J.M. Rubin Foundation

The J.M. Rubin Foundation's current focus is to provide scholarships to residents of Palm Beach County at any recognized educational institution. At the discretion of the Board, we provide charitable support to some organizations. However, we strive to limit this giving to local institutions or to the benefit of our local community.

Scholarship Overview

The J.M. Rubin Foundation, Inc. is a Florida not-for-profit charitable corporation established in 1973. It has been approved by the Internal Revenue Service to make individual scholarship grants to recipients who must be bona fide residents of Palm Beach County, Florida.

In addition, all applicants must be U.S. citizens. The scholarship recipients need not attend any particular school, so long as the recipient is a candidate for certification or a degree. The recipients will be selected on the basis of academic and/or athletic achievement or promise as the basic criterion. Financial need is an additional factor, however, it is not required. The recipients will be selected from applicants on an objective and nondiscriminatory basis, including personal interviews if deemed necessary.

The State Occupational Safety and Health Surveillance Program (U60) aims to enhance state-level occupational safety and health (OSH) surveillance capacity. Funded by NIOSH, this initiative supports various state programs, fostering partnerships among health departments and universities. By utilizing diverse data sources, these programs assess workplace health impacts and develop tailored interventions, ultimately ensuring better health and safety for workers across the U.S. This collaborative approach addresses critical gaps left by regulatory programs.

Generally the Community Foundation's scholarships are awarded to applicants who have high financial need. Applicants with household income exceeding $100,000 are less likely to be awarded, but applying will allow you to be considered for targeted scholarships.

Robert L. & Hilda Treasure Mitchell Scholarship

Open to students who are residents of Kent County. 

The World Trade Center Youth Research Coordinating Center aims to establish a research cohort to study the health impacts on youth exposed to the 9/11 events. This initiative, backed by the NIOSH, will focus on individuals aged 21 or younger at the time of exposure, including those in utero. The Center will integrate diverse expertise to assess long-term health and educational effects while enhancing community engagement and stakeholder communication throughout its activities.

The AAF Dallas Foundation Scholarship Fund offers up to $2,000 in one-year scholarships for current college students pursuing degrees in advertising and marketing. Established in 1953 by the Communities Foundation of Texas, this fund supports eligible students classified as sophomores, juniors, or graduate students with a minimum 3.0 GPA from specific Texas counties. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or documented residents, ensuring accessibility for those committed to their academic and professional futures.

Grand Rapids Community Foundation

The Community Foundation is a nonprofit organization that connects people, passion and resources. Jacob R. & Mary M. VanLoo & Lenore K. VanLoo Scholarship

Open to undergraduate students who are residents of Kent County.

The Neal Foundation Trust Grant supports organizations dedicated to the humane treatment of animals. With a focus on local community projects, the foundation funds initiatives aimed at reducing pet overpopulation and alleviating animal suffering. Eligible programs include spay/neuter services, fostering, and humane education. The foundation prioritizes projects that demonstrate significant local impact, ensuring a compassionate approach to addressing the needs of abandoned and neglected animals.

The Economic Development Grants offered by the City of Houston aim to stimulate business and commercial activity by providing financial assistance to eligible public, private, and nonprofit organizations. This program facilitates a structured application process, involving multiple stages of assessment and collaboration with city departments to ensure alignment with local initiatives. By investing public funds into viable projects, the city fosters economic growth and development, ultimately benefiting the community and enhancing local infrastructure.

We are honored to be the stewards of over 90 scholarship funds established by philanthropically-minded individuals in our community. Generous donors entrust us to connect them to dynamic students to provide financial resources for their education through scholarships. Our donors establish scholarship funds with criteria they wish to be met by applicants. Our scholarship committee considers the criteria, evaluates the submitted applications, and chooses the best candidates for each scholarship.

Peoples Security Bank and Trust Company Scholarship Fund

This scholarship fund was established in December 2024 to support educational expenses for customers or the children/dependents of customers of Peoples Security Bank and Trust Company who intend to pursue postsecondary education.

The fund supports ten $1,000 scholarships awarded annually to graduating high school seniors who are customers of Peoples Security Bank and Trust Company, or who have a parent or guardian who is a customer, and who plan to pursue postsecondary education.

This scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior from Mountain View High School, Montrose High School, Elk Lake High School, or Lackawanna Trail High School who demonstrates academic achievement, good citizenship and service to others, leadership, and community service.

The Theodore P. (Ted) Minor Memorial Scholarship Fund, administered by the Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts, supports graduating seniors from Chicopee high schools. This fund is part of a broader scholarship program that provides financial assistance to eligible students from multiple counties, helping to offset costs associated with attending accredited post-secondary institutions. By promoting accessibility to education, the scholarship aims to enrich the lives of students in the community.

• Scholarships may be used to offset tuition, fees, room and board, and other items included as part of the cost for attending the institution. 
• Most scholarships are for students who live in Franklin, Hampshire, and Hampden Counties. However, some are also available to students who live in Berkshire County and Hartford County in Connecticut.
• We offer scholarships to those who attend on either a full-time or part-time basis. 
• Any student who plans to enroll for the upcoming fall semester, in any year of college as an undergraduate or graduate student and who will attend an accredited post-secondary school in the United States may apply.
• Scholarships are provided for one academic year and are not automatically renewed each year. You can reapply to our program every year you are going to attend college, and the application you submit that year will be considered for all scholarships for which you are eligible.

