Florida Constitution authorizes the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission

The Florida Constitution authorizes the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission to enact rules and regulations regarding the state's fish and wildlife resources. To do this, the 7 FWC Commissioners meet 4 times each year to hear staff reports, consider rule proposals and conduct other Commission business.

Boating Infrastructure Grant Program (BIGP)

The Boating Infrastructure Grant Program (BIGP) provides funding through competitive grants for tie-up facilities for transient recreational boats 26 feet or longer (non-trailerable). This program is funded by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. 

Types of Funding Available

There are two types of grants, Tier I and Tier II

Tier I Projects

In any given funding cycle, the State of Florida may receive a total of $300,000 for Tier I projects. All Tier I projects must meet the eligibility requirements of 50 CFR 86.20. Each Tier I project cannot exceed $300,000; however, the State of Florida may select one (1) or as many Tier I projects as are eligible so long as the aggregate of these projects does not total more than that year's funding cycle allotment. Tier One projects compete against other Florida projects for funding.

The Florida Boating Infrastructure Grant Program (BIGP) Tier II offers competitive funding for transient recreational boat tie-up facilities. With an annual budget between $9 million and $14 million, it supports projects exceeding 26 feet in length. While there is no maximum project cost, federal funding is capped at $1.5 million. This program, overseen by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, encourages innovative proposals that meet stringent eligibility criteria.

The Mutual of America Foundation Community Partnership Award honors exemplary nonprofit organizations in the U.S. that foster collaborative partnerships across sectors. Annually, a national competition showcases numerous organizations demonstrating impactful community partnerships. Six organizations receive recognition, including the Thomas J. Moran Award, which offers $100,000, and the Frances R. Hesselbein Award, granting $75,000. Since 1996, the award has acknowledged 262 partnerships, emphasizing Mutual of America's commitment to societal improvement through collaboration.

The Fish & Wildlife Foundation of Florida supports conservation and sustainable enjoyment of Florida's lands and wildlife. With over $66 million awarded since 1994, the Foundation focuses on public hunting, safety programs, and shooting sports. Grants range from $1,000 to $75,000, with a preference for matching funds. Eligible applicants include government agencies, educational institutions, and non-profits. The Foundation may also consider for-profit proposals at its discretion.

The Ibis Charities Foundation Grant supports 501(c)(3) charities in Palm Beach County. Eligible organizations must maintain good standing with the IRS and the Florida Secretary of State. General funding may be considered if it aligns with the charity's core mission. Notably, grants are not available for individual support or charities outside the designated region.

Eligible organizations must engage Insperity employees or contribute to the communities where they operate. The Sea Turtle Grants Program, funded by Florida's Sea Turtle Specialty License Plate sales, supports vital research, conservation, and educational initiatives for Florida's marine turtles. The program allocates 30% of license plate revenue to grant applications, with a maximum of four submissions per organization. Priority is given to projects that enhance the preservation of marine turtles and align with recovery plans and the Marine Turtle Protection Program's goals.

The Sea Turtle Grants Program, funded by Florida's Sea Turtle Specialty License Plate revenues, supports ongoing research and conservation efforts for Florida's sea turtles through non-competitive mini-grants of $1,000. Eligible organizations, including local governments and non-profits, can apply for funding to continue essential activities like nesting surveys and rehabilitation. Applications are due by March 2, 2026, and prior recipients of Sea Turtle Grants are ineligible for this cycle.

The Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) by the USDA's Natural Resources Conservation Service in Florida provides crucial support to farmers and landowners for implementing conservation practices.
