Family Place Libraries™ Grant 

The Family Place Libraries Training Institute (Family Place) provides theoretical grounding and practical training for library staff in family-centered library services. By expanding the traditional role of children's services, Family Place participants build on the knowledge that good health, early learning, parent or guardian involvement, and supportive communities play a critical role in young children's growth and development.

Family Place participants will be able to create the network that families need to nurture their children's development during the critical first years of life. Family Place provides training and resources to help participants redesign their library environment to:

• Create a welcoming and developmentally appropriate environment for children beginning at birth.
• Connect parents with the resources, programs, and services offered at the library and other family service agencies.
• Connect with non-traditional library users.
• Ensure children have access to resources that will allow them to enter school ready and able to learn.

The Family Place Libraries model was developed by the Middle Country Public Library in Centereach, New York. Currently, there are 126 Family Place library locations in Texas. 

Applicants may submit an application to become a new Family Place Library or expand their current program to an additional location. 

The Wichita Falls Area Community Foundation offers the WFACF Grant Cycle to support 501(c)(3) organizations and charitable projects in North Texas. Grants aim to promote philanthropy and enhance community well-being across various sectors including arts, education, and health. Eligible applicants must be located in specific counties and adhere to grant policies. The foundation is dedicated to responsible funding to meet the needs of the community while ensuring compliance with regulations.

The Powell Foundation Grant Program aims to support 501(c)(3) organizations in Texas, focusing on education, arts, conservation, and human services. They emphasize high-quality early childhood programs, K-12 education, post-secondary success, and community welfare. Eligible applicants must submit an online pre-application, with funding decisions announced in January and July. The foundation prioritizes initiatives that foster developmental support and educational access for children and families, enhancing community well-being through strategic investments.

The Heritage Preservation Grant from the City of Austin aims to enhance local heritage tourism through capital projects that restore historic sites. With a focus on accessibility and community engagement, the program supports initiatives that preserve Austin's cultural heritage while creating opportunities for tourism. Eligible applicants include for-profit businesses and non-profits with a minimum two-year operation in the area. Projects must comply with historic preservation standards and demonstrate a direct benefit to tourism.

The Heritage Preservation Grant by the City of Austin supports initiatives aimed at enhancing heritage tourism and preserving historic sites. With maximum funding of $150,000, projects must involve historically designated locations and can include events, exhibits, and tours that highlight local history. Eligible applicants include non-profits and businesses with a commitment to community engagement and storytelling. The grant emphasizes accessibility to heritage resources while fostering economic growth in the creative sector.

The Heritage Preservation Grant promotes historic preservation projects aimed at enhancing tourism through local history. The grant supports capital projects or heritage events that foster access to historical sites and heritage resources, engaging both residents and tourists. Notably, all capital projects must possess a historic designation. The initiative's goals include increasing heritage tourism in Austin, preserving historic spaces, and creating jobs in the creative economy, with funding of up to $50,000 available for eligible projects.

The Thoma Foundation Conservation Grant supports projects aimed at preserving South American viceregal art. Annually, up to $50,000 is awarded to selected proposals focusing on preventive conservation, restoration, and research initiatives. The grant encourages international applicants, particularly from Latin America, to enhance leadership and education in art conservation. Projects must include a preservation professional and can range from early planning to advanced implementation, contributing to the safeguarding of historical artworks.

TSLAC Special Projects Grant

Goals and Purposes

This grant program provides funds for efforts that will significantly expand library services to include all members of the library’s community, particularly community members who experience barriers when accessing the library and its resources. It enables libraries to develop programs for populations with special needs or those having difficulty using the library. Programs that focus on community engagement or that involve collaboration with other community organizations are strongly encouraged. Programs must emphasize improved services by the library to its patrons.

The proposed program must meet the following LSTA goals as identified in the 2023-2027 LSTA 5- Year Plan (https://www.tsl.texas.gov/ld/pubs/lstaplan/5yearplan):

Goals

• Through Texas libraries, Texans will have access to digital resources and services needed to help them navigate the digital information landscape successfully.
• Texans will have access to library materials and services that support literacy and educational attainment, especially early childhood and family literacy, workforce readiness, and lifelong learning.
• Texans will receive library services from trained library staff that effectively respond to community needs.

The purpose of this grant program is not for collection development or other activities primarily focused on the acquisition of library materials or resources, or digitization projects.

The Forever Austin Fund Grant offers support for urgent and systemic needs in Central Texas, focusing on economic mobility, health, and environmental sustainability. Through collaborative efforts, grants will be awarded to eligible 501(c)(3) organizations, with amounts ranging from $5,000 to $50,000. This fund aims to empower communities by addressing barriers and fostering long-term growth, with a commitment to improving health outcomes and preserving natural resources. Applications are welcome from diverse organizations serving the Central Texas region.

