Roberto C. Goizueta, chair and CEO of The Coca-Cola Company from 1981 to 1997, founded The Goizueta Foundation in 1992. The Foundation’s six shared values were inspired by Mr. Goizueta and were attributes often used to describe him. It is only fitting to tell his story through the lens of those values.

Types of Funding

The Goizueta Foundation supports efforts within metropolitan Atlanta that are most aligned with our focus and shared values as well as our strategic priorities. We seek to build relationships with organizations and understand their impact before investing in them over the long term.

The Majestic Realty Foundation

As developers, Majestic Realty Co. builds business parks that serve communities across 13 states. Indeed, this perspective gives our employees unique insight into grassroots community needs. The Majestic Realty Foundation grew out of our realization that community needs were growing rapidly. We saw that great numbers of youth and families were at risk from increasing gang-related violence. We saw that homelessness and hunger impacted more families than ever; plus high school drop-out rates reach epidemic proportions. But we also saw that together, we could make a difference.

In 2002, our company’s longstanding tradition of corporate giving was formalized with the launch of the Majestic Realty Foundation – now the cornerstone of our community investment program. As builders first, we know the value of creating communities of promise, where families and businesses know that their futures are secure and bright. To this end, we have devoted time and resources to build collaborations and provide professional training to help local nonprofits increase their capacities.

Majestic Realty Foundation Fast Facts

• Established in 2002 to move Majestic Realty from passive to active philanthropy
• Our flagship program, the Los Angeles Youth Leadership Council, brings together students from inner city youth centers for leadership training activities

Building a Brighter Future, One Student at a Time

In Southern California, the Majestic Realty Foundation’s commitment to active philanthropy is clearly demonstrated through its flagship program, the Los Angeles Youth Leadership Council (LAYLC). As a leadership and teambuilding collaborative, LAYLC brings together 80 high school student leaders from 43 separate LA schools. Each attends one of six inner-city youth centers: the Bresee Foundation, El Centro del Pueblo, Heart of Los Angeles (HOLA), Para Los Niños, Salesian Boys & Girls Club and The Salvation Army Red Shield Center. Through monthly meetings and enrichment activities, the LAYLC empowers students from Los Angeles’ most challenged neighborhoods to develop and apply leadership skills through participation in an annual camp, college tours and forums with high-profile guest speakers. Additionally, students receive training in public speaking, economic literacy and civic affairs.

The Majestic Realty Foundation believes that youth centers have the power to curb youth violence, develop strong leaders and create safe communities.

Driven by a Shared Passion

As a vital part of our corporate culture, the employees of Majestic Realty Co., Majestic Management Co. and Commerce Construction Co., L.P., volunteer thousands of hours for community organizations. Whether taking part in charity walkathons, collecting shoes and sponsoring community-wide days of service, Majestic/Commerce employees have ongoing opportunities to serve those in need, and they never fail to turn out in great numbers. We realize that our team members are our greatest asset. Through the Foundation’s innovative “Get on Board” campaign, Majestic employees freely give their time and talents by serving in leadership positions on nonprofit boards. Reducing the Burden of Cancer

The American Cancer Society states that one in two men and one in three women will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. These cancer diagnoses often create both a health and financial crisis for patients and their families. Studies show factors including race/ethnicity, health insurance status and income can affect the timing of a patient’s diagnosis and treatment, as well as their survival and financial impact. Working with our partners, we aim to reduce the risk of getting cancer and address socioeconomic barriers to care.

Preparing Tomorrow's Healthcare Workforce

• Patients report that they feel more heard and are more compliant with medical guidance when they share race/ethnicity with their healthcare practitioner. Nearly a third of the U.S. population is Black or Hispanic, yet the combined Black and Hispanic representation among oncologists is 8 percent and the combined Black, Indigenous and Hispanic representation among pharmacists is 10.7 percent. Closing the gap between diverse representation among the general population and among healthcare practitioners will improve health equity and patient outcomes.

Accelerating Crisis Response

With the increased frequency and intensity of climate events, more people across North America need temporary or extended shelter, as well as food and medications, during and in the aftermath of crises. And with 10 percent of the population in both Canada and the U.S. living in food insecure households, programs to provide regular, nutritious meals to children, families and seniors can reduce chronic disease and improve long-term health.

