Oak Foundation

Overview
We have a responsibility to take care of our planet for future generations. We have a lot of work to do: we face a climate emergency, our natural life support systems are collapsing, and inequality is tearing at our social fabric. We have just ten years to reduce climate pollution by half and arrest the damage caused by using fossil fuels indiscriminately, bulldozing our forests, pouring plastics into our oceans, and trading endangered species into extinction.
There is still time to act. The actions we take today can revive the planet’s health for the future. Philanthropy, civil society, business, and political leaders are starting to come together to define a shared vision to repair the damage we have done to our home. We can build from the bottom up to ensure that our solutions are inclusive, fair, and lasting. And, we can ignite hope and catalyse change that restores our connection to nature and heals our planet’s health.
In response to the lessons learned from the recent evaluations of our successes and failures, from the wisdom of our partners, and from the teachings of the Covid-19 pandemic, our five-year strategy (2021-2026) focuses on safeguarding our future by restoring our connection to nature, and changing the ways we feed and fuel our world.
Our three systems
The new strategy has evolved from a sectoral approach, which focused on climate, marine, and wildlife trade and conservation, to a global systems transformation approach. We have chosen to focus on three systems that present the greatest transformative opportunities: Energy, Food, and Natural Security. Each of these systems is vital to our future as a human species and the global commons upon which we all depend. You can find out more about each system below.
Our pace in reducing dependence on fossil fuels has been unacceptably slow but the trend toward clean power is accelerating in exciting ways.
Recognising the need to cut fossil fuel use in half by 2030 and to zero by 2050, we will support organisations and diverse movements working to accelerate this transition. In doing so, we will engage at the intersection of race, equity, gender rights, and climate justice. We will also support widespread efforts to change the cultural narrative about the acceptability of fossil fuels.
In the energy system, our work will focus on six areas: oil, gas, plastics and petrochemicals, clean power, transport, and sustainable cities. We will fund efforts to catalyse the deployment of clean energy technologies, supporting the transition away from coal, oil, and gas. We will continue to support our partners’ work in Europe, India, China, Southeast Asia, and Brazil. We will complement our funding efforts with dedicated campaigns to end offshore oil and gas exploration and rapidly reduce pollution from aviation to systematically reduce our dependency on fossil fuels. And, we will enable efforts to eliminate the mountains of unnecessary single-use plastic products and reduce demand for, and oversupply of, virgin plastic.
Under our new strategy we will support efforts to ensure that food is harvested, processed, distributed, eaten, and disposed of in a way that promotes health, biodiversity, human rights, and animal welfare, all while staying within the boundaries of our planet’s life support systems.
Our strategy involves engaging in four areas to bring about a just, equitable, and sustainable food system: we must rebalance meat consumption, transform the wild food supply chain, and promote a real blue economy in which seafood is allowed to recover and be harvested sustainably, ensuring the food security of coastal and Indigenous communities. We will work toward increasing fisheries transparency and reducing labour rights abuses, particularly in the nations with the biggest fishing fleets and the murkiest practices.
Wild places, such as savannas and forests, are a form of natural security for both the wildlife and human beings that call them home. Wild places drive the Earth’s systems of regeneration. They keep life safer from pandemics and allow for the process of adaptation and evolution of life on Earth to continue. Our work and grant-making will focus on the connectivity between people and their wild places.
We will support the rich biodiversity of “living landscapes” in Southern Africa and Southeast Asia. Living landscapes is the term we use to describe a conservation approach that supports productive, resilient rural networks of people who are able to deter over-exploitation, while safeguarding wildlife and wild places. Our work in living landscapes also considers nature’s borders, such as river basins, and supports symbiotic relationships whereby community development, employment, and livelihoods can be provided while biodiversity can also thrive.

Funding
The average award: they range between USD 25,000 to USD 10 million.
We believe in providing long-term support to our partners to help create long-lasting change. We also believe that our partners benefit from having diverse funding sources to promote resiliency and to achieve the impact they desire. Therefore, we generally fund no more than 50 per cent of any project budget or 20 per cent of organisational budgets. Requests to fund higher levels should be discussed with the programme officer.
The Conservation, Food & Health Foundation
Conservation, Food & Health Foundation Grant Program
The Conservation, Food and Health Foundation seeks to protect the environment, improve food production, and promote public health in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Latin America, and the Middle East.
Types of Support
The Foundation supports projects and applied research that:
The Foundation funds applied research, pilot projects, new initiatives, training, and technical assistance, rather than ongoing support for programs that are already well underway. An important goal for the Foundation is to provide seed money to help promising projects, organizations, and individuals develop the track record they need to attract major foundation funding in the future.

