Coopersville Area Youth Grant Program

The Coopersville Area Community Foundation Youth Advisory Council awards grants annually to support local programs and projects that work to expand programming and opportunities for the young people in our community.

Assisting Our Neighbors In Need

The Consumers Energy Foundation funds capital projects and provides program and operation support in alignment with our commitment to Michigan’s people, planet and prosperity. The Consumers Energy Foundation is dedicated to ensuring Michigan has world-class natural resources by funding programs and organizations that strengthen environmental stewardship, preserve the natural beauty of Michigan and reduce environmental impact when natural resources are used.  

The PNC Foundation aims to enhance the lives of individuals in local communities through partnerships with nonprofit organizations. Their focus includes promoting educational opportunities, particularly for early childhood education, and supporting economic development initiatives. Grants are available for organizations that benefit low- to moderate-income families and enhance community growth. The foundation prioritizes programs that foster sustainability and diversity, ensuring a lasting impact on the communities they serve.

The Brinker International Charitable Giving Program focuses on giving back to communities through support for kids, hunger, and education. Organizations eligible for funding must be 501c(3) non-profits and submit requests at least six weeks prior to events. The program does not support individuals, political or religious organizations, or explicit discrimination policies. Funding is provided through monetary donations or in-kind contributions like dining certificates.

Coopersville Area Grant Program

To begin the process, contact the CACF team to discuss your proposal. We’ll then review your proposal within two weeks of submission to determine whether the project aligns with our grantmaking priorities, and will respond with next steps.

If eligible the appropriate grant application will be made available to you through the online application portal. Grant applications are reviewed with due diligence and may require a follow-up site visit. Lastly, final grant decisions are made with funding recommendations made by the committee and approved through our Board of Trustees.

The Community Foundation for Muskegon County (CFMC) empowers local initiatives through strategic grants aimed at fostering educational attainment, enhancing economic development, and promoting community trust. By supporting diverse projects, CFMC envisions a vibrant, inclusive future for Muskegon County, where every resident can thrive. The PNC Foundation's Grow Up Great Grant is a significant initiative aimed at enhancing educational opportunities for children from birth to age 5. With a commitment of $500 million, this program focuses on improving school readiness through support in vocabulary development, social-emotional learning, and the arts. By partnering with community-based nonprofits, PNC aims to foster stronger, smarter, and healthier communities, ensuring a brighter future for the next generation.

The Community Empowerment Small Grants (CESGs) by the Community Foundation for Muskegon County aim to strengthen local communities through grassroots initiatives. Designed for organizations with budgets under $100,000, these grants support projects such as neighborhood clean-ups, financial literacy classes, and community conversations. Eligible applicants include residents, neighborhood associations, and grassroots groups. Grants can range from $500 to $3,000, fostering educational advancement and enhancing community relationships.

The Gerber Foundation supports youth programs in West Michigan, focusing on projects benefiting children from birth to 18 years. Emphasizing health, nutrition, literacy, and education, grants typically are under $10,000, with an average size of less than $5,000. Collaborative programs are encouraged. The foundation prioritizes initiatives that enhance the quality of life for young children, particularly those in Lake, Muskegon, Newaygo, and Oceana Counties.

The Frey Foundation Grant focuses on enhancing community well-being through initiatives in four key areas: Building Community, Children & Families, Community Arts, and Environment. The foundation supports projects that ensure access to affordable housing, quality child care, and cultural experiences while preserving Michigan’s natural resources. Eligible organizations must meet specific guidelines and can expect a response within 30 days of their inquiry. Funding is available for collaborative projects that promote inclusivity and address community needs.

The mission of the Community Foundation is to engage donors and connect them with opportunities to make a lasting impact, build community endowment, provide leadership on key issues, and make grants that reflect the communities we serve.

At the Community Foundation for Muskegon County, we support programs that drive lasting change. Through grants, we partner with local organizations to meet the diverse needs of our community and fulfill our donors’ goals to improve life in Muskegon County, both now and in the future.

Muskegon County Housing Initiative

Strategic Leadership Grants: A Call for Housing Proposals

The Community Foundation’s vision to build a vibrant community with great opportunities for all serves as the basis for our values: hope and opportunity, particularly for youth; collaborative community goals and decision-making; and an inclusive community.

In the fall of 2023, the Community Foundation, collaborating with local municipalities and economic development agencies, commissioned a study on Muskegon County’s current needs and opportunities. The study revealed that Muskegon County needs 9,000 housing and rental units across the housing continuum over the next five years to meet demand and stabilize the local housing market. To help increase the availability, accessibility, and affordability of housing, the Community Foundation has committed at least $1M in grants and up to $5M in loans to support local housing efforts.

Housing Grants

Nonprofit organizations, including schools, governmental units, and faith-based organizations, must initiate grant requests. Strategies may include for-profit partners and collaborators.