We work with partners to provide the right nutrition to those who need it the most. Incorporating healthy foods into diets can help reduce the risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes and certain types of cancer. In addition, a healthy diet can improve mental health, boost energy levels and promote healthy aging.

To solve many of the most pressing challenges facing the world, like climate change and population health, we need diverse perspectives in science and technology. By investing in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education, we can prepare the next generation of innovators and problem-solvers to drive progress and shape the future. We support programs in the areas of K-8 math, high school STEM enrichment and college success.

Building a strong foundation in STEM subjects is critical for students who aspire to pursue careers in science. STEM education provides students with the necessary skills and knowledge to solve complex problems, think critically, and innovate. By developing a strong understanding of STEM fundamentals, students can pursue careers of tremendous impact.

STEM education can also help students develop important life skills such as teamwork, communication, and adaptability, which are essential for success in any career. By investing in STEM education, we can prepare the next generation of innovators and problem-solvers who will drive progress and shape the future. We focus on supporting programs in the areas of K-8 math, high school STEM enrichment and college success.

Mission

The mission of the Harland Charitable Foundation is to support effective, well-led organizations that enhance opportunities for low-income children and youth, respond to critical community needs and foster a vibrant arts culture. The majority of our grantmaking focuses on City of Atlanta and DeKalb County (Georgia) where the Foundation’s history lies.

Tull Charitable Foundation Grant

The Foundation's Trustees limit grant awards to charitable organizations based in the State of Georgia. 

The Foundation's Trustees prefer to make grants that will have a significant and lasting impact on an organization as well as its community. Priority is given to grant requests that:

• Are framed within the context of the organization's strategic plan and that result in enhanced organizational capacity;
• Enable the organization to expand its impact on important community needs; and
• Are cost-effective.

Although multi-year grant commitments are occasionally approved by the Trustees, they are kept to a minimum. Most grant awards are based upon the Foundation's ability to fund them out of current year earnings.

Funding Priorities

The Foundation focuses its grant making on initiatives and projects that build nonprofits’ capacity to do their work more effectively and efficiently.

We prioritize funding organizations that are intentional about:

• Working in under-resourced communities;
• Providing services/support to historically marginalized populations
• Advocating for under-served populations;
• Promoting racial equity;
• Building community assets that strengthen civic infrastructure.

Types of Funding Support Typically Eligible for Consideration:

• Strategic initiatives that build the capacity of your staff, including administration and direct service staff.
• Capital infrastructure projects critical to achieving your organization’s strategic goals.
• Organizational partnerships and mergers designed to strengthen community impact.
• Requests for early-stage investment in new and emerging program models are sometimes considered if you can demonstrate your project’s impact and a viable plan for financial sustainability.

About the Foundation

The Lettie Pate Evans Foundation is an independent private foundation that invests primarily in education and arts and culture. Most grants are made to institutions in Georgia. Occasional grants are made to institutions in Virginia that were supported by Mrs. Evans during her life.

The Joseph B. Whitehead Foundation believes that quality early childhood education helps lay the foundation for children’s future success. It primarily invests in early learning through Smart Start at the United Way of Greater Atlanta, which works to improve the quality of care and education for all children ages birth through five.

The Foundation’s investments in early childhood education make up a significant part of our average grants portfolio (see graph). The Foundation provides annual support to Smart Start and occasionally considers grants to other organizations working to improve early childhood education in metro Atlanta.

K-12 Education

The Joseph B. Whitehead Foundation seeks to improve K-12 education at the state level and within Atlanta Public Schools. The Foundation believes that education is key to creating opportunity and ending generational poverty for children in our community.

The Foundation’s investments in K-12 education make up a significant part of our average grants portfolio (see graph). The Foundation supports organizations working to positively impact the academic success of students and to close the achievement gap.

Children & Youth

The Joseph B. Whitehead Foundation maintains a special focus on helping children and youth in need in Metro Atlanta. The Foundation works to strengthen child welfare in Georgia and to support the development of Atlanta’s youth into healthy, responsible and productive citizens.

The Foundation’s investments in children and youth make up a significant part of our average grants portfolio (see graph). We work with the State of Georgia to address challenges in child welfare, and we support the capital and capacity-building needs of youth development organizations in metro Atlanta.

