David Foster Memorial Scholarship

David Foster was a teacher who changed the lives of thousands of students.

David not only created a vibrant classroom environment, but made an impact on his students that often lasted for decades. This was the result of his willingness to go above and beyond, engaging students’ curiosity, opening their minds to new ideas, and challenging the status quo.

This scholarship aims to honor the legacy of David Foster by supporting students who have adopted new ways of thinking through a high school teacher’s boldness to transcend the standard curriculum, reframe stale ideas, apply radical teaching techniques, or motivate students in unique ways.

Scholarships for High School Seniors

Mid-Shore Community Foundation awards scholarships to high school seniors in Caroline, Dorchester, Kent, Queen Anne’s and Talbot Counties, who are planning to attend a college, university, or trade school. In general, scholarships are awarded to students who demonstrate academic achievement, community service, financial need, and other criteria specified by the donor.

Woicke Family Scholarship

Awarded to Mid-Shore students, who are of Hispanic/Latino descent, who speak English as a second language AND/OR are first-generation college students.

Mid Shore Community Foundation 

Mid-Shore Community Foundation awards scholarships to high school seniors in Caroline, Dorchester, Kent, Queen Anne’s and Talbot Counties, who are planning to attend a college, university, or trade school. In general, scholarships are awarded to students who demonstrate academic achievement, community service, financial need, and other criteria specified by the donor.

The Foundation awards scholarships to high school seniors through a pooled scholarship application - students complete one online application in consideration for all scholarships to which they meet eligibility. Michaela D. Coulbourn Memorial Scholarship

Awarded to students graduating from Caroline County Public Schools, who are planning to pursue degrees in Education.

The DC Engineering Scholarship at Montana State University supports students pursuing degrees in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering with a minimum 3.3 GPA. This scholarship aims to encourage diversity in engineering by preferring applicants who are members of the Society of Women Engineers or similar organizations. With a rich history dating back to 1893, MSU is committed to transforming lives through education and research, providing vital support for incoming students.

The Environmental Education Fund, established in 2009, aims to connect K-12 students in Emmet County with nature through grants that support nature-based learning. Eligible applicants include local schools and 501(c)(3) nonprofits, with requests capped at $500. This initiative has positively impacted nearly 5,000 children, fostering appreciation for the region's rich natural resources.

Bradley Collins Memorial Scholarship Fund

Scholarship Eligibility

• Graduating high school senior from any Palm Beach or Martin County high school
• Must be a household and/or community leader
• Demonstrate financial need

The David W. and Dorothy E. Patterson Scholarship at Montana State University supports students pursuing a degree in business. Eligible candidates must be Montana high school graduates, demonstrate financial need, maintain junior status or higher, and possess a minimum GPA of 3.0. This scholarship empowers students to achieve their academic goals while contributing to the community and economy of Montana.

Christopher N. Coppola Scholarship Fund

About the Fund

When friends remember Christopher N. Coppola, who died unexpectedly in March 2000 at age 33, they speak of his boundless energy, unflagging good humor, and infectious zest for life.

“He was the glue that kept all the rest of us together,” said Mary Murphy, whose older brother, Martin, was Chris’ classmate from kindergarten through graduation at Cardinal Newman High School. An only child, Chris considered the Murphy siblings — and many others — his extended family. “He was always with us,” she added.

After earning his degree from Appalachian State University in North Carolina, Chris returned to West Palm Beach to work with the Murphy family’s construction company. He later built a successful career as a certified commercial real estate appraiser with firms including Johnson & Parrish and Callaway & Price, contributing to major development projects throughout South Florida.

“Chris had more circles of friends than anyone could ever imagine,” said Martin Murphy. “He just loved being around people. He was a real gregarious person. Everyone felt he was their best friend.”

“He could always find something good about someone,” added Mary. “He really listened. He was a great friend to everyone. He could always make you laugh. He was an unbelievable person.”

Chris’s sudden loss left a void that inspired his friends to honor his memory in a lasting way. Led by the Murphy and Satter families, they established the Christopher N. Coppola Scholarship Fund at the Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties. The fund supports graduating high school seniors in Palm Beach County who plan to study real estate or related fields such as construction, architecture, urban planning, development, or appraisal.

The David O. Kem and Judith L. Raines Scholarship at Montana State University supports undergraduate students pursuing degrees in engineering. Established as part of the university's commitment to providing transformative education, this scholarship may be renewable at the discretion of the award authority, ensuring continued support for qualified recipients. This opportunity is aimed at fostering the next generation of engineers while enhancing access to higher education for deserving students.

The David Barr and Ginny Reese Music Scholarship at Montana State University supports aspiring musicians pursuing degrees from the School of Music. Eligible candidates must be Montana high school graduates demonstrating financial need and successfully completing a music scholarship audition. Preference is given to those participating in music ensembles or enrolled in applied lessons. This scholarship reflects MSU's commitment to educational access and the transformative power of music education.

Today, the Foundation stewards over 1,000 charitable funds totaling $485 million in assets and has granted more than $300 million to nonprofits in our community and beyond.

Scholarships

Stark Community Foundation is one of the area’s major sources of college scholarship support— thanks to the generosity of caring individuals, families and businesses that have created scholarship funds.

The Foundation currently manages more than 100 scholarship funds that support hundreds of deserving students each year from Stark and Carroll counties.

The Notre Dame Club of Canton, Ohio Scholarship Fund

The Notre Dame Club of Canton, Ohio Scholarship Fund assists students who attended a Stark County or Tuscarawas County high school, Dalton High School, Orrville High School or Central Christian High School in Kidron, Ohio and will attend the University of Notre Dame. 

This scholarship is renewable.
