Christopher H Knorr Memorial Scholarship

In July of 2022, Chris Knorr unexpectedly passed away. Chris Knorr was a loving father, baseball/softball/basketball coach in the area, an active member of his church, and a friendly face to all in the community. Chris always believed everyone should follow their heart and make an impact in any way possible. Our goal is to raise money for scholarships for South Carroll, Century and Liberty High School that goes to 1 or 2 seniors at each school who is involved in the community and made an impact, and to continue on his legacy.

• Scholarships are one time only.
• The amount of the award will vary based upon the earnings of the fund, minimum $500 per scholarship.
• The money shall be transmitted by the Foundation directly to the desired college or university and applied directly to the student's tuition and books. The monies shall not be remitted to the scholarship winner.

WHS Student Senate James Barnes Memorial Scholarship Fund

The purpose of the WHS Student Senate James Barnes Memorial Scholarship is to provide a yearly scholarship(s) for a college- bound WHS senior(s) who will attend an accredited college or university. Applicants must demonstrate community involvement through volunteer work in a club, religious, and/or civic organization. School involvement would be demonstrated through work in school-sanctioned clubs, sport teams, or other recognized school extra-curricular activities. Leadership must be demonstrated by holding a position of authority within the school and/or community. (i.e., Student Senate, school-sanctioned club or community/civic organization, etc.) Although academics are an important component of this scholarship, the primary emphasis for recipient determination deals with how active a student’s participation is in his or her school and community.

WHS Class of 1930/ E. Rita Kolb Nursing Scholarship

This scholarship was established in 1981 by the Westminster High School Class of 1930 to provide scholarships for graduating seniors of the Carroll County Career & Technology Center in the Nursing program. It is open to ALL students in the Nursing program.

Eugene Curfman Foundation Scholarship

The purpose of the Eugene Curfman Foundation Scholarship is to give scholarships to two graduating seniors from either Francis Scott Key High School or a home school program in the Taneytown, Union Bridge, New Windsor areas for college and/or trade school assistance in concentration fields of Accounting; Emergency Service; Cyber Security, and Trades (ie. electrical; plumbing; masonry; HVAC; vehicle mechanics; and building construction). The scholarship will be offered to recipients for additional years based on meeting specified criteria. The scholarship has been established as his way of paying forward his success that was enabled by having received scholarships to attend college.

The money shall be transmitted by the Community Foundation of Carroll County directly to the desired college or university and applied directly to the student's tuition and books. The monies shall not be remitted to the FUND winner.

This scholarship will be offered to recipients on a continuing basis for up to three additional consecutive years (or the completion of the student’s training program, whichever is less) based on maintaining a minimum GPA of 3.0 and providing an official transcript to the selection committee.

The Ryan Legacy Scholarship

Melanie Ryan was an incredible mother, wife, friend, and nurse for almost 30 years. Her kindness, generosity, and compassion will be remembered forever by those who had the honor to know and love her. She passed away from Metastatic Triple Negative Breast Cancer in June of 2024. Her husband Tom was the love of her life and also and incredibly kind and caring husband, father, manager and friend. He passed away from Hodgkins Lymphoma in November of 2022. This scholarship remembers this beautiful couple by assisting graduating high school seniors and current college students in pursuing a college degree. Preference will be given to student athletes in memory of Tom’s love of sports and students pursuing a healthcare related degree in memory of Melanie’s incredible nursing skills and heart.

The Margaret Taylor Kiracofe Memorial Scholarship

The Margaret T. Kiracofe Scholarship Fund was created to honor Mrs. Kiracofe, an outstanding teacher. The majority of her career was spent in elementary schools. She had the ability to excite and inspire learning by engaging students in creative projects. As someone who worked to put herself through college, Margy’s friends and colleagues felt a scholarship would be the best way to honor her legacy.

School Nurses Association of Carroll County (SNACC) Scholarship

The purpose of the School Nurses Association of Carroll County (SNACC) Scholarship is to provide scholarships to graduating seniors from any Carroll County Public High School planning to pursue a career in nursing. The scholarship is intended to help defray first year college expenses.

All income in the Fund shall be used for fund purposes.

Rita M Medeiros (Rita's Closet) Scholarship

The purpose of the Rita's Closet Scholarship is to honor the memory of Rita Marie Medeiros by providing scholarship (s) for graduating seniors at any public High School in Carroll County, Maryland, and the Carroll County Career and Technology Center. Because Rita was a very caring friend and spent much of her short life, giving others her time, her friendship and ultimately her organ donor gift, the Rita's Closet Scholarship will be awarded to a graduating student (s) pursuing an undergraduate degree at an accredited college, university or technical school who meets the criteria established for the fund.

Fighter Foundation Scholarship

The purpose of The Fighter Foundation Scholarship is to honor those with similar adversities as Krisha Lee Davis. Having served in the United States of America military and survived cancer, she has overcome many adversities and has never given up on herself. The Fighter Foundation Scholarship will be awarded to a graduating or continuing student at a High School in Carroll County Maryland pursuing an undergraduate degree at an accredited college or university who meets the criteria established for the fund.