The Texas Commission on the Arts (TCA) Cultural District Designation Program aims to enhance economic development and community vitality by designating cultural districts across Texas. These districts leverage cultural resources to attract artists, encourage tourism, and preserve historic sites, fostering local cultural identity and economic growth. Eligible applicants include various arts organizations and government agencies, while funding excludes expenses related to social functions, operating costs for certain facilities, and projects lacking community involvement.

The Carl B. and Florence E. King Foundation supports community grants in Arkansas and West Texas, focusing on areas such as aging populations, arts and culture, children and youth, economically disadvantaged individuals, education, and nonprofit capacity building. Grants aim to enhance the quality of life, promote independence, and ensure access to essential services for vulnerable groups. Eligible applicants are local organizations that align with the foundation's mission and geographic focus.

The Texas Preservation Trust Fund Grant, administered by the Texas Historical Commission, provides matching grants to support the preservation of Texas' historic and archaeological resources. Grants range from $10,000 to $50,000, requiring a 1:1 cash match. The program prioritizes endangered properties and significant archaeological sites, focusing on activities like restoration, preservation planning, and heritage education. This initiative aims to protect Texas' cultural heritage while enhancing community identity and economic development through historic preservation.

TexTreasures Grant

TexTreasures Grants are designed to help libraries make their special collections more accessible for the people of Texas and beyond. Activities considered for possible funding include: 

• digitization
• microfilming
• cataloging

There are two options for funding under the TexTreasures program:

• TexTreasures Basic which will award grants of up to $10,000 to small libraries (serving a population of up to 25,000) with little or no experience with digitization. Funding will support vendor contract services to increase access to collections with local or regional significance. 
• TexTreasures Original which will continue to support libraries seeking to provide access to special or unique collections of statewide interest and greater complexity. The maximum award is $40,000 for applications from single institutions and $50,000 for collaborative grant projects.

The A. M. Pate Jr. Charitable Trust Grant supports charitable organizations in Texas, primarily focusing on those engaged in religious, educational, and artistic endeavors. Established by philanthropists Adlai McMillan Pate Jr. and Joyce Pate Capper, the foundation emphasizes historical preservation and civic contributions. Grants typically range from $10,000 to $15,000, with a preference for organizations serving Tarrant County and those the grantor supported during their lifetime.

Texas Reads Grant

Goals and Purposes

This grant program funds public library programs to promote reading and literacy within local communities. Programs may be targeted to the entire community or to a segment of the community.

Programs focusing on community engagement or involving collaboration with other community organizations are strongly encouraged. The agency may designate specific funding priorities for each grant cycle in response to identified needs. If this occurs, staff will provide details of funding priorities and scoring implications to applicants and to the peer review panel.

These programs must meet the following LSTA goal as identified in the 2023-2027 LSTA 5-Year Plan

Motivated by the desire to enhance the quality of life for those in Hays County and Central Texas, the Burdine Johnson Foundation awards grants to local charitable organizations involving the arts, education, health and human services, the environment and historic preservation.

Beyond our geographic range, The Burdine Johnson Foundation principally supports charities in five categories: arts, education, health and human services, the environment and historic preservation. In 2016, the foundation donated 12% to arts, 17% to education, 32% to health and human services, 13% to the environment, 24% to historic preservation and 1% to other humanitarian causes, totaling $1,607,395.

Impact San Antonio Grants empower nonprofit organizations in the region by providing funding for initiatives that focus on Arts & Culture, Education, Environment & Preservation, Family, and Health & Wellness. Since 2004, over $2.6 million has been awarded to impactful projects. Eligible applicants must be recognized 501(c)(3) organizations operating within designated Texas counties, ensuring a significant positive contribution to their communities.

The Ippolito Charitable Foundation of Galveston focuses on enhancing the quality of life in Galveston, Texas through grants aimed at economic development, conservation, and historical preservation. With an emphasis on community collaboration, the foundation supports 501c3 nonprofit organizations operating locally. Grants of up to $10,000 are available, and only one proposal per organization is considered annually, ensuring targeted and impactful funding for community-driven initiatives.

The Battlefield Preservation Fund Grant aims to support initiatives that preserve battlefields and related historic sites. This funding encourages planning and educational efforts, particularly those that engage new audiences in preservation activities. Eligible applicants include public agencies and nonprofits in specified states. Grants can be used for staff support, consultant fees, and educational materials. Applicants must provide a one-to-one match for funding, ensuring strong community involvement in preservation efforts.
