Urban Greening Grant Program

Funding Purpose

The Urban Greening Grant Program will fund projects that use nature-based solutions to mitigate the urban heat island effect, rising temperatures, and extreme heat impacts in urban areas.

Nature-based solutions include all the ways land can be managed to boost the health and resilience of natural systems, helping them store carbon and protect against climate change impacts, including extreme heat. Nature-based solutions that address extreme heat impacts use natural cooling strategies to limit temperature increase and urban heat islands. Examples include planting trees that provide strategic shade, expanding green spaces that serve as places of refuge during heat waves, and increasing tree canopy cover in cities, communities, and schoolyards.

Successful projects will green and cool communities and offer multiple benefits including sequestering carbon, limiting stormwater runoff, providing habitat and preserving biodiversity, protecting public health during extreme heat, increasing equity, and expanding economic and workforce opportunities. Funded projects are expected to advance the goals of the State’s Extreme Heat Action Plan and Nature-Based Solutions Climate Targets. 

The HFBC Community Fund Grant supports local organizations in Bartholomew County, distributing over $700,000 annually to promote positive change and development. By focusing on strategic areas such as Youth Development, Downtown Vitality, and Arts & Culture, the Heritage Fund aims to address community needs effectively. Applicants are encouraged to demonstrate how their proposals align with these priorities. A letter of intent is required one week before the application deadline to express interest.

The California Active Transportation Program (ATP) supports projects enhancing biking and walking across the state, with $6,137,000 available in the latest call for projects. Inspire Olympia's Mission

Providing a reliable source of public funding that sustains a healthy, visible, welcoming, and inclusive nonprofit cultural and science sector, making creative cultural experiences accessible for everyone in Olympia.Impact Funding

Inspire Olympia is a voter-approved initiative to increase access to quality arts, sciences, heritage, and cultural experiences across Olympia by expanding offerings and lowering barriers to participation, especially for youth and underserved populations. This multi-year public investment seeks to strengthen our community’s nonprofit cultural organizations so they can extend inspiring, creative cultural programs to everyone.

Funding is distributed to local cultural organizations through contracts for services with the City of Olympia. Following the application process, contracts are awarded to those who best demonstrate how their arts, culture, heritage, and/or science programs benefit people and communities in Olympia. 

Primary Funding Goals

All applicants for Inspire Olympia funding are encouraged to focus on the way their work supports Inspire Olympia’s funding goals:

• Support public programs in arts, culture, heritage, or science.
• Increase access to these programs and reduce barriers to participation, especially for historically underserved populations.
• Support programming by and for culturally or ethnically specific communities and underrepresented groups.
• Expand access to youth education programs in arts, culture, heritage, and science.
• Support the sustainability of and collaboration among cultural sector organizations.

Comprehensive Funding

Comprehensive Funding is open to eligible Olympia-based non-profit cultural organizations that demonstrate an organizational commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and who provide a variety of public and youth programming throughout the year.

Funding Range: Funding Range: Applicants in this category may request up to 20% of the organization’s total annual budget, based on the average of actual income over the last two completed fiscal years, up to a maximum of $85,000 per year for two years. This funding is meant to help organizations sustain and expand programming aligned with Inspire Olympia funding priorities. Inspire Olympia funds are expected to cover a portion of key cultural services listed in funding contracts.

The Regional Water Implementation Grant aims to enhance collaboration among water systems in Kansas by providing funding for preliminary engineering studies. With a maximum funding amount of $1,000,000 for 2024, this grant encourages projects that consolidate systems, expand water supply districts, and connect previously unlinked public water supply systems.
