How We Drive Change

Imagine you’ve just completed your military service.

You need to find a place to live. You don’t have a job. Or you’ve been injured and need care. You can’t sleep. The bills are piling up. Your partner is struggling. Your family is strained. You don’t know where to turn.

This is why the Bob Woodruff Foundation exists.

We raise awareness about the overwhelming challenges some veterans, service members, and their families face, and we invest in solutions to help support them.

Grant Criteria

We provide funding for programs that serve the military and veteran community. We focus on programs that improve the health and well-being of service members, veterans, their families, and caregivers, and that:

• Improve social determinants of health
• Decrease barriers to physical and mental healthcare
• Increase access to programming that fosters a healthy lifestyle
• Enhance opportunities for veterans to thrive after service

The foundation believes personal empowerment lifts the human spirit, encouraging individuals to discover pathways to better themselves and contribute positively to society. This begins with children, imbuing them with confidence and knowledge. It means investing in and discovering solutions for seemingly intractable challenges. It allows for enlightenment and provides inspiration so people continually strive toward healthier and richer lives.CLF often helps smaller organizations that are not in the spotlight but are doing good work, and prefers projects that may be modest in size but have high impact. We look for programs that promote diversity and inclusion, and counter discrimination and exclusiveness. The aim is to find permanent solutions and to constantly appeal to greater goals.

• Education: Education empowers individuals to find solutions, improving not only their own life but the lives around them.
• Children’s Advocacy: Bettering the lives of children is central to CLF’s purpose. Ultimately, the goal is to help children reach their fullest potential, which means sufficient education, healthcare, shelter and care.
• Medical Research & Initiatives:  Medical research and initiatives spawn breakthroughs in our understanding of wellness and allow us to proactively counter disease and suffering.
• The Arts: The arts enrich minds and stimulate the human spirit. Exposure to the arts is vital to fostering and sustaining healthy communities.

Grant Information

Giving is personal for the Charles Lafitte Foundation, as we reflect the values and imperatives of our founders, Jeffrey Citron and Suzanne Citron. Every member of the foundation is involved in all of our work, including researching organizations, reviewing grant requests, determining programs, and evaluating outcomes. Every grant is carefully considered. We believe that with each grant CLF awards, we are taking one step closer to a better world.

Child Well-being

Through the Child Well-being Program, the foundation aims to promote children’s healthy development and protect them from abuse and neglect. 

Doris Duke took a special interest in the well-being of children and families, supporting communities, early family planning efforts and nearly 85 child welfare organizations during her life. In her will, which guides our focus areas, she expressed her interest in "the prevention of cruelty to children." 

Why It's Important

Children’s well-being and ability to thrive are strongly tied to the safety and stability of both their families and where they live. These factors provide the foundation for healthy physical and emotional development during childhood. Unfortunately, many children in the U.S. experience a long legacy of unjust historic and systemic inequities and disparities that rob them of access to the fundamental factors that allow others to flourish. All children should be able to grow up in secure, positive, healthy and inclusive environments that allow them to reach their full potential.

What We Support

Through the Child Well-being Program, the foundation funds efforts that strengthen the systems that serve families and support the needs of children and caregivers together. In March 2024, we launched Opportunities for Prevention & Transformation, or “OPT-In for Families,” to help build a prevention-oriented child well-being system that supports children and families within their communities.

OPT-In for Families

Building a New Model for Child Well-being.  The current child welfare system, with surveillance at its center and maltreatment concerns as its trigger, too often causes lasting harm to children and families and misses the opportunity to support them in their community and help them thrive. We believe there is a better way to prevent abuse and neglect.  

Launched by the Doris Duke Foundation, Opportunities for Prevention & Transformation Initiative, or “OPT-In for Families,” builds on work done across the country to create and test a meaningful alternative to the child welfare system—one that moves from a punitive system focused on assessing whether children should be removed from their homes to a prevention-oriented well-being system that leads to better outcomes across a child's life.

