Human Trafficking Programming Competitive Grant

Program Purpose

The purpose of the program is to enhance or expand the anti-trafficking services offered by victim service organizations with a demonstrated history of providing services to victims of human trafficking. Funds awarded through this grant program shall enhance the scope of services offered by the organization that victims of labor and sex trafficking often require to address their needs. Allowable direct services and resources provided through these awards include:

• Individual and Group Support
• Emergency Intervention Services – Crisis Line and Emergency Response
• Advocacy and Supportive Services
• Housing, including temporary emergency housing and transitional supportive housing
• Counseling/Therapy
• Systems Change, community Education, and Public Awareness
• Legal services, including record expungement

The Great Lakes Protection Fund Grant aims to support projects that deliver significant ecological improvements to the Great Lakes region. The Fund seeks transformative initiatives that involve collaboration among diverse stakeholders and rely on scientific rigor. Eligible applicants include non-profits, universities, and businesses, and the projects must demonstrate a positive environmental impact on the Great Lakes ecosystem. Importantly, the Fund does not support advocacy or compliance-related activities.

With support from Toyota Motor North America, the National Environmental Education Foundation (NEEF) is pleased to announce $250,000 in grant funding to make public lands more accessible and enjoyable for people of all abilities. The 2026 grant program will focus on communities near Toyota Motor North America facilities and is restricted to 16 communities, as detailed below. 

Overview

Through the 2026 Driving Mobility and Accessibility on Public Lands grant, NEEF aims to:

• Increase the capacity of local organizations and government agencies to address mobility and accessibility considerations on public lands; and
• Improve the level of access, comfort, and enjoyment experienced by public lands visitors of all abilities, together with their families and friends.

The grant will provide up to $20,000 per grantee to increase physical or digital access, provide adaptive recreation equipment or programming, or perform accessibility assessments on public lands in communities near 16 Toyota Motor North America facilities.

Rhode Island Office of Energy Resources

The Rhode Island Office of Energy Resources’ (OER) mission is to lead the state toward a clean, affordable, reliable, and equitable energy future. OER develops policies and programs that respond to the state's evolving energy needs, while advancing environmental sustainability, energy security, and a vibrant clean energy economy. OER is committed to working with public- and private-sector stakeholders to ensure that all Rhode Islanders have access to cost-effective, resilient, and sustainable energy solutions.

Agricultural Energy Grant Program

The Rhode Island Office of Energy Resources (OER) and the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM) request Rhode Island Agricultural Operations to submit applications seeking funding for energy projects in an effort to improve energy efficiency, promote renewable energy, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. 

The following clean energy investments and technologies will be considered eligible for this program, so long as each proposed project meets all program requirements.

• Renewable Energy: Photovoltaics (PV); Small Scale Wind; Biomass; Energy Storage
• Energy Efficiency: Envelope Insulation; LED Lighting; HVAC Systems (especially heat pump technologies); Automatic Temperature Controls; Variable Speed Motors, Drives, & Pumps; Solar Thermal

The North Central Branch John Henry Comstock Award recognizes one graduate student from each of the Entomological Society of America's six branches. This award promotes graduate-level entomology and encourages attendance at the ESA Annual Meeting. Benefits include an all-expense-paid trip to the national meeting, a $500 cash prize, and a certificate presented during the meeting. Eligibility includes current enrollment in a graduate entomology program or recent graduation.

The Cleveland-Cliffs Foundation, established in 1962, focuses on enhancing educational opportunities, environmental protection, and community health in the regions it operates. As a leading steel manufacturer, Cleveland-Cliffs is committed to sustainability and responsible corporate citizenship. The foundation supports 501(c)(3) organizations that address key challenges in education, the environment, and community well-being, ensuring impactful investments that help communities thrive across North America.

The Gauthier Family Fund Scholarship, established by Barbara Gauthier in 1998, supports high school graduates from the Tri-Cities area pursuing mechanical or electrical engineering studies at Michigan Technological University. Funded by the Grand Haven Area Community Foundation, this scholarship emphasizes academic achievement and financial need, ensuring deserving students receive the educational assistance they need to succeed in engineering fields.

The Scherman Foundation's Democracy Program champions the empowerment of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities. It focuses on enhancing civic engagement, safeguarding voting rights, and reforming democratic processes to ensure inclusivity and accountability. By supporting locally-rooted organizations in key states, the foundation aims to build a more equitable democracy where diverse voices are heard and political power is reclaimed by those historically marginalized. This program is pivotal for advancing racial justice and fostering systemic change.

The Michigan Health Endowment Fund is offering a Behavioral Health RFP aimed at improving access to high-quality mental health and substance use disorder care for Michigan residents, particularly children and older adults. Grants ranging from $50,000 to $500,000 are available to nonprofits and government entities that align with health equity and innovative care delivery models. Priority is given to projects that enhance collaboration, utilize technology, and address behavioral health needs of vulnerable populations.

