Research Grants

Research Grants are evaluated to determine whether they would improve clinical understanding of Carl Zeiss Meditec’s products and research & development efforts.

Overview:

The Surgical Care Fund is committed to making a lasting impact by supporting underfunded, volunteer-driven organizations where professionals, such as doctors, nurses, and other specialists, contribute their time without monetary compensation.  By focusing on initiatives with a demonstrated capacity for long-term impact, the Fund aims to create a legacy of care and support for those in need.

Guidelines:

The Surgical Care Fund is dedicated to supporting nonprofit organizations that provide critical services in the following area(s):

• Surgical Care: Programs offering surgical care for physical or cosmetic deformities caused by birth, disease, accidents, or abuse. This includes, but is not limited to, blindness, hearing impairments, dental issues, cleft lip, and other similar conditions. Programs can include surgeons helping burn victims, dentists helping those with serious dental problems, ophthalmologists assisting those with serious eye problems, and doctors providing free constructive surgery to those in need.

The Fund is committed to making a lasting impact by supporting underfunded, volunteer-driven organizations where professionals, such as doctors, nurses, and other specialists, contribute their time without monetary compensation.

Independent Medical Education Program Grants

We may provide financial and/or product support to independent third-party organizations who organize educational, scientific, or policymaking programs that further medical and scientific knowledge. We believe that such programs are critical to advancements in the medical community, and we support a wide range of programs at the local, regional and national level.

We respect the Standards for Commercial Support of Continuing Medical Education as published by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) and as such will not seek to control the content or management of third-party programs (for example, selection of topics, faculty, and attendees). Also, our support of a program will not depend on the program sponsor's selection of particular topics, faculty or attendees.

Our policies, as well as industry standards embodied in the AdvaMed Code of Ethics on Interactions with Health Care Professionals, limit our ability to pay for certain educational conference costs. We do not directly pay for conference costs such as facilities, faculty honoraria and travel expenses – all support is provided to the conference provider to offset overall conference expenses. We do not subsidize the costs of travel, lodging or tuition for conference attendees. Medical students, fellows and other health care providers in training may periodically be eligible to receive scholarship funds to cover tuition and reasonable travel expenses to attend qualified educational conferences.

We may provide grants to support the following types of educational programs:

• Institutional, national, regional or local continuing medical education conferences and professional meetings
• "Grand rounds" presentations and patient group (Angio Club, Patient Advocacy) meetings
• Publication or rebroadcast of a conference program (in booklet or pamphlet form, over the Internet, etc.)

Educational program grant and exhibit applications should be submitted, reviewed and approved as two separate requests.

Please note: If your conference or educational event is not accredited by one of the five accreditation organizations listed below, Boston Scientific - like all other pharmaceutical, biologics and medical device companies - is required to collect from you, and report under the U.S. Physician Payment Sunshine Act, the amount of Boston Scientific funds your organization pays to U.S. physicians serving as faculty at your conference, including the identities of those physicians. The five accreditation organizations are:

• American Academy of Family Physicians
• American Dental Association’s Continuing Education Recognition Program
• American Medical Association
• American Osteopathic Association

We receive many worthwhile requests. Unfortunately, due to budget limitations, we are unable to fund them all. It is important to note that past funding does not guarantee future approval and that submissions can be approved at an amount less than the requested amount. Do not assume that a request has been approved. Requestors will receive an email notification of approval or denial after the Boston Scientific committee has made its decisions.

Background

The Colburn-Keenan Foundation is committed to providing assistance and support to community, local, and national organizations that offer programs and services to individuals and families with chronic illnesses in the United States, with priority on those within bleeding disorders community.

The Marcy Shulman Memorial Organization Grant Program is named in honor of one of the founding members of the Colburn-Keenan Foundation’s Board of Directors, Marcy Shulman. Marcy was a long-time friend, co-worker, and collaborator of the Foundation’s founders, Donald Colburn and Kathy Ann Keenan. Marcy helped bring to fruition Don’s and Kathy’s final project, the Colburn-Keenan Foundation, following their passing from cancer in 2006. Marcy worked tirelessly developing the support programs and fine-tuning the mission of the Foundation, even as she battled cancer which would finally claim her in December of 2010.

Butterfield Memorial Foundation Grant

We have three grantmaking cycles per year. Projects aligning with one of our four Funding Focus Areas can be considered in any grant cycle.

Funding Focus Areas

Butterfield Foundation has four (4) Funding Focus Areas that define our granting priorities.

