This initiative aims to enhance educational pathways in STEM for diverse student groups.

Trauma System Development Grant

Purpose

The Indiana Department of Health’s Division of Trauma and Injury Prevention has been provided funding to support quality improvement projects and the ongoing development of the statewide trauma system. To aid in the implementation of trauma system projects, the Indiana Department of Health will fund the following strategies. Applicants must implement projects that target at least one strategy but can address multiple strategies if appropriate.

• Strategy 1: Trauma System Development
• Strategy 2: Quality Improvement
• Strategy 3: Trauma and Non-Trauma Center Engagement
• Strategy 4: Injury Prevention Programming

This request for application (RFA) is designed for all interested entities wishing to submit proposals for trauma system development under the core strategies outlined above. Funding decisions for all proposals submitted under this program will be made following a review process by the Indiana Trauma Care Commission (TCC) and IDOH.

Distinguished Contribution Award

The purpose of the Distinguished Contribution Award is to recognize the scientific contribution of a member who has conducted or promoted research, which has enhanced the science and practice of nursing in the MNRS region.

MNRS Distinguished Service Award

The Distinguished Service Award recognizes an MNRS member who has demonstrated sustained influential leadership and service to the organization, such as chairing committees, organizing annual conference activities, or serving on the Board of Directors. 

The ACT on Health Equity Community Solutions Challenge Grant, backed by the Astrazeneca Foundation, aims to enhance health equity by funding community-based nonprofit programs. Since its inception in 2021, it has allocated over $2.6 million to initiatives addressing nutrition, healthcare access, and lung health for historically marginalized populations. Eligible US-based 501(c) organizations can apply, with a focus on projects serving underserved communities and improving health outcomes through targeted support.

Community Foundation Serving Howard, Carroll & Clinton Counties: Lilly Endowment Scholarship

The primary purposes of the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program are

• to help raise the level of educational attainment in Indiana; 
• to increase awareness of the beneficial roles Indiana community foundations can play in their communities; and 
• to encourage and support the efforts of current and past Lilly Endowment Community Scholars to engage with each other and with Indiana business, governmental, educational, nonprofit and civic leaders to improve the quality of life in Indiana generally and in local communities throughout the state.

The program will provide scholarships for otherwise unreimbursed full tuition, required fees, and a special allocation of up to $900 per year for required books and required equipment for four years of undergraduate study on a full-time basis, leading to a baccalaureate degree at any Indiana public or private nonprofit college or university accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

Requirements

To pursue four years of undergraduate study on a full-time basis leading to a baccalaureate degree at an Indiana college. Keep the Community Foundation apprised of their academic status during college and post-graduation status (education and/or employment) for at least 10 years after graduation.

The Excellence in Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Award

The purpose of the Excellence in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Award is to recognize the contribution of a member who has demonstrated outstanding commitment and made significant contributions to advance equitable health outcomes and reduce health disparities through research, which has enhanced the science and practice of nursing in the MNRS region.  

Indiana Clinical & Translational Sciences Institute

The Indiana Clinical & Translational Sciences Institute (CTSI) has been at the forefront of translational research since 2008. From the lab bench to clinical trials and beyond, we help researchers move their scientific findings through the development pipeline.

Indiana Traumatic Spinal Cord & Brain Injury Research Grant

The overall objective of the Indiana Traumatic Spinal Cord & Brain Injury Research program is to foster and encourage research for the prevention, treatment and cure of spinal cord and traumatic brain injuries, including acute management, medical complications, rehabilitative techniques, and neuronal recovery. Collaborations are encouraged between Indiana-based researchers as well as with researchers located outside the state of Indiana. Salary support for collaborators outside of Indiana will be limited, however.

Priority will be given to:

• Researchers who are submitting revised applications from the 2021 RFA
• Junior investigators (within 5 years of their last training period at the time of submission)
• Researchers embarking on a new research direction
• Returning investigators whose prior awards have resulted in demonstrable movement along the translational spectrum (e.g. from in vitro to in vivo) and/or led to extramural research support
• Early commercialization research that is reasonably expected to lead to future funding (SBIR/STTR, private investment)

The Allen Whitehill Clowes Charitable Foundation provides grants to support charitable organizations dedicated to promoting and preserving the Arts and Humanities, particularly in Central Indiana. Grants can range from $1,000 to $1,000,000 for specific projects such as renovations or unique program offerings. Eligible applicants must be recognized as public charities under IRC Section 501(c)(3), while individual applications and endowments are not accepted. This foundation continues the legacy of Mr. Clowes by supporting similar initiatives.

The Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program aims to enhance educational attainment in Indiana by supporting talented students. This initiative provides full-tuition, fees, and book stipends for four years at accredited Indiana colleges. Eligibility requires a high school diploma from an accredited Indiana school, a minimum GPA of 3.5, and standardized test scores. With 147 scholarships awarded annually, this program fosters community engagement and encourages recipients to pursue careers in Indiana, thus improving local quality of life.

Cancer Center “Near-Miss” NIH R01 Initiative

The IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center is providing an opportunity to fund cancer focused PI-directed applications to the National Institutes of Health that have been reviewed once and missed the NIH pay line and have a high potential for obtaining external funding. The goal is to increase the cancer focused NIH funding base. Non-NCI targeted applications should have significant cancer relevance.