Human Services 

The Joseph B. Whitehead Foundation supports well-established human services organizations that work to improve the quality of life for people in need in Metro Atlanta. The Foundation seeks to fund proven solutions to meet the needs of the region’s most vulnerable populations.

The Foundation’s investments in human services make up a significant part of our average grants portfolio (see graph). We support the capital and capacity-building needs of well-established, Atlanta-based human service organizations serving homeless and low-income individuals.

Health

The Joseph B. Whitehead Foundation seeks to strengthen the health safety net in Metro Atlanta. We place particular emphasis on improving health outcomes for children. The Foundation’s investments in health make up a significant part of our average grants portfolio (see graph). We typically make grants for capital projects or to build the capacity of Atlanta-based health organizations that effectively serve low-income families and underserved populations.

Cousins Foundation

Since 1963, the Cousins Foundations have had the privilege of supporting community partners that address the greatest needs of our day. We aim to build collaborative relationships in support of holistic solutions that address the root causes of social and economic disparities.

We invest in community leaders and changemakers.

The Cousins Foundations hold two grantmaking cycles each year, spring and fall. We provide grants for general operating support, programs, and capital projects to nonprofit organizations that work in Metro Atlanta and other communities important to the family.

Mission

Fostering a metro-Atlanta region where all families are healthy and thrive. Our mission is to support highly effective organizations that emphasize preventive, comprehensive health opportunities and enhance access to health services for women and children in Clayton, Cobb, Fulton, DeKalb and Gwinnett counties.

Funding PrioritiesResponsive GrantmakingThe Foundation considers funding requests that address programmatic or operating needs, organizational capacity building, and initiatives related to improving access to quality health care. The Foundation partners with organizations serving populations with limited financial resources in the five-county metropolitan Atlanta area (Fulton, DeKalb, Cobb, Gwinnett and Clayton.) Proposals should address the following outcomes related to women and children::

Organizations should be prepared to:

• produce measurable results with the funding being requested,
• define groups who will benefit from services proposed, and
• explain how the defined groups will benefit in quantifiable terms.

Collaboration

The Foundation may periodically engage in collaborative activities to share collective impact on a specific issue. At the Foundation’s discretion, it will seek to collaborate with other funding partners to strategically align resources with others who share the Foundation’s commitment to improving health and expanding access to healthcare in the community. From time to time, the Foundation may consider supporting projects that include focused advocacy efforts and/or other strategies that attempt to address systemic challenges as part or all of a collaborative effort.

History

The Merancas Foundation was founded by Anke and Casey Mermans in 1989. The couple was bothered to see people work hard yet not be able to afford a basic living. They knew they could help make a difference in the lives of those in need. Guided by the principle that philanthropy should be an investment in our communities, The Merancas Foundation has sought out partners that can deliver services to deserving individuals and families. While we understand that the frameworks of poverty and opportunity are complex, we are committed to continue investing in our communities as long as we have the resources to do so. Catholic Community Grants

Catholic Community Grants provide assistance to nonprofits, parishes, Catholic schools, and other ministries. They are funded from various endowments established for the purpose of grant-giving. Many of these endowments are designated by the donors for specific purposes. Grants vary in amount and are awarded each grant cycle. Nonprofits do not have to be Catholic as long as their mission is in alignment with Catholic teaching.

The Catholic Foundation of North Georgia awards competitive grants through the Catholic Community Grants and Parish Enrichment Grants programs. As a Catholic foundation, the priorities that guide the grant decisions focus on areas of importance to Catholic faith and teachings.

Jack and Anne Glenn Foundation

The Jack and Anne Glenn Foundation was established in 2004 by the four Glenn sons to honor their parents.

Mission Statement:

The mission of the Jack & Anne Glenn Charitable Foundation is to provide program and project grants to nonprofit organizations which provide support and guidance to disadvantaged youth and their families who are at risk of poor educational, social, and health outcomes in the communities where our family lives.

The family members currently reside in the following locations:

The Home Depot Foundation

The Home Depot Foundation works to improve the homes and lives of U.S. veterans, train skilled tradespeople to fill the labor gap and support communities impacted by natural disasters. Since 2011, the Foundation has invested more than $550 million in veteran causes and improved more than 65,000 veteran homes and facilities. The Foundation has pledged to invest $750M in veteran causes by 2030 and $50 million in training the next generation of skilled tradespeople through the Path to Pro program.

