• Grantee must offer at least one PLTW Biomedical Science course in the 2027-2028 academic year and must offer one additional different course in the 2028-2029 academic year (two different courses in two years).
• Grantee may implement any PLTW Biomedical Science courses of their choosing.
• Grantee must complete two years of reporting.

The RISE HIGH Growth Grant, offered by Neighborhood Allies, supports organizations in the Pittsburgh area to enhance equity and inclusion. With a total funding of $15,000 per grant, there are up to 19 grants available in this cycle. PLTW Engineering

PLTW Engineering students adopt a problem-solving mindset, are engaged in compelling, real-world challenges that help them become better collaborators and thinkers, and are prepared with skills to step into any career path they take. Each PLTW Engineering course engages students in interdisciplinary activities like working with a client to design a home, programming electronic devices or robotic arms, or exploring algae as a biofuel source. These activities not only build knowledge and skills in engineering, but also empower students to develop essential skills such as problem solving, critical and creative thinking, communication, collaboration, and perseverance.

PLTW Engineering - Program Expansion (Haemonetics)

Haemonetics is a global medical technology company dedicated to improving the quality, effectiveness and efficiency of health care. Haemonetics strives to make a positive difference in their communities. They support PLTW in order to help foster innovation and career readiness in the communities they serve. 

Through this partnership, Haemonetics is supporting PLTW grants to schools interested in starting and expanding PLTW programs beginning in the 2027-2028 academic year.

The DSF Charitable Foundation offers an Education Grant aimed at supporting projects in education within Southwestern Pennsylvania. Grants are considered three times a year, with inquiries accepted at any time. Organizations must provide a letter of inquiry along with supporting documents, including proof of 501(c)(3) status. Notably, there are restrictions on applying for funding within two years of a declined request or the end of a previous grant period.

The Laurel Foundation Grant focuses on supporting organizations in Pittsburgh and southwestern Pennsylvania that are tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3). Between July 1, 2018, and June 30, 2019, it distributed $1,510,000 to 55 organizations across various fields, including Arts & Culture, Education, Environment, and Public Benefit. The Foundation emphasizes long-term benefits, fiscal responsibility, and measurable outcomes, while not funding individuals or programs outside its specified geographic area.

The Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank Impact Grants provide essential funding to organizations facing barriers in delivering food assistance. These small grants, typically ranging from $1,500 for child nutrition programs to $7,500 for agency partners, aim to enhance capacity and improve service delivery. By addressing specific needs, such as equipment or facility repairs, these grants create significant and lasting impacts on food security in the community.

The Raymond C. and Martha S. Suckling Fund Grant, established by the late philanthropist Raymond Suckling, provides annual funding of $500,000 to support programs that uplift low-income residents in Sewickley and nearby areas. Through the Pittsburgh Foundation, grants typically range from $25,000 to $75,000, with the potential for multi-year funding up to $150,000. PLTW Gateway (6-8) opens paths that create meaningful futures. It connects students to careers in areas they can, and can't, imagine. Through explorations of skilled trades, coding and robotics, flight and space, human body systems, and more, PLTW Gateway fuels students’ passion for discovery. As they engage in hands-on, collaborative problem solving focused on real-world challenges, students use and stretch their imaginations in brand-new ways that connect their learning to life. All the while, students step into roles spanning the career landscape—a crucial experience during this transitional time in their lives, long before they enter their degreed or skilled trade professions.

BASF Corporation, a leading chemical company based in Florham Park, New Jersey, is committed to charitable giving that aligns with its corporate social responsibility goals. The focus areas include science education, environmental sustainability, and health and safety. Donations are only made to eligible non-profit organizations under the U.S. Internal Revenue Code, ensuring that contributions support initiatives that enhance the quality of life in BASF communities and promote a sustainable future.

The Beaver County Foundation Grant provides funding for innovative projects that address community needs in Beaver County. With over 70 funds available, the Acorn Fund typically awards grants up to $4,000 annually to non-profits and governmental units for capital items or seed money for new initiatives. The Foundation prioritizes matching grant opportunities and encourages proposals that benefit the community, especially in health, education, and cultural sectors.

Grantmaking

Traditional Grants

Duquesne Light’s Traditional Grants program provides funding to nonprofit organizations with annual operating budgets over $500,000 that are working to improve the quality of life for residents within our service territory. Grants support programs aligned with one of two focus areas: Basic Needs and Workforce Development.

