Humanities Texas

Humanities Texas is a nonprofit, tax-exempt, educational organization incorporated by the State of Texas in 1972. The state partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), Humanities Texas receives its primary funding through federal appropriations to the NEH and additional support from foundations, corporations, and individuals. Since 2009, Humanities Texas has received an appropriation from the State of Texas exclusively for the administration of our professional development programs for Texas teachers.

The Humanities Texas Grants Program

Working in partnership with the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), Humanities Texas provides financial support to nonprofit organizations and institutions for humanities programs that serve public audiences.

Exhibition Grants

Exhibition grants fund up to $2,500 of the costs associated with the rental of a Humanities Texas traveling exhibition and related programming. These small grants are easy to apply for and administer and are available on a rolling basis throughout the year. They require one-to-one cost-share. Our exhibition grants support educational, historical, and cultural organizations hosting a Humanities Texas exhibition and related programming throughout the state.

All applicants must book and confirm an exhibition using the online rental form before submitting an application for funding.

Humanities Texas offers Mini Grants to support public humanities programs, enhancing educational quality in Texas. These grants, available on a rolling basis, fund projects that engage communities through lectures, exhibitions, and workshops. Applicants must be nonprofit organizations or governmental entities and need a DUNS number. The program emphasizes collaboration with humanities scholars to ensure projects are rooted in inquiry and accessible to diverse audiences. This initiative not only fosters lifelong learning but also strengthens the cultural and civic fabric of Texas.

The Moody Foundation Grant supports charitable projects in Texas, focusing on innovative ideas that foster long-term community improvements. Eligible recipients include registered 501(c)(3) nonprofits, governmental entities, and certain supporting organizations. The Foundation prioritizes grants for education, health, arts, and social services, particularly in underserved areas like Galveston, Austin, and Dallas. Applicants should anticipate a twelve-month process from inquiry to funding decision, as the Foundation carefully reviews each proposal.

The Reuter Family Foundation Grant supports nonprofit organizations providing essential human services to the poor and disadvantaged in Collin County and Dallas, Texas. Founded in 2011, the foundation emphasizes emergency assistance, affordable housing, and rehabilitation services. Grants typically do not exceed $100,000 annually, and the foundation aims to engage with grantees directly. With over $10 million awarded since 1992, the fund supports impactful litigation addressing systemic injustices. Grants range from $10,000 to $50,000 and prioritize cases directly involving affected communities. Recipients must repay the grant amount with interest if they recover fees or costs, ensuring sustainability for future funding.

Grantmaking

BHFSA Community Impact Grants

Small organizations do big things and are incredibly valuable in our community. Baptist Health Foundation of San Antonio recognizes this and provides Community Impact Grants of up to $12,000 to support smaller initiatives and organizations that have a large impact on community health.

Specific Grant Requirements

• The organization must have had less than $250,000 in actual revenue during the most recently completed fiscal year (Churches are exempt from this requirement);
• The organization must have an annual operating budget of at least $15,000 (for the fiscal year that includes July 1, 2026);
• The application amount must not exceed 20 percent of the organization’s total actual revenue in the most recently completed fiscal year;
• The application amount must fall in the range of $3,000-$12,000; and
• Organizations that received a Community Impact Grant in the most recent grant year may apply, but preference will be given to organizations that have not recently received funding from the Foundation.

Although solutions don’t need to focus on generative AI specifically, teams should demonstrate how their career pathways programming align with the following dimensions:

• Training and Upskilling Programs – Providing holistic, accessible programming that equips workers with essential skills, industry-validated credentials, and technical literacy for the modern workplace.
• AI Readiness and Literacy – Offering high-quality training that helps workers understand generative AI and agentic technologies as augmented intelligence tools, helping to build practical skills like effective prompting, domain expertise application, and ethical use.
• Additional Wraparound Services and Basic Needs Support – Supporting unemployed and underemployed workers on their journey to economic mobility through comprehensive, integrated resources including childcare, transportation support, mentorship, mental health services, benefits navigation, and more.

What does this program do?

It provides loans and grants to Microenterprise Development Organizations (MDOs) to:

• To help microenterprises startup and growth through a Rural Microloan Revolving Fund.
• Provide training and technical assistance to microloan borrowers and micro entrepreneurs.

What is an eligible area?

• Rural areas outside a city or town with a population of fewer than 50,000 residents. Urbanized areas near a city of 50,000 or more may not be eligible.
• The borrower’s headquarters may be based within a larger city so long as the project service area is located in an eligible rural area.
• The lender may be located anywhere.

 What kind of funding is available? 

Grants are available to provide technical assistance to rural micro-entrepreneurs or microenterprises, up to $205,000 annually. Funding at the requested level is not guaranteed, and at least 15 percent matching funds are required.

Loans of $50,000 to $500,000 may be used for establishing a Rural Microloan Revolving Fund managed by the Microenterprise Development Organization. Total aggregate debt is capped at $2.5 million.

The National Trust Preservation Funds provide grants ranging from $2,500 to $5,000 to support local preservation projects and ongoing work. These funds aim to enhance community engagement in preservation, foster technical expertise, and stimulate financial participation from the private sector. Eligible applicants include public agencies and nonprofit organizations focused on planning and education efforts related to preservation. The program is particularly interested in initiatives that reach new audiences and further the preservation movement.

The Southwest Intervention Fund, managed by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, supports preservation efforts of traditional cultures across Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, West Texas, and Utah. Grants ranging from $2,500 to $10,000 are available for local partners, nonprofits, and government agencies to address emergency threats and promote preservation planning. Eligible projects include archaeological site surveys, public awareness workshops, and legal assistance for cultural resource management, ensuring the protection of vital historic sites.

