James H. Davis Memorial Scholarship Fund

James Davis came from a proud tradition of farming and public service that stretched back generations. His great-great-grandfather began raising sugar cane and tobacco in Florida in the early 1800s, laying the foundation for a family deeply rooted in agriculture. His grandfather, Amos Davis, served seven terms in the Florida House of Representatives and later as its sergeant-at-arms for three terms.

Jim’s excellence in his field earned him multiple Grower of the Year awards from the Florida Nurserymen and Growers Association. He also served as a board member for the Florida Farm Bureau, contributed to the Allied Trade Show steering committee, and was active in several other trade and civic organizations.

“It is a good industry. I have really enjoyed it,” Jim said in a Nursery Digest article, reflecting his passion for horticulture and agriculture.

Following his death in 1995, Jim’s legacy lives on through a scholarship fund that supports students pursuing degrees in horticulture or agriculture — helping a new generation grow strong roots of their own.

Eligible nonprofits must serve areas where KeyBank operates and adhere to strict ineligibility criteria, including no support for individuals or organizations that discriminate based on various identities.

You are steps away from creating an opportunity to receive full or partial funding of your charitable organization. So that you use your time wisely, we offer the following advice for your efforts:

• As a family foundation, we are prohibited from funding individuals or any entity that is not an IRS-recognized Section 501(c)(3) tax-exempt entity or a Section 509(a)(1), (2), or (3) support organization. Thus, while we cannot award a scholarship to an individual, we can fund a 501(c)(3) charity that provides such scholarships.

• If you qualify as a Section 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization or a support organization pursuant to Section 509(a)(1-3), we will need the IRS Determination Letter confirming as much, as well as a statement signed by your organization’s President or Chief Executive Officer verifying that your organization’s purposes, structure, and operations have not changed substantially since the date of the IRS’s Determination Letter.

• If you are a “supporting organization” under IRS Code section 509(a)(1-3), please provide a list of the public charities that you support. Please also advise whether you are a Type I, Type II, or Type III supporting organization. If you are a Type III supporting organization, please advise whether you are “functionally integrated” with your supported public charity and provide an explanation of that relationship.

This initiative addresses social determinants of health such as access to nutritious food and mental health resources, essential for reducing health disparities. It emphasizes community involvement and sustainable practices, promoting better health outcomes through education, environmental sustainability, and health literacy programs, ultimately striving for a resilient and thriving community.

The Hope Funds for Cancer Research offers a three-year Postdoctoral Fellowship for innovative research in understanding difficult-to-treat cancers. Candidates with MD, PhD, or equivalent degrees can apply, focusing on novel approaches to cancer mechanisms and treatments. The fellowship provides a stipend starting at $56,000, with annual increases, and a travel grant of $1,500 for conferences. This initiative aims to enhance life expectancy through groundbreaking research in cancer treatment and prevention.

The Cultural Facilities Grant supports organizations focused on cultural programming through funding for renovation, construction, or acquisition of cultural facilities. Eligible applicants must conduct arts and cultural programming at least 85% of the time, meet legal status requirements, and have matching funds documented. The program excludes funding for projects such as parking facilities and commercial endeavors. This grant aims to enhance the cultural landscape in Florida by ensuring facilities are accessible and adequately funded for community engagement.

The Specific Cultural Projects (SCP) Grant, funded by the Florida Department of State: Arts and Culture, aims to support cultural projects, programs, and exhibitions that align with the state's cultural objectives. This grant is available to both organizations and individual Florida artists to promote arts education, community development, and enhance cultural partnerships. Eligible entities include public entities and non-profit corporations. The application period runs from July 1 to June 30.