Strengthening & Coordinating Service Systems

Through its grantmaking, the Child Well-being Program aims to strengthen and expand the capacity of social service systems that are collaborative and provide culturally appropriate, evidence-based, and context-specific prevention and treatment programs for parents and children. By strengthening the ability of existing social service systems to better serve those in places contending with sizeable inequities, more children and families can receive the essential supports and resources that help them to pursue full, healthy and happy lives. Services such as these, when well-coordinated, can make a significant impact in responding to the effects of generations of inequities and exposure to trauma, violence, abuse, and neglect to help give families a fairer shot at achieving healthy and happy futures.

Building Capacity and Sharing Knowledge

The Child Well-being Program works to build individual, organizational and collective capacity that fosters, aligns and expands opportunities to advance more equitable outcomes for children and families. The program invests in the career development of visionary and effective leaders from a variety of disciplines who reflect the experiences, cultures and backgrounds of the communities they serve. These leaders include those from multiple social service systems, nonprofit organizations and researchers.

Our grantmaking also supports the generation and use of research evidence that offers invaluable insights into the communities we aim to serve and informs policies and practices that shape the experiences and well-being of children and families.

The program also provides targeted funds to facilitate communication and storytelling that use a strengths- and equity-based lens to replace harmful dominant narratives with authentic representation and the lived experiences of the communities and families we support.

Additionally, we support advocacy efforts that increase awareness of community needs and promote essential elements of well-being.

Child Well-being Program Priorities

The Child Well-being Program prioritizes funding for projects and programs that:

• Cultivate partnerships between organizations and systems that serve children and families to increase health equity and well-being;
• Coordinate efforts across a variety of social service systems;
• Implement interventions that meet the needs of children and families in their neighborhoods and communities;
• Increase access to prevention and treatment services;
• Communicate lessons and outcomes broadly to inform policy and practice; and/or
• Invest in developing and supporting the next generation of leaders committed to implementing effective programs and policies serving children and families.

Global Fund for Children raises all the funds that we use to invest in community-based organizations around the world. We know that organizations spend precious time preparing proposals for prospective funders. We appreciate there are many worthy causes and changemakers that we will not be able to support. As such, we do not ask organizations to submit proposals. We visit organizations in person and build relationships, getting to know possible new partners when we have raised funds. As a first step, we maintain a database of organizations we can get to know if we have just the right opportunity.

Our work advances the rights of children and youth across four focus areas and five regions. We have a deep commitment to courageous organizations that support young people facing poverty, injustice, and discrimination.

We support grassroots organizations that are not afraid to tackle the root causes of poverty with innovative, local solutions. Most offer holistic care to comprehensively address the needs of each child. Many become regional and national leaders in children’s rights—raising awareness, influencing policy, and ultimately impacting thousands of children and youth beyond their doors.

Education

Every child deserves the chance to learn, grow, and dream. We work closely with our partners to make sure children across the world can learn, play, and go to school. We are committed to helping every child reach their potential through equal access to quality education.

Gender justice

GFC and our partners promote gender equity, advance girls’ education, inspire healthy masculinities, support the rights of LGBTQ+ youth, and ensure that young people live free from gender-based violence and exploitation.

Safety and wellbeing

We are committed to ending violence and exploitation of children, to helping young survivors rebuild their lives, and to protecting the mental health and wellbeing of every child and young person.

Climate resilience

Young people are mobilizing to address climate change. They are building resilience in their communities, educating their families and communities, advocating for policy changes, and stewarding the environment. We work with young leaders and youth-led organizations finding real solutions for both people and the planet.

Youth power

Young people are achieving incredible things - creating change in the present and shaping the future. We help young people become leaders and changemakers, making sure they have the opportunities, skills, and confidence to tackle the issues central to their lives and their communities.

Solidarity in emergencies

In times of crisis, we are committed to supporting our partners around the world as they respond in their communities. From natural disasters to conflict or health emergencies, our local partners are well-positioned to address emerging challenges. GFC provides emergency grants, technical support, and wellbeing solidarity to our partners as they navigate emergencies impacting their organizations and their communities.

Impact and Learning

Global Fund for Children funds community-based organizations and works closely with them to strengthen their capacity to create change. Our primary impact is on the organizations we support, and by extension, the impact they create with and for children and young people, in their communities.

Every organization has its unique aspirations and approaches, so our work with each organization is unique, tailored, and made possible by trust and understanding of their unique contexts.