The Foundation's Veteran Housing Grants Program awards grants to nonprofit organizations for the new construction or rehabilitation of permanent supportive housing for veterans. Awards typically range from $100,000 to $500,000.

Trusteed Foundations

In their concern for community wellbeing, the benefactors who established these foundations directed that available proceeds should be judiciously distributed to non-profit, tax-exempt organizations with demonstrable records of superior service in the fields of Leadership Development, Economic Mobility, Thriving Communities and Education.

Truist Bank provides trustee services to private and family foundations, including the six foundations detailed on this website. As stewards to the Truist Trusteed Foundations, we are happy to provide information about their grant guidelines and the application process in the Atlanta area.

Each proposal submitted is automatically considered for funding by the English, Marshall, Rich, Woolford, Elkin, and Greene-Sawtell foundations. Only one application form is needed to apply to all six foundations.

Florence C. and Harry L. English Memorial Fund

Harry L. English was the son of Capt. James Warren English, Mayor of Atlanta from 1882-1884. Capt. English gained prominence in Atlanta through the real estate business. Harry and his wife Florence built a house on West Paces Ferry Road across from the Governor's Mansion. The house still stands today. Harry died in 1937, and in 1964, The Florence C. and Harry L. English Memorial Fund was established to honor Harry and Florence.

Harriet McDaniel Marshall Trust

Mrs. Harriett McDaniel Marshall created this Trust in 1962 to honor her father, Sanders McDaniel, a Monroe, GA native and an Atlanta attorney. Mr. McDaniel was the son of former Governor Henry D. McDaniel (1883-1888), under whose administration the State Capitol Building in Atlanta was completed. Harriett married Rembert Marshall, one of her father's law partners.

Walter H. and Marjory M. Rich Memorial Fund

Walter H. Rich was the second president of Rich's department store (1926-1947), succeeding his uncle, Morris Rich, who founded the company as M. Rich & Bros. in 1867. Morris Rich changed the name to Rich's when a new store was built on the corner of Broad and Alabama Streets in downtown Atlanta in 1924. Both Morris and Walter as well as Daniel Rich, Morris' brother and Walter's father, are buried in Atlanta's historic Oakland Cemetery. The Walter H. and Marjory M. Rich Memorial Fund was established in 1959.

This Memorial Fund was established to make gifts to institutions which are members of a community fund, nonprofit hospitals, or are an institution which places emphasis upon the education and training of individuals and scholarship funds.

Thomas Guy Woolford Charitable Trust

This Trust was created under the will of Thomas Guy Woolford, a member of the family who founded Retail Credit Company (1899) which ultimately became Equifax Inc. This Trust was established to make gifts to institutions that are organized and operated exclusively for charitable, religious, educational or scientific purposes. Because of the family's ties to the Atlanta area, the Distribution Committee will give priority to charitable, religious, educational or scientific organizations in the metropolitan Atlanta area.

Nell Warren Elkin and William Simpson Elkin Foundation

The Nell Warren Elkin and William Simpson Elkin Foundation was created as a memorial by Miss Margaret R. Warren, Miss Charlotte L. Warren and Mrs. Josephine Warren Asbury, sisters of Nell Warren Elkin. The following charitable institutions were suggested by the Foundation's founders as worthy and valuable organizations. However, the Foundation's trustee is not required to make grants to these organizations and will entertain proposals from other organizations.

Greene-Sawtell Foundation

The Greene-Sawtell Foundation was established by Mr. Forest Greene and Mrs. Alice Greene Sawtell, who served as the first Advisory Committee. Under the terms of the document which established the Foundation, the advisory committee was created to select the charitable organizations which the Foundation would support. Truist Bank, as Trustee, now determines which charitable, religious and educational organizations will receive support from the Foundation. The Trustee considers organizations which the Foundation has supported in the past, those in which Mrs. Sawtell had a personal interest, and those which are of a similar nature to the organizations in which Mrs. Sawtell had an interest.

