Jonathan F. Reichert & Barbara Wolff-Reichert Award for Excellence in Advanced Laboratory Instruction

This award is to recognize and honor outstanding achievement in teaching, sustaining (for at least four years), and enhancing an advanced undergraduate laboratory course or courses at U.S. institutions. The course(s) should provide a selection of experiments in a range of the various interest areas of physics, for example atomic physics, electronics and optics.

The award consists of $5,000 plus travel expenses (up to $2,000) to attend an APS meeting at which the award is presented, and a certificate citing the achievement of the honoree. The honoree will be invited to present a lecture at that meeting. The award will be offered annually.

Nominations will be considered for three review cycles provided the nominator re-certifies the nomination before the next deadline.

The Five Wings Art Council offers General Operating Support Grants to Minnesota non-profit arts organizations that have held their 501(c)(3) status for at least three years. These grants provide unrestricted funds for administrative and capital expenditures, supporting artistic quality and community access. Organizations in Cass, Crow Wing, Todd, Morrison, and Wadena counties can apply, fostering local arts and enhancing community engagement through diverse artistic initiatives.

The BCBSM Foundation's Catalyst Fund Grant offers non-renewable grants of up to $7,500 to Massachusetts-based community organizations focused on enhancing health access for low-income and marginalized residents. Applications will be accepted starting July 1, 2025, aiming to support capacity-building initiatives rather than ongoing operational costs. The fund prioritizes organizations with limited resources that directly impact vulnerable populations, facilitating innovative projects that address health care disparities.

The Scaling and Assessing Developmental Education Reform - PCC grant, offered by the Illinois Community College Board, aims to enhance equitable, evidence-based developmental education across Illinois. With a history spanning over 50 years, the Illinois Community College System serves over 500,000 residents annually. This initiative seeks to support educational organizations in their efforts to assess and scale impactful reform strategies, ensuring accessible education for all.

The AWI Refinement Research Award, offered by the Animal Welfare Institute, supports innovative projects aimed at enhancing the welfare of animals used in experimentation. With a funding opportunity of up to $15,000, applicants can propose methods to reduce pain and distress, promote species-appropriate care, and address animal abuse in laboratories. Applications are open until October 11, and eligibility is restricted to projects conducted in the U.S. or Canada.

The Energy Conservation Grant in North Dakota supports energy efficiency improvements in public buildings owned by political subdivisions. Eligible projects include insulation installation, efficient lighting, HVAC upgrades, and weather sealing, with awards up to $100,000 requiring a 50% cash match. Projects must achieve a payback period of 10 years or less, and all energy savings calculations will be reviewed by Community Services. Funding is provided on a reimbursement basis.

The Ladd & Katherine Hancher Library Foundation Grant supports public libraries serving populations of 50,000 or less in Texas. Grants range from $2,000 to $40,000 and prioritize projects that contribute educationally to the community. However, funding is not available for operating expenses or salaries. Libraries must be accredited and cannot receive grants for two consecutive years. This initiative encourages unique library vernacular in all applications.

Medical Student Service Leadership Project Grant

AΩA is committed to preparing future leaders in medicine and health care. Leadership is about making a positive difference and can be developed through education, observation, experience, and by working with leader mentors. Service learning provides excellent opportunities for students to develop as servant leaders. Only one team from each school may be nominated.The Grant

The grant is a $9,000, two-year grant – $5,000 the first year, and $4,000 the second year. The grant will be paid to the sponsoring institution. 

The FiO + LS Incubic Milton Chang Travel Grant, funded by the Optica Foundation, offers seven $1,000 grants to support students presenting papers at the Frontiers in Optics + Laser Science conference. Established in 2002, the Optica Foundation promotes the development of students and early career professionals in optics. Eligible applicants must submit their paper to the competition and demonstrate a need for travel support. This initiative aids in fostering research and innovation in the optics field.

Robert H. Moser Essay Award

To honor the late Robert H. Moser, MD (AΩA, Georgetown University, 1969). Awarded to one outstanding essay celebrating the life of a physician like Dr. Moser who has enriched the world through his/her career in medicine.

Background

Dr. Moser organized and worked in one of the first MASH units during the Korean War. He was a pioneering flight controller for NASA during the Project Mercury and Project Apollo space programs, served as Chief of Medicine at Tripler Army Medical Center in Hawaii, and treated patients at the Kalaupapa Leper Colony in Molokai. He was Chief of Medicine at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, editor of JAMA, Executive Vice President of the American College of Physicians and a member of The Pharos Editorial Board.

The Award

One award of $4,500 for an essay highlighting the life of a physician who has enriched the world of medicine. The winning essay will be published in The Pharos. The winning author must submit a W-9 form prior to issuance of the award check.

