Search Through School Health Grants in Connecticut in the U.S.

The Civic Engagement Mini-Grants program, funded by the Community Foundation of Eastern Connecticut, supports initiatives aimed at fostering inclusive civic participation. Grants of up to $1,000 are available for 501(c)(3) organizations, schools, and governmental agencies serving 42 communities in Eastern Connecticut. This initiative emphasizes the importance of an informed and engaged citizenry, particularly from communities of color and youth, to strengthen democratic values and community well-being.

The Community Facilities Grant Program in Connecticut provides essential funding for rural areas to develop vital community facilities. This program supports projects such as healthcare facilities, public safety services, and educational institutions, enhancing the quality of life in these communities. Priority is given to smaller or low-income communities, ensuring equitable access to resources. Eligible applicants include public bodies and non-profit organizations, fostering local development and infrastructure improvements.

The P/Arts Program

The P/Arts Program was created to strengthen connections between the philanthropic, arts, and education communities, fostering meaningful collaborations that enrich learning and inspire growth.

Eligible applicants must be accredited 501(c)(3) organizations that integrate visual and/or performing arts education into their work. Through P/Arts, we seek to support programs that:

• Revitalize learning by enhancing and transforming outdated public school curricula.
• Motivate and inspire students of all ages, encouraging curiosity, creativity, and lifelong learning.
• Empower educators by deepening professional development opportunities for teachers, professors, and childcare providers.
• Bridge the gap between school and home, creating continuity in learning and support for children and families.
• Apply evidence-based, arts-based instruction proven to strengthen both academic and personal outcomes.
• Address inequities in education by helping to close the achievement gap and expand access to high-quality learning opportunities.

At its heart, the P/Arts Program reflects our belief that the arts are a powerful driver of educational transformation, unlocking potential not just in the classroom but in entire communities.

The Northwest Connecticut Community Foundation (NCCF) offers Cycle Grants to enhance community life through arts, education, environment, health, and social services. Grants are available for small projects up to $1,500 and traditional projects over $1,500, with an average award of $5,000. NCCF encourages innovative, collaborative projects serving residents in its 20-town area, fostering local philanthropy and volunteerism.

The Pew Biomedical Scholars Program offers significant funding of $300,000 over four years to support early-career researchers in biomedical sciences. The program encourages innovative and impactful research that contributes to human health, requiring nomination from one of the 212 participating institutions. Candidates must hold a doctorate, run an independent lab as an assistant professor, and demonstrate exceptional promise. This program fosters collaboration and annual meetings for scholars to present their findings.

The Tow Foundation Innovation Fund aims to enhance youth mental health by providing grants between $300,000 and $1 million to nonprofit organizations. This initiative seeks innovative solutions to improve access to mental health care for youth aged 0-25, addressing barriers and fostering community support. The foundation invites diverse applicants to propose bold approaches that can lead to transformative impacts, focusing on both proven and novel strategies in various settings.

The Gladys Brooks Foundation supports innovative projects in libraries, education, hospitals, and clinics. Grants focus on resource endowments, capital construction, and equipment aimed at improving public access to information and educational resources. Eligible applicants must be 501(c)(3) organizations located in specific states and demonstrate that projects will be funded primarily by the grant. Applications for direct salary support or research projects are not accepted.

The Dr. Colin Richman and Family Perio.-Ortho. Interface Award fosters innovative research at the intersection of orthodontics and periodontology, addressing critical issues such as alveolar bone deficiencies and airway management. Annually, $20,000-$40,000 will be awarded to support clinical or basic science research aimed at enhancing patient outcomes through collaborative treatments. This grant aims to complement existing institutional support rather than replace it, ensuring that groundbreaking research in this field continues to thrive.

The Lloyd G. Balfour Foundation, established in 1973, focuses on educational support for underserved populations in New England. It offers scholarships for employees of the Balfour Company and their families, as well as funding for organizations that provide educational services in Attleboro and surrounding areas. The Foundation prioritizes programs aimed at college readiness and success, particularly for first-generation and low-income students, and encourages multi-year funding requests to enhance nonprofit sustainability.