GYO Grant

The Michigan Department of Education (MDE) is continuing the Future Proud Michigan Educator (Future PME) initiative with a grant opportunity for districts to develop Grow Your Own (GYO) partnerships to support non-certificated K-12 school personnel in earning teacher certification. This grant is an extension of Michigan’s efforts to grow and diversify the educator workforce and reduce educator shortages through the Future PME initiative.

The GYO Staff grants support partnerships between PK-12 schools and educator preparation providers to develop pathways for school support staff to earn initial teacher certification or for certified teachers to earn additional endorsements.

GYO programs funded via the state budget are an extension of Michigan's efforts to grow and diversify the educator workforce and reduce educator shortages.

In high quality GYO programs, both partners commit to wrap-around support of candidates through shared mentorship, coaching, observation, and assessment of emerging teachers from the beginning of teacher preparation coursework through the first years of their service as certified teachers. The Kailey Elizabeth Jordan Memorial Fund honors a vibrant young life lost too soon. Established to support accredited Michigan horse camps, it provides therapeutic horseback riding opportunities for disabled or terminally ill children aged 16 and under. This initiative not only celebrates Kailey's passions but also aims to enrich the lives of children facing challenges, fostering joy and healing through the bond with horses.

Individuals in Michigan diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) can receive support to improve comfort, care, and daily living needs through the Ryan Jones Memorial Fund. Shiawassee Community Foundation administers this fund, which may help educators and others with ALS in Michigan manage quality-of-life challenges.

Capacity building grants

The Capacity Building grant program assists health-focused, community-based organizations in becoming stronger, more effective institutions within their community, allowing them to spend more time and energy focused on their missions. Grants also support collaborative efforts among providers, service agencies, and community-based organizations to cooperatively and sustainably address health issues.

The Health Fund makes grants of up to $300,000 for both organizational and collaborative capacity building projects for health-focused organizations that support children and older adults, or that are aligned with our priority areas. 

Undergraduate history majors and minors in Michigan can receive $50 - $500 to support scholarly and professional development activities, including research, internships, volunteer work, or conference travel. Grants from Western Michigan University may benefit teachers-in-training and future educators seeking continuing education experiences in history-related fields.

The History Internship Scholarship at Western Michigan University supports exceptional history and public history students undertaking internships. This scholarship helps cover relocation costs for students required to move temporarily for their internships. Applicants must provide a resume, transcript, project description, budget proposal, and faculty mentor support. The application deadline is March 15, and the scholarship amount varies. Interested students should submit their applications to the department chair.

Experience Support Grant Program

The Experience Support grant program provides arts and culture-related project funding to Michigan organizations for which arts and culture is not the primary focus of the organization’s mission. Eligible applicants include municipalities, tribal entities, PreK-12 schools, colleges/universities, and non-arts/culture 501(c)(3) nonprofits. Applicants can submit one grant application to request funding in any/all of these categories: Project Support, Facility Enhancement & Equipment Purchase, Professional/Organizational Development and Transportation.

Field Trips

Field trip funding is designed to assist organizations that have a need to transport participants in “field trip” style events to engage in arts and cultural programming/services/activities. The transportation costs may be associated with both in-state and out-of-state travel. The transportation funding may be related to (or may be separate from) any other project applied for within this Experience Support grant application.

The funding may be used in one (or both) of the following ways:

• Transporting a group of participants to the applicant’s venue to participate in the applicant’s arts and cultural programming/services/activities.
• Transporting a group of the applicant’s participants to a different organization’s venue to participate in arts and cultural programming/services/activities.

Eligible applicants include municipalities, tribal entities, PreK-12 schools, colleges/universities, and non-arts/culture 501(c)(3) nonprofits. Professional & Organizational Development

Professional/Organizational Development funding is designed to assist an organization in providing arts and culture-related educational opportunities that increase the knowledge and skills of the organization’s personnel. Only staff members, contracted employees, board members, and/or volunteers may be selected to participate in the organization’s Professional/Organizational Development request.

• Allowable Expenses:
  • Registration fees directly related to an in-person or virtual professional development opportunity including conferences, training, or certification
  • Consultant fees directly related to organizational development opportunities including strategic planning, coalition building, fundraising planning, needs assessment, grant writing, and board governance
  • Travel (in OR out-of-state) including meals and lodging
  • Materials directly related to the professional development opportunity

The Mackenzie L. Watts Memorial Fund, established by the Shiawassee Community Foundation, honors the legacy of a young athlete who tragically passed away in 2005. This fund focuses on enhancing heart health and emergency preparedness in Michigan. By providing essential cardiac-related equipment and programs to nonprofit organizations, it aims to improve emergency response capabilities and save lives through increased access to vital resources, ensuring that Mackenzie's spirit continues to inspire and protect her community.

Detective LaVern S. Brann Scholarship Fund

The Detective LaVern S. Brann Scholarship was established in loving memory of Detective Brann by his family. The purpose is to provide scholarships to individuals who are considered a minority by race or representation in the police officer profession.

