Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley

The Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley is a collection of individual funds and resources given by local citizens to enhance and support the quality of life in the Fox River Valley of Illinois.

We are a tax-exempt public charity that allows individuals, businesses, and non-profit organizations to establish permanent endowments and temporary funds within the confines of one large foundation.

Foundation funds are used to provide grants to non-profit organizations and scholarships to area students. The Foundation also hosts a Youth Engagement in Philanthropy (YEP) program, which helps high school students learn more about philanthropy and empowers them to make a difference in the community.

The Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley serves the City of Aurora, Kane County, and Kendall County within the State of Illinois.

G. William & Freda S. Moore Scholarship Endowment Fund

This fund provides scholarships to students pursuing studies in business or accounting.

G. William Moore grew up on a farm near Paducah, Kentucky. He graduated from Bowling Green College of Commerce with a degree in higher accounting.

Mr. Moore served in the United States Navy during World War II reaching the rank of lieutenant. He came to Aurora in 1946 to work as a CPA for a local accounting firm.

In 1949, he opened his own firm and continued in practice until 1977. He then joined his practice with a firm from Champaign, Illinois, predecessor to Sikich Gardner & Co.

Mr. Moore is a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and the Aurora Noon Kiwanis Club.

Freda S. Moore (1918-2004) was a native of Clarksburg, West Virginia. She graduated from Bowling Green College of Commerce with a degree in business administration.

After graduation, she taught business courses at the high school level. During World War II, she worked for the United States Air Force in Norfolk, Virginia.

Mrs. Moore was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and was an accomplished musician, playing the piano, saxophone and clarinet.

The Senate Bill 1 Sea Level Rise Adaptation Grant Program, administered by the California Ocean Protection Council, aims to support coastal communities in developing and implementing nature-based adaptation projects against sea level rise. The Gary Paul Piantanida Scholarship, established by Paul and Edna Piantanida in memory of their son Gary, offers financial support to high school seniors, undergraduates, and returning students in San Luis Obispo County. This scholarship honors students who exemplify strong work ethic, dependability, and integrity, reflecting the values cherished by the Piantanidas. With a commitment to fostering educational opportunities, the Community Foundation San Luis Obispo County encourages applicants to pursue their dreams and contribute positively to their communities.

The Gronstrand Ernst Scholarship, managed by the San Luis Obispo County Community Foundation, supports high school seniors and adult re-entry students with a minimum GPA of 3.5. Eligible applicants must be residents of San Luis Obispo County, attend a university or vocational program, and demonstrate financial need, with English as their second language. Rapid Impact Research Award

Purpose

The American Heart Association continuously seeks innovative ideas to address the most pressing issues impacting cardiovascular and brain health. To that end, the Association is pleased to announce the Rapid Impact Research Award program, which will support early and mid-career investigators proposing innovative research that aligns with the Association’s mission. Novel basic, clinical and/or population health proposals are invited in the following three priority areas of research.

• Sudden cardiac arrest/resuscitation science
• Cardiovascular Kidney Metabolic Syndrome
• Stroke and/or vascular dementia

Applicants will be asked to indicate alignment of their proposal with one or more of the topic areas listed above.

ATS/PHA Early Career Award

One grant is available for early-career investigators interested in pulmonary hypertension research who are likely to make a strong and sustained impact in PH research. This grant is co-funded by the Pulmonary Hypertension Association and ATS.

Areas of interest for proposals include:

• Investigating the pathophysiology of PH
• Elucidating mechanistic pathways
• Identifying novel therapeutic targets or biomarkers in adult or pediatric pulmonary hypertension

The project should have potential applicability to human pulmonary vascular diseases.

Applicants may request up to $50,000 for one year for salaries or supplies or a combination thereof.

Annual, renewable scholarship created in memory of Matthew Moore by his wife, Lucy Goffinet, and his parents, John E. and Ann C. Moore, to help students pursuing advanced education.

• Renewal award amounts may differ from the original award.

The RUST grant program supports small business owners in California by providing up to 100% funding for the removal, replacement, or upgrade of underground storage tanks (USTs) to meet safety regulations. Grants range from $3,000 to $70,000, with an additional $140,000 available for remote public fueling stations. Eligible applicants must have fewer than 20 employees and have specific compliance requirements with state health codes.

The RUST loan program supports small businesses in California by financing up to 100% of costs for upgrading, removing, or replacing underground storage tanks. This initiative helps ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, including necessary corrective actions. Low-interest loans range from $10,000 to $750,000, with flexible terms of 10 or 20 years, aiding businesses in meeting health and safety standards while promoting environmental responsibility.

This fund was established in honor of Bill Tarpley, who served as Principal of Central High School by his family and friends. The fund provides graduating seniors with a learning disability an opportunity to attend vocational school or college.

Guidelines:

• One scholarship will be awarded on a one-time basis and disbursed in August.

Amount:

• No less than $300 depending on available funds.

Townsend, R.E. Educational Scholarship

This fund was established by the trustees of the R.E. Townsend Educational Fund to provide academic scholarships to students intending to further their education.
