Best Grants for International Development

The Lead-Safe Homes Program (LSHP) invites local partner organizations to apply for grant funding aimed at reducing lead hazards in homes across Wisconsin. Heart of Canal Street, established in 1994 by Potawatomi Hotel & Casino, focuses on enhancing the lives of children in southeastern Wisconsin. The initiative collaborates with local charities to provide essential services, promote safety, and foster an appreciation for the arts. In 2024, the program will award over $500,000 to 30 deserving children's charities, ensuring a brighter future for youth in the community.

The Foundation for Health Enhancement Grant aims to improve healthcare delivery in the U.S., focusing on preventive services and support for smaller organizations near Chicago. Grants range from $5,000 to $15,000, with biannual deadlines on April 1 and September 1. Eligible tax-exempt organizations will be considered, while those seeking general operating support will not qualify. Most grants last one year, and applicants can expect decisions within 3 to 4 months after submission.

Land and Water Conservation Fund

Project sponsors such as cities, towns, counties, school and recreation districts are eligible to apply for federally funded LWCF grants. The LWCF is a matching grant program based upon a fifty percent (50%) reimbursement of the total cost of the project. Only costs for the development and/or acquisition of public outdoor recreation lands and facilities are eligible for assistance.

A successful grant applicant must agree to dedicate the park or area where the project is located for use by the public for perpetuity. In addition, the grantee must also agree to develop, operate and maintain the development to acceptable National Park Service (NPS) standards for public outdoor recreation. 

All applications must meet a State Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (SCORP) identified need and will then be numerically ranked by the Open Project Selection Process (OPSP). Grants for matching funds are subject to approval by the NPS. All costs must be incurred after the project has received approval from the NPS.

All applications will be prioritized by the Wyoming State Parks and Cultural Resource Commissioners and then sent to the NPS for their review and approval. It is anticipated the NPS will provide final approval by October 1st of each year. More information is contained in the Wyoming LWCF Handbook.

The Mike & Sofia Segal Foundation Grant provides vital funding to nonprofit organizations focused on intellectual freedom, medical research for rare diseases, Jewish heritage preservation, elder care, and climate change initiatives. By supporting innovative projects that align with their mission, the foundation aims to uplift communities and foster meaningful societal contributions. Organizations must be 501c-3 compliant and demonstrate a clear plan for engagement with beneficiaries and measurable objectives to be eligible for funding.

The Akron Community Foundation's Community Fund for Education Grants focuses on investing in the future of Summit County students. By partnering with local schools and community members, the foundation aims to support programs aligned with the Cradle to Career continuum. Grants target key transition points in education, particularly for early learning initiatives, ensuring children from birth to age five are equipped for success. This holistic approach enhances educational outcomes in the community.

The Knowles-Nelson Stewardship State Property Development Grant Program provides $500,000 annually to support friends groups and nonprofit conservation organizations in enhancing state property facilities. Grants can reach up to $20,000 per project, with a focus on nature-based outdoor recreation and habitat restoration. Eligible projects must align with DNR plans and address unmet needs, ensuring long-term benefits. Successful applicants must comply with grant conditions and manage shared project costs effectively.

The Ralph J. Torraco Food Bank/Shelter Fund Grant, offered by the UNICO Foundation Inc., aims to combat hunger and provide shelter for the homeless and indigent. Eligible applicants include registered non-profit food pantries, soup kitchens, and shelters in 13 U.S. states. The grant focuses on direct services, ensuring that all funds are used for food and shelter, not for operating expenses, thereby promoting effective community support for vulnerable populations.

The Lafayette County Bluebird Society Legacy Fund (LCBS) is dedicated to supporting bird conservation initiatives and educational programs in the Driftless Area of southwest Wisconsin. Managed by the Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin, the fund prioritizes projects that include Lafayette County and organizations whose main mission aligns with bird conservation. Grant applications are reviewed by a volunteer advisory board, and requests should ideally not exceed $3,500.

SHIFT 3.3 Rural EMS Request for Grant Applications

Project overview:

The Sustaining Health Infrastructure for Transformation (SHIFT) initiative is designed to transform preventive care. SHIFT focuses on enhancing local service delivery and modernizing infrastructure. It supports capital improvements, expands services like community paramedicine, and establishes integrated rural health provider networks to build a more resilient and interconnected healthcare system.

