U.S.-based freelance and staff journalists, editors, and reporting teams can receive US $5,000 - US $25,000 to cover costs for in-depth tech-and-society reporting projects. Journalism professionals can access funding through Omidyar Network for travel, research, fact-checking, data access, multimedia, and stipends, especially on AI policy, industry accountability, impacts on families, and the workplace.

Journalists and media outlets in the U.S. can receive support for investigative and social justice reporting through the Sidney Awards, a program of the Sidney Hillman Foundation. Focused on journalism, this monthly honor provides a US $1,000 award for outstanding work across any medium that serves the common good.

High school seniors in the Greater Capital Region with a demonstrated interest in journalism and financial need can apply for the Michael Hurewitz Scholarship from the Community Foundation for the Greater Capital Region. This academic scholarship supports students pursuing higher education in journalism-related fields and may benefit those involved in school or community media programs.

Journalism students in the U.S. who can demonstrate a clear interest in journalism and submit samples of their work may be eligible for the Gene Robb Journalism Scholarship. This award from the Community Foundation for the Greater Capital Region is part of a universal application that connects applicants to multiple academic scholarship opportunities.

Full-time journalism professionals seeking to deepen their environmental reporting can access funding through the Environmental Fellowship Program in Boulder County, Colorado. Grants from Scripps Howard Foundation provide US $80,000 stipends for nine months of study at the University of Colorado Boulder, including auditing classes, pursuing an independent project, and participating in seminars and field trips.

Journalists covering forestry and natural resources in the U.S. can receive more than US $500 for outstanding reporting, including print, television, radio stories, documentaries, or books. Society of American Foresters offers this award with an honorarium, convention registration, and travel support, which may benefit journalism-focused organizations collaborating with individual reporters.

Journalism outlets producing U.S. health care affordability coverage can receive a US $15,000 Trade Journalism Award to recognize high-quality, original reporting for specialty audiences. The National Institute for Health Care Management honors work that offers new insights for health plans, policymakers, and related stakeholders, which may benefit nonprofits and media organizations advancing journalism in the U.S.

Journalism outlets producing investigative or general reporting on U.S. health care affordability and access can receive a US $20,000 prize for work published in 2025. The National Institute for Health Care Management supports national newspapers, magazines, websites, and nonprofit news organizations covering health care costs, access, and quality for key health stakeholders.

Local U.S. newspapers, magazines, their websites, and nonprofit news organizations producing journalism on health care affordability can compete for this $15,000 Local Media Award in journalism from the National Institute for Health Care Management. Entries must be locally focused, published in 2025, and provide new insights to improve health care access, costs, or quality.

The NIHCM Foundation's Television and Audio Journalism Award honors outstanding television and audio reporting that contributes to enhancing the affordability, accessibility, and quality of healthcare in the U.S. With a prize of $20,000, the award seeks entries that showcase creativity and originality while providing new insights relevant to health plans, policymakers, and consumers. Eligible entries include stories broadcasted in 2025, focusing on critical healthcare issues.

Journalism for Adventist Solutions (JAS) 

Journalism for Adventist Solutions (JAS) grants aim to promote ethical reporting and diverse storytelling by encouraging integrity, creativity, and journalistic excellence in Adventist communication through targeted grant funding. 

The JAS grant application is open year-round, with funds awarded annually each March and September.

Project Priorities

• Systemic issues in Adventism that demand investigation and fresh thinking
• Journalists and media organizations producing major stories on vital issues related to Adventism
• New ways to communicate the diverse Adventist-related stories of what God is doing
• Awards and recognition to celebrate journalistic achievements and foster a culture of excellence in ethical storytelling
• Evaluation methods to maintain accountability and ethics in Adventist communication
• Courses, workshops, and mentorship programs to enhance journalist skills, ethics, and innovative practices in Adventist communication
• Travel, technology, stipends and honoraria as relevant to the project request
• Other projects similar to the above

Applicants must agree to provide a post-grant report, including a full financial accounting of how JAS monies were used and agree to be audited if requested.

Native Forward awards are allocated based on the financial aid information provided by the institution’s Financial Aid Office. Awards can vary, ranging from $100 to $30,000 per academic year.

Native Forward Scholars Fund members of federally and state-recognized Tribes as well as first and second-generation descendants. However, Native Forward Scholars Fund scholarship opportunities have different Tribal eligibility requirements and can be determined by submitting a Tribal Eligibility Certificate.

Katrin Lamon Fellowship

This opportunity is provided to honor the life and legacy of Katrin Lamon.

The purpose of the Katrin Lamon Scholarship program is to provide financial assistance to eligible American Indian and Alaska Native graduate students pursuing degrees full-time at an accredited institution in literature, communication, journalism, or other related fields.

This opportunity is a need-based award.

Stark Community Foundation is one of the area’s major sources of college scholarship support— thanks to the generosity of caring individuals, families and businesses that have created scholarship funds.

