratives that reflect a strong commitment to environmental justice.

This exhibition will be presented at a renowned art space in Harlem, as part of BCA’s ongoing effort to build connections with other art organizations and expand opportunities for Bronx artists beyond the borough.

Art has the power to inspire, provoke, transform, and heal. Curators and artists play a crucial role in social and political movements, expressing their views on the world around them. In today’s visual age, they can be a powerful force for change. Curators work creatively by illuminating social issues, catalyzing public discourse, and bringing new audiences into activism.

For the 2026 Exhibition Season, BCA seeks projects and artworks that focus on a range of environmental issues, including racial justice, gender equality, environmental justice, food justice, body justice, and mental health, among others.

The submission may include artworks of all disciplines, including, but not limited to installations, video art, sound pieces, objects, sculptures, and paintings.

Columbus Matrix Foundation Scholarship

Since the early days of print journalism, The Association for Women in Communications has evolved to become the overarching professional organization to unite communicators across a vast spectrum of disciplines-from print and broadcast journalism, to graphic design, photography, public relations, advertising, marketing, new media, and much more.

Award Amount:

• Up to four scholarships of $10,000 payable over four years at $2,500 per academic year.

The Pittsburgh Foundation

Established in 1945, The Pittsburgh Foundation is one of the nation’s oldest community foundations and as of 2022 is the 18th largest of more than 750 similar foundations across the United States.

As a community foundation, its resources comprise endowment funds established by individuals, businesses and organizations with a passion for charitable giving and fulfilling the Foundation’s mission of improving quality of life for all in the region. The Foundation currently manages about 2,500 individual donor funds and, together with its supporting organizations and its affiliate, The Community Foundation of Westmoreland County, has assets of $1.386 billion (2022). Grantmaking benefits a broad spectrum of basic needs and development opportunities within Pittsburgh and beyond.

Scholarships

The Pittsburgh Foundation and The Community Foundation of Westmoreland County provide scholarship opportunities for local students to pursue their educational goals. Scholarships are available for graduating high school seniors, undergraduates, graduate, medical and professional school students who are attending community colleges, four-year universities and career/technical schools.

Elaine Sirkin Forbes Scholarship Fund

The Elaine Sirkin Forbes Scholarship Fund was created at The Pittsburgh Foundation to provide scholarships for high school seniors graduating from Allegheny County Schools who wish to major in visual, performance or media art.

Veterans Arts Services Grant

The Fulton County Department of Arts & Culture (FCAC) is pleased to announce a dedicated funding opportunity for nonprofit organizations that serve veterans through arts-based programs and activities.

As part of the 2026 Contracts for Services (CFS) funding cycle, FCAC is now accepting proposals under the Veterans Arts Services category. This funding opportunity supports arts programming that enhances the well-being, engagement, and creative expression of veterans across Fulton County.

Applicants may propose arts project activities taking place between January 1 and December 31, 2026. 

The Guilford Foundation Competitive Grant aims to enhance the quality of life in Guilford by supporting 501(c)3 organizations and governmental agencies. Its focus areas include arts, education, and human services. The foundation seeks innovative projects that address community needs, foster collaboration, and build organizational capacity. Applications from previous grantees are welcomed, but continued funding is not guaranteed. Priority is given to basic needs and community strengthening initiatives for 2024, ensuring impactful support for vulnerable populations.

The Helen Pumphrey Denit Charitable Trust Grant aims to support organizations that enhance education, culture, health, and human services, primarily within the Baltimore region. Established in 1988, it prioritizes grants for capital and program support, while general operating support is considered but less favored. Organizations must skip one grant cycle before reapplying. Certain requests, like those for debt reduction or individual support, are not eligible. Special preference is given to specific local institutions.

About GCAC

The Greater Columbus Arts Council supports artists and arts organizations through a spectrum of grant programs, workshops, networking events and services. GCAC also shares a host of resources such as calls for artists, job opportunities, nonprofit board openings and listings of spaces for rent. Legal Grant & Lawyer Referral Program

GCAC recognizes that artists confront a range of legal matters critical to their career sustainability and the protection of their creative works. In 2026, GCAC is offering a grant to assist with some legal expenses related to an artist’s art practice and art business. In addition, GCAC established a Lawyer Referral Service with attorneys who guarantee to provide our legal program grantees a flat fee of $300 per eligible legal service.