The scholarship will be available for graduates (non-traditional students) or graduating high school seniors from the Battle Creek area who are seeking educational opportunities in the Kellogg Community College Police Academy in order to become a police officer. The Battle Creek area is defined as residents or schools providing diplomas or other graduate equivalency in the townships of Pennfield, Emmett, Bedford and the Cities of Springfield and Battle Creek.

Experience Support Grant Program

The Experience Support grant program provides arts and culture-related project funding to Michigan organizations for which arts and culture is not the primary focus of the organization’s mission. Eligible applicants include municipalities, tribal entities, PreK-12 schools, colleges/universities, and non-arts/culture 501(c)(3) nonprofits. Applicants can submit one grant application to request funding in any/all of these categories: Project Support, Facility Enhancement & Equipment Purchase, Professional/Organizational Development and Transportation.

Facility Improvement & Equipment

Facility Improvement & Equipment funding is designed to assist organizations with both facility improvements and/or the purchase of equipment related to the arts and culture programming, services, and/or activities the organization provides to its audiences and communities. Organizations may request any combination of facility improvement and/or equipment needs up to the maximum request amount. Organizations applying for Facility Improvement needs must have proof of ownership of the building or evidence of a long-term lease.

• Allowable Expenses:
  • Expansion, renovation, or construction of applicant-owned cultural facilities
  • Facility structure or system maintenance of applicant-owned cultural facilities
  • Feasibility studies, architectural drawings/fees, and design fees
  • Construction and project management costs
  • Purchase of equipment directly related to the organization’s arts/cultural production 

Experience Support Grant Program

The Experience Support grant program provides arts and culture-related project funding to Michigan organizations for which arts and culture is not the primary focus of the organization’s mission. Eligible applicants include municipalities, tribal entities, PreK-12 schools, colleges/universities, and non-arts/culture 501(c)(3) nonprofits. Applicants can submit one grant application to request funding in any/all of these categories: Project Support, Facility Enhancement & Equipment Purchase, Professional/Organizational Development and Field Trips.

Project Support

Project Support funding is designed to support the production, presentation, and creation of arts and culture experiences for Michigan communities. Projects may range anywhere from a single, one-day event to a program that takes place over the entire grant period. Experience opportunities resulting from grant funds must be open to the public. Grant funds can only be used for the specific arts and culture related project that is awarded (cannot be used for any of the organization’s non-arts and culture-related programs).

• Allowable Expenses:
  • Fees related to hiring artists and/or culture bearers such as wages, honoraria, and residencies
  • In-state travel expenses including transportation of equipment and lodging for artists/culture bearers
  • Staff time directly related to the project
  • Production supplies
  • Marketing expenses
  • Fees related to renting a facility for the project

The CSA Midwest Region: Otto Thieme Memorial Internship provides a unique opportunity for students to engage in a hands-on curatorial experience with costume collections at Midwestern museums, historical societies, or universities. Awarded a $2000 stipend for an eight-week internship, students will gain valuable mentorship and training in the field of costume. This program honors Otto Charles Thieme, an influential figure in costume scholarship, enhancing students' academic pursuits while fostering appreciation for historic costumes.

The WMU Department of History offers a renewable $1,000 History Fellowship Award for newly admitted full-time freshman students majoring in history or related fields. Applicants must have a minimum 3.5 high school GPA and maintain the same GPA while enrolled. The fellowship is renewable for up to four years, ensuring continued support for students who maintain their academic standing. Applications are due by March 15, and underrepresented groups are particularly encouraged to apply.

The Marine Safety Grants (MI) program, funded by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, aims to enhance safety in recreational watercraft use through law enforcement and educational initiatives. These grants support county sheriff departments in Michigan, based on factors such as public water patrol areas and the effectiveness of boating safety programs. Funding can cover up to 75% of state expenditures or 100% of federal costs, ensuring communities have the resources needed for marine safety.

The Recreation Passport Grants (MI) program provides financial support for local units to develop and renovate public recreation facilities. The initiative focuses on upgrading older facilities that are no longer functional, requiring a minimum of 25% matching funds from applicants. Grants range from $7,500 to $150,000, facilitating significant enhancements to community recreation options.

The NCAA Division II Degree Completion Award provides financial assistance to student-athletes who have exhausted their athletics eligibility, enabling them to complete their first undergraduate degree. Since its inception in 2001, nearly $9 million has supported approximately 1,875 athletes, with a remarkable 90 percent graduation rate among recipients. The award covers tuition costs up to $15,000 for remaining credits and may be used in the summer term or short terms surrounding the final undergraduate year.

The WMU Department of History offers the History Alumni Travel Award to support undergraduate history majors and minors in their scholarly pursuits outside the classroom. This award is designed to fund research, internships, volunteer experiences, and travel to scholarly conferences. The grant amount varies, and applications are due by March 15. Interested students should submit their applications to the department chair to take advantage of this opportunity.
