Our Home State Grant Program

Our Home State works to ensure Minnesota’s housing ecosystem has the power and resources to create an equitable future where all Minnesotans have a stable home they can afford.

A collaborative effort by the Saint Paul & Minnesota Foundation, F. R. Bigelow Foundation and Mardag Foundation, with additional support from businesses, peer foundations and individual donors, the Our Home State Grant Program seeks to increase access to housing across Minnesota. Our Home State North Star: Minnesota’s housing ecosystem has the power and resources to create an equitable future where all Minnesotans have a stable home they can afford.

The grants support organizations and programs that provide pathways to affordable, quality housing supports organizations and programs that ensure access to affordable housing or emergency shelter.

Our Home State Ecosystem Grant Program 

The Our Home State Ecosystem Grant Program supports organizations and programs that ensure access to affordable housing or emergency shelter. Ecosystem Grants will be offered for general operating support.

• For shelter: grant amounts will be $100,000 per year for a five-year grant period, for total grant amounts of $500,000 per grantee.
• For affordable housing: grant amounts will be up to $150,000 per year for a five-year grant period, for total grant amounts of $750,000 per grantee.

In 2026, we plan to select ten shelter and ten affordable housing grantees. Seven East Metro and three Greater MN/Tribal grantees in each focus area.

Systems Change Grant Program 

Our Systems Change Grant Program supports efforts to help systems adapt, transform and/or be disrupted to achieve more equitable results.

F. R. Bigelow Foundation believes that our community should not only benefit from our work, but inform and form it as well. Creating solutions to today’s issues requires a collaborative approach. Our work is also rooted in a commitment to racial equity.

The goal of our Systems Change Grant Program is to support efforts to help systems adapt, transform and/or be disrupted to achieve more equitable results.

To do this, we support organizations, programs or initiatives in or serving the East Metro working to address root causes of issues impacting the East Metro.

General operating support will be awarded to organizations, programs or initiatives in or serving the East Metro working to address root causes of any issue impacting the East Metro (including, but not limited to, the five funding priorities of our Community Solutions Grant Program). 

In 2026, up to $1,200,000 is available for this grant program, and we anticipate awarding approximately two to three grants.

The WCA Foundation Grant, a part of The Minneapolis Foundation, aims to empower nonprofit organizations that directly serve women, particularly those in the Twin Cities. With a focus on civic participation, inclusion, and upward mobility, the grant supports initiatives fostering strong communities. Eligible applicants must be 501(c)(3) organizations responsible for their projects, while grants can be for general operations or specific projects. This initiative reflects a commitment to dismantling barriers and promoting the welfare of women.

The Conservation Partners Legacy Grant Program, managed by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, offers competitive grants ranging from $5,000 to $500,000 for projects that restore, protect, or enhance vital habitats like prairies and wetlands. Applicants must provide a 10% match of non-state funds and the total project cost cannot exceed $1,000,000. Focused on habitat benefits, the program emphasizes conservation easements and public ownership for funded projects.

Strengthening Jewish Life Through Strategic Investment

The St. Paul Jewish Federation provides grants that empower organizations to create, expand, and sustain programs aligned with our mission: building a vibrant, inclusive, and connected Jewish community across our 12-county region.

Our Community Impact Funding supports innovative initiatives, essential operations, and rapid-response needs—advancing Jewish education, engagement, equity, and continuity.

Regional Grantmaking for a Connected Jewish Community

The St. Paul Jewish Federation serves Jewish individuals and families across a 12-county region, from Pine County to Steele County and from Wabasha to Kanabec. Jewish life in our region is geographically dispersed, with people connected through colleges and universities, schools, congregations, social service organizations, and community institutions spread across urban, suburban, and rural communities.

Regional grantmaking ensures that distance does not limit access, visibility, or belonging. Through Community Impact Funding, the Federation invests strategically in organizations and initiatives that meet people where they are, strengthen essential operations, support innovation, and respond quickly to emerging needs — advancing Jewish education, engagement, equity, and continuity so that no Jew ever feels alone, no matter where they live or learn.

