Each year, California’s Credit Unions and Nevada’s Credit Unions honor distinguished industry leaders and volunteers during the Leagues’ REACH Conference. 

J. Alvin George Outstanding Volunteer Award

This award honors significant contributions by people who serve credit unions in volunteer capacities, such as a director or committee member. It was renamed in 2013 in honor of the long-time credit union volunteer, J. Alvin George, who passed away that same year.

In just one application, our Common Scholarship Application provides students access to more than 150 scholarship opportunities with awards ranging from $1,000 to more than $5,000.

In 2025, San Diego Foundation awarded a record-breaking $5.5 million in scholarships to nearly 1,400 students.

Witt Matheny Scholarship

Plan to enroll full-time at an accredited community college or licensed career/technical school in California in fall.

Depending on the scholarship, it may pay for tuition, room and board, books, fees and/or other related educational expenses. This will be outlined in your award notification.

The Floating Restroom Grant Program, coordinated by the California Department of Boating and Waterways, aims to enhance recreational boating by providing floating restroom units at lakes and reservoirs statewide. This initiative, rooted in the Clean Vessel Act, ensures the preservation of water quality by preventing sewage discharge. Eligible government entities can access funding for the development and maintenance of these restrooms, which must be kept operational for at least ten years, thus supporting both public health and environmental integrity.

The Bachelor of Science Nursing Scholarship Program, managed by the California Department of Health Care Access and Information (HCAI), aims to enhance California's healthcare workforce. Funded by a surcharge on RN licensure fees, it offers up to $10,000 to eligible nursing students in exchange for a 12-month service obligation in underserved communities. This initiative seeks to ensure a sufficient number of trained Registered Nurses provide essential care where it is most needed.

The Nationwide Fishing Trap Removal, Assessment, and Prevention (TRAP) Program aims to eliminate derelict fishing traps nationwide. Focused on collaboration, it emphasizes standardized data collection, quantifying impacts, and comprehensive data sharing. With an annual budget of up to $1,475,000, the program supports 6 to 15 projects, providing grants ranging from $50,000 to $200,000 for 18-month initiatives. This effort significantly enhances marine resource conservation by reducing bycatch mortality and removing abandoned traps.

The Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP) offers support to agricultural producers in enhancing their conservation efforts across the United States. It provides technical and financial assistance to improve grazing conditions, crop resiliency, and wildlife habitat. CSP participants implement tailored conservation plans that promote cleaner water, healthier soil, and improved wildlife habitats. The program also ensures annual payments for implementing practices and incentivizes additional enhancements, making it a vital resource for sustainable agricultural practices.

The FFY 2024 State & Local Cybersecurity Grant aims to aid local governments and federally recognized tribes in enhancing cybersecurity measures. By addressing risks to information systems and critical infrastructure, the program seeks to improve resilience and operational continuity. Funded through the IIJA, the grant focuses on governance, assessment, mitigation, and workforce development, ensuring that organizations are equipped to respond effectively to cybersecurity challenges and threats in their communities.

The California Library Literacy Services grant offers funding to public libraries in California to develop adult literacy programs. This initiative aims to enhance literacy levels among adults, enabling them to achieve personal and professional goals. Libraries participating in this program will receive annual funds to support continuous literacy efforts, fostering a more literate community. The grant is aimed at addressing the urgent need for adult literacy improvement across the state.

The Food and Agricultural Sciences National Needs Graduate and Postgraduate Fellowships program, managed by the USDA's NIFA, aims to enhance the training of new graduate students in food and agricultural sciences. The 2025-26 Start-Up Subgrant aims to support the development and initial operations of new and conversion charter schools in California. Tribal Capacity Building Program

The Tribal Capacity Building Program's key objectives are to:

Build Tribal Staff Capacity to Advance and Sustain Climate and Housing Action; Secure Funding to Develop and Implement Tribal-led Climate and Housing Projects; Enhance Peer Learning Relationships Among Tribes

Description:

The Tribal Capacity Building Program provides funding and technical assistance to California Native American Tribes, enhancing staff capacity to advance Tribes’ climate- and housing-related work. The goal of the program is to help Tribes develop long-term capacity to secure funding and implement Tribal-led climate- and housing-related projects. 

Funding Available for Round 2 Awards:

Grantees may receive funding between $350,000 and $420,000 total for the three-year grant term.

The CHFFA: Tax-Exempt Equipment Financing Program provides California health facilities with access to tax-exempt, fixed-rate financing for equipment purchases exceeding $500,000. The Division of Boating and Waterways offers the Boat Launching Facility Grant Program to local agencies in California, aimed at developing and improving public boat launching facilities for motorized vessels. The program funds construction and enhancement of ramps, restrooms, parking, and other necessary infrastructure to ensure better access to California's waterways for recreational boating. Applications are accepted until February 1, 2025, and are open to various local government entities.

The Student Collections Study Award, offered by the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, provides funding for undergraduate and graduate students to visit and study museum collections. Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited degree program and can include international students. Preference is given to proposals that demonstrate the significance of NHM collections in the research and contribute to enhancing these collections. By partnering with local organizations, the program focuses on empowering individuals and communities, ensuring they receive appropriate care without fear. It also supports research, collaboratives, and initiatives to build a diverse workforce and influence policies that promote equitable healthcare access, especially for marginalized groups. This program is committed to systemic change with racial equity at its core.

The Division of Boating and Waterways Local Assistance Statewide Sign Grant Program FY26 offers funding for the installation and replacement of signs for previously funded projects. This initiative aims to ensure that signs are up-to-date, safe, and compliant with federal requirements. Grants support the improvement of public access to California's waterways, enhancing safety and user experience for the boating community. Applications are accepted until February 2, 2026, encouraging local agencies to participate in this vital program.

The Full Community-Partnered Participatory Research Award (Full CPPRA) supports research targeting tobacco-related health disparities through community-academic partnerships. With a maximum award of $600,000 per year for up to three years, this funding encourages the development and testing of tobacco prevention interventions. Applicants must include both a Community Co-PI and an Academic Co-PI from California-based institutions, fostering collaboration to enhance research efficacy and community impact.

The Division of Boating and Waterways offers a Local Assistance Grant Program for the development of non-motorized boat launching facilities in California. Eligible applicants must own or control the project area and commit to operating and maintaining the facility for 20 years. Eligible applicants include cities, towns, districts, and Native American tribal governments serving populations under 20,000. The program offers low-interest loans and grants to ensure access to safe and reliable wastewater treatment solutions, focusing on sustainable practices and compliance with state regulations.

The State Fiscal Year (SFY) 2025-28 CDSS Removal Defense Grant aims to provide essential legal services to immigrants facing removal proceedings. Funded by the California Department of Social Services, this grant supports qualified nonprofit organizations in delivering these critical services. Eligible applicants must demonstrate capacity, staff qualifications, and organizational oversight to effectively manage the funding and expand their removal defense services.