National Assoc. of Insurance and Financial Advisors Scholarship Fund

To support graduating high school seniors from Berkshire, Franklin, Hampden and Hampshire Counties who have a parent who is deceased or have a parent who receives Social Security disability benefits.

The Aging Research Dissertation Awards aim to enhance diversity in the scientific workforce by funding research on aging and related health conditions. The program encourages applicants from underrepresented backgrounds to apply for dissertation awards that align with the National Institutes of Health's strategic priorities. Key deadlines for applications include February 16, June 16, and October 16 for the years 2024 through 2026.

Cathryn "Kate" George Frechen Scholarship

The Cathryn “Kate” Goerge Frechen Scholarship Fund was established in 1999 by Kay Sparks, niece of Cathryn “Kate” Goerge Frechen in her aunt’s memory. This scholarship supports graduating seniors from Pewamo-Westphalia Community Schools seeking further education in an accredited educational program in the US. The committee seeks to award a promising student who demonstrates financial need and potential scholastic ability (not necessarily demonstrated solely by grades).

Cascade and Chelan School Districts ELL Scholarship

The Cascade and Chelan School Districts ELL (English as a second language) Scholarship provides financial support for students who have passed the Washington Language Proficiency Test (WLPT) and are pursuing further education.

Eagles Soar Scholarship Fund

Tribute:

The scholarship was established by the Golden Eagle Club, Inc. in 2021. It is comprised of graduates of Hokes Bluff High School that have been out of school for 50 plus years. The award is made possible by donations and proceeds of a wind turbine in Texas via 1951 Hokes Bluff graduate, Mr. Don Street.

Award:

The scholarship benefits individuals pursuing a certificate, associate's degree, bachelor’s degree, or a State of Alabama-approved workforce training program. This one-time award is for either part-time or full-time enrolled students to attend any accredited institution of higher learning in the United States.

The Community Foundation will project and allocate the assets available for scholarship awards depending on the Fund's annual income. This Scholarship is strictly funded based on available assets. The award is renewable and may include tuition, institutional housing, books, and fees. Due to the renewable nature of the Fund, it may not be available on an annual basis. 

The Point Foundation Access Scholarship is dedicated to supporting LGBTQ+ and ally students who come from backgrounds historically facing limited opportunities. This scholarship provides essential financial assistance and access to leadership development, empowering recipients to achieve their educational goals. Eligible candidates include those enrolled in accredited U.S. postsecondary institutions, ensuring they can utilize funds effectively during their academic journey. By fostering inclusivity, the Point Foundation aims to cultivate future leaders in various fields.

The JSF Scholarships aim to empower economically disadvantaged students by providing financial assistance for their education. This initiative addresses barriers to education and employment, enabling students to achieve academic success and meaningful careers. The Foundation supports various scholarship programs, partnering with schools and universities, and focusing on areas such as financial need and mentorship. By fostering educational opportunities, the JSF Scholarships contribute significantly to community development and individual empowerment.

The Canine Healthcare Fund Grant provides vital medical coverage for SDF-trained canines throughout their lives, ensuring they receive top-notch veterinary care at no expense to their handlers or agencies. Additionally, it extends support to non-SDF-trained handlers of active and retired disaster search canines, covering veterinary costs for wellness, illness, and injury not funded by their organizations. Each handler may receive up to $1,000 annually to help manage these essential healthcare expenses.

The Hew-Shinn Scholarship Fund honors A.K. Hew's parents and emphasizes education's importance. This scholarship is available to Maui County residents enrolled in accredited vocational programs, with a minimum GPA of 2.0 required. Preference is given to previous recipients who continue to meet eligibility criteria. Applicants must demonstrate financial need and submit a letter of recommendation. The application deadline aligns with the pre-proposal deadline, ensuring timely consideration for interested students.

The Petco Love Canine Cancer Fund Grant supports active and retired working canines diagnosed with cancer. Established in 2012 through a partnership with Petco Love, Blue Buffalo, and the Search Dog Foundation, this grant alleviates financial burdens for handlers, ensuring their canine partners receive necessary treatments. Funding is allocated on a case-by-case basis, allowing many working dog teams facing cancer to benefit each year. This initiative emphasizes the importance of preserving the quality of life for these heroic animals.

The Production Costs Grants from the City of San Antonio are designed to support performing arts organizations and professional artists by covering essential expenses such as artist fees, labor, marketing, security, and equipment rentals. This initiative aims to enhance the accessibility, quality, and innovation of performing arts programming in the area, ensuring that local nonprofits have the necessary resources to produce engaging performances.

The Production Costs Grants for Performing Artists, offered by the City of San Antonio, aim to support local performing arts organizations and professional artists. This funding can be utilized for artist fees, back-of-house labor, marketing for upcoming productions, security, and rental costs. The goal is to promote accessible, high-quality, and innovative performing arts programming in the San Antonio area.

James Z. Naurison Scholarship Fund, Bank of America, Trustee

W.R. "Bill" Asplund Scholarship

W.R. “Bill” Asplund (1932-2022) was a well-loved teacher in the Science Department at Wenatchee High School (WHS) from 1963 through 1987. He was a mentor to many students, instilling an appreciation for chemistry, scientific curiosity, and the natural world. He also introduced many to the outdoors as an advisor to the WHS Alpine Club, and later as an outdoor sports retailer in Wenatchee.

His childhood was harsh; he was homeless for a time. This gave him a life-long appreciation for those who helped him become a teacher and an advocate for wilderness conservation.