• Charitable Whole Person Healthcare:
  • BMF seeks to meet the whole person healthcare needs of underserved individuals by partnering with nonprofit Christian organizations serving their community with priority given to Oklahoma. Projects funded should improve the quality of care offered to each patient, address health issues impacting a large portion of the population, and advance the efforts of charitable care by educating providers.
  • Examples of funding include: construction, renovations, medical equipment, lab equipment, dental equipment, vision equipment, strategic planning, technology upgrades, and training for staff.
• Choose Life Advancement:
  • BMF seeks to partner with nonprofit Christian organizations serving individuals with unintended pregnancies, those in need of post-abortive healing, and those healing from or vulnerable to sex-trafficking. Projects funded should expand outreach, provide training opportunities that enhance client care, or improve service delivery.
  • Examples of funding include: ultrasound machines, building improvements, equipment, technology upgrades, website updates, pregnancy/parenting curriculum, center signage, and training for staff.
• International Whole Person Healthcare:
  • BMF seeks to collaborate with nonprofit Christian organizations serving an international population meeting whole person healthcare needs. Projects funded should increase the number of individuals served, improve health conditions, or create programs for indigenous people to mitigate community health needs.
  • Examples of funding include: construction, renovations, imaging equipment, lab equipment, dental equipment, vision equipment, surgical equipment, strategic planning, water/sanitation, community health training, solar power, technology upgrades, and training for staff.
• Spiritual Care Advancement:
  • BMF seeks to collaborate with nonprofit Christian healthcare organizations to advance spiritual care as a core component of whole person care. Projects funded should create training opportunities to advance understanding and knowledge of spiritual care and improve the physical, mental, and social well-being of individuals.
  • Examples of funding include: curriculum development, spiritual care/chaplaincy trainings, spiritual care internships, and trauma-informed care.

In selecting projects for consideration, the Foundation evaluates alignment with our funding priorities and our values and considers whether we can make a meaningful difference with our impact and our investments.

ADEAGies Foundation Grant 

The ADEAGies Foundation®—the philanthropic arm of the American Dental Education Association (ADEA)—is committed to improving oral health of the public and advancing innovations in the profession of dentistry by ensuring a robust future faculty and supporting the development of leaders in academic dentistry.

To that end, the Foundation provides grant funding for research, programs and special initiatives that support dental, allied dental and advanced dental programs, as well as related organizations.

The Foundation Grant Program is an annual small grants program (usually $10,000–$50,000). Foundation grants are funded through the general fund of the ADEAGies Foundation (the Foundation). Annually, the ADEAGies Board of Trustees meets in March during the ADEA Annual Session & Exhibition to determine the total amount of funding available for the upcoming fiscal year. This amount is considered when determining funding levels for each grant.

The Foundation seeks to fund as many projects as possible, which may naturally limit the amount of funding available for each proposal. In general, the Foundation prefers to fully fund proposals. However, some proposals may merit partial funding. The Board of Trustees reserves the right to make such decisions.

Foundation grants will be awarded to organizations/institutions on an annual basis.

The Gerber Foundation's Mission

The mission of The Gerber Foundation, to enhance the quality of life of infants and young children in nutrition, care, and development, has remained the guiding beacon for Foundation giving throughout its history. Accordingly, priority is given to projects whose primary beneficiaries are young children from birth to three years of age. The Gerber Foundation expects its grant dollars to significantly impact issues facing infants and young children. Through our grant-making efforts, we are committed to improving the health and well-being of the youngest members of our society. The Foundation maintains three primary focus areas for its grant-making:

• Pediatric Research: The primary focus, supported by over 70% of grant-making, is applied research focused on health and nutritional issues affecting infants and young children. Research projects aimed at finding solutions to common every-day issues and problems regarding children’s health and nutrition are sought. Of particular interest are those offering a substantial promise of meaningful advances in prevention and treatment of diseases and those with broad applicability to the general population.
• West Michigan Grants: West Michigan grants are focused on youth programs supporting the growth and development of children from 0-18 years of age within 4 counties in West Michigan – Lake, Muskegon, Newaygo, and Oceana Counties. Specific areas of focus within youth programming include early childhood growth and development to assure children are ready for school by age 5; development of parenting skills; STEM education; health and dental care; and several historically supported programs such as 4-H, summer camps, and general support programs.
• Scholarships: College scholarships are provided to students graduating from select high schools in Newaygo, Muskegon, and Oceana Counties. Students must be graduating seniors at the time of application. Scholarships support education beyond high school in traditional colleges or universities as well as trade schools or support for certification exams.

The Foundation’s mission focuses on infants and young children. 