The Tabor Foundation Fund, managed by the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation, offers scholarships for residents of northwest Litchfield County, northeast Dutchess County, and southeast Columbia County who are pursuing careers in healthcare. Established in 1987, the foundation aims to strengthen communities through philanthropy, innovation, and equity. Preference is given to students caring for dependents or attending local schools, ensuring opportunities for economic mobility and a high quality of life for all.

The CT Grown for CT Kids Grant provides vital funding to enhance farm-to-school programs in Connecticut. Aimed at local boards of education, childcare centers, and organizations, this grant focuses on improving children's access to local foods, fostering nutritional education, and supporting local agriculture. By facilitating hands-on learning and sustainable practices, the program aims to enrich the educational experience and promote healthier lifestyles among children, ultimately benefiting the state's economy.

The Women & Girls’ Fund, established by the Main Street Community Foundation in 2001, supports organizations that empower women and girls in Connecticut. With a focus on senior services, confidence building, and mental health, the fund prioritizes projects that enhance self-sufficiency and promote leadership skills. Collaborations among organizations are encouraged, fostering community connections and addressing critical needs. Grants are available for program and capacity-building initiatives that align with these goals.

The Claire C. Bennitt Watershed Fund Grant Program supports the acquisition of watershed lands to protect water quality and enhance community life. Grants are aimed at non-profits, municipalities, and educational institutions, focusing on projects that benefit the South Central Connecticut Regional Water District. Eligible projects must enhance water supply protection and include appraisals and purchase agreements. The Fund emphasizes conservation easements and environmental education, ensuring sustainable management of vital water resources.

Liberty Bank is committed to enhancing community engagement through its Corporate and Branch Sponsorships, supporting a variety of non-profit organizations and events. With a focus on cultural, educational, and health services, Liberty Bank contributes to initiatives within Connecticut and Greater Springfield, Massachusetts. Sponsorship opportunities include fundraisers, concerts, and sporting events, fostering long-lasting community ties. By investing in local programs, Liberty Bank aims to make a meaningful impact and support the causes that matter most to its communities.

The Watershed Fund offers Environmental Education Grants to organizations focused on preserving water quality and enhancing community appreciation for environmental resources. Grants, typically not exceeding $10,000, support projects that educate the public on the significance of watershed land and its impact on local ecosystems. Eligible applicants include non-profits, municipalities, and educational institutions within the South Central Connecticut Regional Water District. The program emphasizes measurable outcomes and collaboration with existing environmental education initiatives.

The Seherr-Thoss Foundation Grant, established in 1991, primarily supports cultural, educational, health-related, religious, and civic initiatives within the Town of Litchfield, Connecticut. The foundations, initiated by Sonia and Hans Seherr-Thoss, have funded numerous local projects, including capital improvements for community organizations and essential equipment for volunteer services. They welcome applications from exempt organizations that align with their mission to enhance the community's well-being and preserve its heritage.

The CT Grown for CT Kids Grant supports K-12 schools in Connecticut to enhance Farm-to-School programs, promoting local food in child nutrition initiatives. Established in 2021, this grant program provides up to $50,000 for projects lasting up to 24 months. It aims to improve children's health, enrich education through hands-on learning about nutrition, and foster connections with local farmers, ultimately benefiting the state's economy.

CT Grown for CT Kids

The CTG4CTK Grant shall, assist schools, school districts, childcare centers and homes, and organizations to develop farm-to-school programs that will increase the availability of local foods in child nutrition programs, allow educators to use hands-on educational techniques to teach students about nutrition and farm-to-school connections, sustain relationships with local farmers and producers, enrich the educational experience of students, improve the health of children in the state and enhance the state's economy.

Connecticut Farm to Early Childcare and Education (ECE) Grant

Purpose

Early Childcare Education (ECE) is a critical component of farm to school, yet many operate very differently from K-12 education, thus we have created a separate track for all ECE providers and networks to apply. Applicants under this category will only be evaluated against each other.