We capture global quantitative indicators to capture how organizations change over time, but qualitative stories of change are critical to understanding the impact of GFC’s work. Our impact and learning approach is rooted in feedback, participatory learning reviews, and a commitment to capture only the information GFC and our partners will actually use to deepen our learning and to become more effective in our closely collaborative work.

Through its grantmaking, the Hearst Foundations support well-established nonprofit organizations that address significant issues within their major areas of focus—culture, education, health and social service—and that primarily serve large demographic and/or geographic constituencies. In each area of funding, the Foundations seek to identify those organizations achieving truly differentiated results relative to other organizations making similar efforts for similar populations. The Foundations also look for evidence of sustainability beyond their support.

Whether providing a scholarship to a deserving student, supporting a rural health clinic or bringing artists into schools so children can see firsthand the beauty of the arts, the Foundations’ focus is consistent: to help those in need, those underserved and those underrepresented in society. Since the Foundations were formed in the 1940s, the scale and capabilities of the grant making have changed, but the mission has not.

Culture Grant

The Hearst Foundations fund cultural institutions that offer meaningful programs in the arts and sciences, prioritizing those that enable engagement by young people and create a lasting and measurable impact. The Foundations also fund select programs nurturing and developing artistic talent. Supported organizations include arts schools, ballets, museums, operas, performing arts centers, symphonies and theaters.

Funding Priorities in Culture

In the recent past, 25% of total funding has been allocated to Culture. Organizations with budgets over $10 million have received 60% of the funding in Culture.

The Hearst Foundations are only able to fund approximately 25% of all grant requests, of which about 80% is directed to prior grantees and about 20% is targeted toward new grantees.

The Foundations’ focus is largely on higher education, but they also fund innovative models of early childhood and K-12 education, as well as professional development.

The Hearst Foundations are only able to fund approximately 25% of all grant requests, of which about 80% is directed to prior grantees and about 20% is targeted for new grantees.

The Hearst Foundations assist leading regional hospitals, medical centers and specialized medical institutions providing access to healthcare for high-need populations. In response to the shortage of healthcare professionals necessary to meet the country’s evolving healthcare demands, the Foundations also fund programs designed to enhance skills and increase the number of practitioners and educators across roles in healthcare. The Foundations also support public health, medical research and the development of young investigators to help create a broad and enduring impact on the nation’s health.

Funding Priorities in Health

Social Service Grant

The Hearst Foundations fund direct-service organizations that tackle the roots of chronic poverty by applying effective solutions to the most challenging social and economic problems. The Foundations prioritize supporting programs that have proven successful in facilitating economic independence and in strengthening families. Preference is also given to programs with the potential to scale productive practices in order to reach more people in need.

Funding Priorities in Social Service

In the recent past, 15% of total funding has been allocated to Social Service. Organizations with budgets over $5 million have received 75% of funding in Social Service.

Laird Norton Family Foundation

The Laird Norton Family Foundation (LNFF) is a private family foundation in Seattle, Washington, with a mission to honor and reflect the family’s shared values through giving and engage the family in philanthropy as a platform for strengthening family connections.

Primary Grantmaking Programs  

Our grantmaking reflects the values of the Laird Norton family. We give in program areas that reflect the family's shared interests:

Arts in Education

Our Arts in Education grantmaking program supports equitable educational opportunities for students using arts integrated and culturally informed instruction, including sustained professional development for public school teachers. Funding will be directed toward programs that seek to enhance students’ educational outcomes in public Pre-K through grade 12 classrooms rather than to simply increase participation in, or appreciation for, the arts.

• Our current support focuses on organizations that provide: long-term, push-in, professional development opportunities for public Pre-K through grade 12 teachers and schools; programs that aim to serve students furthest from educational justice; and programs with culturally relevant instruction and are focused on the whole child.

Climate Change

Climate change is a global, complex challenge facing our world. The goal of our Climate Change program is to help the planet heal and mitigate adverse impacts of climate change for all people, communities, and the natural world. Grantmaking is centered around carbon sequestration work and recognizes organizations as the experts and stewards to advance climate and environmental justice. Grantmaking is focused in the West Coast of the US.

•  We are focused on supporting work that increased the abilities of forests, coastal ecosystems, and agricultural lands to sequester carbon. Through projects involving healthy forests, blue carbon, and regenerative agriculture, we seek to learn from and follow the lead of communities impacted first and worst as our planet changes. 