Everybody's Quilt Guild Textile Arts Scholarship

The purpose of the Everybody’s Quilt Guild Textile Arts Scholarship is to provide a scholarship for a student who is a resident of Carroll County, Maryland, graduating from a Carroll County High School, a private High School or a student who is Home Schooled who has been accepted at an accredited College or University and who will be pursuing studies in the field of Textile Arts and meets all the criteria established for the fund.

Georgia E Frank Scholarship

The mission of the Georgia E. Frank Scholarship Fund is to support graduating Carroll County high school students of all backgrounds and needs as they pursue their dreams of being a teacher. As Georgia was a life-long Family and Consumer Science teacher in Carroll County, this fund aims to invigorate, encourage, and support aspiring young educators as they transition from high school to the collegiate stages of their training. As a teacher, Georgia encouraged her students to love what they do, to do it well, in order to make the world around them a better place to live. In an effort to encourage and retain membership, the Carroll Association of School Employees has established CASE SCHOLARSHIP FOR HIGHER LEARNING, a scholarship fund of the Community Foundation of Carroll County, Inc. Catherine Anne Mullikin Memorial Scholarship

The Catherine Anne Mullikin Memorial Scholarship is sponsored by “Catherine’s Cause” a Carroll Community Foundation Fund. A drunk driver killed Catherine in 1998 and her family is keeping her memory alive by offering scholarships for students pursuing a degree in education. Student must maintain full time enrollment status (12 or more credit hours) during the entire semester that the scholarship award has been designated. The scholarship is based on academic achievement, community service and extracurricular activities.

Michael W. Wantz Scholarship

The purpose of the Michael W. Wantz Scholarship is to honor the values, attributes, and dedication of Michael W. Wantz, the diesel teacher at Carroll County Career & Technology Center. This award is to provide scholarships for graduating seniors in Carroll County, Maryland who have attained their secondary-school diploma from the Carroll County Career and Technology Center in Diesel Technology. The scholarships shall be for those students to attend schools of higher learning or a certified program appropriate to enhance their capacities and capabilities in Diesel Technology.

Charles and Claudia Lewis STEM Scholarship

The Charles and Claudia Lewis STEM Scholarship was established in 2004 by his family. Mr. Lewis did not have the advantage of monetary funds for college but he strongly believed in the value of education. As a result, during his lifetime, he tried to provide that support to others to help them achieve their educational goals. The purpose of this Fund is to provide a scholarship for a graduating senior of a Carroll County, Maryland, High School who will pursue a college education in Engineering, who has a financial need, who has exhibited academic achievement, and who has demonstrated involvement in his or her community. The student must have been enrolled at a Carroll County High School for his or her entire junior and senior years. Students enrolled in Engineering courses at the Carroll Career and Technology Center will be given special consideration.

Dr. Saleem Shah Memorial Scholarship

The Dr. Saleem A. Shah Memorial Scholarship is sponsored by Catherine’s Cause, a Carroll County Community Foundation Fund. Dr. Shah a leading Psychologist with the National Institute of Health was hit head on in November of 1992 by a Drunk Driver on his way home. He left a family with a wife, six daughters and eight grandchildren at that time. Dr. Shah’s daughters regularly volunteer with Catherine’s Cause and are strong advocates on working to alert the public on the dangers of Drinking and Driving. To honor Dr. Shah’s memory the family along with Catherine’s Cause are offering this Scholarship in the field of Mental Health in his honor.

Meghan Lynn Rippeon Memorial Scholarship

The purpose of the Meghan Lynn Rippeon Memorial Scholarship is to honor the life of Meghan Lynn Rippeon by providing a scholarship for any senior graduating from a Carroll County, Maryland high school who has shown academic achievement and is pursuing an education in early childhood development and who has been accepted at an accredited College, University, or Technical School. Applications will also be accepted from continuing students, i.e. those that are already in college, who meet the criteria established for this scholarship.

John Grason Steffey Scholarship

The purpose of the John Grason Steffey Scholarship is to provide scholarships for two graduates of Williamsport, Maryland, public high school, and if none qualify, then unto two high school students residing within Williamsport and the general vicinity thereof in Washington County, Maryland. The scholarships shall be for those students who may need or request assistance to attend schools of higher learning appropriate to develop their capacities and capabilities. Need for financial assistance shall be taken into consideration.

The amount of the award will vary based upon the earnings of the trust; but in no event shall be less than $1500 per year per scholarship.

The scholarships shall be for a maximum of four consecutive academic years. After the initial award the recipient must reapply to the selection committee each year. To be eligible to receive the subsequent years' award, the recipient must submit an official transcript from the institution they attend showing a 2.5 grade point average, and submit a letter of recommendation from an instructor or administrative person from the institution they attend.