In all of its areas of interest, the Foundation gives priority to projects that have the potential to advance the field, build local capacity, promote replication, influence public opinion and policy, affect systems change, and benefit people beyond the immediate project and its local context.
Funding
There is no minimum or maximum grant size. It is anticipated that most grants will fall in the $25,000-$50,000 per year range.
Grants are made for a one- or two-year period. Second-year funding is conditional on the provision of a satisfactory progress report, interim financial report, and work plan. Renewal requests for projects that were not originally approved as a multi-year project may be considered, but require a new application.
Grant awards are made twice a year, once in the spring and once in the fall, with applications due several months prior. The Foundation will consider only one proposal from an organization in any calendar year.
FAWCO Foundation
The FAWCO Foundation Development Grant
The purpose of the program is to fund projects that can make an immediate impact and lead to success for the people they support. The assistance offered should be direct, with a goal of sustainability.
Through The Foundation, FAWCO Member Clubs and FAUSA have been aiding worthy and reputable charitable projects around the globe for over 50 years. Some clubs are working “hands-on” with their projects while others make financial contributions or donations of goods. The Development Grants provide the financial assistance that can help the recipients achieve their goals.
The Foundation encourages FAWCO clubs to nominate grassroots organizations that receive little to no sponsorship or support from other sources.

The International Foundation
The International Foundation fund US-based non-profit organizations who partner with poor communities in the developing world to improve their health, education and incomes, while strengthening local capacity to sustain their benefits. Our strategy seeks change in the intermediate area between individuals and national organizations, where community members work together toward a shared vision.
The International Foundation funds grants in three key areas—health, education and incomes. However, each of these areas represents a range of investment opportunities that, if integrated with other program areas, can lead to broader, more balanced and more sustainable results.
The focus of our grant-making combines criteria on the nature of the program, the geographic location, and the level of poverty.

The Lawrence Foundation
The Lawrence Foundation is a private family foundation focused on making grants to support environmental, human services and other causes.
The Lawrence Foundation was established in mid-2000. We make both program and operating grants and do not have any geographical restrictions on our grants. Nonprofit organizations that qualify for public charity status under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code or other similar organizations are eligible for grants from The Lawrence Foundation.
Grant Amount and Types
Grants typically range between $5,000 - $10,000. In some limited cases we may make larger grants, but that is typically after we have gotten to know your organization over a period of time. We also generally don’t make multi-year grants, although we may fund the same organization on a year by year basis over a period of years.
General operating or program/project grant requests within our areas of interests are accepted. In general, regardless of whether a grant request is for general operating or program/project expenses, all of our grants will be issued as unrestricted grants.
Alzheimer's Association
Alzheimer’s Association Clinician Scientist Fellowship to Promote Diversity (AACSF-D)
The Alzheimer's Association recognizes the need to increase the number of underrepresented clinicians participating in clinical research. We anticipate that by providing this funding opportunity, the number of underrepresented physicians entering and remaining in clinical careers in Alzheimer's and all other dementia will increase.
The areas of research that a clinician scientist proposes for funding through the AACSF-D grant program are not limited to patient-oriented, human subject research, but may also include translational research specifically designed to develop treatments or enhance diagnosis of neurological disease. These translational areas of research include epidemiologic or behavioral studies, clinical trials, studies of disease mechanisms, the development of new technologies and health services and outcomes research. Disease-related basic science studies not directly involving humans or human tissue are also encouraged if the primary goal is the development of therapies, diagnostic tests, or other tools to prevent or mitigate neurological diseases.
Objective
The Alzheimer's Association recognizes the need to support the training of clinician scientists in Alzheimer's and related dementia. For the purpose of this program, a clinician scientist is defined as an individual already trained, licensed and practicing in a clinical field that includes patient contact (e.g., neurology, psychiatry, geriatrics, psychology) or patient-related diagnostic studies (e.g., neuropathology and radiology).
Applicants who are within 18 years of receiving their M.D., D.O. or Ph.D. (or equivalent) and have licensure for clinical practice, including postdoctoral fellows through Assistant Professors, are eligible. Positions higher than Assistant Professor will not be considered.