The Foundation is particularly interested in fresh approaches to solving common, everyday problems or emerging issues within our defined focus area. Projects should focus on issues faced by care providers that, when implemented, will improve the health, nutrition and/or developmental outcomes for infants and young children. The board is particularly looking for practical solutions that can be easily and rapidly implemented on a broad scale with a predictable time frame to clinical application.

Major target areas for research include:

• New diagnostic tools that may be more rapid, more specific, more sensitive, less invasive
• New treatment regimens that are improved or novel, less stressful or painful, more targeted, have fewer side effects, provide optimal dosing
• Symptom relief
• Preventative measures
• Assessment of deficiencies or excesses (vitamins, minerals, drugs, etc.)
• Risk assessment tools or measures for environmental hazards, trauma, etc.

Note that the Foundation is looking for projects that will result in ‘new’ information, treatments or tools that will result in a change in practice. The board rarely funds projects that are focused on sharing current information with parents or caregivers (parent or provider educational programs).

Environmental Hazards (Nutrient Competitors)

The Foundation is interested in projects that evaluate the effects of environmental hazards on infants and young children. Applied research projects that document the impact of, or ameliorate effects of, environmental hazards on the growth and development of infants and young children are the focus of this area of interest.

Typical projects funded in this area of interest may include projects aimed at:

• Exposures and their effects on infants and toddlers
• Methods to lessen the effects of exposures

Note that the Foundation does not restrict this area to the ‘natural environment’ but considers exposures within the infant’s or toddler’s environment, whether manmade or natural. These exposures may be caused by hazards within the NICU environment (noise, light, medical equipment, etc.), the home environment (carpeting, plastics, etc.), or exposures from breastmilk caused by parental behavior (marijuana, drugs, etc.).

• Better diagnostic techniques (more rapid, specific, sensitive, or less invasive)
• Better treatment (improved, less stressful or painful, optimal dosing, fewer side effects)
• Symptom relief
• Preventive measures

Applications for Novice grants follow the same process as regular grants and are limited to no more than $30,000 in total (inclusive of indirects). They are identified by the amount requested in the application.

These programs respond to a long-time interest of the Foundation in assuring adequate nutrition for infants and young children. Projects include applied research that evaluates the provision of specific nutrients and their related outcomes in infants and young children.

Typical projects funded in this area of interest may include projects aimed at:

• Benefits or side effects of supplementation of a specific nutrient
• Effects of deficiencies or excesses of a specific nutrient
• Timing and dosing of supplementation
• Issues related to general growth and feeding

How and Why Giving Back to Communities is Important to O’Reilly

Mission

The O’Reilly Automotive Foundation strives to have a lasting, positive impact in the communities where O’Reilly Auto Parts’ team members and customers live and work by supporting organizations and programs which address issues critical to improving the quality of life for underserved and underrepresented individuals and families. In particular, the Foundation will concentrate its giving in support of organizations and programs addressing economic stability and mobility, workforce development, health and social services, and disaster relief.

Championing and prioritizing matters of health, including mental and behavioral health, access to basic needs such as medical and dental care for underprivileged communities, and providing funding for organizations focused on childhood development and children’s advocacy as well as care and support for victims of domestic violence.

Disaster Relief

Providing funding and visibility to organizations specializing in providing relief from natural disasters and state of emergency, including providing temporary shelter, food, water, and hygiene or sanitation products to those affected and aiding in cleanup efforts.

Application Requirements

We will consider three principal types of grants:

Project Support Grants support specific projects or programs aligned with our mission. These requests may include some funds earmarked for the overhead costs associated with running a project.

General Operating Support Grants provide limited general operating support for the core operations or organizations whose missions and activities are aligned with our mission. These grants will often help the grantee build organizational, programmatic, and fundraising capacity. Operating support is not intended to help organizations in fiscal crisis. Applicants must have a current strategic or business plan that clearly outlines the organization’s goals and presents a plan for achieving results. Operating support grants must not exceed 15% of an organization’s total agency budget.

Capital Support Grants provide limited support for capital campaigns to fund the acquisition and construction of facilities, existing property renovation, or the purchase of major equipment. The program has a comprehensive approach to funding capital initiatives, which also includes funding for increased program capacity. A feasibility study may be required for capital initiatives to be considered.

Sun Life’s Health Access Grant Program

Sun Life’s Health Access grant program (formerly the Team Up Against Diabetes grant program) awards organizations for improving access to health programs focused on diabetes & oral health care efforts in their local communities.

Sun Life is committed to improving access to health services for our communities. We support this work through our two philanthropic focus areas – diabetes and oral health. Oral health is an important part of overall health, and many at-risk communities lack access to preventive services and regular dental care. Diabetes, which often disproportionately impacts underprivileged communities, can lead to severe medical conditions, including cardiovascular and kidney disease. Diabetes and unattended oral health are also often connected. Supporting programs that help your communities access the health services they need, regardless of zip code, fosters healthier, more sustainable communities.