Reducing the Burden of Cancer

The American Cancer Society estimates 1.9M people will receive a cancer diagnosis in 2022 and two in five Canadians will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. These cancer diagnoses often create both a health and financial crisis for patients and their families. Studies show factors including race/ethnicity, health insurance status and income can affect the timing of a patient’s diagnosis and treatment, as well as their survival and financial impact. Working with our partners, we aim to reduce the risk of getting cancer and address socioeconomic barriers to care.

  • provide education and services to encourage people to adopt healthy diets, exercise regularly, avoid tobacco, and protect their skin.
• Screening and Treatment
  • increase awareness of the importance of screenings, early detection and timely treatment among vulnerable populations; provide free health screenings for patients and connect them to care.

  • connect uninsured and underinsured patients to programs providing low or no-cost co-pays and social determinants of health (SDOH) interventions, e.g., transportation, childcare, healthy food, home meal delivery; reduce the economic burden of low-income patients with emergency funds for rent, utilities and other household expenses.

Preparing Tomorrow's Healthcare Workforce

Patients report that they feel more heard and are more compliant with medical guidance when they share race/ethnicity with their healthcare practitioner. Nearly a third of the U.S. population is Black or Hispanic, yet the combined Black and Hispanic representation among oncologists is 8 percent and the combined Black, Indigenous and Hispanic representation among pharmacists is 10.7 percent. Closing the gap between diverse representation among the general population and among healthcare practitioners will improve health equity and patient outcomes.

Accelerating Crisis Response

With the increased frequency and intensity of climate events, more people across North America need temporary or extended shelter, as well as food and medications, during and in the aftermath of crises. And with 10 percent of the population in both Canada and the U.S. living in food insecure households, programs to provide regular, nutritious meals to children, families and seniors can reduce chronic disease and improve long-term health.

Impact100 Atlanta

Impact100 Atlanta is a diverse group of women committed to improving our community by collectively funding transformational grants to make a high impact and sustainable difference in Metro Atlanta. Although Impact100 is new to the Atlanta community, Impact100 Atlanta joins more than 70 sister chapters worldwide embracing the local collective giving model of Impact100.

Impact100 Atlanta awards grants to nonprofits in our community that address the focus area stipulated in our Eligibility Criteria. Eligible nonprofits may apply for grant funding. We recommend reading our eligibility criteria before proceeding.

The Grant Committees ultimately select five finalists, one in each focus area, to compete for the available Impact Grants at our Annual Meeting.

Introduction

Bank of America, N.A. serves as trustee, co-trustee, or agent to numerous private foundations. The Atlanta, Georgia Private Bank, Philanthropic Solutions office manages many discretionary foundations which support nonprofit organizations serving vital community needs. The majority of these foundations were created and structured by donors to provide focused grantmaking based on specific program and/or geographic funding guidelines. 

Working with internal or external distribution committees, co-trustees, family members, or external advisors, we carefully evaluate grant proposals to ensure that meaningful grants are awarded in accordance with the philanthropic mission of each foundation. We have prepared these grantmaking guidelines as a general overview to help the nonprofit community better understand the grantmaking goals and process for Georgia-based foundations.

Mission

The Clark and Ruby Baker Foundation was established to address a number charitable concerns. The Baker family cared deeply about the Methodist Church and founded the Foundation to support Methodist affiliated, higher educational institutions in rural or small towns; charitable organizations that serve infirm, deserving, and aged ministers; economically disadvantaged and deserving children; or orphans and orphanages.

The Foundation also provides support to charitable organizations that extend financial aid to the sick and infirm receiving medical treatment in any hospital or clinic in the state of Georgia. Capital support for the construction of educational facilities at a college or university; clinics or hospitals; libraries; or any building with a charitable use may be considered.

Speedway Children's Charities

At Speedway Children’s Charities, we believe every child deserves the chance to thrive—no matter the obstacles they face. SCC is a driving force for change, partnering with local organizations to meet the most pressing needs of children in communities across the country. From supporting kids battling illness to providing resources for those facing adversity at home or in school, our mission is rooted in action and compassion. Since 1982, we’ve distributed over $72 million in grants—$4 million in 2024 alone—ensuring that children in need have the support, care, and opportunities to build brighter futures.