Investigators wishing to apply to this funding mechanism must first submit their project to the IU External Resubmission Grant opportunity for funding consideration. If the project is not funded at the University level, an investigator can submit the project to the Cancer Center’s Near-Miss initiative for funding consideration.

This initiative emphasizes innovative solutions and measurable outcomes, targeting both national and local programs, particularly in states with pressing health disparities.

Graduating high school seniors in Lake County, Indiana planning full-time undergraduate study at an accredited Indiana college can receive a Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship covering four years of tuition, required fees, and up to US $900 annually for books. Legacy Foundation supports higher education access, which may benefit students pursuing health-related degrees.

The Barney Family Scholarship, administered by the Crown Point Community Foundation, offers a $40,000 award ($5,000 per semester) to a graduating high school senior from Lake, Porter, Jasper, or Newton County. Eligible applicants must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA and attend an Indiana State-sponsored college or technical school, with family income between $80,000 and $150,000. The scholarship is renewable for up to eight semesters, encouraging academic success.

Cancer Center Community-Academic Collaborative Program Award

IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center, Office of Community Outreach and Engagement is inviting collaborative proposals for implementing evidence-based cancer related programs within the community. Proposals should address the cancer burden in Indiana. The program should include an evaluation component and priority will be given to projects targeting one of the major cancer burdens in Indiana, including lung, breast, colon, pancreas, prostate and cervical. We are particularly interested in initiatives that promote healthier behaviors linking to reducing cancer incidence and morbidity. Of particular interest are community-led programs that expand our reach and deepen our understanding of populations across Indiana. The project must be co-led by an Cancer Center faculty member and a community advocate or partner.

The duration of this funding is one year, and the budget should not exceed $15,000.

The Indiana 21st Century Community Learning Centers Out-of-School Time Program is designed to provide safe environments for youth during non-school hours. This federally-funded initiative supports public schools and community organizations in creating learning centers that enhance academic performance and offer diverse enrichment activities. Particularly focused on youth from low-performing schools, the program aims to boost educational outcomes and foster social and emotional growth, while also serving the families of participating youth.

The Indiana Climate and Democracy Catalyst Fund aims to empower frontline organizations in Indiana by enhancing their capacity to address climate and democracy challenges. Supported by local, state, and national funders, the initiative focuses on community-driven outcomes and storytelling to inspire further funding. This strategic collaboration seeks to uplift BIPOC-led, LGBTQ+ serving, and rural organizations, fostering an inclusive environment for all Indiana residents to thrive while advocating for environmental justice.

The IN Agricultural Conservation Easement Program (ACEP) offers financial and technical support to private landowners and Indian tribes for restoring and protecting wetlands through various easement options. These include permanent and 30-year easements, where NRCS covers most costs including easement values and restoration. Benefits include improved wildlife habitats, enhanced water quality, and resilience to climate change. This program is available year-round, ensuring ongoing support for eligible landowners.

The IN Agricultural Conservation Easement Program (ACEP): Agricultural Land Easements (ALE) offers financial assistance to partners for purchasing easements that protect agricultural lands. This program helps maintain the viability of working farms by preventing non-agricultural land use. Eligible partners include tribal and local governments, while benefits include enhanced environmental quality, wildlife habitat, and preservation of open spaces. NRCS prioritizes applications that maximize the protection of agricultural uses and contiguous acres.

The IN Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) offers financial and technical assistance to agricultural producers for implementing conservation practices. This program aims to enhance agricultural productivity while promoting environmental quality. Eligible participants, including socially disadvantaged farmers and Indian tribes, can benefit from various conservation activities, such as soil health improvement and water quality enhancement. EQIP prioritizes reducing pollution and soil erosion, making it a vital resource for sustainable agricultural development in Indiana.

The IN Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP) empowers agricultural producers to enhance their conservation efforts while improving their operations. Offering year-round applications, CSP provides technical and financial assistance for various goals, including improving grazing conditions and wildlife habitats. Key benefits include increased crop yields, reduced agricultural inputs, and enhanced resilience to environmental challenges. This program, managed by the USDA's Natural Resource Conservation Service of Indiana, supports sustainable farming practices that benefit both land and communities.

The Historic Preservation Fund Grant Program in Indiana supports projects aimed at preserving architectural and historical sites. Administered by the DNR Division of Historic Preservation & Archaeology, it offers matching grants ranging from $5,000 to $75,000 for eligible applicants. Projects must focus on sites listed in the National Register of Historic Places. This program not only funds rehabilitation but also promotes public education initiatives related to preservation efforts, significantly contributing to cultural resource management.

The Indiana Recycling Market Development Program (RMDP) aims to enhance recycling efforts by funding projects that promote waste reduction, reuse, and recycling. Established in the 1990s, it supports initiatives that increase recyclable material collection, lower municipal waste disposal, and improve community partnerships. Eligible applicants include businesses and local governments in Indiana, requiring a 50% cash match. The program excludes certain projects like waste-to-energy initiatives and construction costs, ensuring focused investment in sustainable waste management solutions.