Human Services

• Our Human Services grantmaking program supports organizations working directly with youth and young adults (age 12-25) who are experiencing or at risk of experiencing homelessness, and/or involved with child welfare, juvenile legal or behavioral health systems. Grantmaking is currently only with organizations in King County, WA. 

• Our current support prioritizes organizations that are created and led by the communities they seek to serve, that acknowledge and seek to address racial and social injustice in their work, and that offer programming with the aim of preventing youth and young adult homelessness and creating systems change.

Watershed Stewardship

​Watersheds have social, ecological, and economic significance. The goal of the Watershed Stewardship program is to create enabling conditions for long-term social and ecological health and resilience in places of importance to the Laird Norton Family. Currently, we prioritize work in Minnesota and Wisconsin as well as a few key watersheds in the Western United States, consistent with the Laird Norton family's priorities.

We take a long-term view on healthy watersheds and invest in organizational capacity with an eye to future resilience. We encourage our partners to focus not on single-species recovery or restoration to historical conditions as a primary end-goal, but to also consider the potential value of significantly altered — but functioning — ecosystems as we continue to face the impacts of climate change and other natural and human-caused changes into the future.

​We believe the wellbeing of the people who live in a place must be considered alongside ecological goals; understanding the diverse interests and values of a watershed’s human inhabitants is an important component of long-term success. ​

The Lubrizol Foundation

In 1952, Lubrizol established The Lubrizol Foundation, which is dedicated to providing financial support to nonprofit organizations and charities within our local communities. Through the Foundation, we continuously strive to make a meaningful impact and foster sustainable growth in the areas we call home.

Grants will be prioritized for organizations whose missions align with Lubrizol’s community investment priorities and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 2, 3, 4, 11, 13, 14, and 15. These priorities focus on quality education, reducing hunger to promote healthy lives, and creating sustainable communities.

The General Application is for proposals that align with our 2021 – 2030 Strategy and one – or several – of our funding programs.

The General Application is our most flexible application option. The General Application does not have deadlines, so you can submit at any time throughout the year. Through the General Application, you can apply for general operating support or project-specific support. You can also seek funding for planning and innovation, implementation, or scaling activities.

The Russell Foundation

The Russell Foundation supports programs for children and youth that promote their development into confident, competent, and caring adults who will make positive contributions to society.

Our Purpose

To make a positive difference in the lives of children, youth and young adults (thru age 23) so that they can achieve their highest potential.

Supporting qualified charitable organizations, projects and research that seek solutions to detrimental issues – individual and systemic – which achieve enduring positive effects on the physical, intellectual and emotional development of children and youth of all ages and socio-economic status.

Focus Areas

Award grants focus on six areas supporting children and youth. The distribution of grants awarded each year reflects the Foundation’s current emphasis toward each area. The Foundation’s future emphasis may change, but it will consider grant applications addressing any of these focus areas.

• Education: Advancing the learning skills and academic achievements of children from kindergarten to high school using tutoring, mentoring, and talent-coaching that supplement and complement formal educational systems.
• Development: Building the long-term life skills, awareness, and ambition to have the confidence and motivation necessary to pursue goals for the betterment of themselves and society. 
• Intervention: Providing the short-term framework and resources needed to protect children facing immediate difficulties in their living environments that undermine their long-term development.
• Character: Instilling morals and principles that foster ethical behavior, self-responsibility, respect for others, stewardship of the environment, and caring for those in need.
• Health: Fostering and maintaining the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of children that is essential for positive development.
• Medical: Providing services, resources, and other support for specific treatment / correction of birth defects, disease, and physical injury.

Charitable Donations

Sanofi provides donations to non-profit organizations that are aligned with our corporate social responsibility priorities: Health Equity, STEM Education Equity, and Local Communities (programs focusing on social determinants of health).

Healthier Food for All

We aim to help people live healthier by increasing access to healthy food and bringing nutrition and healthcare together.

Expanding access to affordable, healthy food lies at the heart of Walmart’s purpose to help people save money and live better. Walmart and Sam’s Club provide access to low-cost, nutritious food through over 5,000 stores and clubs within 10 miles of 90% of Americans, as well as thousands more grocery delivery and pickup options.