Potential Projects

Project Examples (projects can incorporate multiple components; you are not limited to those listed):

• Purchase of Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) shares for students and families.
• Purchase of CT Grown farm products for integration into student snacks/meals with clear educational farm and/or nutrition connection.
• Purchase and installation of raised garden beds or indoor growing systems/container gardens, tools, and equipment for experiential learning.
• Development/expansion of agriculture curriculum for students.
• Establishing and expanding Farm to ECE Networks.
• Professional Development Trainings for staff.
• Family engagement activities such as the creation of recipe books, cooking classes and/or take-home taste tests.
• Farm field trip and farmer visit to school(s)

Funding

Early childcare educators may apply for up to $50,000, and their programs must run for a minimum of twelve (12) months to a maximum of eighteen (18) months.

The Environment Pillar Award by Honda supports nonprofit organizations and schools in the U.S. focused on sustainability. Grants aim to reduce environmental impact through programs in decarbonization, clean energy, and efficient resource use. Eligible projects must align with Honda's mission and primarily benefit communities where Honda associates live and work. Organizations can apply for up to two grants, provided they meet specific eligibility criteria, including tax-exempt status under the IRS.

The Tree Campus Higher Education Program, led by the National Arbor Day Foundation, encourages colleges and universities to foster green spaces and enhance community forests. By meeting five key standards, institutions can achieve national recognition for their commitment to tree care and environmental stewardship. This program not only beautifies campuses but also promotes energy efficiency, mental health, and student engagement in environmental education, ultimately benefiting both students and the planet.

The Mae Passini and Juliet Anderson Memorial Fund, established by Frank T. Passini, honors his wife and step-daughter, both dedicated to nursing. This scholarship supports nurses pursuing graduate studies, prioritizing Simsbury residents. Since 1945, the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving has awarded nearly $30 million in scholarships, aiding local students in their quest for higher education. With a commitment to educational advancement, this fund exemplifies community support and the importance of healthcare professionals.

The Mari Shinoda Scholarship Fund, established by the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, supports local students from the Greater Hartford area who demonstrate academic excellence and financial need. This scholarship targets those pursuing careers in helping professions such as social work and public health. With a history of nearly $30 million awarded, the program continues to empower students in their pursuit of higher education, fostering community commitment and professional ambition.

The Karen Kisslinger Fund, established by Karen's family, upholds her legacy of compassion and health in mind, body, and community. This unique charitable resource supports students from specific high schools in Connecticut and New York who are passionate about holistic health practices. Grants fund activities like yoga, mindfulness, and sustainable farming, ensuring that Karen's commitment to wellness and ethical living continues to inspire future generations.

The Cigna Group Foundation is launching the Improving Youth Mental Health Grant, committing $9 million over three years to enhance mental health support for youth aged five to 18. This initiative targets post-pandemic challenges, offering resources to parents, caregivers, and youth service professionals. Nonprofits are encouraged to apply for funding between $100,000 and $150,000 to develop programs that promote social-emotional skills, enhance caregiver support, and improve access to mental health interventions in underserved communities.

The Foist Family Perseverance Scholarship Fund, established by the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation, aims to support adult learners and graduating high school seniors from Berkshire County pursuing careers in healthcare and sciences. With a focus on clinical and research fields such as nursing and occupational therapy, this fund seeks to empower individuals in their educational and professional journeys, promoting economic mobility and high quality of life in the community.

The Guido's Fresh Marketplace Scholarship Fund, established by the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation, honors the legacy of Guido Masiero, a dedicated educator and entrepreneur. This scholarship aims to support graduating high school students from public schools in Pittsfield, Lenox, or Great Barrington, Massachusetts, who are pursuing higher education in physical education, health, wellness, or business studies. The fund reflects the foundation's mission to enhance community opportunities and economic mobility.

The Spencer’s Hero Academia Memorial Scholarship, managed by the Community Foundation of Greater New Britain, supports students facing life-threatening illnesses who aspire to pursue higher education. Eligible candidates include graduating seniors or past graduates from Connecticut high schools, as well as current Connecticut residents enrolled in accredited colleges or universities. This scholarship emphasizes resilience and determination, awarding those who demonstrate perseverance despite personal health challenges.