The AARF-D grant program is intended to support exceptional researchers who are engaged in their post-graduate work (i.e., postdoctoral fellows) and before they have their first independent faculty positions (i.e., Assistant Professor) and working in diverse areas of research, including basic, translational, clinical, functional and social-behavioral research. Investigators doing clinically-focused research without clinical practice are encouraged to apply.
The objective of this award is to increase the number of highly trained investigators from diverse backgrounds whose basic, clinical and social/behavioral research interests are grounded in the advanced methods and experimental approaches needed to solve problems related to Alzheimer's and all dementias in general and in health disparities populations. The Alzheimer's Association recognizes the need to increase the number of scientists from underrepresented groups participating in biomedical and behavioral research. We anticipate that by providing these research opportunities, the number of scientists from underrepresented groups entering and remaining in biomedical research careers in Alzheimer's and all other dementia will increase.
Objective

The FAWCO Foundation Development Grant
The purpose of the program is to fund projects that can make an immediate impact and lead to success for the people they support. The assistance offered should be direct, with a goal of sustainability.
Through The Foundation, FAWCO Member Clubs and FAUSA have been aiding worthy and reputable charitable projects around the globe for over 50 years. Some clubs are working “hands-on” with their projects while others make financial contributions or donations of goods. The Development Grants provide the financial assistance that can help the recipients achieve their goals.
The Foundation encourages FAWCO clubs to nominate grassroots organizations that receive little to no sponsorship or support from other sources.

The International Foundation
The International Foundation fund US-based non-profit organizations who partner with poor communities in the developing world to improve their health, education and incomes, while strengthening local capacity to sustain their benefits. Our strategy seeks change in the intermediate area between individuals and national organizations, where community members work together toward a shared vision.
The International Foundation funds grants in three key areas—health, education and incomes. However, each of these areas represents a range of investment opportunities that, if integrated with other program areas, can lead to broader, more balanced and more sustainable results.

The Lawrence Foundation
The Lawrence Foundation is a private family foundation focused on making grants to support environmental, human services and other causes.
The Lawrence Foundation was established in mid-2000. We make both program and operating grants and do not have any geographical restrictions on our grants. Nonprofit organizations that qualify for public charity status under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code or other similar organizations are eligible for grants from The Lawrence Foundation.
Grant Amount and Types
Grants typically range between $5,000 - $10,000. In some limited cases we may make larger grants, but that is typically after we have gotten to know your organization over a period of time. We also generally don’t make multi-year grants, although we may fund the same organization on a year by year basis over a period of years.
General operating or program/project grant requests within our areas of interests are accepted. In general, regardless of whether a grant request is for general operating or program/project expenses, all of our grants will be issued as unrestricted grants.

Alzheimer’s Association Clinician Scientist Fellowship to Promote Diversity (AACSF-D)
The Alzheimer's Association recognizes the need to increase the number of underrepresented clinicians participating in clinical research. We anticipate that by providing this funding opportunity, the number of underrepresented physicians entering and remaining in clinical careers in Alzheimer's and all other dementia will increase.
The areas of research that a clinician scientist proposes for funding through the AACSF-D grant program are not limited to patient-oriented, human subject research, but may also include translational research specifically designed to develop treatments or enhance diagnosis of neurological disease. These translational areas of research include epidemiologic or behavioral studies, clinical trials, studies of disease mechanisms, the development of new technologies and health services and outcomes research. Disease-related basic science studies not directly involving humans or human tissue are also encouraged if the primary goal is the development of therapies, diagnostic tests, or other tools to prevent or mitigate neurological diseases.
Objective
The Alzheimer's Association recognizes the need to support the training of clinician scientists in Alzheimer's and related dementia. For the purpose of this program, a clinician scientist is defined as an individual already trained, licensed and practicing in a clinical field that includes patient contact (e.g., neurology, psychiatry, geriatrics, psychology) or patient-related diagnostic studies (e.g., neuropathology and radiology).
Applicants who are within 18 years of receiving their M.D., D.O. or Ph.D. (or equivalent) and have licensure for clinical practice, including postdoctoral fellows through Assistant Professors, are eligible. Positions higher than Assistant Professor will not be considered.

