These funds support volunteer training and macroinvertebrate data collection for the purpose of assessing water quality that help state and local efforts to protect and manage water resources. Grants may be used to fund a monitoring coordinator and/or purchase water quality monitoring supplies. There is a maximum dollar amount of $20,000 per grant award for two-year projects under this funding area.

The Murdie Educational Scholarship, offered by the Four County Community Foundation, supports high school seniors and recent graduates from Dryden, Almont, and Imlay City pursuing degrees in human or animal health. Eligible students can receive awards between $1,000 and $4,000, with financial need considered. Awardees will be recognized at the Foundation Scholarship Celebration and local high school events in May, promoting educational advancement in the community.

The Mandy's Promise Scholarship, created by Robert and Patricia Schmidt, supports students pursuing veterinary medicine at public colleges in Michigan. Named after their beloved beagle, Mandy, this scholarship aims to nurture future veterinarians and technicians who will care for animals. Eligible applicants are those with financial need, who have attended a Michigan high school, and are enrolled in a veterinary program. This scholarship reflects the donors' commitment to animal welfare and education.

Scholarship Fund Details

Support for West Michigan Students

Attending college or trade school increases opportunity and opens doors to careers. Donor partners who establish a scholarship fund give students a boost on their path to higher education. Students who complete the general scholarship application are considered for these scholarships.

Open to full time, third year or higher undergraduate or graduate students who are 3+ year residents of Kent County, attending University of Michigan to study pre-medicine or medical doctor, with a minimum 3.0 GPA.

The Great Lakes Foundation Grant supports projects aimed at preserving wilderness areas and promoting marine safety in the Great Lakes region. As a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, the foundation has awarded over $318,212 since its inception in 1993. Grants have funded various initiatives, including breakwater construction and academic research, to enhance appreciation and safety of the marine environment for both members and the general public.

The Michigan ACEP: Agricultural Land Easements (ALE) program, administered by the USDA's Natural Resources Conservation Service, aims to protect the agricultural viability of land by preventing nonagricultural uses. It provides financial assistance to eligible partners for purchasing easements that conserve agricultural land, ensuring the long-term sustainability of food supply and environmental quality. Eligible lands include private or Tribal agricultural lands, and NRCS may contribute up to 75% of the easement's fair market value.

The Dollar General Literacy Foundation offers Family Literacy Grants to nonprofit organizations that support family literacy initiatives. Eligible applicants must provide services such as adult education, children's education, and parent-child engagement activities. Organizations must be located within 15 miles of a Dollar General store and have a valid IRS tax ID. This funding aims to enhance literacy skills for families, empowering individuals to achieve their educational goals.
