The Citi Foundation’s 2026 Community Finance Initiative commits $35 million to support programming that bolsters the financial stability, strength and safety of low-income households in the U.S.

Focus Areas

The Foundation seeks to support organizations advancing low-income household financial resilience in the United States across three focus areas:

Stabilize: Programs that help low-income households to build financial skills and confidence to manage daily finances and navigate financial stress.

• Financial coaching on budgeting, credit, debt reduction and savings strategies.
• Digital tools offering personalized financial guidance and product navigation.
• Assistance with public benefits and social safety net programs.

Strengthen: Programs that help low-income households build and repair credit, as well as short- and long-term financial assets.

• Financial products or services for credit building and credit repair.
• Initiatives to increase savings, including emergency funds.
• Support for homeownership, including readiness, preservation and long-term stability (e.g., first-time buyer assistance, preventing displacement and support systems for aging in place resources).

Safeguard: Programs that protect low-income household financial security by preventing and addressing financial losses.

• Education and support for the safe and confident use of digital financial tools.
• Fraud and scam awareness, prevention and recovery initiatives, including protection from identity theft.
• Interventions to help households recover from major financial shocks (e.g., healthcare costs, extended family care, job transitions or natural disasters).

Funding Opportunity

The Foundation plans to award 70 $500,000 (USD) grants (to be disbursed over two years) totaling $35 million to community organizations working in select communities where Citi has a presence.

The grants will be restricted and are anticipated to be disbursed in two annual payments in 2026 and 2027. Proposed projects should be for a term of 24 months, starting no sooner than August 1, 2026 and ending no later than December 31, 2028.

The Neighborhood Builders Program, supported by Bank of America, empowers 501(c)(3) nonprofits through a two-year leadership development initiative. Catholic Extension prioritizes operational support and seed funding for initiatives that develop youth and young adult ministries, ensuring that dioceses can effectively reach and engage younger generations in their faith.

The Building Capacity Grants by Catholic Extension aim to enhance the financial and operational capabilities of dioceses. This initiative focuses on funding projects that promote efficiency, financial stability, and effective fiscal management, ultimately fostering a self-sustaining community. Eligible programs include fundraising development initiatives and operational assessments, ensuring resources are utilized efficiently while supporting professional development for church leadership. This grant empowers dioceses to strengthen their foundations for future growth.

The Julius Sumner Miller Foundation Grant supports projects that enhance science education, particularly in physics, and improve health care for the elderly in southern California's South Bay region. The Foundation prioritizes programs that address critical needs, provide measurable impacts, and are non-discriminatory. Grants are awarded annually, with multi-year options available based on project goals and outcomes. Eligible organizations must hold IRS 501(c)(3) status and cannot be private foundations.

Catholic Extension's Enhancing Pastoral and Social Ministry Grants aim to empower the church to broaden its outreach and foster societal transformation through targeted pastoral and social initiatives. With the sale, the State of California required that the proceeds of the non-profit hospital be put to use for the benefit of the community through the creation of non-profit public charity or private foundation. The Parkview Legacy Foundation is the result of that transaction, and Parkview Legacy Foundation now exists as an independent Public Charity serving the Riverside region. With the funds endowed to the foundation, we are honored to invest back into the local community with a broader scope of ensuring the equitable probability of wellness through social determinants of health.

Core Operations and Capacity Impact Grant

Parkview Legacy Foundation’s Impact Grants Program is driven by our core values and intended to support organizations seeking to make transformational progress in addressing needs and seizing opportunities in our four focus areas throughout the Riverside region.   

Core Operations and Capacity funding is intended to support the advancement of the organization’s mission toward specific and stated objectives (goals, outcomes, and/or impact) through use of the funding by the organization in whatever way they deem necessary to do so (excluding prohibited uses). Examples of ways organizations may choose to use the Core Operations and Capacity Impact Grant include: funding a reserves fund, covering indirect costs, covering direct costs, seeding a new program or project.  

The Coachella Valley - Proposition 68 Grant Program, administered by the California Coachella Valley Mountains Conservancy, provides funding to public agencies, nonprofits, and tribes for projects that enhance watershed health, land conservation, and community resilience. This initiative aligns with the 2018 California Drought, Water, Parks, Climate, Coastal Protection, and Outdoor Access Act, promoting public access to parks and encouraging water conservation efforts while addressing climate change impacts.

The Coachella Valley Open Space Acquisition Program aims to protect wildlife and cultural resources while enhancing recreational and educational opportunities. Grants are awarded to acquire conservation lands within the Coachella Valley and surrounding mountains or to improve existing conservation areas. Collective Impact Grant

Parkview Legacy Foundation’s Impact Grants Program is driven by our core values and intended to support organizations seeking to make transformational progress in addressing needs and seizing opportunities in our four focus areas throughout the Riverside region.   

Collective Impact funding is intended to support the advancement of efforts toward specific and stated objectives (goals, outcomes, and/or impacts) being carried forth by strategically coordinated and operated multi-sector collaborations and initiatives involving multiple organizations and/or institutions. Examples of ways the Collective Impact Grant may be used include:

• funding the operations of a backbone organization for the effort,
• providing participation funding to the participating organizations to help sustain the effort, and
• paying consultants or partner organizations to accomplish specific tasks on behalf of the effort.  

The Inland Empire Youth Grantmakers program empowers high school students to address critical issues in their communities, focusing on mental health and education equity. With a hands-on, six-month experience, participants engage in grantmaking, community service, and advocacy. In 2025, the program shifted to prioritize mental health and educational resources, ensuring all youth have access to opportunities for success. By supporting nonprofits that provide essential services, the initiative aims to create lasting social change in Riverside, San Bernardino, and Coachella Valley.

The PLTW Launch program, supported by Burns and McDonnell, aims to enhance student engagement in STEM education within eligible communities. This initiative will provide grants to schools that implement at least one PLTW Launch module in the 2025-2026 academic year, followed by another module in subsequent years. The program is designed to empower students with hands-on learning experiences that connect real-world challenges to essential skills, fostering a stronger future in STEM fields.

Nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations serving children with special needs in health care, education, or mobility in Riverside, California can seek funding for Sunshine Coach vehicles and related equipment.