Overview
We have a responsibility to take care of our planet for future generations. We have a lot of work to do: we face a climate emergency, our natural life support systems are collapsing, and inequality is tearing at our social fabric. We have just ten years to reduce climate pollution by half and arrest the damage caused by using fossil fuels indiscriminately, bulldozing our forests, pouring plastics into our oceans, and trading endangered species into extinction.
There is still time to act. The actions we take today can revive the planet’s health for the future. Philanthropy, civil society, business, and political leaders are starting to come together to define a shared vision to repair the damage we have done to our home. We can build from the bottom up to ensure that our solutions are inclusive, fair, and lasting. And, we can ignite hope and catalyse change that restores our connection to nature and heals our planet’s health.
In response to the lessons learned from the recent evaluations of our successes and failures, from the wisdom of our partners, and from the teachings of the Covid-19 pandemic, our five-year strategy (2021-2026) focuses on safeguarding our future by restoring our connection to nature, and changing the ways we feed and fuel our world.
Our three systems
The new strategy has evolved from a sectoral approach, which focused on climate, marine, and wildlife trade and conservation, to a global systems transformation approach. We have chosen to focus on three systems that present the greatest transformative opportunities: Energy, Food, and Natural Security. Each of these systems is vital to our future as a human species and the global commons upon which we all depend. You can find out more about each system below.
Our pace in reducing dependence on fossil fuels has been unacceptably slow but the trend toward clean power is accelerating in exciting ways.
Recognising the need to cut fossil fuel use in half by 2030 and to zero by 2050, we will support organisations and diverse movements working to accelerate this transition. In doing so, we will engage at the intersection of race, equity, gender rights, and climate justice. We will also support widespread efforts to change the cultural narrative about the acceptability of fossil fuels.
In the energy system, our work will focus on six areas: oil, gas, plastics and petrochemicals, clean power, transport, and sustainable cities. We will fund efforts to catalyse the deployment of clean energy technologies, supporting the transition away from coal, oil, and gas. We will continue to support our partners’ work in Europe, India, China, Southeast Asia, and Brazil. We will complement our funding efforts with dedicated campaigns to end offshore oil and gas exploration and rapidly reduce pollution from aviation to systematically reduce our dependency on fossil fuels. And, we will enable efforts to eliminate the mountains of unnecessary single-use plastic products and reduce demand for, and oversupply of, virgin plastic.
Under our new strategy we will support efforts to ensure that food is harvested, processed, distributed, eaten, and disposed of in a way that promotes health, biodiversity, human rights, and animal welfare, all while staying within the boundaries of our planet’s life support systems.
Our strategy involves engaging in four areas to bring about a just, equitable, and sustainable food system: we must rebalance meat consumption, transform the wild food supply chain, and promote a real blue economy in which seafood is allowed to recover and be harvested sustainably, ensuring the food security of coastal and Indigenous communities. We will work toward increasing fisheries transparency and reducing labour rights abuses, particularly in the nations with the biggest fishing fleets and the murkiest practices.
Wild places, such as savannas and forests, are a form of natural security for both the wildlife and human beings that call them home. Wild places drive the Earth’s systems of regeneration. They keep life safer from pandemics and allow for the process of adaptation and evolution of life on Earth to continue. Our work and grant-making will focus on the connectivity between people and their wild places.
We will support the rich biodiversity of “living landscapes” in Southern Africa and Southeast Asia. Living landscapes is the term we use to describe a conservation approach that supports productive, resilient rural networks of people who are able to deter over-exploitation, while safeguarding wildlife and wild places. Our work in living landscapes also considers nature’s borders, such as river basins, and supports symbiotic relationships whereby community development, employment, and livelihoods can be provided while biodiversity can also thrive.

The Lawrence Foundation is a private family foundation focused on making grants to support environmental, human services and other causes.
The Lawrence Foundation was established in mid-2000. We make both program and operating grants and do not have any geographical restrictions on our grants. Nonprofit organizations that qualify for public charity status under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code or other similar organizations are eligible for grants from The Lawrence Foundation.
Grant Amount and Types
Grants typically range between $5,000 - $10,000. In some limited cases we may make larger grants, but that is typically after we have gotten to know your organization over a period of time. We also generally don’t make multi-year grants, although we may fund the same organization on a year by year basis over a period of years.
General operating or program/project grant requests within our areas of interests are accepted. In general, regardless of whether a grant request is for general operating or program/project expenses, all of our grants will be issued as unrestricted grants.

Alzheimer’s Association Clinician Scientist Fellowship to Promote Diversity (AACSF-D)
The Alzheimer's Association recognizes the need to increase the number of underrepresented clinicians participating in clinical research. We anticipate that by providing this funding opportunity, the number of underrepresented physicians entering and remaining in clinical careers in Alzheimer's and all other dementia will increase.
The areas of research that a clinician scientist proposes for funding through the AACSF-D grant program are not limited to patient-oriented, human subject research, but may also include translational research specifically designed to develop treatments or enhance diagnosis of neurological disease. These translational areas of research include epidemiologic or behavioral studies, clinical trials, studies of disease mechanisms, the development of new technologies and health services and outcomes research. Disease-related basic science studies not directly involving humans or human tissue are also encouraged if the primary goal is the development of therapies, diagnostic tests, or other tools to prevent or mitigate neurological diseases.
Objective
The Alzheimer's Association recognizes the need to support the training of clinician scientists in Alzheimer's and related dementia. For the purpose of this program, a clinician scientist is defined as an individual already trained, licensed and practicing in a clinical field that includes patient contact (e.g., neurology, psychiatry, geriatrics, psychology) or patient-related diagnostic studies (e.g., neuropathology and radiology).
Applicants who are within 18 years of receiving their M.D., D.O. or Ph.D. (or equivalent) and have licensure for clinical practice, including postdoctoral fellows through Assistant Professors, are eligible. Positions higher than Assistant Professor will not be considered.

