Bill Rabbit Legacy Art Scholarship

Applicant must be enrolled in an accredited, four-year, higher education institution pursuing a degree in fine arts or art education with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Accepted focuses include drawing, painting, sculpture, pottery, traditional beadwork and textiles. Three pictures of artwork must be included with application for consideration. This is a one-year scholarship reserved for Cherokee Nation and United Keetoowah Band citizens residing within the Cherokee Nation jurisdictional area.

MATRA Scholarship

Awards:

One time award of $7,500. Students may reapply for this scholarship for continued support based on their GPA for up to three years.

David M. Martin Scholarship

This scholarship was established by the E. E. Butler Class of 1969 in memory of David M. Martin, the son of David Jerome Martin and Cornelia Martin.

The scholarship is awarded every other year, based on financial need, to an African American student who is either a graduating senior or currently enrolled in college and pursuing or planning to pursue a career in a STEM-related field. Eligible applicants must also be descendants of any student who attended the historic Fair Street School or E. E. Butler High School in Gainesville-Hall County between 1936 and 1969.

David M. Martin loved computer science and had a lifelong passion for the latest technology. In honor of this, preference will be given to students who share an interest in computer technology and who are majoring in fields such as Information Technology, Computer Information Systems, Security and/or Cybersecurity, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Informatics.

The 2026 scholarship award will be $1,000.

The Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) is pleased to announce two funding opportunities for State Fiscal Year (SFY) 27 under the Virginia Sexual and Domestic Violence Victim Fund (VSDVVF) grant program! The funding opportunities are open to current SFY 26 prosecution, discretionary, forensic/sexual assault nurse examiner VSDVVF subrecipients, as well as new competitive forensic/sexual assault nurse examiner applicants.

In accordance with Code of Virginia § 9.1-116.1, this grant program has three purpose areas:

• Make funds available to local attorneys for the Commonwealth for the purpose of funding the cost of additional attorneys or to further dedicate existing resources to prosecute felonies and misdemeanors involving domestic violence, sexual violence, sexual abuse, stalking, and family abuse;
• Make funds available to law-enforcement authorities or appropriate programs, including civil legal assistance, to assist in protecting and providing necessary services to victims of and children affected by domestic violence, sexual abuse, stalking, and family abuse; and
• Make funds available to sexual assault service providers and hospitals for the purpose of funding the cost of salaries and equipment for sexual assault forensic examiners, sexual assault nurse examiners, and pediatric sexual assault nurse examiners, with priority for funding such costs given to such forensic examiners and nurse examiners serving rural or underserved areas of the Commonwealth.

For this funding opportunity, grants will be awarded to applicants for purpose area three (3) only.

Allowable Costs

Current SFY 2026 VSDVVF forensic/sexual assault nurse examiner grantees are eligible to apply for funding amounts not to exceed the maximum award amounts listed in Attachment A. New competitive sexual assault service providers and hospitals are eligible to apply to for up to $95,000 for the one-year award period.

Applicants are strongly encouraged to request only the minimum number of staff necessary to implement programs. To promote the retention of qualified project staff, applicants are encouraged to request competitive salaries. The requested compensation level should be further documented by comparison of the scope and complexity of work performed to other similar positions receiving similar pay.

• Creative expression submission and letters of recommendation. Financial need will be considered in the event of a tie.

This scholarship was established in 2017 by Coleman, Chambers & Rogers LLP. This scholarship was created out of awareness and gratitude for first responders in North Georgia. This scholarship is available to current and active members of the First Responders, their children and grandchildren for Gainesville, all municipalities and Hall County, Georgia.
