Funding for SRTS infrastructure grants is sourced from Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) funds which are allocated statewide on an annual basis. FDOT encourages communities with SRTS needs to apply for a Florida Safe Routes to School grant. The goal of the grant is to fund projects that will increase the number of students walking and biking to school by addressing gaps in pedestrian and bicyclist infrastructure and/or safety concerns within a two-mile radius of the applicant school.