Alzheimer's Association Research Fellowship to Promote Diversity (AARF-D)
The AARF-D grant program is intended to support exceptional researchers who are engaged in their post-graduate work (i.e., postdoctoral fellows) and before they have their first independent faculty positions (i.e., Assistant Professor) and working in diverse areas of research, including basic, translational, clinical, functional and social-behavioral research. Investigators doing clinically-focused research without clinical practice are encouraged to apply.
The objective of this award is to increase the number of highly trained investigators from diverse backgrounds whose basic, clinical and social/behavioral research interests are grounded in the advanced methods and experimental approaches needed to solve problems related to Alzheimer's and all dementias in general and in health disparities populations. The Alzheimer's Association recognizes the need to increase the number of scientists from underrepresented groups participating in biomedical and behavioral research. We anticipate that by providing these research opportunities, the number of scientists from underrepresented groups entering and remaining in biomedical research careers in Alzheimer's and all other dementia will increase.
Objective
The Alzheimer's Association Research Fellowship to Promote Diversity (AARF-D) award is intended to support exceptional scientists from underrepresented groups who are working in Alzheimer's or all other dementias research and who are engaged in their post-graduate work (i.e., postdoctoral fellows) and before their first independent faculty positions (i.e., Assistant Professor) and working in diverse areas of research, including basic, translational, clinical, functional and social-behavioral research. Individuals applying to the program will be accepted from postdoctoral fellows with full time positions at their respective institution who have less than 13 years of research experience after receipt of their doctorate or other terminal degree. Individuals who have a position of an Assistant Professorship or above are not eligible.

Alzheimer's Association Research Grant to Promote Diversity (AARG-D)
The AARG-D grant program aims to fund early-career investigators who are less than 18 years past their doctoral degree or post-residency (M.D. or D.O.) with funding that will allow them to develop preliminary or pilot data, to test procedures and to develop hypotheses. The intent is to support early-career development that will lay the groundwork for future research grant applications to federal or other funding entities.
The objective of this award is to increase the number of highly trained investigators from diverse backgrounds whose basic, clinical and social/behavioral research interests are grounded in the advanced methods and experimental approaches needed to solve problems related to Alzheimer's and all other dementias in general and in health disparities populations. The Alzheimer's Association recognizes the need to increase the number of scientists from underrepresented groups participating in biomedical and behavioral research. We anticipate that by providing these research opportunities, the number of scientists from underrepresented groups entering and remaining in biomedical research careers in Alzheimer's and all other dementia will increase.
Objective
The Alzheimer's Association Research Grant to Promote Diversity (AARG-D) award is up to three years (minimum two years) to increase the number of scientists from underrepresented groups at academic institutions in Alzheimer’s or all other dementia research.
The objective of this award is to increase the number of highly trained investigators from diverse backgrounds whose basic, clinical and social/behavioral research interests are grounded in the advanced methods and experimental approaches needed to solve problems related to Alzheimer's and all other dementias in general and in health disparities populations. The Alzheimer's Association recognizes the need to increase the number of scientists from underrepresented groups participating in biomedical and behavioral research. The Association anticipates that by providing these research opportunities, the number of scientists from underrepresented groups entering and remaining in biomedical research careers in Alzheimer's and all other dementia will increase.
The purpose of this program is to provide new scientists from underrepresented groups with funding that will allow them to develop preliminary or pilot data, to test procedures and to develop hypotheses. The mechanism of this award is the individual research grant. The Alzheimer's Association recognizes the need to increase the number of scientists from underrepresented groups in the research enterprise for Alzheimer's and all other dementia. Young scientists from these groups are encouraged to apply.
Funding
Each AARG-D award total is limited to $200,000 (direct and indirect costs) for up to three years (Award should be a minimum 2 years. For a 2 year award the total is limited to $140,000 with direct and indirect costs). Requests may not exceed $70,000 in any given year (direct and indirect costs). Indirect costs are capped at 10 percent of total direct costs and are inclusive of indirect costs for the implementing institution as well as to any subcontracts.