Impact Fairfield County Grant Program, established in 2015, aims to enhance local non-profits through collective giving, offering $100,000 grants annually. With nearly $1.6 million granted since 2016, the program empowers women to engage in philanthropy while addressing community needs. Eligibility includes being a 501(c)(3) charity in Fairfield County with a focus on underserved populations, ensuring impactful investments. The program promotes organizational growth and community improvement, reinforcing the mission of supporting local initiatives and fostering collaboration among members.

Alaska State Libraries, Archives & Museums

The mission of the Division of Libraries, Archives, and Museums is to promote lifelong learning for all Alaskans through Alaska’s diverse history, art, and culture.

Congress passed an act establishing the Alaska Historical Library and Museum for the District of Alaska on June 6, 1900. The purpose of the Museum and Historical Library was to collect, preserve and provide access to objects, laws, and papers from the Territory. The Legislature established the Alaska State Library in 1955 to provide reference library service to Territorial and other public officials and to cooperate with other libraries to increase effectiveness and reduce duplication. The Legislature established the Alaska State Archives in 1970, which opened its doors to the public in 1972. The Sheldon Jackson Museum, founded in 1888 to house an exceptional collection of Alaska Native ethnographic material gathered by Presbyterian missionary Rev. Dr. Sheldon Jackson, was purchased by the State of Alaska in 1985.

Regional Library Services Grant

The Regional Library Services (RLS) Grant is an annual non-competitive grant opportunity to provide reasonable access to library materials where there are no library facilities, or to provide training or technical support to Alaskan libraries.

Applicants and proposals need to meet requirements according to Alaska Library Law. RLS Grants are awarded according to an agreement between the Alaska State Library and the applicant library.

The Alaska State Library uses federal Grants to States funds under the Library Services and Technology Act funds (CFDA 45.310) and/or State of Alaska grant funds for Library Assistance Grants. If awarded, the pass-through funding source will be indicated in the grant agreement.

b.3. regional library services grants, as authorized by AS 14.46.310 (a)(3), to assist libraries in providing regional library services to areas of the state in which there are no library facilities.

4 AAC 57.069. Regional library services grants

The division shall make a regional library services grant to a library that enters into an agreement with the state library to act on behalf of the state library to:

• furnish library materials to areas of the state in which there is not sufficient population or local revenue to support operation of a public library facility; or
• provide services, training, or technical support to other libraries

These grants are awarded every three years, with new applicants eligible for funding based on specific criteria. Funded by the Hotel Occupancy Tax, the program aims to enhance cultural engagement among residents and visitors, ensuring a vibrant arts scene in San Antonio.

The Garden Grant Program by Whole Kids Foundation offers $3,000 to schools and non-profits to create or enhance edible educational gardens. This initiative connects children with food, fostering curiosity and healthy eating habits. Eligible applicants include K-12 schools and organizations that regularly engage at least ten children in gardening activities. The program emphasizes the importance of hands-on learning about food and gardening, aiming to inspire a new generation of healthy eaters.

The Earl M. Wilson Trust Grant, established in 1984, aims to promote the humane treatment of animals in Buncombe County, North Carolina. This grant supports organizations qualifying under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, ensuring funds are directed towards programs that alleviate animal suffering and prevent cruelty. Through Mr. Wilson's vision, the grant fosters a compassionate community that cares for its vulnerable animal population.

The CAR-FRESHNER Corporation Charitable Fund Grant, established in partnership with the Northern New York Community Foundation, aims to support community programs focused on educational initiatives. Nonprofit organizations can apply once per year for grants ranging from $5,000 to $20,000. Areas of focus include libraries, child care, vocational training, and other projects enhancing educational opportunities in Jefferson, Lewis, and St. Lawrence Counties. The fund reflects CAR-FRESHNER's commitment to its community and quality service.

The Gus Poesch Research Fund, established in honor of innovator Gus Poesch, offers approximately $40,000 annually to support floriculture-related projects at The Ohio State University. This fund prioritizes projects that recruit high-quality graduate students, advance research, and improve industry practices. Emphasizing relevance to current industry needs, funded projects may cover pest management, production techniques, and postharvest quality. The fund encourages collaboration and aims to enhance the profitability and sustainability of the floral industry.

Direct State Aid funding is distributed to participating public libraries through a formula that calculates:

• A base amount dependent on Tier Level met, as set by the Accreditation & Standards program.
• The per capita amount based on the population of the city and level of compliance with quality measures.
• Three percent of the amount of funding received by the library in the previous fiscal year for service to rural residents and contracting communities.