This RFGA will provide funding to rural and Tribal EMS communities to strengthen emergency medical services and workforce capacity by expanding training access, improving communications, facilitating data exchange, and enhancing community paramedicine capabilities.

Applicants must align their proposal with one or more of the following programs:

NC DEQ 319 Grant Program

Through Section 319(h) of the Clean Water Act, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency provides states with funding to reduce nonpoint source pollution. North Carolina typically receives around $1 million for competitive funding of watershed restoration projects. Funds may be used to conduct watershed restoration projects such as stormwater and agricultural best management practices and restoration of impaired streams. Section 319 grant projects must be used to help restore waterbodies currently impaired by nonpoint source pollution in areas with approved watershed restoration plans. (map) (list)

State and local governments, interstate and intrastate agencies, public and private nonprofit organizations, and educational institutions are all eligible to apply for 319 funding. An interagency workgroup reviews the proposals and selects those of merit to be funded.

The Live Like Bella Pediatric Cancer Research Initiative

The Florida Department of Health’s Live Like Bella Pediatric Cancer Research Initiative supports the pursuit of identifying cures for pediatric cancer.

The Live Like Bella Pediatric Cancer Research Initiative is established in section 381.922, Florida Statutes, works to advance progress toward curing pediatric cancer through grants awarded through a peer-reviewed, competitive process, to:

• Significantly expand pediatric cancer research capacity in Florida
• Improve both research and treatment through greater pediatric enrollment in clinical trials networks
• Reduce the impact of pediatric cancer on disproportionately impacted individuals

Research Focus

Applications submitted in response to this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) must be responsive to one of the following areas of focus. 

• Prevention and Treatment
• Screening
• Obesity

Bella Initiative Grant Categories: Research Infrastructure

Eligible organizations may submit an infrastructure application in at least one of the following six areas: tissue banking, bioinformatics, genomics, diagnostic imaging, disproportionately impacted individuals, or quality indicator systems. The Department is particularly interested in research involving quality indicator systems, when this is linked with other priorities, such as increasing the number of Florida research networks, external funding for research infrastructure, and large-scale projects, including but not limited to National Cancer Institute grants. Organizations will only be permitted to be the lead on one application but may be collaborators on applications submitted by other organizations. When organizations collaborate on more than one infrastructure application, they need to describe how the projects are different and do not overlap.

Applications for research infrastructure grants that are reviewed and assigned exceptional scientific merit will be considered for preferential funding.

Reiter Family Foundation Grant

The Reiter Family Foundation seeks to support organizations that are doing meaningful work to shape and sustain Colorado communities. Our areas of focus are housing and food security, education and youth programming, and environment and conservation, but we do welcome inquiries from non-profits who do not necessarily fit neatly into our focus areas. In terms of geographic location, we tend to focus our giving in the Denver Metro and Grand County areas of Colorado.

Environment and Conservation

Environment/Conservation: With our family roots in this beautiful state, we want to support the protection and conservation of our Colorado’s lands and waterways as well as help to cut down on the pollution that threatens the health and longevity of our planet as a whole. 

Grants typically range from $2,000 - $15,000, but additional funding may be available.

Applicants can only submit one grant proposal each calendar year (January - December), but may apply again the following year unless otherwise advised. 

The C. Scott and Dorothy E. Watkins Charitable Foundation supports educational, research, and charitable organizations in Utah. Focused on promoting self-reliance, the foundation provides financial assistance for local programs in education, healthcare, and community support. Eligible organizations must be 501(c)(3) tax-exempt and serve the Utah area. The foundation does not fund endowments, capital campaigns, or political lobbying, ensuring resources are directed towards impactful local initiatives.

The Myron Stratton Home Grant aims to honor Winfield Scott Stratton's legacy by supporting organizations that assist underserved populations, including the elderly, children, and those unable to work due to illness. The grant prioritizes innovative projects that enhance existing services or create new programs to meet community needs in El Paso and Teller counties. Collaborative efforts that prevent service duplication are especially encouraged, ensuring that resources effectively reach those in need.

