Scholarship Information
Currently, The Community Foundation administers 75 separate endowed scholarship funds. Established by individuals or organizations, these funds help area students achieve their academic and career-oriented goals.
Scholarships through the Community Foundation support individuals of all ages who reside within the Dan River Region – Danville, VA; Pittsylvania and Halifax counties, VA; and Caswell County, NC. In 2025, we awarded more than $370,000 to 152 students.

Woodlawn Academy Scholarship
The Woodlawn Academy Scholarship supports graduating high school students from Danville and Pittsylvania County who are pursuing postsecondary education. Applications are open to eligible graduates, with preference given to former Woodlawn Academy students and immediate family members of former students. The scholarship is intended to help recipients continue their education by reducing financial barriers and honoring the legacy of the Woodlawn Academy community.

William H. Payne Jr. and Agnes T. Payne Scholarship Fund
The William H. Payne Jr. and Agnes T. Payne Scholarship Fund provides financial assistance to graduating students from Danville, Pittsylvania County, Halifax County, or Caswell County who are majoring in education. Preference is given to students who have completed two years of post-secondary education and to those attending a local four-year university who intend to pursue teaching careers within the Foundation’s service area. The scholarship supports the preparation of future educators and encourages graduates to return and serve their local communities.