Priority for grants will be given to suggested projects such as:

• First-time homeowners’ assistance, including home-ownership education
• Developer incentives with a focus on workforce housing (180% AMI)
• Explore options to preserve affordability, such as the creation of a Land Trust
• Work with current landlords to facilitate a transition to homeownership for tenants in good standing
• Work with municipalities to incentivize implementation of zoning best practices and tools to incentivize development
• Invest in supporting seniors in a transition to their next phase of housing 

In addition, the Community Foundation is working collaboratively with leadership from the City of Muskegon Heights as a geographic focus area for investment in publicly owned lands. Grants and loans will be made to projects that meet at least one of the following:

• Purchase and remediate public land and/or blighted properties to prep for development
• Create development packages around publicly owned land in Muskegon Heights to incentivize development
• Support home improvements for neighboring properties
• Support for community listening sessions to create a shared vision around public land development for housing

At least $1,000,000 will be granted over the next few years. We envision that multiple grants will be supported in the $20,000-$50,000 range. Multiyear requests, with phased-out funding over three years, will be considered.

The DTE Energy Foundation Tree Planting Grants, supported by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, aim to enhance tree planting efforts across public lands within DTE Energy's service area. This initiative encourages local governments, schools, and nonprofits to engage in sustainable tree planting projects to foster environmental stewardship and community revitalization. By focusing on properly planted and maintained trees, the program seeks to protect natural resources and promote a greener future for all.

The Ferguson Cares Grant is an essential aspect of Ferguson's Sustainability strategy, focusing on social challenges and community wellbeing. This grant supports nonprofit organizations in the U.S. dedicated to affordable housing, skilled trades workforce development, clean water access, and enhancing local economic quality of life. Ferguson aims to create lasting partnerships that drive positive impact within their operational regions, reflecting their commitment to social responsibility and community support.

The Michigan Coastal Management Program Grant aims to foster resilient coastal communities by funding projects that protect sensitive resources and promote biodiversity. With approximately $1,000,000 available, the grant encourages initiatives that enhance public access, mitigate coastal hazards, and support diversity and equity within communities. It emphasizes the importance of community engagement and technical training to address climate change impacts and improve resilience through innovative solutions.

The Consumers Energy Foundation Grant aims to assist Michigan communities by funding innovative projects that enhance people's lives, protect the environment, and promote economic prosperity. Eligible applicants must align their initiatives with the foundation's focus areas, which include reducing poverty, environmental preservation, and economic development. Notably, the foundation primarily supports tax-exempt organizations based in Michigan, while also considering projects that significantly benefit the state. Applicants are encouraged to review eligibility criteria and grant standards before applying.

Potawatomi Hotel & Casino is committed to community support through philanthropy, providing jobs and financial assistance. Their Heart of Canal Street program has donated over $13.6 million since 1994, helping local children. They recycle used playing cards for nonprofit organizations and donate auction items for fundraising events within a 125-mile radius. However, they do not support K-12 schools or for-profit entities, ensuring their contributions are directed to those in need.

The MI Forest Legacy Grant Program, managed by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, aims to protect vital forest lands from conversion into non-forest uses. It promotes conservation through funding for projects like fee transactions and conservation easements, ensuring long-term stewardship and public access. Eligible projects receive up to 75% federal funding, with landowners contributing the remainder. This initiative is crucial for maintaining sustainable forests and their ecological benefits.

Spectrum Digital Education Grants support nonprofit organizations in educating communities about broadband benefits and usage. These grants aim to bridge the digital divide, particularly for seniors and those with disabilities or ethnically diverse backgrounds. Applicants must demonstrate community partnership, address specific needs, and provide measurable impact metrics. With a focus on financial feasibility and meaningful outcomes, this initiative ensures that underrepresented urban and rural communities gain access to essential digital resources, fostering long-term improvement in their lives.

The Faith Partner Literacy Grants support collaborations between churches and nonprofit organizations to enhance literacy and educational equity. Eligible churches can receive up to $3,000 for programs aimed at lifelong literacy. The initiative encourages innovative projects that foster community involvement and do not require church membership for participation. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until funds are depleted, ensuring continuous support for impactful literacy initiatives.

The Muskegon LEAD Grant supports initiatives focused on diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice in Muskegon County. This grant is awarded to nonprofit organizations, schools, and governmental units dedicated to fostering a vibrant and inclusive community. Applicants must submit a compelling summary detailing their mission, existing JEDI-related programs, and future plans for impact, with a funding request between $5,000 and $7,000 to enhance their efforts.

The Wolverine Worldwide Foundation Grant aims to enhance community well-being through dedicated support in areas such as health, education, and environmental sustainability. Founded in 1959, the foundation focuses on promoting healthy lifestyles, diversifying trades, and advancing community initiatives. By engaging with local organizations, it fosters inclusive opportunities across West Michigan, Boston, Richmond, and London, ultimately striving for a positive impact in the communities it serves.