The Waco Foundation's Capital Expenses Support Grants aim to assist 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofits in McLennan County, Texas, with essential funding for small capital projects. These grants prioritize organizations focused on human services, youth programs, and arts/culture that require support for office equipment, renovations, and construction. The Education and Workforce Development Honors Award, administered by the Texas Capital Bank Foundation, is a competitive grant program that supports innovative nonprofit organizations in Texas. With $50,000 grants for housing and workforce programs, and a $100,000 grant for veterans' services, this award aims to empower organizations that provide essential entrepreneurial resources to help individuals launch and grow sustainable businesses, ultimately benefiting low- and moderate-income communities.

The Housing Solutions Honors Award, provided by the Texas Capital Foundation, aims to support nonprofits focused on enhancing housing stability and generational wealth through education and planning. The award offers two grants of $50,000 and one of $100,000, specifically targeting organizations that assist low- to moderate-income families, veterans, and first responders. Eligible nonprofits must have a proven record of service in Texas and comply with specific funding criteria.

The Star Honors Award, offered by the Texas Capital Foundation, recognizes outstanding nonprofit organizations in Texas focusing on Housing Solutions, Education, and Workforce Development. It provides two grants of $50,000 and one grant of $100,000 to support innovative programs addressing critical community needs, especially for veterans and first responders. Eligible nonprofits must demonstrate a minimum three-year performance record and deliver direct services to low- and moderate-income populations within designated Texas areas.

The Forever Austin Fund Grant offers support for urgent and systemic needs in Central Texas, focusing on economic mobility, health, and environmental sustainability. Through collaborative efforts, grants will be awarded to eligible 501(c)(3) organizations, with amounts ranging from $5,000 to $50,000. This fund aims to empower communities by addressing barriers and fostering long-term growth, with a commitment to improving health outcomes and preserving natural resources. Applications are welcome from diverse organizations serving the Central Texas region.

Fellowship for Equitable Development

The National Community Reinvestment Coalition matches top-level graduate degree students with premiere community development organizations.

NCRC is looking for fellowship projects that move the needle on housing, small business development, and workforce development. The NCRC Fellowship cultivates the next generation of community development leaders and empowers them to tackle the issues of tomorrow. We invest in community health and well-being through grantmaking and strategic collaborations. From data-driven, home-grown regional strategies to technical assistance, Texas Health Community Impact collaborates with community leaders to offer creative grant opportunities to North Texas organizations with a mutual desire to transform health and well-being in innovative ways.

Texas Health Community Impact Grants (Request for Proposals)

Texas Health Community Impact requests proposals to fund local organizations collaborating on innovative solutions that address barriers to community health and wellbeing. Up to $5 million is available across nine counties for the 2027-2028 grant cycle.

These community health improvement grants are made possible by Texas Health Resources—a faith‑based, nonprofit health system that cares for more patients in North Texas than any other provider.

Key Requirements

Applications must fulfill four key requirements: 1. Propose an innovative approach. 2. Demonstrate a collaborative effort between two or more organizations. 3. Align with strategic priorities. 4. Promote sustainability. Read Grant Key Requirements.

Project Implementation

Applicants must demonstrate the ability to begin implementing activities within four months of the execution of the MOU. Exceptions may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Prior Applicants

Organizations that applied for a previous Texas Health Community Impact grant cycle and were not awarded are eligible to apply. 

Request for Proposals by Region

The Texas Health Community Impact Grant requests proposals by regions: 1) Collin Region; 2) Dallas and Kaufman Region; 3) Denton, Wise and Parker Region; 4) Southern Region; and 5) Tarrant Region.

Texas Health is investing a total of $5 million in grants across its five regions, which spans nine counties. Groups seeking to work collaboratively on innovative upstream approaches to address priorities identified in each region are encouraged to apply for this competitive funding opportunity.

Southern Region

Grantmaking Approach, Goals and Objectives

For the 2027-2028 grant cycle strategy, the Southern Region’s aim is to decrease caregiver stress by increasing community supports in Erath County 76401 and 76446 (Dublin, Huckabay, Lingleville, Morgan Mill and Stephenville); and Johnson County 76009, 76031, 76033, 76059 and 76093 (Alvarado, Cleburne, Keene and Rio Vista).

For this grant, Texas Health Community Impact Southern Region uses the John Hopkins Bayview definition of caregiver, which is “a person who tends to the needs or concerns of a person with shortor long-term limitations due to illness, injury or disability.”

To accomplish this, a two-phased approach will be taken in each county.

• Phase One: Award small grants to several collaboratives to ignite innovative, coordinated program development in alignment with the region’s aim. A collaboration quality assessor will be leveraged to determine the quality of the collaboratives. To strengthen program evaluation development, grant participants will consult with Texas Health Community Impact’s thirdparty evaluator.

• Phase Two: From the Phase One grants, a larger grant will be awarded to the strongest collaborative with the most innovative plan, so they can implement their program. 

This RFP seeks proposals for Phase One. Collaboratives are not expected to have a specific program in mind at the time of application. The purpose of the Phase One grant is to collaboratively create an innovative plan, which will be submitted as a Phase Two proposal. It is expected, however, that collaboratives include members who can articulate a shared vision for how they will work together through this process.

The Rural Business Development Grants in Texas provide crucial assistance to small rural businesses, aimed at fostering economic growth in underdeveloped areas. This program targets entities with fewer than 50 employees and less than $1 million in revenue, prioritizing smaller funding requests. Eligible projects include training, technical assistance, and economic development initiatives, ensuring that funds are effectively utilized to enhance community and business development in rural locations.

Retirees of Regions and its affiliated companies are eligible for the Matching Gift Program for up to 5 years after retirement (the gift date must be within the first 5 years of retirement). Regions will match donations of $25 or more, up to a total of $1,000 per year per retiree.