SCC Atlanta Grant Program

Speedway Children's Charities is dedicated to helping our next generation exceed expectations and ensuring every child has the same opportunities, no matter the obstacles they face. Our organization is dedicated to caring for children to help them lead productive lives. Through our various events and activities, we strive to raise funds and provide grants to nonprofit children's organizations in the state of Georgia. In 2024, SCC Atlanta distributed $100,000 to local organizations.

 Priority consideration will be given to organizations helping the:

• homeless,
• orphan and foster population, and
• victims of sex trafficking.

 Below are the pillars we focus on during the grant process:

• Critical: victims of sex trafficking, homeless, orphans, foster population, food security
• Medical: illness, dental, disability, therapy
• Educational: tutoring, literacy, after school programs

All applications will receive consideration, and all eligible organizations are encouraged to apply.

Grants

The Detwiler Family Foundation has defined a grant structure that reflects our commitment to our local communities. We award several grants a year to organizations that further our mission.

Project Grants (75%): The Detwiler Family Foundation accepts applications for Project Grants on a rolling basis. Funding applications should be for programming in one of the following categories:

• Community Resource Improvement

Matching Grants (25%); The foundation supports successful fundraising through our Matching Program. Organizations with ongoing fundraising efforts may apply for funds that are conditional on the success of other efforts.

What is Extra Wish?

Each year, the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta publishes the Extra Wish opportunity catalog to uplift the needs of nonprofit organizations in the metro Atlanta region. Since its inception over 20 years ago, Extra Wish has connected our donors to specific nonprofit funding requests that will enhance their daily or programmatic work.

Extra Wish funding is intended to support unique and tangible items beyond an organization’s operating budget, especially for small or mid-sized organizations. Extra Wish is a resource for those “hard to fund” things that make an impact for staff, volunteers or people the organization serves. Through this program, donors have given grants for everything from backpacks to snakes, and baby monitors to washing machines. Extra Wish is shared with all of the Community Foundation’s current and planned giving donors - more than 1,000 individuals and families – and is a showcase for nonprofits doing impactful work in our region.

Extra Wish provides monetary contributions for specific expenses (not staff or general operations) that contribute in a clear way to the success of organizations and the populations they serve. Inclusion in Extra Wish is not a guarantee of funding - creative, compelling and innovative requests have the best chance of receiving support from a Community Foundation donor.

Employee Resource Group (ERG) Grants

In 2024, the Deluxe Foundation introduced a new grant strategy to foster diverse and inclusive environments by harnessing the collective power of employee resource groups (ERGs) to create authentic, community-led impact. Their insight into specific issues can ensure that grant funding is directed to deserving initiatives that are meaningful to ERG members, employees and the commuities in which we live and work.

Each of Deluxe’s 10 ERGs will identify and establish a partnership with a nonprofit organization working on social issues relevant to their cause, and award one $25k general operating grant to the selected nonprofit organization.

Deluxe’s 10 ERGs are voluntary, employee-led groups brought together by a common interest, membership in a protected class, or shared experience.

LISC and Foot Locker, Inc., through the Foot Locker Foundation, are launching a third round of grants for the Foot Locker Foundation Community Empowerment Program, a multi-city initiative to support nonprofit community organizations that empower youth in underserved communities. The program aims to bridge gaps driven by racial inequity and promote youth empowerment and community wellness—all while supporting community-based organizations led by people of color. 

What we’re offering 

The Foot Locker Foundation Community Empowerment Program offers two types of grants: 

• Grants to support current youth programming, create new programming or extend existing programming. These grants will range from $25,000 to $75,000 over one year. 
• Grants to support capital improvement projects that enhance the impact of youth programming. These grants will range from $25,000 to $100,000 over one year.

Established in 1958, the Georgia-Pacific Foundation sets aside resources to improve life in the communities where we operate. We’ve worked with thousands of outstanding community-based programs, service projects and disaster relief efforts, focusing our investment in four areas we believe make the most impact:

Nissan Foundation

Nissan formed the Nissan Foundation in 1992 in response to the civil unrest that occurred near its then U.S. sales operations following the Rodney King trial verdict. Since its founding, the Nissan Foundation has annually awarded hundreds of thousands of dollars to nonprofit organizations that support the Foundation’s mission.

The primary mission of the Nissan foundation is to award grants to nonprofit organizations whose programs explore and celebrate cultural diversity and heritage.
