Introduction

The mission of the Governor’s Commission on Disability (GCD) is to improve “the quality of life of all New Mexicans with disabilities by addressing social integration, economic self-sufficiency, political resolve, physical and program accessibility, and full participation in the benefits of life and rights of all individuals."

Quality of Life Grant Program

As part of its mission, GCD continues the Quality of Life Grant Program (QOL). QOL provides small grants to New Mexico non-profits and other tax-exempt organizations to improve or enhance programs and services that increase the quality of life of all New Mexicans with disabilities.

Applications may be submitted to address one of five categories: Adaptive Movement; Programmatic Access; Emergency Preparedness Outreach and Education; Social Integration; Technology Training and Accessibility.

The goal of the QOL Grant Program is to allow an organization to provide more (quantity) or enhanced (quality) services in one or more of the listed categories. QOL grants are not awarded for routine operating costs (salaries not related to enhanced or increased services, for instance), or costs associated with starting a new program or delivering a new service. 

The Fred & Jean Allegretti Foundation Grant offers financial assistance to charitable organizations focused on improving the quality of life for children, adults, the elderly, and animals. Eligible organizations include 501(c)(3) entities that comply with reporting laws and operate in Colorado, Florida, or New Mexico. The foundation seeks proposals that reflect its humanitarian mission, prioritizing dignity and support through education, medical treatment, and the arts.

Competitive Community Grant- Education ( Fall cycle)

Result: All children and youth succeed in education prepared for a career.

We will support requests from organizations that work to improve:

• School readiness
• Reading and/or math proficiency
• College and career path accessibility
• Opportunity youth* engagement (*youth ages 12-24 struggling with school, not in school, and/or not working)
• Education ecosystem through policy advocacy

Through direct service, policy advocacy and/or collaboration efforts, priority strategies will address:

• Integrated student and family supports for at risk/vulnerable populations with strong place-based solutions supported by network of caring and appropriately trained adult and peer relationship
• Access to quality, affordable early childhood education and out-of-school (after school and summer) opportunities
• Targeted interventions to close the academic achievement gaps across key milestones from birth to career
• Work-based learning and career technical education through real life and personally relevant education including career exploration and alternative pathway opportunities
• Educator/provider/family training & support so they can be strong advocates and supporters for children/students’ success – especially in high need areas

Grant Size

We offer $5,000, $10,000, $15,000, or $20,000 general operating support depending on your annual budget:

• Organizations with an annual budget up to $50,000 may apply for a $5,000 grant;
• Organizations with an annual budget between $50,001 - $150,000 may apply for a $10,000 grant;
• Organizations with an annual budget between $150,001 - $500,000 may apply for a $15,000 grant; and
• Organizations with an annual budget of $500,001 or more may apply for a $20,000 grant.

The New Mexico Community Foundation established the Sustaining New Mexico Fund in 2022 to enhance the sustainability of nonprofits across the state. This initiative aims to strengthen communities by promoting social equity and self-sufficiency. Grants will be awarded to organizations working in areas such as community resilience, educational opportunities, and environmental adaptability, ensuring that the quality of life for all New Mexicans continues to improve.

The New Mexico Outdoor Recreation Trails+ Grant supports local projects that enhance community well-being and boost local economies through improved outdoor infrastructure. This funding opportunity ranges from $25,000 to $99,999 and encourages projects that promote equitable access to recreation. It requires a match of 1:1 for urban projects and 2:1 for rural or Tribal communities, aiming to connect people with nature while fostering stewardship of New Mexico's landscapes.

The New Mexico Outdoor Recreation Trails+ Grant supports regional projects aimed at enhancing outdoor recreation and community well-being. With funding ranging from $100,000 to $499,999, it encourages projects that promote equitable access to nature and demonstrate economic benefits for the region. Applicants must show a commitment to public access and stewardship of natural landscapes. The Devasthali Family Foundation Fund, established in 2011 by Drs. Ammu and Rama Devasthali, supports arts, education, and child hunger initiatives in Southern New Mexico. This fund encourages nonprofit organizations across twelve counties to apply for funding, fostering positive community impact. The Chevron Catalyst Grants, established by Chevron Products Company and the Carlsbad Community Foundation, aim to enhance community life in Carlsbad and South Eddy County, New Mexico. Grants support diverse needs, including health, arts, and education, with awards typically ranging from $500 to $5,000. Eligible organizations include 501c(3) charities in the area, while event sponsorships and political activities are excluded. The Northeastern Regional Health Fund, part of the New Mexico Community Foundation, aims to enhance health and well-being in San Miguel, Mora, Guadalupe, Colfax, Harding, Union, and Quay counties. New Mexico Community Foundation

For over 40 years, New Mexico Foundation (NMF) has worked to improve the quality of life for all residents of New Mexico. The only statewide foundation, NMF was started in 1983 by a small group of dedicated and visionary volunteers who believed in the power of Philanthropy as a tool for inspiring creative, community-based change and prosperity.

NMF has distinguished itself as a leader in philanthropy. Our progressive, grassroots approach to building stronger communities empowers community members to collaborate on critical issues by tapping into local resources and discovering the strength in themselves.

In 2019 we changed our name to better define our purpose and identity as the only community foundation serving the state of New Mexico.

Native American Preparatory Scholars Fund

The Native American Preparatory Scholars (NAPS) Fund was established in 2012 from the remaining assets of the former Native American Preparatory School located in Rowe, NM. The purpose of the fund is to support programs that increase the number of New Mexico Native American students who shall aspire to, be prepared for, and graduate from colleges and universities.

To accomplish this mission, New Mexico Community Foundation is pleased to announce a funding opportunity through our NAPS Fund.