The Capital Improvements for District 3 Intergenerational Recreational Facilities RFP aims to fund upgrades to recreational facilities in San Francisco's District 3, serving diverse generations. With a total grant amount of up to $500,000, the Mayor’s Office of Housing and Community Development will prioritize proposals based on scoring until funds are exhausted. The funding period is set from January 1, 2026, to December 31, 2027, ensuring impactful community enhancements.

The Arts Fund for East Tennessee Grant Program, established in 1986, supports artistic excellence and cultural diversity in East Tennessee. In 2024, it aims to sustain cultural traditions and encourage diverse artistic expressions. Grants ranging from $5,000 to $15,000 will be awarded for two-year terms starting July 1, 2024. Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) organizations and those with fiscal sponsors, focusing on outreach to underserved populations and grassroots art initiatives.

The GaMTSS Cohort 2026 initiative by the Georgia Department of Education aims to enhance educational outcomes for Georgia's 1.7 million public school students. This three-year program provides selected districts with dedicated GaMTSS Program Specialists for targeted coaching and technical assistance. It focuses on implementing a comprehensive tiered system of supports while offering statewide professional development opportunities. The initiative emphasizes student preparedness for life beyond academics, ensuring all schools have the resources necessary for quality education.

The Steven Weinberg Research Award, presented by the Texas Section of the American Physical Society, recognizes outstanding research in physics by graduate students. Nominees must have presented their research at a Texas APS meeting within the last two years. The award includes a plaque and $1000, emphasizing excellence and potential impact in the scientific community. Nominations can be made by advisors or qualified nominators, and the recipient is typically required to attend the award presentation at the Fall meeting.

The Lake Region Arts Council's Project Grant supports artistic initiatives in West Central Minnesota, offering up to $3,000 for projects in various disciplines such as art, dance, literature, and music. Applicants are required to match 20% of the grant amount, fostering community involvement and artistic expression. This grant aims to enhance the vibrancy of the local arts scene and encourage creativity among residents.

Utah State Library

The Utah State Library (USL), created in 1957, provides funding, training, professional expertise, and technical advice to library directors, library staff, and trustees across Utah. Through the Program for the Blind and Disabled, Utah Bookmobiles, Interlibrary Loan program, Book Buzz for Book Groups, Utah's Online Public Library, and the Utah Government Digital Library, USL ensures access to library materials and state publications for all Utahns.

LSTA Competitive Grant

Purpose

The Utah State Library via the Library Development Program supports Utah's libraries and librarians and promotes the improvement of library service through training, grant funding, consulting, youth services, outreach, and more. The Institute of Museum and Library Services priorities for LSTA funding can be found here. Together, these institutions provide this funding in support of the goals, and an application should primarily support one of these focal areas:

• Institutional capacity: Improve the library workforce; Improve library's physical and technology infrastructure; Improve library operations.
• Information access: Improve users' ability to discover information resources; Improve users’ ability to obtain and/or use information resources.
• Lifelong learning: Improve users' formal education; Improve users’ general knowledge and skills.
• Human services: Improve users’ ability to apply information that furthers their personal, family or household finances; Improve users’ ability to apply information that furthers their personal or family health & wellness; Improve users’ ability to apply information that furthers their parenting and family skills.
• Employment & economic development: Improve users’ ability to use resources and apply information for employment support; Improve users' ability to use and apply business resources.
• Civic engagement: Improve users’ ability to participate in their community; Improve users’ ability to participate in community conversations around topics of concern.

Grant projects must fit into at least one of the Goals stated in USL’s LSTA Five Year Plan 2023-2027.

The NWS Student Travel Award, offered by the American Physical Society, provides financial support of up to $400 for undergraduate students to attend the Annual Meeting. This initiative aims to enhance participation among students, especially those without other funding sources, who are presenting research. Established in 1998, the Northwest Section of APS fosters collaboration among physicists in the Pacific Northwest, promoting educational and research opportunities within the community.

The Alexander McCausland Charitable Trust Grant supports organizations that promote the humane treatment and care of animals in Roanoke, Virginia, and surrounding areas. Focused on preventing cruelty and ensuring health, protection, and appropriate shelter for animals, the Trust prioritizes grants to 501(c)(3) exempt organizations. Notably, it does not fund entities that engage in euthanasia. This initiative reflects Mr. McCausland's dedication to animal welfare and community support.

The NYSS Student Support program, offered by the American Physical Society, provides financial assistance to students attending physics symposia. Grants of approximately $150 help cover travel and accommodation expenses, encouraging attendance at both sessions and the symposium banquet. Applications are open to students from New York and nearby states, with a focus on fostering educational outreach and engagement in physics. Each application must be signed by the student and their Department Chair, ensuring a streamlined process.
