Maria Mychaniuk Kiwanis Scholarship

The Maria Mychaniuk Scholarship is dedicated in memory of a quiet, dignified member of the Flagler County community. Ms Mychaniuk believed that students who have a sincere desire to succeed by furthering their education needed to be assisted in doing so and requested that the focus of this scholarship would be to provide an opportunity to those students that may have difficulty qualifying for other awards.

She was a firm believer in community service and in such, asked the Kiwanis Club of Flagler County, through the Florida Kiwanis Foundation, to select a worthy student whose principles of community awareness, service, and commitment to making the area a better place to live would benefit by her generosity. On behalf of Maria Mychaniuk, the Kiwanis Club of Flagler County and The Florida Kiwanis Foundation are pleased to offer this scholarship.

George & Ann Langguth Scholarship

George Langguth joined Kiwanis in 1967. He served as a Distinguished President in 3 clubs and as a Distinguished Lieutenant Governor in 1973-74. He served as Key Club District Administrator of the Wisconsin-Upper Michigan District from 1974-1981. He was a member of Kiwanis International’s professional staff, serving as Director of Key Club International programs from 1981-1988 in Chicago, Illinois and Indianapolis, Indiana. He has received the highest honor Key Club can bestow on an individual in 8 Districts in North America.

On February 1, 1988, he became Florida District Secretary and held the position of District Secretary and Executive Director for 24 years, longer than anyone in Florida District history. During his tenure, George coordinated all Florida District Conferences and Conventions and provided guidance and support to the District’s 300+ clubs. He is widely recognized as one of the most knowledgeable authorities on Kiwanis history and administration.

Langguth has been Distinguished District Secretary numerous times. He holds life membership in Kiwanis International and the Florida District of Kiwanis. He is a Ralph Davis Fellow of the Florida Kiwanis Foundation. He holds a Tablet of Honor, a Diamond Level 15 George F. Hixson medal, and he is also a member of the Kiwanis International Legacy Society. In his 46 years of Kiwanis membership, he has personally sponsored over 300 men and women into Kiwanis clubs to which he has belonged.

He married his wife, Ann, in 1971. He and Ann have a son, Michael, and a daughter, Kathryn. Ann served as the Florida Kiwanis Administrative Secretary alongside George for 20 years. She holds numerous Kiwanis and Kiwanis Foundation honors.

The Brooks and Joan Fortune Family Foundation Grant supports educational, artistic, and outreach initiatives. The Water Buffalo Club: We Benefit Children Grant supports underserved and at-risk children in Los Angeles County. General Operating Support Grant Overview

The Perenchio Foundation is dedicated to supporting the arts in Los Angeles, with a focus on visual and performing arts organizations that partner with, support, and represent historically underfunded communities. We believe that the arts play an essential role in creating a more equitable, culturally vibrant, and inclusive region.

Our multi-year General Operating Support Grants provide LA County arts organizations with unrestricted funding, which may be used for costs including but not limited to payroll and benefits for staff, rent or mortgage, leadership and staff development, and strategic planning. By offering flexible support with a commitment for multiple years, we aim to help arts organizations strengthen their infrastructure, plan from a place of greater confidence and stability, build capacity, and address immediate needs.

MIND (Maximizing Innovation in Neuroscience Discovery) Prize

The Pershing Square Foundation’s (PSF) brain initiative funds cutting-edge research that revolutionizes our ability to predict, prevent, and treat neurodegenerative diseases (NDDs). Advancing our fundamental understanding of the brain and cognition to ultimately combat neurodegeneration and related diseases is a goal of increasing urgency. Breakthroughs in basic scientific and translational research will yield critical tools for and knowledge of NDDs, including Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia, which affect millions of people worldwide.

The MIND (Maximizing Innovation in Neuroscience Discovery) Prize supports and empowers early-to-mid-career investigators to rethink conventional paradigms around NDDs. Modeled after the Pershing Square Sohn Prize for Young Investigators in Cancer Research, the MIND Prize catalyzes interdisciplinary approaches and facilitate collaborations across academic departments and institutions. It fuels the groundbreaking research that will accelerate our understanding of NDDs at every level.

Projects may range from the invention of novel tools, techniques, and technologies for mapping and analyzing the brain to bold approaches that demonstrate extraordinary therapeutic potential. Research domains may include—but are not limited to—neurobiology, brain imaging and mapping, machine learning, drug delivery, and synthetic biology. Applicants are encouraged to propose bold, hypothesis-driven, high-risk, high-reward research with the potential for transformative impact. Tool and technology development are permitted when they support the testing of a clearly defined biological hypothesis. Screening may be part of the proposed work, but should not be the sole focus. Clinical components are permitted, but proposals should not center on clinical trials or medical device testing in humans.

MIND Prize winners each receive $250,000/year for three years, and they become part of a unique network of researchers associated with PSF. Generally, at least six prizes will be awarded annually. Benefits include:

• Facilitated partnerships with like-minded researchers within and across institutions
• Networking programs such as collaborations and discussions with industry mentors, introductions to philanthropic and for-profit investors in the business community, special industry networking and entrepreneurship events, and more
• An annual retreat
• Opportunities to present at conferences and events (hosted by PSF and other organizations)

The Aurand Harris Grants & Fellowships support children’s theatre by funding projects that foster artistic growth and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion. Eligible applicants include 501c3 nonprofit theatres and individual artists. The grants cover various expenses, such as fees for artists and equipment costs, while prioritizing projects that align with the values of the Children's Theatre Foundation of America. Notably, funding will not cover general operating support or projects already in progress.

The NICHD Resource Program Grants in Bioinformatics aim to support the operation and enhancement of vital bioinformatics databases for research on animal models of embryonic development. The R3PEATS Rigor Scholar Cohort Awards (K12) are designed to empower early-career researchers by enhancing their skills in rigorous scientific practices. This initiative promotes collaboration across institutions to develop best practices in research methodologies, including preregistration and randomization. Participants will gain essential training to ensure excellence and transparency in scientific research, aligning with the NIH's commitment to improve replicability and reproducibility in the field.

The FINRA Investor Education Foundation's General Grant Program funds educational and research projects aimed at enhancing financial literacy among underserved populations. Grants ranging from $50,000 to $100,000 support initiatives that promote financial inclusion and address systemic inequities. Charles and Beatrice Kulier Scholarship

Graduating senior or graduating early college student who attends public, private, or home school in the primary service area of the Community Foundation

The LA County Arts & Culture Community Impact Arts Grant (CIAG) program provides funding between $5,000 and $20,000 to support exemplary arts projects by municipal and nonprofit organizations outside of the arts. David Wiersema Memorial Scholarship

Graduating home school senior or graduating high school or early college student from one of the following high schools: Black River, Hamilton, Holland Christian, Holland High School, Saugatuck, West Ottawa, Zeeland East, or Zeeland West.