St. Paul Jewish Federation: Burst Micro-Grants

Fast, flexible support for urgent or small-scale needs.

Burst Micro Grants offer up to $2,500 in rapid-response funding to support urgent needs, pilot programs, or small-scale events that arise outside of Pillar or Ignite grant cycles. Requests should align with Federation priorities and are open to Jewish organizations serving the St. Paul Jewish Federation service area.

Applicants are eligible to receive one Burst Micro Grant every 12 months. Applicants can expect a decision on the grant within approximately 30 days of receipt of the request. Applicants must demonstrate organizational health, alignment with Federation priorities, and a measurable community benefit. Organizations that receive Burst Micro Grants are also eligible to apply for Pillar Grants or K-12 Education formula funding and Ignite Grants.

The Farmers Market Grant Program by Compeer Financial aims to support organizations enhancing services at farmers markets. Grants of up to $1,000 are available for marketing efforts, technology upgrades, and vendor education. Eligible applicants must be bona fide farmers markets with at least three vendors of locally-produced products and must operate in the designated 144-county area. Priority is given to markets that have not previously received funding.

The Emergency Response Equipment Grant Program by Compeer Financial aims to bolster rural communities by providing funding for essential emergency response equipment for volunteer fire, rescue, and ambulance departments. With grants up to $4,000, this initiative ensures that first responders have the necessary tools to protect and serve their communities effectively. Eligibility is limited to rural departments in the 144-county territory, ensuring that help reaches those who need it most.

The Agriculture Education Grant, funded by Compeer Financial, aims to enhance high school agriculture programs by providing up to $4,000 for classroom equipment and educational initiatives. This grant promotes hands-on learning and modern technologies, ensuring students are well-equipped to explore the evolving agricultural landscape. Eligible applicants include high school agriculture departments within a specified 144-county territory, with a focus on schools that have not received funding in the past two years.

The PLTW Launch program, supported by Burns and McDonnell, aims to enhance student engagement in STEM education within eligible communities. This initiative will provide grants to schools that implement at least one PLTW Launch module in the 2025-2026 academic year, followed by another module in subsequent years. The program is designed to empower students with hands-on learning experiences that connect real-world challenges to essential skills, fostering a stronger future in STEM fields.

• Programs that protect vulnerable children and support families in need of assistance.
• We also support projects that improve community safety and guide youth to become productive and engaged adults.

The Butler Family Foundation Community Grant provides two-year funding to 501(c)(3) organizations in Minnesota focused on arts, environment, and human services. Grants support general operations or specific projects, with minimum awards of $30,000 for operating costs and $20,000 for program support. Priority is given to organizations serving urban areas of St. Paul and Minneapolis, promoting community arts, environmental stewardship, and essential services for vulnerable populations, particularly youth and families.

The Stantec Community Engagement Grant is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in communities where Stantec operates. Focused on arts, education, environment, and health and wellness, the grant supports initiatives that foster sustainable development and responsible practices. Organizations seeking funding must align with Stantec's values, emphasizing ethical practices and community impact. Preference is given to projects located near Stantec offices, ensuring a more significant local impact through their contributions.

• Programs that provide professional services to under-resourced families who may not otherwise have access.
• We support programs that help to identify existing problems or challenges in our local communities and provide the means and resources to solve them.

The Westinghouse Charitable Giving Program aims to strengthen community ties by providing financial support in key areas such as education focused on STEM, environmental sustainability, and community safety. This program welcomes applications from eligible organizations that meet specific grant criteria, including being tax-exempt and located within 50 miles of a Westinghouse site. The initiative underscores Westinghouse's commitment to advancing education, promoting environmental stewardship, and enhancing community well-being.

May Family Foundation Mentoring Grant

Our foundation strives to be engaged in our local communities beyond grant funding. We support select programs that align with our goals and form a connection through potential volunteering opportunities, site visits, and recognition of successes.