Marie’s Courageous Fight Lacrosse Award

Marie’s Courageous Fight Lacrosse Scholarship honors the resilience, determination, and spirit of student-athletes who refuse to be defined by adversity. Inspired by Marie’s legacy of strength, perseverance, and courage this scholarship recognizes lacrosse players (1 male, 1 female) who have faced significant hardship yet continued to pursue excellence—on the field, in the classroom, and within their community.

Reverend Moses J. Jones Scholarship

This scholarship has been made possible by the generosity of Reverend Moses J. Jones, who established the Reverend Moses J. Jones Endowment Scholarship of the Community Foundation for Muskegon County. Born in 1898, Reverend Moses J. Jones was one of Muskegon's most beloved ministers. The Pastor of John Wesley A.M.E. Zion Church of Muskegon for 36 years, he founded the Urban League of Muskegon and received numerous honors including the Ambassador of Goodwill Award. Reverend Jones committed his life to building racial harmony in Muskegon. He helped establish this Scholarship in 1982 to make awards to deserving youths based on their contributions to their community, school, and church. Through this, Reverend Moses J. Jones continues to support the values of community awareness and harmony by granting the lasting gift of education to Muskegon-area youth. Reverend Jones died in 1989. His legacy lives on through this fund.

Homer Alumni Association Scholarship Fund

The Homer Alumni Association Scholarship Fund was established in 2020 to support Homer Community Schools graduates in their pursuit of post-secondary educational attainment. Annually, scholarships are awarded from the fund in honor of DeWayne Ballentine and the Homer High School Class of 1959. Dewayne Ballentine was a Homer graduate and founding father of the Homer Alumni Association. He served as a board member and started the annual banquet. This scholarship was set up in his memory in 1985.  The Class of 1959 Scholarship began in 2019 by class members and friends, in honor of their 60th anniversary to recognize Homer Community Schools for providing them a quality education.

Harry & Helen Davidson Family Scholarship Fund

The Davidson Family Scholarship was established to honor the commitment to education and service to the Battle Creek community of Harry and Helen Davidson. Harry, who served as superintendent of the Battle Creek Public Schools for a number of years, who upon his retirement from the education field, became the first executive director of the Battle Creek Community Foundation. Much of Harry and Helen's work in this community can be exemplified today through development of our fine educational system, the growth of our Community Foundation, and a strong community value for the education of our young people.

Education / Meritorious / Service Awards

The Educational/Meritorious/Service awards recognize individuals who have made notable contributions to the welding industry. From educators who have advanced welding knowledge to those who've exhibited outstanding service, these awards celebrate dedication, expertise, and the advancement of welding as both an art and a science.

Elihu Thomson Resistance Welding Award

This award is administered by the American Welding Society and sponsored by the Resistance Welding Manufacturing Alliance (RWMA). It was established in 1985, during RWMA's 50th anniversary, for initial presentation in 1986 to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the invention of resistance welding. Naming of proposed recipients is the responsibility of RWMA.

It is presented annually to a living individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the technology and application of resistance welding, as evidenced by:

• Invention or production of new resistance welding equipment innovations or technology
• A unique application of resistance welding in a production environment
• A technical paper published in the Welding Journal or any other industry-recognized publication, or
• Other contribution the RWMA Governance Committee deems worthy of recognition

Outstanding Achievement Awards

The AWS Outstanding Achievement Awards honor exceptional contributions in welding, spanning historical structures, innovative fabrication, safety, and technical advancements across various categories.

Professor Koichi Masubuchi Award

This award is sponsored by the Center for Ocean Engineering at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The award will be given to one individual who has made significant contributions in the advancement of the science and technology of materials joining through research and development. The individual is to be 40 years old or younger and may live in any part of the world. The recipient need not be a member of AWS.

Complete nomination packets may be submitted for consideration to the AWS Awards Committee and must include an introduction letter of support and a complete resume or CV of the individual's qualifications.

The applicant is requested to indicate his/her birth year in the resume to verify that he/she is 40 years old or younger for the year in which the applicant is nominated.

Education / Meritorious / Service Awards

The Educational/Meritorious/Service awards recognize individuals who have made notable contributions to the welding industry. From educators who have advanced welding knowledge to those who've exhibited outstanding service, these awards celebrate dedication, expertise, and the advancement of welding as both an art and a science.

Dalton E. Hamilton Memorial CWI of the Year Award

This award, administered by the Certification Committee, is given annually by the American Welding Society as a means of recognizing individuals participating in the Senior Certified Welding Inspector (SCWI) and Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) program whose inspection, American Welding Society, professional activity and civic activities are considered to have enhanced public awareness and opinion of both the Society and the CWI program or otherwise have made an outstanding contribution to the science of welding inspection.

This award is recognized at the National, District and Section levels. The nominee is selected at least 12 months in advance of FABTECH. Selections for the Section and District awards are made during the annual District Conference meetings. District and Section level recognitions are automatic but National level nominee information is submitted to the AWS Certification Committee for final selection.

• A nomination form must be submitted, along with an introduction letter of support and a complete resume or CV of the individual’s qualifications. Complete National nominations must be received by February 1st.
