California’s Credit Unions and Nevada’s Credit Unions are the trade associations representing credit unions across both states. Each year, California’s Credit Unions and Nevada’s Credit Unions honor distinguished industry leaders and volunteers during the Leagues’ REACH Conference. 

J. Alvin George Outstanding Volunteer Award

This award honors significant contributions by people who serve credit unions in volunteer capacities, such as a director or committee member. It was renamed in 2013 in honor of the long-time credit union volunteer, J. Alvin George, who passed away that same year.

The Ernest Morgan Memorial Scholarship, managed by CommunityGiving, supports central Minnesota student athletes and leaders to pursue higher education outside their home states. This scholarship aims to expand students' horizons and experiences, with a total award of $5,000 available. Open to high school seniors from specific schools, applicants are encouraged to apply online and demonstrate their leadership or athletic skills. This initiative enhances educational opportunities and fosters personal growth among local youth.

The Transit and Intercity Rail Capital Program (TIRCP) aims to enhance California's rail and transit systems through transformative capital improvements. Funded by the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund, it focuses on reducing greenhouse gas emissions, expanding transit services, and improving safety. The program is designed to benefit disadvantaged communities, ensuring that at least 25% of funds support projects that address their needs. Overall, TIRCP seeks to modernize transportation and promote sustainable transit solutions in California.

The CAL FIRE Forest Health Research Program aims to enhance forest resilience in California by funding critical research in forest health and fire science. This initiative, part of the California Climate Investments, supports studies that address vital topics such as wildfire management, ecological impacts, and socio-economic factors. By prioritizing scientific research, the program ensures that actionable insights are available for forest management decisions to combat climate change effects and promote biodiversity.

The Sabbatical Research and Education Grant, offered by Western SARE, enables faculty worldwide to collaborate with farmers and researchers in the Western U.S. This program focuses on conducting innovative research and educational outreach in underserved regions, with an emphasis on unexplored topics. Grants up to $75,000 are available for projects spanning one year, promoting agricultural sustainability and community involvement.

The California Casualty Music & Arts Grant supports K-12 public schools facing budget cuts that threaten their music and arts programs. Eligible applicants, who must be active employees of public K-12 schools and members of specified educator associations, can request grants of $250 for music or arts needs. This initiative aims to enhance creative education across the states, excluding AK, HI, MA, MI, NY, and WI. Applications received by July 15 will be notified by November 30.

The Dunkin’ Prom Grant, provided by the Joy in Childhood Foundation, aims to bring joy to teenage patients unable to attend their own prom due to illness. By funding hospitals to host prom-like events, the program ensures these patients experience this significant milestone. Grants typically range from $20,000 to $50,000, supporting the creation of memorable events with themes, food, entertainment, and formal wear for the teens, making a positive impact in their lives.

The Connecting Joy Grant, provided by the Joy in Childhood Foundation, aims to enhance the hospital experience for children battling illness through engaging gaming programs. This initiative supports children's hospitals and nonprofits by funding equipment, staffing, and connectivity, ensuring children can enjoy gaming at their bedside. With grants ranging from $25,000 to $150,000, the program focuses on offering joy and distraction, helping young patients cope with their hospital stays while facilitating connections with peers.

About the NCGA

The NCGA is dedicated to helping NorCal golfers enjoy golf more. We work to deliver competitive and casual playing opportunities for golfers of all abilities, provide Rules of Golf education and Handicap Index services, celebrate golf in the region and bring members valuable benefits through our partners in the game. We have over 200k members belonging to over 1,300 clubs.

NCGA Reach Grant Program

The NCGA's vision is “to ensure the game of golf is vibrant, inclusive, and accessible.” To help achieve this vision in partnership with our public access golf facilities and programs, we launched a new grant program called NCGA Reach.

The objective of the grant program is to help enable Northern California public golf facilities and public programs to test new programming to be more inclusive, enhance the diversity of golfers in our region, and help grow the game of golf.

We are allocating funding, available through approved grant applications, to provide financial assistance to test and expand facility-led pilot programs. These programs may include, but are not limited to, new event formats, mentorship, parental engagement, training, insight research and more.

NCGA Reach will provide recipients with up to $25K each. We focus on funding projects that align with the NGCA Foundation's mission and priorities.

Projects focused on growing golf participation among underrepresented groups through programs that are:

• Innovative but practical
• Scalable and repeatable
• Multi-year rather than one-time events
• Designed to create measurable participation growth

The Beneficial State Foundation offers sponsorships to 501(c)(3) organizations in California, Oregon, and Washington, focusing on social justice and environmental work. With a unique business model, Beneficial State Bank reinvests profits back into communities, emphasizing support for existing clients. Organizations must submit requests at least 60 days in advance and cannot use funds for political activities. The foundation prioritizes partnerships, making funding competitive due to high demand.

The Song-Brown Registered Nurse Education Program (CA) aims to fund organizations that train Registered Nurses (RNs) for underserved communities. Grants support pre-licensure RN programs to recruit students from Registered Nurse Shortage Areas (RNSAs) and prepare them for diverse environments. Eligible programs may receive funding for existing or expansion slots, with a maximum award of $300,000 for two years. This initiative enhances healthcare access in multicultural and low-income neighborhoods.

The Western SARE Local Education and Demonstration Grants aim to promote sustainable agriculture through practical demonstrations and educational activities. This program addresses barriers to adopting sustainable practices by integrating findings from previous research. Projects can last up to three years and receive funding of up to $60,000. Successful proposals involve local demonstrations, trainings, and technical assistance, engaging farmers, ranchers, and agricultural professionals in the process of sustainable agriculture adoption.

