Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation Inc

The Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation is the only nonprofit charity organization dedicated to ending mesothelioma, and the suffering caused by this cancer, by:

• funding research to improve treatment options;
• providing treatment support and education for patients and their families;
• and advocating for federal funding of research.

The mission of the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation spans across four distinct areas: through research, education, support, and advocacy the Foundation seeks to eradicate the vicious effects of mesothelioma. Led by the Board of Directors, our team works collaboratively to develop and administer our programs, and to fundraise to pay for those programs (the Foundation is funded by private individual and corporate contributions only — it does not receive any government funding).

Bret A. Rosenthal Patient Assistance Fund

Patients diagnosed with cancer at a younger age often face greater financial burdens. This is a time in a patient’s life when they are raising a family, starting a career, or have not accumulated savings. For patients 49 and under, the Foundation administers the Bret A. Rosenthal Patient Assistance Fund grant program. This program is made possible by the generosity of the Rosenthal family.

American Cancer Society

The mission of the American Cancer Society is to improve the lives of people with cancer and their families through advocacy, research, and patient support, to ensure everyone has an opportunity to prevent, detect, treat, and survive cancer.

ACS Research Priority Areas

The American Cancer Society (ACS) has identified these 6 areas to categorize and track the research we fund to help advance our mission. Applicants (except Institutional Research Grants and Professor grants) are asked to select at least 1 of these research areas that aligns with their proposal:

Research Scholar Grants

Research Scholar Grants (RSG) provide support for independent, self-directed researchers.

Applicants' institutions must provide space and other resources customary for independent investigators.

Grant proposals are investigator-initiated and may pursue questions across the cancer research continuum, as long as they fit within an American Cancer Society (ACS) priority research area.

These grants typically contribute to the cost of salaries, consumable supplies, and other miscellaneous items required in the research. 

Research Scholar Grants are funded up to $215,000 per year (direct costs), plus 10% allowable indirect costs, with a project period up to four years.

Broad Street Children's Foundation supports self-sustaining children's homes across the United States that actively foster the development of strong, well-rounded children in their care.

Since the start of the Foundation, over $1,000,000.00 in grants have been donated to children's homes across the country. Additionally, through the Bill and Jackie Hazelgrove Scholarship Program, we have been able to assist a number of young people to continue their education and work towards a college or vocational degree.

Today, the Broad Street Children's Foundation is continuing the dream of it's original founders through the second generation. Equally as dedicated to changing the lives of children in need across America and striving to break the cycle of abuse and neglect for other children and their families.

About

Originally conceived by Dr Bruce Mesara in 1990 as a means to carry on his philanthropic efforts beyond his lifetime, the Mesara Family Foundation was re-envisioned by his two children Amy and Douglas in 2014, and received their 501(c)(3) status from the IRS in 2015. Amy and Douglas sought out the assistance of their cousins to build upon the charitable principals on their parents, aunts and uncles.

The foundation is headquartered in Kalamazoo Michigan.

Mission

The mission of the Mesara Family Foundation is to honor the philanthropic principles of the Mesara and Pauch families by supporting carefully selected organizations that share similar values. Our focus is to provide support toward education, conservation and other causes of special family interest where our funding will make a genuine difference.

The general scope and purpose of the grant program is to provide funding to presenting organizations to enable them to present artists from other communities in the state. The program provides a means of sharing resources with areas of the state which have limited access to arts programming. Level of support provided ranges from 25 to 35 percent of the artists' fees. Artists must be selected from an approved roster, thereby guaranteeing artistic quality.General Terms and Conditions of the Grant:(a) Applicant organizations sign a contract for services obligating them to present the artists in public performance. Artists presented must be from communities at least 40 miles from the applicant organization.

(b) All programs/services must be conducted in compliance with applicable state and federal regulations regarding nondiscrimination and fair labor standards. Specifically, they must comply with provisions of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended, and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, and the provisions of Labor Standards under Section 5(j) of the National Foundation for the Arts and Humanities Act of 1965, as amended. Grantees also must not discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation.

(c) Grantees must maintain complete financial records for all activities covered by the contract and provide a final report at the end of the project detailing all expenditures and describing the programs/ services provided to the citizens of the state. Ten percent of the grant funds awarded are withheld until this report has been received and approved.

(d) Grantees must provide credit to the Georgia Council for the Arts in all publicity materials. This credit is to be provided in the form of the use of a camera-ready logo provided by the GCA, or by presenting the following statement: "This program is supported in part by the Georgia Council for the Arts through the appropriations of the Georgia General Assembly."

The State of Georgia has made funding available statewide for qualified sponsors to operate a stable housing accountability program meeting the conditions outlined in Official Code of Georgia Annotated § 8-3-301, § 8-3-310, and§ 8-3-311. Stable housing accountability program funds will be awarded on a competitive basis to qualified sponsors that demonstrate an ability to provide voluntary, immediate, and stable housing to program participants.This opportunity is intended to provide funding to non-profit, for-profit and governmental entities who operate a program designed to provide voluntary, immediate and stable housing to program participants for no longer than eighteen (18) months or whenever the participant is able to obtain or is offered stable affordable housing, whichever occurs first.

KBF Ski Racing Safety

The KBF helps alpine ski clubs around the country purchase safety equipment like netting and padding, and also contributes to venue improvement initiatives. Funding requests are reviewed through an annual grant cycle with an application process. Over the past decade, the Kelly Brush Foundation has purchased thousands of rolls of b-netting, supported trail widening projects, and helped with the purchase of other safety equipment. 

KBF Ski Racing Safety Equipment Grants are all matching grants–meaning that any grant awarded by the Kelly Brush Foundation will need to be matched by the ski club. We expect that clubs will join us in making safety a priority by fundraising or finding room in their budget for safety.
