George V. Dodd scholarship Fund
George Dodd enjoyed life and his family. He was active in their lives. He displayed patience, persistence, professionalism, fairness, kindness, and collaboration at home and work. George served in the Navy during World War II as a radar instructor. After the war, he graduated from the School of Mechanical Engineering at Northwestern University. He worked 37 years at Kellogg's as a Project Engineer. He traveled to Kellogg plants in multiple continents. He participated in local and national engineering clubs and found the energy to lead groups ranging from the Boy Scouts to the PTA. His children attended Battle Creek Public Schools, received an excellent education, and participated in extracurricular activities, sports, and Clear Lake Camp activities. Robert A. and Cynthia A. Leach Adult Education Scholarship Fund
The Robert A. and Cynthia A. Leach Adult Education Scholarship Fund ("Fund") provides scholarships to Athens Area Schools graduates or Athens area residents, pursuing post-secondary educational opportunities in high demand career fields, such as health related fields. This Scholarship was established by Robert A. and Cynthia A. Leach who were both former high school teachers. They believed that post high school education is a necessity in today’s economy and that a scholarship would provide some incentive for students to reach their goals. After seeing more support for graduating seniors, the Leach’s wanted there to be more resources for the adults in the greater Athens area. These funds could support anyone who are beyond their first year of college but still need financial assistance, those who did not complete their degree but want to re-enroll to do so, or even those who want to change career paths and need additional education or training.
U.S. Civil Society Microgrants
We seek to support projects that engage Pulitzer Center journalism to amplify the voices of affected communities, foster public debate, and drive meaningful audience engagement with our focus areas.
Audience engagement has been at the core of the Pulitzer Center’s work since its founding in 2006. In addition to grants and fellowships that facilitate breakthrough journalism, we support initiatives that connect the reporting to the audiences that need it the most. Our goal is pursuing real-world impact: engaging and mobilizing communities, increasing understanding and connection, and influencing decisions locally and globally.
This microgrant aims to support civil society organizations and groups in the United States to utilize Pulitzer Center-supported reporting as part of projects that contribute to a more informed and empowered community.
For this grant cycle, we are seeking grant proposals for civic engagement projects to be completed by early December 2026 that focus on one of the following issues:
The objective is to use Pulitzer Center-supported journalism as the inspiration for the projects supported by this civil society microgrant. By leveraging this reporting, we expect to build projects that amplify the voices of affected communities, foster public debate, and drive meaningful audience engagement that will lead to impactful conversations in communities in the U.S. and beyond.
Grants range from US$2,000 to US$4,000. Project proposals can support existing activities or support the launch of new activities.