The Local Government Waste Tire Enforcement Grant Program, offered by CalRecycle, provides essential funding for California jurisdictions to enforce waste tire laws. Eligible applicants, including cities and counties, can receive grants based on their population size, with amounts ranging from $350,000 to $650,000. This non-competitive funding aims to ensure compliance with regulations related to waste tire permitting, hauling, and storage, fostering a cleaner environment and public safety.

The Virginia H. Glasson Charitable Trust Grant supports Christian charitable organizations and preferred beneficiaries. It funds projects in areas such as education, scientific research, religious activities, and arts and culture. Eligible applicants are nonprofit organizations recognized under section 501(c)(3) of the IRS tax code, located in states such as California, Colorado, Florida, Missouri, North Carolina, and Washington D.C. However, individuals cannot apply for funding.

The California Deaf and Hard of Hearing Grant aims to provide essential employment and training services tailored for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing. By enhancing access to specialized counseling, interpretive services, and job placement opportunities, the program ensures equitable support in job readiness and retention. It targets those actively seeking employment, facilitating their integration into the workforce while upholding a commitment to effective communication and advocacy.

The Fiscal Year 2026 Cooperating Technical Partners (CTP) Program, funded by FEMA, aims to enhance flood risk awareness and management in communities across Region 9. With a total funding of $41 million, the program supports the development of crucial flood hazard data and mapping, empowering local entities to make informed decisions on flood risk reduction. This initiative fosters collaboration among government agencies and the private sector, ensuring effective planning and response to flooding challenges.

The Climate Adaptation Planning Grant, part of California's Sustainable Transportation Planning Grants, provides $3 million to support local and regional efforts in addressing climate vulnerabilities in transportation infrastructure. This grant encourages the development of adaptation plans that aim to mitigate damage from climate change and extreme weather. Open to applicants with ongoing or new adaptation efforts, it fosters strategic planning for roads, railways, and other critical transport systems across the state.

Nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations and public agencies in California can seek funding for criminal justice reform, immigrant and workers’ rights, and civil rights advocacy. Rosenberg Foundation supports leadership development, policy advocacy, and grassroots organizing that dismantle barriers for low-income communities and communities of color; museum-based programs engaging these issues may be eligible. Awards are up to US $100,000.

The Orphan Site Cleanup Fund Grant, administered by the California State Water Resources Control Board, offers crucial financial support for the cleanup of sites contaminated by leaking petroleum underground storage tanks. This program is designed for applicants without a financially responsible party and who are ineligible for the UST Cleanup Fund. Funding can reach up to $1 million, covering various response actions including site assessments and corrective action plans, ensuring environmental safety and compliance.

The Urban and Community Forestry- Green Schoolyards grant aims to enhance outdoor environments for nonprofit child care facilities in California, focusing on climate resilience and educational opportunities. This initiative promotes tree planting and the transformation of pavements into green spaces, fostering natural learning environments. With funding ranging from $200,000 to $6,000,000, this program supports projects that mitigate extreme heat and improve urban ecology, benefiting both children and surrounding communities.

The California Community Reinvestment Grants Program aims to support communities disproportionately affected by past drug policies. Established under Proposition 64, this initiative provides funding for essential services such as job placement, mental health treatment, and legal support. By promoting health, wellness, and economic justice, the program focuses on advancing trauma-informed care and ensuring accountability to stakeholders. Through these efforts, the program seeks to rectify historical inequalities and foster community resilience.

The Bright Futures Scholarship, initiated by the Silicon Valley Community Foundation in 2010, supports students in California demonstrating academic promise. Eligible candidates include graduating high school seniors, current college students, and re-entry students with a minimum 2.0 GPA. This scholarship aims to enhance educational opportunities for those planning to enroll in two- or four-year institutions, providing vital financial assistance to deserving applicants.

The Proposition 4 grant aims to enhance wildfire resilience and forest restoration while promoting watershed improvement and workforce development for disadvantaged communities. It emphasizes community engagement and multi-benefit projects that improve access to open spaces and natural resources. The California San Gabriel and Lower Los Angeles Rivers and Mountains Conservancy oversees this initiative, encouraging collaboration among various stakeholders to address regional needs, including water quality and habitat restoration.

The Goodwin Family Memorial Trust Grant supports the moral, physical, and intellectual development of needy males under 21 in California. Established by Mabel Frankie Goodwin, the trust focuses on education, health, and human services. Grants range from $10,000 to $35,000, with 35 grants awarded annually, totaling up to $600,000 in yearly giving. Organizations must be 501(c)(3) public charities and wait one year after four consecutive grants before reapplying.

The DISC5 Awards, funded by the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine, aim to support innovative research in stem cell technologies that enhance patient care. Grants of up to $1.5 million for individual projects and $3 million for team efforts are available, with a project duration of up to three years. These awards encourage collaboration and focus on addressing critical knowledge gaps in regenerative medicine, promoting diversity and inclusivity in research.

The CA EQIP High Tunnel Initiative Grant supports farmers in California by providing financial assistance for high tunnel systems, which are structures that extend the growing season and improve crop quality. This program promotes sustainable agricultural practices by improving soil health, conserving water, and reducing the use of pesticides. Farmers can benefit from technical support to implement these practices effectively, ultimately helping to provide local communities with fresh produce year-round.

The Slave 2 Nothing Foundation supports 501(c)(3) organizations addressing human trafficking and substance abuse in states with In-N-Out Burger locations. Their mission is to empower individuals to overcome enslavement by providing essential resources and support. The foundation follows a rigorous vetting process for grant applications, emphasizing the importance of impactful solutions and community engagement. They encourage eligible nonprofits to apply annually, promoting sustainable support for vital services aimed at healing and freedom.