Purpose:

Assist artists with protecting their artwork and art business.

This Grant is open to:

Individuals who work in the following disciplines: dance, fashion, film, literary, music, theater, visual and multidisciplinary arts who meet GCAC’s definition of a working artist.

Award Amount:

$300 to pay an attorney for eligible services

The DustinLenker Memorial Scholarship, established by the Home Builders Association of Metropolitan Harrisburg, offers $2000 scholarships to graduates from Dauphin County Technical School or The Millersburg School District. This scholarship prioritizes students entering Visual Arts or Construction fields, particularly those with ties to Lenkerville Elementary. The program recognizes academic excellence and career aspirations, supporting youth in the Building Industry as they prepare for future workforce opportunities.

The Regional Arts & Culture Council (RACC) invites artists and artist teams to submit qualifications for a mural or low relief artwork at CityFleet's Swan Island facilities. Funded by the City of Portland’s Percent for Art Program, this opportunity includes a budget of $150,000 for two artworks: one for functional aluminum gates and a large-scale sculpture. RACC seeks to enhance cultural richness and support historically underrepresented artists.

The Southwest Gate Portal Artworks Grant invites artists to design and install significant artworks for the Houston Airports West Concourse Expansion at William P. Hobby Airport. This project aims to create six unique pieces that reflect Houston's diverse culture and vibrant spirit, enhancing the experience of millions of travelers. Commissioned by Houston Airports and Southwest Airlines, these artworks will form a vital part of the City of Houston’s Civic Art Collection, celebrating local creativity and identity.

The Southwest Suspended Artwork Grant invites artists to create a major suspended artwork for the Houston Airports West Concourse Expansion at William P. Hobby Airport. This public art will enhance the City of Houston’s Civic Art Collection and be visible to millions of travelers, embodying the dynamic spirit of the city. Artists are encouraged to draw inspiration from the interplay of natural light and the surrounding environment, reflecting the beauty of Houston's landscape.

The Bozeman Film Society Jack Stonnell Memorial Scholarship, offered by Montana State University, supports students pursuing degrees in Film and Photography. This scholarship is awarded to the top rising junior based on academic performance in key film courses. The award amount varies, encouraging excellence in arts and architecture, especially in film and photography disciplines. This initiative aims to foster creativity and innovation among aspiring filmmakers.

The Bob and Karin Utzinger Endowment for the School of Architecture at Montana State University supports students pursuing degrees in Environmental Design or a Master of Architecture. This endowment aims to foster innovative approaches to architectural challenges while enriching the graduate student experience. Awards vary and are intended to provide essential resources for graduate scholars who are committed to making significant contributions in the field of architecture.

The NYSCA/NYFA Community Arts Leaders Program provides essential support for 45 nonprofit arts organizations in New York State. This program, funded by the New York State Council on the Arts, offers workshops on governance, marketing, and fundraising, along with personalized coaching to address specific growth challenges. Eligible organizations must have 501(c)3 status and an operating budget under $1.5 million, with a focus on rural and BIPOC-led groups encouraged to apply.

The NYSCA/NYFA Artist as Entrepreneur Program, hosted by the Roxbury Arts Group, offers a unique professional development opportunity for artists and creatives of all disciplines. This free program, running from November 6-9, focuses on sustainability in the arts, equipping participants with essential tools for success in their creative endeavors. Open to all artists within commuting distance of Delaware County, this initiative aims to foster community and innovative thinking in the arts.

The Large Creative & Performing Arts Grants, offered by the University of Notre Dame's Franco Family Institute, support innovative arts projects led by faculty in the College of Arts & Letters. These grants are awarded biannually and prioritize projects that foster social engagement, explore sacred themes, or integrate technology with the arts. Eligible faculty can use the grants for materials, travel, and exhibition costs, enhancing the creative landscape and encouraging collaboration among scholars and artists.