The Elsie H. Hillman Foundation Grant aims to enhance the quality of life in southwestern Pennsylvania by focusing on community empowerment and support for underrepresented groups. Established in 2006, the Foundation promotes equity and civic engagement among women, minorities, and LGBTQ+ residents. It provides funding for programs that foster dialogue, health initiatives, and cultural revitalization, while prioritizing organizations that align with its mission and operate within the Pittsburgh region.

Ellwood City Community Health Foundation Grant

The Ellwood City Community Health Foundation will issue funds each year to entities that are listed as a public charity by the Internal Revenue Service or classified as Section 501 (c)(3), IRC Section 170 (c)(1) or (2) under the Internal Revenue Code. The request needs to demonstrate that the funds will be used to improve access to healthcare and/or improve community health and well-being for residents of either Ellwood City, Lawrence County, or Beaver County, Pennsylvania. 

The Foundation will consider applications for programs that support public health including pregnancy programs, prevention, drug and alcohol programs, environmental programs that would promote healthy living, senior transportation, and programs for victims of family and child abuse.

The Henry John Simonds Foundation Grant supports community-driven solutions in Pittsburgh, PA, focusing on education, the arts, and community development. Grant applications are accepted year-round, with deadlines on January 5 for the June cycle and July 1 for the November cycle. The Foundation prioritizes tax-exempt organizations classified as public charities and aims to foster a sustainable future while enhancing citizens' quality of life through meaningful collaborations.

The FISA Foundation Grant supports initiatives aimed at improving the health and well-being of people with disabilities, particularly women and girls. Priorities include enhancing access to healthcare, addressing biases in the system, and preventing violence against vulnerable populations. The foundation emphasizes projects with clear outcomes and realistic evaluation plans, focusing on marginalized groups, especially those facing systemic barriers. Eligible organizations must operate within southwestern Pennsylvania and benefit women, girls, or people with disabilities.

The Albert B. Craig, Jr. Award for Innovation in Behavioral Health honors individuals who inspire fresh thinking and innovative solutions in the field of behavioral health. Established in memory of Dr. Albert B. Craig, Jr., this award recognizes contributions that improve lives through unique partnerships or novel approaches, including products or processes that alleviate mental illness or addiction. Recipients are not limited to Southwestern Pennsylvania, but their work must benefit individuals in the region.

The Staunton Farm Foundation Grant aims to enhance the lives of individuals facing mental health and substance use challenges in southwestern Pennsylvania. By supporting evidence-based practices and collaborations among stakeholders, the foundation seeks to eliminate stigma and improve treatment outcomes. Priority areas include innovation, advocacy, and public communication to foster understanding and acceptance of behavioral health issues. This initiative focuses on measurable impacts and sustainable community partnerships to drive positive change.

The Colcom Foundation Grant focuses on enhancing local environmental and community projects in southwestern Pennsylvania. It supports initiatives in advocacy, land conservation, and community development to improve quality of life and promote ecological sustainability. Eligible projects may include arts and culture, health services, and environmental education, reflecting the Foundation's commitment to regional heritage and stewardship. This grant represents an opportunity for organizations to engage in meaningful work that addresses pressing community and environmental needs.

About PLTW Computer SciencePLTW Computer Science students are technology trailblazers who are empowered through transportable skills and prepared to start their career, whether that is in computer science or not.Through this partnership, Haemonetics is supporting PLTW grants to schools interested in starting and expanding PLTW programs beginning in the 2027-2028 academic year.Program Requirements:

• Grantee must use their grant funds to expand their existing PLTW Computer Science program.
  • Example expansion activities include but are not limited to adding an additional PLTW Computer Science course not previously offered,
  • and/or adding additional class periods of an existing PLTW Computer Science courses previously offered,
  • and/or training additional teachers in PLTW Computer Science courses for the 2027-2028 academic year.
• Grantee must complete one year of Grant reporting.

This initiative provides funding for projects that diversify local economies, enhance job training, and create new employment opportunities. By fostering collaboration among various stakeholders, the POWER Initiative supports strategic investments that align with regional economic development plans, ensuring a more resilient future for coal-affected areas.

The Audrey Hillman Fisher Foundation Grant aims to enhance health and healing for communities through investments in the arts, education, human services, and environmental initiatives. With a focus on Pittsburgh, PA, Santa Barbara, CA, and Squam Lakes, NH, the foundation accepts grant applications year-round, with deadlines of January 5 for June funding and July 1 for November funding. The foundation prioritizes projects from new organizations within these regions.
