The Elizabeth Furber Scholarship honors the legacy of Elizabeth Furber by providing financial assistance to American Indian and Alaska Native female graduate students. This scholarship supports students pursuing full-time degrees in various fields, including fine arts, music, and creative writing. As a need-based award, it requires applicants to demonstrate Tribal affiliation through a Tribal Eligibility Certificate. This opportunity empowers eligible students to achieve their academic goals.

The New York State Conservation Partnership Grant Program, managed by the Land Trust Alliance and the Department of Environmental Conservation, supports land trusts through competitive grants. With over $34 million awarded, the program aims to boost organizational capacity, enhance stewardship efforts, and catalyze community engagement in conservation projects across New York. Grants are available in five categories, including Capacity & Excellence, Professional Development, and Stewardship & Resource Management, promoting sustainable conservation practices.

The Empty Glass Beverage Transportation Grant Program aims to enhance the transport of empty glass beverage containers to processing facilities in California via rail. With an annual budget of $1,000,000 from the Beverage Container Recycling Fund, this program supports projects that improve rail transport efficiency, including equipment purchases, construction of new rail lines, and related personnel costs. Eligible projects must ensure operations are conducted by California-based businesses.

Community Giving

Each year, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Montana supports communities throughout our state with grants and sponsorships with the overarching goal of improving access to and affordability of health care. We are proud of these community investments and value the very important work that organizations are doing to keep Montanans healthy.

Community giving is divided into three areas: grants, sponsorships and Blue Impact℠ major grants. Areas of focus and exclusions for all funding requests, and specific requirements for each type of funding are detailed below, along with links to apply.

Areas of Focus

All community giving at BCBSMT is designed to build healthier communities as part of an ongoing commitment to invest in and partner with nonprofit organizations to reach Montanans in these focus areas:

• Economic opportunity and stability: Addressing issues such as poverty, removing barriers to employment, providing good jobs and upskilling;
• Nutrition: Supporting efforts to decrease hunger and increase access to nutritional food;
• Neighborhood and local assets: Focusing on affordable healthy housing, access to transportation and to physical activity;
• Locally defined health solutions: Addressing hyperlocal health and human service needs; and 
• Optimal health

BCBSMT Grants

A charitable grant supports either program-focused initiatives or general operating support. Grants provide support to programs and organizations that align with our mission to promote health, wellness and human services in the communities we serve.

The Valley Water Community Partnering Sponsorship Program supports local organizations and events that align with its mission of providing safe and clean water in Silicon Valley. This program encourages civic engagement and environmental stewardship by offering sponsorships to public agencies, nonprofits, schools, and community groups. Eligible applicants are those that demonstrate a commitment to regional water policy and positive environmental impact. This initiative underscores Valley Water's dedication to collaborative efforts in fostering a sustainable community.

The T2025 Multifamily Finance Super NOFA for Los Angeles allocates approximately $101 million to support multifamily housing and infrastructure projects in areas affected by wildfires in January 2025. The California Department of Housing and Community Development aims to expedite affordable housing solutions for disaster survivors through two application phases, emphasizing immediate construction and readiness. Eligible programs include Multifamily Housing, Supportive Housing, and Infrastructure Grant initiatives, all focused on enhancing housing stability and community recovery.

The Veterans Donation Fund Large Grant A.R.S. 41-608 supports programs benefiting Arizona's veterans and their families. Established by the Arizona legislature in 1999, the fund is sustained by tax-deductible donations and aims to engage the community in informing veterans about their benefits. Eligible applicants include local governments, non-profits, and academic institutions, focusing on issues like employment, health, and homelessness. This initiative is crucial for enhancing support services for over 600,000 veterans in Arizona.

The AW Environmental Grant Program, backed by American Water Works Company, Inc., aims to support community-driven projects focused on water conservation and the protection of vital water resources. Since 2012, the foundation has invested over $15 million in innovative initiatives that enhance access to clean water and promote responsible water usage in underserved communities. Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) charities and educational institutions committed to environmental stewardship.

Fairfield County’s Community Foundation

Fairfield County’s Community Foundation works closely with local organizations, nonprofits, businesses, government, and philanthropists to address challenges and identify opportunities to create a stronger, more vibrant region. Informed by three decades of partnering with and serving our community, we have awarded more than $420 million in grants to nonprofits in Fairfield County and beyond.

Fairfield County Food Security Grants

Fairfield County Food Security grants seek to fill unmet needs in underserved communities by strengthening the collaborative efforts of nonprofits and grassroots organizations that are responding to increased demands and community needs. The Community Foundation will award organizations that best demonstrate the potential to make meaningful, measurable changes in our community by centering equity and transforming the systems and structures at the root of inequities. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, until available funded are expended.

Specifically, the Fairfield County Food Security grants seek to fill unmet needs in underserved communities by strengthening the collaborative efforts of nonprofits responding to the increased demands and community needs, including:  

• Neighborhood food banks and hyperlocal pantry programs (e.g., mutual aid, churches). 
• Grassroots food distribution networks that deliver directly to families and seniors. 
• School and after-school nutrition programs that fill gaps for children and teens. 
• Food pantries at community colleges meet students’ basic needs.
• Services for people reentering the community from incarceration and veterans’ groups expanding food access.
• Local farms and community growers that help supply healthy, culturally relevant foods for underserved communities.
• Advocating for policies related to food access and gaps in food security.