Our philanthropy complements and expands the impact of our business by increasing access to healthy food in underserved communities and creating a closer link between nutrition and healthcare.

For nearly two decades, we’ve helped expand access to food by donating food and strengthening the charitable meal system. Since 2006, our network of Walmart stores, Sam’s Clubs and distribution centers have provided more than 7.5 billion pounds of food to local Feeding America food banks across the country. We've also supported local food banks in innovating, rescuing, and distributing food to those in need. And, through our annual Fight Hunger. Helping Victims Of Domestic Violence And Sexual Assault

Build Awareness, Offer Solutions, And Address Needs

The Robin McGraw and Dr. Phil Foundation is devoted to helping advance organizations and programs that serve victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse and individuals facing crisis to live healthy, safe and joy-filled lives. We also support communities that have been severely affected by disasters.

Dr. Phil McGraw, the most well-known mental health professional in the world launched his award-winning daytime talk show in 2002. Dr. Phil has used his platform to make psychology accessible and understandable to the general public by addressing important personal and social issues. In 2003, Dr. Phil established the Dr. Phil Foundation funding many worthy organizations benefitting disadvantaged families and children.

What We Fund

The following areas are eligible for grant consideration from the foundation: 

Domestic Violence

Emphasis is given to programs that help domestic violence, sexual assault, and sexual traffic victims live healthy, safe and joy-filled lives by providing shelter, support, education, counseling and healing. Preference is given to prevention of domestic violence, the expansion of services and improvements to infrastructure or buildings that positively impact survivors.

Children and Foster Care

Emphasis is given to organizations that seek to provide a strong foundation for the social, emotional, educational and spiritual well-being of children, providing them with access to critically needed services, including safe and loving homes, hunger relief, medical and mental health services, education and job training.

Additionally, we support the importance of family reunification and adoption. Priority is given to organizations affecting change in the foster care system to improve outcomes and create positive experiences for children.

Disaster Relief

In the event of national and international crises, resources will be made available for restricted donations to be received. Support may not be solicited.

NDN Collective

NDN is an Indigenous-led organization dedicated to building Indigenous power. Through organizing, activism, philanthropy, grantmaking, capacity-building and narrative change, we are creating sustainable solutions on Indigenous terms.

Community Self-Determination Grants 

Purpose and Approach

Community Self-Determination Grants are intended to support community-based and community-driven sustainable solutions in all three of NDN Collective’s core strategies to Defend, Develop and Decolonize. Grants are intended to support and invest in the long-term visions and sustainability of Indigenous communities and Indigenous-led organizations, fortifying the self-determination of Indigenous Peoples to create a just, equitable, and sustainable world for all people and the planet. Significant, flexible, multi-year funding will include the infusion of general operating support, capacity building, capital and holistic support for comprehensive initiatives and specific programs.

Community Self-Determination Grants are intended to strengthen and leverage long-term financial sustainability of Indigenous-led organizations, including capital support and investments. This type of funding will not only give Indigenous organizations the kind of runway that has been long understood as healthy for startups and private-sector companies, but transformative for community-based and grass-roots organizations, including those who are closest to the issues and the impact. While we fund national efforts, we intentionally prioritize grassroots, community-based efforts. Climate justice and Indigenous justice are at the heart of the intent behind the Community Self-Determination Grant.

NDN’s grantmaking approach is based on reciprocity and mutual aid, which may include thought partnership and capacity building resources. Relationship is at the core of this approach, encouraging systemic change and participation in which the people most affected take responsibility for one another and for changing systemic conditions. It is up to the community to determine the steps for true self-determination. NDN funds can support the material needs of communities while also addressing root causes and solution building that is shaped by the community. This approach encourages innovative, creative and free thinking for long-term change.

NDN will remain steadfast in its commitment to uphold and advance regenerative, Earth-centered principles of community and economic development. ‘Regenerative’ is the ability to regrow, renew or restore, particularly after loss or damage. NDN’s commitment to a new and better normal is also part of community self-determination, resilience and sustainability, therefore NDN seeks to support Tribes, Indigenous nations, communities and organizations who are also committed to more innovative, sustainable solutions. NDN is deeply committed to supporting Indigenous sovereignty and self-determination that supports justice and equity for people and the planet.