Eligible applicants must be 501(c)(3) tax-exempt non-profits serving local areas. The foundation prioritizes programs promoting self-reliance through scholarships and humanitarian aid. Applications are accepted annually until August 15, with notifications by November 30. Notably, it does not fund endowments or multi-year pledges, ensuring targeted support for immediate community needs.

The Applied Materials Momentum Fund - Bridge Grants aim to support students facing financial obstacles in completing their computing degrees. This initiative fosters diversity in the semiconductor industry by encouraging women engineers and providing them with career-building opportunities. Eligible candidates include U.S. citizens, DACA recipients, and F1 visa holders pursuing engineering majors. The fund not only alleviates financial stress but also opens doors to internships and full-time positions at Applied Materials, thus enhancing educational progress and career advancement.

The Women’s Giving Alliance of South Lake, part of the Community Foundation of South Lake County, aims to inspire women to become strategic philanthropists. This initiative focuses on improving the lives of women and children in South Lake County through innovative solutions and measurable impacts. Local nonprofits are encouraged to apply for grants that will facilitate systemic change and address critical needs within the community. This program seeks to create a lasting positive influence on those served.

The American Heart Association is seeking proposals to study the prevalence and treatment of cardiovascular, kidney, and metabolic diseases among cancer patients and survivors. Given the over 16.7 million cancer survivors in the U.S., this research aims to highlight critical health disparities, identify treatment modalities, and explore shared risk factors. Applications focusing on underrepresented populations and utilizing real-world data sources are especially encouraged, aiming to improve health outcomes in this vulnerable group.

Urban Forestry Grants

Eligible Projects for this Funding Opportunity

The intent of this funding is to assist state, local, and tribal governments in areas impacted by hurricanes and natural disasters in 2022, 2023, and 2024 by improving mitigating post-storm threats to ecosystem functionality and providing technical assistance for rural and community forest restoration. All projects and purchases must be shown in each proposal to have a direct positive impact on the recovery of the affected areas. Proposal narratives must explicitly describe how activities will assist in the recovery in impacted areas. SCFC will prioritize funding for projects affected by Hurricane Helene. SCFC will make subawards as described below to FEMA disaster declared counties/communities in South Carolina under this supplemental funding opportunity.

 The Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs (the Department or TDHCA) announces an annual Notice of Funding Availability for Emergency Solutions Grants (ESG) funds for street outreach, emergency shelter, homeless prevention, rapid re-housing, Homeless Management Information System (HMIS), and Administration.

The NIAAA Integrative Neuroscience Initiative on Alcoholism (INIA) aims to renew support for two research consortia focusing on the biological mechanisms of excessive alcohol consumption and Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD). By utilizing advanced technologies and fostering collaboration across multiple sites, this initiative seeks to standardize neurofunctional measures and enhance reproducibility in findings. Investigators are encouraged to prepare for future applications to this NOFO, which will utilize the U24 activity code.

The John Muir Community Health Fund (CHF) Grant focuses on enhancing health care access for underserved populations in Central and East Contra Costa County. As part of John Muir Health's commitment to improving community well-being, the CHF provides financial support to nonprofit organizations addressing critical health needs. By fostering innovative health initiatives and filling service gaps, the grant aims to create lasting health improvements and ensure equitable care for vulnerable groups.

The Agricultural Climate Resiliency & Efficiencies (ACRE) Program is a competitive grant initiative aimed at assisting Massachusetts farmers in adopting practices that mitigate the impacts of climate change on agriculture. By providing reimbursement for materials and labor, the program enhances economic resilience and supports environmental sustainability. Eligible applicants must be engaged in commercial agriculture and have actively managed their properties for at least three years. Innovative proposals that improve soil health and conserve resources are especially encouraged.

The Loretta Morris Memorial Grants support individuals with cystic fibrosis in California who wish to engage in physical activities such as swimming, horseback riding, dance, or golf. Established in memory of Loretta Morris, this fund aims to help recipients enjoy the benefits of an active lifestyle. Applications are welcomed from both children and adults, promoting inclusivity and well-being within the CF community.