Our Health Access grant program (formerly Team Up Against Diabetes grant program) gives us the opportunity to directly engage with non-profit organizations and support health programs within their communities.

Funding

Organizations will have the opportunity to select from three grant options: $25,000, $50,000 or $100,000.

At CareQuest Institute for Oral Health®, we work together to create a system that is accessible, equitable, and integrated by bringing forth ideas and solutions. We do this through our work in grantmaking, research, health improvement programs, policy and advocacy, and education, as well as our leadership in dental benefits and innovation advancements. But we don’t do it alone. Collaboration and partnership are key to achieving our mission — to improve the oral health of all. 

Our grantmaking team has a history of partnering with grassroots and communitybased organizations that represent and/or engage those most directly impacted by oral health inequities. These populations include racial and ethnic minorities, rural communities, and older adults. Since our Grassroots Engagement Initiative in 2015–2020, we’ve continued to elevate new partner voices to reshape, disrupt, and transform our oral health system. Taking what we’ve learned, we are seeking new voices representing historically marginalized communities to advance oral health.

School-Based and School-Linked Initiatives to Improve Oral Health

As part of CareQuest Institute’s philanthropic strategy, we are actively seeking grantmaking opportunities that strengthen communities and improve the overall system to create better oral health for all. School-based and school-linked oral health programs are designed to address access barriers for high-risk children to prevent dental decay and improve overall health and academic success. Through the SchoolBased and School-Linked Initiatives to Improve Oral Health Request for Proposals (RFP), CareQuest Institute is seeking to fund projects that are engaging schools to address systemic barriers to oral health, inclusive of access, for children and their families. 

Proposals may include but are not limited to:

• Workforce considerations. Exploring effective studentfacing roles (e.g., school nurses) and strategies individuals in these roles use to support the expansion of oral health prevention, messaging, and access to care for students. Schools can become the center for multiple opportunities to improve the oral health and overall health of the students, increasing their chances to stay in school and achieve in life.
• Community Engagement. Advocacy by community members to support policy to implement or expand school-based or school-linked oral health programs.
• Policy solutions to improve oral health. Local education agency, state, or national policies to support school-based or school-linked oral health programs.
• Expansion of the capacity of Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs). School-based oral health programs may either be operated by or partner with FQHCs to refer students and their family members, so that everyone eventually secures a dental home.
• School-based technology and tools. Teledentistry can enable children to receive diagnostic, preventive, and early intervention dental care at their school.
• Alternative payment models. A clinical organization piloting innovative clinical, workforce, and workflow solutions to inform and/or validate creative payment models that support school-based or school-linked oral health.

Future Workforce Fund

Launched in 2023, the Delta Dental Future Workforce Fund invests up to $1 million annually in comprehensive solutions, innovative pilots, and scalable models that inspire school-aged children from a variety of experiences and backgrounds to pursue a career in oral health. 

Delta Dental seeks submissions that address the following:

• Identify solutions to increase the number of youth interested in pursuing oral health careers targeted toward school-aged children.

We are continuing to invest in comprehensive solutions, innovative pilots, developed ideas, or proven, scalable models that address barriers that many students face in pursuing careers in oral health.

In 2025, the Fund will once again support programs that inspire school-aged children to consider professional opportunities in oral health – including careers as dentists, orthodontists and other specialists, hygienists, technicians, and more. 

Updates in Post-COVID Conditions: Potential Causes, Assessment, Testing, Management, and Ongoing Research 

Through this RFP it is our intent to support educational programs on postCOVID conditions targeting primary care providers. These programs should aim to equip primary care providers with the necessary knowledge and skills to identify, diagnose, and manage post-COVID conditions effectively, with a particular interest in programs that address health disparities in the care of marginalized and underserved communities.

Project Types and Area of Interest

Program objectives may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Explain testing and assessment of post-COVID conditions, identify potential causes, and understand its various clinical presentations and potential complications
• Outline the management of post-COVID conditions, including symptom management, referral pathways, pharmacological and nonpharmacological treatments, and ongoing monitoring and follow-up of patients
• Describe strategies to address health disparities such as culturally responsive care, health literacy, community resources, and advocacy for equitable access to care for all patients with post-COVID conditions
• Summarize the latest updates in the ongoing research into the potential causes, assessment, testing, and management of post-COVID conditions

All activity types will be considered, with an emphasis on innovative programs that are designed to meet the needs of a large primary care provider audience.