The Communities Caring for Canopy grants offer vital seed funding for communities to establish and maintain urban forestry programs in Vermont. With a total of $40,000 available for projects like tree planting, maintenance, and public outreach, individual awards range from $5,000 to $10,000. This initiative encourages collaboration and innovation in managing local tree resources, ensuring community engagement and environmental sustainability.

The Growing Healthy Kids Grant, funded by The Sprouts Healthy Communities Foundation, aims to support community-based programs that enhance children's nutrition access and health education. With grant amounts ranging from $5,000 to $10,000, this initiative focuses on hands-on programs that promote healthy habits among children and their families. Eligible organizations must be 501(c)(3) nonprofits located in areas where Sprouts Farmers Market operates, helping to ensure that the funds directly benefit local communities.

The Clean Water State Revolving Fund (CWSRF) Program in California has been vital for financing projects aimed at enhancing water quality since 1989. The State Water Resources Control Board outlines its plans for SFY 2025-26 in this Intended Use Plan, highlighting significant updates and objectives for funding. This program not only supports environmental health but also fosters sustainable development across the state.

Cytokinetics is dedicated to supporting local communities in the San Francisco Bay Area and Greater Philadelphia Region by providing access to essential services that address food and housing insecurity. Their funding initiatives aim to foster stability and resilience among at-risk populations, emphasizing charitable donations to qualified 501(c)(3) organizations that align with their corporate giving priorities. This support helps build strong connections between Cytokinetics and the communities they serve.

The Shelby County Community Health Foundation Grant aims to enhance health and well-being in Shelby County, Alabama. It prioritizes projects focusing on preventative healthcare, youth education, and substance abuse prevention. Nonprofits and governmental organizations are eligible, but multi-year grantees must wait before reapplying. The foundation encourages collaborative proposals and emphasizes the need for future funding plans. Overall, the foundation seeks impactful initiatives that contribute to the community's health and wellness.

The USGS is providing funding for a CESU partner to conduct critical research on the invasive brown treesnake in the Pacific Islands. This initiative aims to counteract the ecological and economic impacts caused by the species, which has severely affected native wildlife in Guam. The project will enhance military readiness and biosecurity through collaboration and training initiatives. With support from various federal entities, this research seeks to strengthen the understanding and management of brown treesnakes.

The CDC has collaborated with Ethiopia since 2001 to enhance the nation's capacity to meet International Health Regulations. This initiative has led to over 500 trained professionals in field epidemiology and the establishment of a national emergency operations center. By continuing to support workforce development, laboratory strengthening, and emergency response, CDC aims to bolster Ethiopia's public health infrastructure and ensure effective management of health emergencies through the Global Health Security Agenda.

HOME-American Rescue Plan (HOME-ARP)

Congress appropriated $5 billion in American Rescue Plan funds to be administered through the HOME Investment Partnerships Program (HOME) to address the need for homelessness assistance and supportive services. The State of Nebraska was allocated $14 million for the Balance of State. The HOME-American Rescue Plan or “HOME-ARP” was created to perform four activities that must primarily benefit qualifying populations. The funding is available through September 2030.

The Texas Longleaf Conservation Assistance Program offers financial and technical support to landowners in East Texas for establishing and managing Longleaf Pine. This initiative aims to restore the historical range of Longleaf Pine, which has diminished over time. Participants can receive assistance for practices like prescribed burning and reforestation, enhancing both ecological health and economic viability. The program fosters collaboration among federal, state, and local partners to promote sustainable forestry in the region.

The Shredder’s Studio Art Scholarship is designed to assist Nantucket High School graduates pursuing degrees in fine arts or art therapy. This fund aims to cover college tuition costs, ensuring students have the support they need to excel in various artistic disciplines including painting, sculpture, photography, and graphic design. By investing in the artistic development of local talent, the scholarship fosters creativity and innovation within the community.

The Recycling Assistance Grant Program, funded by a $1.00 fee on solid waste disposal in West Virginia, aims to support counties, municipalities, and other entities in establishing and enhancing recycling initiatives. Grants are available for feasibility studies, educational programs, and market procurement efforts. Public entities can receive up to $150,000, while private entities can secure a maximum of $75,000 to bolster their recycling programs and public awareness campaigns.

The Proposition 68: Rivers and Streams Grant Program aims to restore and protect vital river and stream ecosystems in the Klamath-Trinity Watershed. With a funding of at least $5 million, projects focus on enhancing habitats for salmon and steelhead through activities like reconnecting floodplains, restoring riparian areas, and improving fish passage. This initiative emphasizes ecological restoration and sustainable management practices to benefit both wildlife and local communities.

The Ocotillo Wind Imperial Valley Fund aims to enhance the quality of life for Imperial Valley communities through various programs. It focuses on priorities such as civic engagement, economic development, youth education, disaster recovery, and health and wellness. The fund is open to impactful proposals that demonstrate relevance, measurable outcomes, and collaboration among stakeholders. Eligible applicants include 501c3 organizations and public institutions that serve the region, ensuring projects address community needs without discrimination.

The OEPA Recycling and Litter Prevention Grants offer financial support to local governments and non-profits in Ohio for projects aimed at enhancing recycling efforts and reducing litter. Eligible initiatives include purchasing recycling equipment, organizing litter clean-up events, and educational outreach. Grants range from $25,000 to $200,000, depending on the project type, and are intended to foster community engagement and sustainable waste management practices. Applications must be submitted within a specified timeframe.
