DCA is making available infrastructure funding in Georgia’s Appalachian Regional Commission footprint.  Funding limit per project is $2,000,000 and all applicable match requirements apply.    

GME Fellowship Expansion Grant - Rural Health Transformation Program

The Georgia Board of Health Care Workforce (GBHCW) announces the availability of grant funding to support the expansion of Graduate Medical Education (GME) Fellowship programs across rural Georgia through the Rural Health Transformation Program.

This initiative provides funding to rural hospitals, health systems, and academic partners to expand existing Fellowship programs by increasing Fellowship positions. The goal is to strengthen Georgia’s physician workforce by:

• Increasing training capacity in high-need specialties
• Expanding Fellowship opportunities in rural communities
• Improving long-term physician retention in underserved areas

Funding supports a net increase in filled Fellowship slots that serve rural counties and train physicians in core specialties critical to Georgia’s healthcare workforce needs.

Fellows supported under this program must complete training and commit to practicing in Georgia for a combined training and practice duration of at least five (5) years.

Program Requirements

• Programs must demonstrate a net increase in Fellowship positions using January 1, 2026, as the baseline.
• Funding is available only for new Fellowship slots that result in an actual increase in filled positions.

Available Slots & Funding Amount

• Up to 12 Fellowship slots are available statewide in approved areas.
• Each approved Fellowship slot will receive $200,000 per PGY year.
• Funding is distributed in two semi-annual payments of $100,000 each.
• Funding may be awarded for up to three (3) years per Fellowship slot.

Eligibility

Need based scholarship for Raleigh County graduates, Member of FFA (Future Farmers of America) and/or 4Hclub, Required documentation of participation in FFA and/or 4H club, and preference given to students who have submitted an FFA and/or 4H project to the West Virginia State Fair.

Eligibility

Graduating Senior from a Raleigh County High School; Pursuing a degree in the arts; 3.0 GPA; Demonstrate both academic merit, and financial need.

For over 70 years, the Scranton Area Community Foundation has served Northeastern Pennsylvania as a steward of charitable resources, a grantmaker, and a catalyst for positive change. Guided by our core values of collaboration, trust, integrity, innovation, and inclusivity, we work to ensure that our communities thrive with opportunities for all.

This scholarship is awarded to graduating seniors from Lackawanna County high schools who plan to continue their education in a college or university program. This $6,000 scholarship, renewable for up to three years (for a total of $24,000), is offered each year for full-time study at an accredited two- or four-year college or university of the student’s choice. 20 students will be selected annually for this award.

The James F. Swift Scholarship Fund has awarded over $5.5 million since 2008, benefitting 360 local students.

Created in 2002 through a gift by Mr. James F. Swift to the Scranton Area Community Foundation, the James F. Swift Scholarship Fund provides support for higher education for students graduating from high schools in Lackawanna County. Following Mr. Swift’s death in 2006, the Scranton Area Community Foundation gratefully received a significant gift from his estate to the scholarship fund, which has allowed a great number of students from Lackawanna County the opportunity to pursue their academic and professional goals through higher education.

Eligibility

Both need and merit will be considered in selecting applicants; Must be a minority student from Raleigh County, West Virginia; Pursuing either a masters in nursing degree, a nurse practitioner degree, or physician’s assistant degree at a West Virginia school, preferably in Raleigh County.

Eligibility

Equally weighted as a need and merit based award for a Raleigh County high school graduate with a 3.5 cumulative GPA; Pursuing baccalaureate degree in education at an accredited institution; Preference will go to students pursuing a science field including the biological, physical and natural sciences. If none apply with the preferences listed, mathematics will also be considered.
