Journalism outlets producing U.S. health care affordability coverage can receive a US $15,000 Trade Journalism Award to recognize high-quality, original reporting for specialty audiences. The National Institute for Health Care Management honors work that offers new insights for health plans, policymakers, and related stakeholders, which may benefit nonprofits and media organizations advancing journalism in the U.S.

Journalism outlets producing investigative or general reporting on U.S. health care affordability and access can receive a US $20,000 prize for work published in 2025. The National Institute for Health Care Management supports national newspapers, magazines, websites, and nonprofit news organizations covering health care costs, access, and quality for key health stakeholders.

Local U.S. newspapers, magazines, their websites, and nonprofit news organizations producing journalism on health care affordability can compete for this $15,000 Local Media Award in journalism from the National Institute for Health Care Management. Entries must be locally focused, published in 2025, and provide new insights to improve health care access, costs, or quality.

The NIHCM Foundation's Television and Audio Journalism Award honors outstanding television and audio reporting that contributes to enhancing the affordability, accessibility, and quality of healthcare in the U.S. With a prize of $20,000, the award seeks entries that showcase creativity and originality while providing new insights relevant to health plans, policymakers, and consumers. Eligible entries include stories broadcasted in 2025, focusing on critical healthcare issues.

Journalism for Adventist Solutions (JAS) 

Journalism for Adventist Solutions (JAS) grants aim to promote ethical reporting and diverse storytelling by encouraging integrity, creativity, and journalistic excellence in Adventist communication through targeted grant funding. 

The JAS grant application is open year-round, with funds awarded annually each March and September.

• Systemic issues in Adventism that demand investigation and fresh thinking
• Journalists and media organizations producing major stories on vital issues related to Adventism
• New ways to communicate the diverse Adventist-related stories of what God is doing
• Awards and recognition to celebrate journalistic achievements and foster a culture of excellence in ethical storytelling
• Evaluation methods to maintain accountability and ethics in Adventist communication
• Courses, workshops, and mentorship programs to enhance journalist skills, ethics, and innovative practices in Adventist communication
• Travel, technology, stipends and honoraria as relevant to the project request
• Other projects similar to the above

Applicants must agree to provide a post-grant report, including a full financial accounting of how JAS monies were used and agree to be audited if requested.

Native Forward awards are allocated based on the financial aid information provided by the institution’s Financial Aid Office. Awards can vary, ranging from $100 to $30,000 per academic year.

Native Forward Scholars Fund members of federally and state-recognized Tribes as well as first and second-generation descendants. However, Native Forward Scholars Fund scholarship opportunities have different Tribal eligibility requirements and can be determined by submitting a Tribal Eligibility Certificate.

Katrin Lamon Fellowship

This opportunity is provided to honor the life and legacy of Katrin Lamon.

The purpose of the Katrin Lamon Scholarship program is to provide financial assistance to eligible American Indian and Alaska Native graduate students pursuing degrees full-time at an accredited institution in literature, communication, journalism, or other related fields.

This opportunity is a need-based award.

Stark Community Foundation is one of the area’s major sources of college scholarship support— thanks to the generosity of caring individuals, families and businesses that have created scholarship funds.

The Foundation currently manages more than 100 scholarship funds that support hundreds of deserving students each year from Stark and Carroll counties. In 2025, more than $1,000,000 was awarded to local students to help them achieve their educational dreams.

The Velma Shotwell Griffin Memorial Scholarship Fund

The Velma Shotwell Griffin Memorial Scholarship Fund was established to assist graduates of Conotton Valley or Carrollton High Schools planning to enroll, or currently enrolled, at an accredited college or university to pursue further education in the following fields: History, Writing (not limited to, English, Journalism, Language Arts, Communications and programs in Mass Media), Graphic Arts, Music (which shall include but not limited to, vocal music, instrumental music, music history, music education, and music performance) and any other program or field of study approved by the Selection Committee.

Frybarger Memorial Scholarship, established by the Chippewa County Community Foundation, provides financial support to LGBTQ+ students from Chippewa, Mackinaw, or Luce County pursuing careers in fields such as Culinary Trades, Dietitian/Nutrition, Journalism, Literature, and Horticulture. This scholarship aims to foster inclusivity in education and assist deserving students in achieving their academic goals, with financial need considered when awarding the scholarship.

The David Perlman Award for Excellence in Science Journalism recognizes outstanding work in science news reporting. Established in 2000, this annual award honors journalists who make Earth and space science accessible to the public. Recipients receive a $5,000 prize, an engraved award, and recognition at AGU's annual meeting. Eligible nominees include journalists from any medium, excluding books, who have not won the award in the past two years. The award encourages diverse representation in science journalism.

The Drue Smith/Society of Professional Journalists’ Scholarship Fund, established in memory of pioneering journalist Drue Smith, supports college juniors, seniors, and graduate students from Middle Tennessee pursuing careers in journalism or broadcast news. This fund honors Drue's legacy as the first woman president of the Society of Professional Journalists in Tennessee, promoting professional development for aspiring journalists and fostering the next generation of media professionals in a rapidly changing landscape.

The Fall Teacher Fellowship by the Pulitzer Center offers educators an enriching opportunity to engage with global health stories through innovative reporting. This virtual program, open to teachers in grades four–12, emphasizes critical analysis of health inequities and civic engagement. Participants will collaborate with award-winning journalists, develop lesson plans, and receive a stipend, digital badge, and professional learning units upon completion. This fellowship aims to empower educators to connect their students' learning with global issues, fostering a deeper understanding of interconnected health challenges.

The Nancy J. Seavy Memorial Scholarship Endowment supports students in education and the arts, offering scholarships to those who demonstrate financial need, strong academics, and community involvement. Established in honor of Nancy J. Seavy, who championed the arts, the scholarship aims to empower individuals from the City of Hopewell and surrounding areas. Applicants must submit required documents, including transcripts and letters of recommendation, to be considered for this opportunity.

The Western Iowa Journalism Foundation (WIJF) is a 501(c)(3) public charity dedicated to promoting community journalism across western Iowa. Established in 2020, WIJF provides grants to both non-profit and for-profit news organizations, enabling them to deliver accurate local news and investigative reporting. Their funding is aimed at enhancing local news coverage, ensuring long-term access to vital information for residents. WIJF prioritizes projects that align with their mission to support an independent and robust press.

The Jerry and Martha Taylor Memorial Scholarship, offered by the Quad Cities Community Foundation, supports students from Rock Island County pursuing post-secondary education. With awards of up to $1,000, this scholarship is not renewable and is open to applicants with a minimum GPA of 2.75. Preference is given to students majoring in journalism, theater arts, or special education, or those attending accredited trade schools.