• Programs that pair students with adult mentors who provide guidance and support to help students succeed academically and develop important life skills.
• These can go beyond the classroom, such as sports and recreation enrichment programs.

The Community Sharing Fund Grant provides essential support for families and individuals in Dakota, Ramsey, and Washington Counties facing unexpected financial emergencies. With grants ranging from $100 to $1,500, the fund helps address urgent health and human services needs while prioritizing those who have not received funds in the past 18 months. This initiative aims to prevent crises that could lead to unemployment or homelessness, making it a vital resource for community resilience.

The MRAC Flexible Support Grant Program aims to enhance arts access for Minnesotans by funding projects that promote arts programming and strengthen organizational capacity. For FY2024, $4,301,763 is allocated, with $3,000,000 designated for organizations led by individuals who identify as BIPOC or LGBTQIA2+. This initiative encourages communities to sustain and grow their arts offerings, fostering inclusivity and diversity in the arts sector.

The GWBLCF Community Partners Grants support innovative nonprofit organizations and government entities serving the Greater White Bear Lake area. With up to $100,000 available annually, the grants focus on education, social services, health, arts, culture, and civic engagement. Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) nonprofits, schools, or government entities. This competitive grant cycle encourages projects that strengthen community ties and enhance the quality of life in the region.

The Visual Arts Fund (VAF), established by Midway Contemporary Art with support from The Andy Warhol Foundation, offers $60,000 in grants for artist-organized projects in the Twin Cities metro area. This initiative encourages diverse visual arts projects with public engagement components, including exhibitions, performances, and digital initiatives. The program emphasizes innovative projects that might not otherwise occur, fostering a vibrant artistic community while adhering to specific eligibility criteria.

The Deluxe Corporation Foundation's ERG Grant Program supports diverse and inclusive initiatives by empowering employee resource groups (ERGs) to partner with nonprofits addressing relevant social issues. Each of the ten ERGs will award a $25,000 grant to a selected organization, fostering community impact and collaboration. The foundation, established in 1954, has invested over $109 million in charitable causes, focusing on financial literacy, education, and community support to enhance lives and promote entrepreneurship.

The Minnesota Racial Equity Fund Grant aims to foster lasting change by supporting organizations in the Twin Cities that address historic systemic racism affecting communities of color. Grants typically range from $5,000 to $10,000, focusing on employment, education, and community safety. Only tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organizations in Hennepin and Ramsey counties are eligible. This initiative is part of H.B. Fuller Company Foundation's commitment to racial equity and community empowerment.

• Programs with trained instructors that provide students with opportunities to participate in enrichment activities to learn new things and develop skills they will find useful in real life.

The North Star Black Cooperative Fellowship aims to empower Black-led cooperatives by reconnecting them with their historical roots in cooperative economics. This seven-month program encourages participants to reclaim the legacy of Black economic cooperation, offering training in governance, conflict resolution, and cooperative skills. With a focus on community building and collective care, the fellowship includes stipends and support for creating cooperative economic projects, fostering a vision of self-governance and shared prosperity among Black communities.

The Roger D. Gordon Endowed Evans Professional and Graduate Degree Award, established in 1930, supports University of Minnesota Evans Scholars pursuing graduate studies. Funded by the Western Golf Association and golfer Chick Evans Jr., this award offers full tuition and housing to deserving caddies demonstrating financial need. Eligible recipients include Evans Scholars alumni and current graduate students in good standing at UMN-Twin Cities. This grant is crucial for empowering future leaders in their academic journeys.

The Neighborhood Builders Program, supported by Bank of America, empowers 501(c)(3) nonprofits through a two-year leadership development initiative. Participants receive funding, training, and networking opportunities to enhance their impact in communities. Since its inception, the program has invested over $346 million, training more than 4,000 leaders. The initiative focuses on advancing social mobility and economic opportunities, ensuring affordable housing, and fostering resilient communities. This program is vital for nonprofits aiming to strengthen their leadership and community engagement.