Competitive Grants Program

Pfizer supports the global healthcare community’s independent initiatives (e.g., research, quality improvement or education) to improve patient outcomes in areas of unmet medical need that are aligned with Pfizer’s medical and/or scientific strategies.

Pfizer’s competitive grant program involves a publicly posted Request for Proposal (RFP) that provides detail regarding a specific area of interest and sets timelines for review and approval. Organizations are invited to submit an application addressing the specific gaps in research, practice or care as outlined in the specific RFP. The grant requester (and ultimately the grantee) is responsible for the design, implementation, sponsorship, and conduct of the independent initiative supported by the grant, including compliance with any regulatory requirements.

COVID-19 Disease Burden on the Pediatric Population

Through this RFP it is our intent to support educational programs on the burden of COVID-19 disease in the pediatric patient population with high risk conditions, targeting pediatricians, pediatric infectious disease specialists, and primary care providers who manage high-risk pediatric patients. These programs should aim to equip these providers with the necessary knowledge and skills to identify, diagnose, and manage COVID-19 effectively amongst the pediatric patients at high risk for developing severe COVID-19 outcomes.

Project Types and Area of Interest

Through this RFP it is our intent to support educational programs for HCPs that address knowledge gaps in identifying pediatric patients at high risk for developing severe COVID-19 outcomes, including hospitalization or death, and are designed to help achieve the following goals:

• Improve identification of pediatric patients with high-risk conditions and their eligibility for COVID-19 treatment.
• Recognize the importance of early COVID-19 intervention/treatment in high-risk pediatric patients.
• Outline COVID-19 complications associated with high-risk conditions and the impact they have on pediatric patients and healthcare systems.

All activity types will be considered and may include educational resources for physicians, for advanced practice providers, or for both, with an emphasis on innovative programs that are designed to meet the needs of a large primary care provider audience.

The purpose of the predoctoral fellowship is to enhance the integrated research and clinical training of promising students who are matriculated in pre-doctoral or clinical health professional degree training programs and who intend careers as scientists, physician-scientists or other clinician-scientists, or related careers aimed at improving global cardiovascular, cerebrovascular and brain health.

The trainee and mentor should collaboratively provide a thoughtfully planned, systematic proposal aimed at clearly answering an investigative question in cardiovascular, cerebrovascular or brain health research. (5-page limit). A fellow must have primary responsibility for the writing and the preparation of the application, understanding that the mentor will play a significant part in providing guidance to the applicant. Because the fellow receives only a stipend from the award, additional monetary support for the proposed work MUST come from the mentor's laboratory. Therefore, the proposal will likely be related to the mentor's currently funded work. The mentor should clarify the role the applicant played in developing the proposal, the relationship of the proposal to ongoing work in the mentor's laboratory, and how the proposal will contribute toward the training and career development of the applicant.

A new fellow may not have had adequate time to generate preliminary data; therefore, applicants may present preliminary data generated by the mentor. The assessment of preliminary data, whether generated by the mentor or the applicant, should be put into perspective so that bold new ideas and risk-taking by beginning investigators are encouraged rather than stymied. Submission of an application to the AHA with identical or significantly similar content as a submission by another investigator is prohibited. Also, the submission of an application to the AHA with identical or significantly similar content from a mentor to a grant program and his/her fellow to a fellowship program is prohibited. In such cases, both applications may be removed from funding consideration. If a grant application is submitted by the sponsor of a fellowship application, both applications may be funded if there is no duplication of aims.

Award

• The AHA does not pay indirect costs on fellowships.
• AHA does not require use of the NIH salary cap.
• Annual Stipend: $28,224 - AHA's stipend matches the published NIH stipend for predoctoral fellows at the time the AHA begins to accept proposals.
• Plus $4,550 per year for health insurance.
  • Stipend may be used to further supplement health insurance, however, the health insurance allowance may not be used for any other purpose.
• Project Support: $2,000 per year, in addition to the stipend.
• No limit on any line item (travel, computer, equipment, etc.). International travel is permitted and does not require prior AHA approval.
• Award Duration: One or two years

The Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) Foundation—the philanthropic arm of the AGD—celebrates its 53rd anniversary this year.

Established in 1972, the AGD Foundation aims to improve the oral health of the public and support the efforts of the general dentist and AGD. Our primary focus is oral/oropharyngeal cancer awareness, risk factor education and diagnostic training for general dentists.

Grant Program

The AGD Foundation Grant Program offers support to AGD constituents and nonprofit community-based out- reach programs in the U.S. and Canada that provide free oral cancer screenings and education to the public, especially underserved communities that lack access to oral health care, due to geographic and/or economic hardship.