These principles and the NDN Collective’s framework of Defend, Develop, Decolonize will be utilized as a lens in which to review and select grantee-partners.

Community Driven Solutions

Because this program focuses on community-driven solutions, we encourage larger nations and organizations to coordinate among your various departments to submit an application reflecting your community’s efforts to Defend, Develop and Decolonize.

It is the intent of NDN Collective to provide meaningful support across multiple regions, therefore, applicants will be expected to describe their community self-determination efforts within one of the following strategic focus areas that is best suited for their community’s intentions and goals. New or expanded initiatives, or capacity building of existing efforts and entities may also be supported.

Defend

Efforts may include but are not limited to protecting and reclaiming lands, water, and natural resources, such as:

• Grassroots, frontline organizing and community mobilization to defend and protect clean water, air and land from extractive industries and exploitation;
• Indigenous-led environmental movements and efforts to stop the extraction of the earth’s natural resources on and near tribal territories.
• Direct action efforts of the climate and environmental justice movement.

Develop

Efforts may include but are not limited to community and economic development/resilience based on sustainable, regenerative principles, climate change solutions and mitigation, such as:

• Sustainable food systems, food sovereignty and security initiatives; sustainable community agriculture, gardens, food harvesting and processing, community hunting and fishing, sustainable herd management, shared community food pantries and food distribution;
• Community water initiatives; protecting or developing clean water sources; community pumps or wells, water purification and sanitation, ecological wastewater treatment systems, such as constructed wetlands, greywater systems, and composting toilet implementation, and bioremediation of contaminated soils and water;
• Community planning and implementation of sustainable, regenerative, and innovative solutions for community preparedness and resiliency;
• Renewable energy sources, i.e.; wind, solar, geo-thermal
• Energy transition that is environmentally, socially and economically just; that reduces carbon emissions and footprints; Net-Zero initiatives;
• Financial planning and transition to new or alternative revenue streams based on regenerative principles of economic and community development;
• Resilient and regenerative infrastructure improvements or development, including housing, broadband or increased internet speed and capacity; improved or upgraded software systems and technological training to support virtual and tele-abilities to learn, access health, conduct business, up-to-date communications access;
• Capital investments for economic mobility to diversify economies, long-term regenerative business development in various sectors, including decreasing risk of a larger investment; investments in building the capacity of people through education, training, and consulting to be well-equipped leaders in creating just, and resilient economies and infrastructure.

Decolonize

Efforts may include, but are not limited to intergenerational transmission and continuity of language, culture, ceremonial practices, traditional governance and decision-making structures, and lifeways, such as:

• Governance and leadership transformation, transition or development grounded in Indigenous values and practices, including constitutional reforms, reintegration of traditional governance structures, or decentralized, consensus-based decision making practices;
• Indigenous health and safety; providing and reclamation of Indigenous health, wellness, community care, healing and medicinal practices, including social, emotional, and cultural support;
• Language revitalization – Community immersion programs; teacher preparation and language apprentice programs; family language nests;
• Decolonized education models;
• Youth, family and community initiatives to restore, renew and support Indigenous language, cultural practices, creativity and lifeways;
• Community harmony, safety and protection efforts, including addressing physical and sexual violence; Indigenous peace-making and conflict resolution initiatives, community restorative justice practices, protocols and teachings.

Funding

Grants of $100,000 per year, with commitments of two years, are available to Indigenous-led organizations working in the defense, development, and/or decolonization of Indigenous Peoples and Mother Earth, with a maximum grant award of $200,000 for commitments over two years.

Learning Solutions Grant Program

Overview

Empowering students to read and write is fundamental to their ability to learn across subject areas and communicate with others. Building students’ math abilities, from early math skills through algebraic thinking, enables them to make sense of the world around them, analyze complex topics, and solve problems. Together, literacy and numeracy reinforce each other and create a foundation for students to build success in and beyond school – preparing young people to achieve their goals, participate in society, and live happy, healthy lives. 

Foundational literacy and numeracy are especially important now, as students are faced not just with higher expectations, but also unprecedented levels of unfinished learning caused by pandemic-related school closures and the resulting life and mental health challenges that followed. There is a critical need for innovation to increase student access to inspiring and effective K-8 reading and math experiences.