The Foundation currently manages more than 100 scholarship funds that support hundreds of deserving students each year from Stark and Carroll counties. In 2025, more than $1,000,000 was awarded to local students to help them achieve their educational dreams.

The Velma Shotwell Griffin Memorial Scholarship Fund

The Velma Shotwell Griffin Memorial Scholarship Fund was established to assist graduates of Conotton Valley or Carrollton High Schools planning to enroll, or currently enrolled, at an accredited college or university to pursue further education in the following fields: History, Writing (not limited to, English, Journalism, Language Arts, Communications and programs in Mass Media), Graphic Arts, Music (which shall include but not limited to, vocal music, instrumental music, music history, music education, and music performance) and any other program or field of study approved by the Selection Committee.

The Congressman Mark Foley Scholarship for Journalism Education Fund

Must be enrolled in a program with a major in Journalism.

Multi-Year Regional Civic Health Program Grants

Program support is for organizations based outside Greater New Haven and/or the Valley with a mission dedicated to advocacy, civic engagement, community organizing and journalism. Organizations must have had active programming for 2 years and a budget last fiscal year of >$250,000.   

Available only to organizations based outside of the 20-town region served by The  Community Foundation for Greater New Haven and the Valley Community Foundation.  The mission of eligible organizations must focus on civic health, including advocacy, community organizing, civic engagement, and journalism. Organizations working in other issue areas will not be considered.

Programming support is defined as a grant made for a new or existing specific segment of an organization’s work that services one or more towns in the Community Foundations’ region.

Kiwanis Club of Marietta members participate in service projects, hold fundraisers, and change children’s lives in our community. In addition, club members contribute to Kiwanis International initiatives helping clubs around the world assist children with education, basic needs, and medical care.

The Kiwanis Club of Marietta has proudly established and contributed to several scholarship endowments over the years to support deserving college students in our community. These scholarships are made possible through our club's Flag Project, which places over 1,300 American flags in front of homes and businesses five times each year.

Bill “Scoop” Kinney Journalism Scholarship

This scholarship was established in 2006 by the Marietta Kiwanis Foundation in honor of Mr. Bill Kinney, the Senior Associate Editor of the Marietta Daily Journal. 

Selection emphasis will be placed on academic performance with priority given to current or former Cobb or Marietta.

Alpha Chapter Controlling Corp. of the Delta Theta Sigma Fraternity Scholarship Fund

The purpose of the fund is to provide scholarship awards to deserving high school students who plan to attend an accredited college or university and undertake studies in marketing, communications, journalism, or advertising.

The Fall Teacher Fellowship by the Pulitzer Center offers educators an enriching opportunity to engage with global health stories through innovative reporting. This virtual program, open to teachers in grades four–12, emphasizes critical analysis of health inequities and civic engagement. Participants will collaborate with award-winning journalists, develop lesson plans, and receive a stipend, digital badge, and professional learning units upon completion. This fellowship aims to empower educators to connect their students' learning with global issues, fostering a deeper understanding of interconnected health challenges.

The Nancy J. Seavy Memorial Scholarship Endowment supports students in education and the arts, offering scholarships to those who demonstrate financial need, strong academics, and community involvement. Established in honor of Nancy J. Seavy, who championed the arts, the scholarship aims to empower individuals from the City of Hopewell and surrounding areas. Applicants must submit required documents, including transcripts and letters of recommendation, to be considered for this opportunity.

The Western Iowa Journalism Foundation (WIJF) is a 501(c)(3) public charity dedicated to promoting community journalism across western Iowa. Established in 2020, WIJF provides grants to both non-profit and for-profit news organizations, enabling them to deliver accurate local news and investigative reporting. Their funding is aimed at enhancing local news coverage, ensuring long-term access to vital information for residents. WIJF prioritizes projects that align with their mission to support an independent and robust press.

The Jerry and Martha Taylor Memorial Scholarship, offered by the Quad Cities Community Foundation, supports students from Rock Island County pursuing post-secondary education. With awards of up to $1,000, this scholarship is not renewable and is open to applicants with a minimum GPA of 2.75. Preference is given to students majoring in journalism, theater arts, or special education, or those attending accredited trade schools.

The WXIA TV11 Community Service Scholarship, established by WXIA-TV in collaboration with the United Negro College Fund, aims to support Atlanta residents pursuing higher education. This scholarship is available to college freshmen majoring in English, Communications, Journalism, or related fields at Clark Atlanta, Spelman, Morehouse, or Morris Brown College. It recognizes students who demonstrate exceptional community service and provides financial assistance based on need, fostering educational opportunities for future leaders.

The Kent Flanagan Memorial Scholarship, established by family and friends of the late journalist Kent Flanagan, supports Tennessee students pursuing degrees in journalism. Eligible applicants include juniors, seniors, and graduate students with a B average or higher. This scholarship honors Flanagan's commitment to fair and unbiased reporting, reflecting the mission of the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee to foster positive change through education and community support.