What We’re Looking For

NewSchools will invest in learning solutions that accelerate K-8 reading and math growth by unlocking the power of research and instructional expertise. We will invest in tools, content, and models that address the following critical opportunities:

• Engaging and empowering students to build critical skills, such as reading comprehension and algebraic thinking, that set a foundation for learning and success 
• Supporting teachers and families to deliver grade-level and differentiated instruction that meet a range of student needs

About

Health Care Advocates International (HCAI) is a non-profit health & advocacy organization dedicated to serving the needs of the LGBTQ+ community through prevention, programs, education, advocacy & treatment. As a medical practice and advocacy group, HCAI embraces the whole health (mental, physical and emotional) of the individuals who seek their help. The HCAI team’s mission is to assist all those who walk through their doors. If the needs can’t be met within the walls of HCAI, the organization becomes a conduit to services available elsewhere in the community and beyond.

Through The HCAI Fund, we offer financial and program support to organizations and programs that further HCAI’s mission to end discrimination and support healthy lives for the LGBTQ+ community. The purpose of this policy and procedure is to help HCAI manage and provide guidance for evaluating grant donation requests. Some of our past grant recipients include the New Haven Pride Center, The Yale Gender Program, The Jim Collins Foundation and The Youth Continuum.

Mission

The mission of The HCAI Fund is to provide financial support to organizations that strengthen, serve and advocate for the LGBTQ+ community by addressing basic needs, fostering safety and wellness, fighting stigma and discrimination, and promoting equality and education through programs and services.

The Anxiety & Depression Initiative, Inc. seeks to promote the benefits of an active and healthy lifestyle while living with anxiety, depression and related disorders, to provide general information about mental health resources and to overall help lessen the stigmas associated with anxiety, depression and related disorders.

Get Out & Get Active Grant

The Anxiety & Depression Initiative, Inc (The ADI) is pleased to announce that it is seeking proposals for the Get Out and Get Active Grant, which supports innovative projects that explore and/or promote the mental health benefits of physical activity in the community. We are seeking proposals that facilitate, advocate for or research the benefits of physical activity to improve mental health outcomes, including reducing stress, anxiety, and depression, introducing an active lifestyle, and enhancing a general sense of well-being. Our goal is to advance effective strategies that promote physical activity as a mental health intervention across diverse populations and settings.

Purpose of Funding

This grant supports projects that:

• Utilize physical activity to improve mental health and well-being for those living with mental illness.
• Investigate the relationship between physical activity and mental health.
• Educate the community on the mental health benefits of physical activity.

We prioritize initiatives that identify effective strategies for integrating physical activity as a mental health intervention. Proposals should explore and/or promote the intersection of physical activity and mental health across diverse populations and settings.

Eligible projects may include, but are not limited to:

• Community fitness programs (e.g., group exercise sessions, peer support through physical activity), with the critical component of educating the community about the mental health benefits of physical activity.
• Targeted fitness programs that provide opportunities for individuals living with mental illness to participate in physical activity and incorporate it into their lives.
• Research initiatives on the impact of exercise on mental health and the identification of best practices in integrating physical activity with other therapies.
• Educational campaigns to help raise awareness of physical activity as a mental health tool.
• Advocacy efforts to integrate movement into mental health care and policies.
• Outdoor and recreational therapy programs (e.g., nature-based interventions, adventure therapy).
• Collaborations with mental health professionals and/or physical activity professionals to better incorporate physical activity into mental health treatment plans.

Grant Amount

The ADI offers grants of up to $10,000 to support projects that promote the mental health benefits of physical activity. Funding may cover between 50% and 100% of a project’s total anticipated costs, depending on available funds and the number of applications received.

To be eligible, the total project budget must not exceed $20,000 and the grant request amount cannot be less than half of the project’s total anticipated costs. Salaries/wages paid to employees at your organization do not need to be considered when calculating the total project’s anticipated costs and cannot be paid using this grant’s funding.

Each year, we anticipate awarding a total of $20,000 in grants to eligible applicants.

Environmental Stewardship

We promote the value of environmentally responsible practices to our clients, employee-owners and communities. We are all responsible for the use, stewardship and protection of our natural environment. We support grants that address restoration, renewal, conservation and sustainable best practices of our global resources.

The FDC Foundation is a non-profit foundation founded in 2008 by members of the Cluck family to support charitable organizations within the United States in three principle areas: 

Program Areas

Health & Nutrition: 

Specifically, the FDC Foundation contributes to organizations supporting:

• Improved Nutrition for Americans, including organizations supplying food and food supplements to people in need as well as those providing education regarding proper nutrition.
• The Treatment of Persons with Diabetes, including education, nutrition, medication, and supplies for persons who either now have or who are at high risk of developing diabetes .
• The Expanded Use of Alternative Medicines, including all forms of nontraditional therapies and medications that offer the promise of improving the lives of people, whether healthy or ill .

Education:

Specifically, the FDC Foundation contributes to organizations that support:

• Early Childhood Development Programs, including but not limited to organizations conducting research on the most promising forms of early childhood development and educational institutions currently doing outstanding work in the field .
• Programs for Returning Scholars, supporting organizations that provide financial support (such as reimbursement of tuition, fees, cost of books, and additional living expenses) incurred by persons who return to school to continue their education later in life (beyond the age when that level of education is customarily completed) .
• Literary Achievement, specifically organizations (such as colleges and universities) offering financial support or programs to gifted individuals pursuing the creation of meritorious literary works (poetry, fiction, drama, nonfiction prose, or translation) over a specific time period (such as one year) .

Housing:

Specifically, the FDC Foundation contributes to organizations that provide:

• Housing Opportunities for those who have difficulty finding housing or achieving home ownership. The organizations may support construction of new housing, rehabilitation of existing housing, or financing of housing for people with unusual needs or facing extraordinary challenges .
• Education for careers within the real estate industry, such as the endowment of a chair with the business department of a university.

From Dale Jr.

My career as a race car driver has been well-documented. From winning NASCAR XFINITY Series championships in 1998 and 1999 to securing the coveted Daytona 500 trophy in 2004 and again in 2014, there have been many rewarding experiences that will last a lifetime. But once my career is over and I look back at the achievements that made it special, The Dale Jr. Foundation could very well be one I’m most proud of.

What we’ve accomplished since starting The Dale Jr. Foundation in 2007 has been far beyond my expectations. Thanks to the generosity of many people, we’ve raised more than $8 million to benefit charities that directly impact our communities, schools and fellow citizens. To me nothing is more rewarding than to see people’s lives take a turn for the better and know you might have had something to do with it. I’ve said for many years the best part of my race weekend is meeting kids through Make-A-Wish, which we started doing long before the start of The Dale Jr. Foundation. In fact, these kids were part of the inspiration that led us to start the foundation. Wish kids are the most genuine, respectful and courageous people I meet. They take nothing for granted.

Make-A-Wish is just one of the many organizations The Dale Jr. Foundation supports. Each charitable organization focuses on areas that are important to me, like kids, schools and the underprivileged. I started The Dale Jr. Foundation as a way to help the underdogs, those who haven’t caught the breaks that I was lucky enough to catch.

Five Areas of Giving

Empowerment

The Dale Jr. Foundation supports many organizations that provide safe homes for children who come from traumatic pasts to help them with their hurt and give them a new start. These children have been abused or neglected by no fault of their own and need the resources to overcome their adversities and regain their sense of self confidence.

Education

Research has shown that children who grow up with strong, positive values are happier and do better in school. This is why we feel that providing grants for technology, reading incentives and helping teachers with out-of-pocket expenses is vital to the success of our community.

Wellness

Children need to be healthy in order to reach their full potential which is why we support organizations that provide child-friendly services. These organizations go beyond providing medical services and extending to all forms of holistic care.

Hunger

Food is an essential building block to a child’s physical, social and educational development. Unfortunately over 20+ million children face food insecurities each week. We partner with many different organizations that provide healthy food to children who might otherwise go hungry. 

Hope

We feel that creating a connection with a child, no matter how small it may be, is the greatest way to provide them with the sense of normalcy. This connection can be the positive experience that they need to overcome their obstacles.

The Dale Jr. Foundation believes that it is important to give back to the community and we support the work of numerous nonprofit organizations across the country.
