Best Operating Grants for Nonprofits

The Path2Success Scholarship, funded by the Norwalk Community College Foundation, supports students with GPAs between 2.00 and 3.20 by providing academic coaching and financial assistance. Launched in 2018, this scholarship aims to help students overcome challenges to their academic progress. Recipients receive sessions with a Success Coach, financial aid for tuition and fees, and a $150 gift card for each completed semester, fostering a pathway to educational success in the Fairfield County community.

The Stanzel Family Foundation provides grants focused on enhancing education and health in the Schulenburg and Weimar communities. The Lurleen V. Holland Church Improvement Grant, provided by the Community Foundation of West Georgia, supports capital improvements for predominately African American churches in Carroll County, Georgia. This grant prioritizes brick-and-mortar projects that enhance church facilities, enabling them to better serve their communities. Eligible churches must have been established for at least 10 years and provide a 25% cash match for project costs. Limitations exist on funding for furnishings and grants per church over a five-year period.

About the Fund

Soccer was more than a game to Terry, it was his passion. Through his involvement as coach, referee, booster and administrator, he shared his passion with the youth of Northern Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast. Born in England, Terry immigrated to the U.S. in the 1950s and settled in Riviera Beach. He graduated from Suncoast High School, worked his way through college and became a Certified Public Accountant, opening his own practice in North Palm Beach.

AGC Education and Research Foundation

Thanks to visionary volunteer leadership of AGC industry leaders, the AGC Education and Research Foundation, founded in 1968, has for 50 years made good on its commitment to support the future of our industry through its robust scholarship program and innovative projects.

AGC Graduate Scholarships

The AGC Education and Research Foundation offers undergraduate and graduate level scholarships to students enrolled in ABET , ACCE and some ATMAE-accredited construction management or construction related engineering programs.

The Dale Hileman Legacy Fund, in collaboration with the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio, provides annual grants to public and nonprofit organizations aimed at fostering economic growth across 16 counties in eastern Ohio. This initiative honors Dale Hileman's commitment to community development, promoting collaboration among local entities to improve quality of life. Counties eligible for funding include Athens, Belmont, Carroll, Columbiana, Coshocton, Guernsey, Harrison, Holmes, Jefferson, Monroe, Morgan, Muskingum, Noble, Perry, Tuscarawas, and Washington.

The Highway Safety Grant in Alaska is designed to enhance traffic safety across various priority areas including impaired driving, police traffic services, and roadway safety. Managed by the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities, this grant encourages local agencies to match at least 20% of project costs, promoting sustainability and project continuation. Applications must be submitted by the specified deadline to be considered for funding.

Simons-Minkler Scholarship Endowment Fund

This endowment was created upon receipt of a bequest from Katharyn Simons.

Miss Simons (1885-1969) lived her early years in Yorkville. Upon graduation from Beloit College, she taught at Morton High School in Cicero for thirty-six years.

After her retirement, she returned to Yorkville. Her maternal grandfather was an early settler of Kendall County and developed the famous “Minkler Apple.”

Simons bequeathed a large portion of her estate to the Foundation in honor of her family.

The Simons-Minkler Fund provides income for scholarships to graduates of East Aurora, West Aurora or Yorkville High School.

Created in 1970, the fund was established as an endowment in 1989.

Thomas P. Sperry Memorial Scholarship Endowment Fund

This fund was established by the family and friends of Dr. Thomas P. Sperry.

Thomas Sperry (1948-1998) practiced Orthodontics in the Aurora area for twenty years.

He was a graduate of the University of Illinois College of Dentistry and had served as an associate professor in the Department of Orthodontics at the University of Illinois in Chicago.

In addition to his numerous professional affiliations, Dr. Sperry was an avid historian, writer and mountain climber.

Scholarships from this fund are reserved for students pursuing studies in the liberal arts curriculum with preference to those students majoring in history.

Created in 1998, the fund was established as an endowment in 1999.

The Dr. Seuss Foundation aims to enhance literacy through strategic partnerships and funding. While there will be no public granting cycle for 2025, the Foundation is planning for 2026. It supports evidence-based programs that prepare children for school, particularly those from underserved communities. Key priorities include improving instructional quality, expanding early education services, and promoting arts and environmental education. The foundation values creativity, excellence, and community engagement while focusing on diverse and equitable opportunities.

First Generation College Scholarship

Taos Community Foundation is offering a premier scholarship award to High School Graduates from Taos County wishing to pursue advancement of higher education. This scholarship is to enable a student as a first- generation learner in their family to seek higher education.

The First Generation College Scholarship is a comprehensive college scholarship that pays towards the costs of tuition and fees, room and board, books and supplies. It is a supplemental or last dollar scholarship and therefore secondary to all other grants /scholarships awarded to the scholar. After considering the student’s other community or academic institutional awards, the First Generation Scholarship Fund will pay toward the remaining costs of the scholar’s education. The amount of the scholarship is unique to each scholar and can vary from year to year, and could be up to an annual award of $15,000.00 per year for 4 years.

This is a 4 year award provided a 3.0 GPA is maintained during the award period and that all required paperwork is submitted in accordance with the Scholarship Agreement that will be presented at the time of selection.

This scholarship also allows for students to enroll at a University that is part of the Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE), as administered by the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (www.wiche.edu). This regional tuition-reciprocity agreement enables students from WICHE states to enroll in some 145 participating public institutions at 150 percent of the enrolling institution’s resident tuition.

The PCF Community Impact Grant, administered by the Philadelphia Cultural Fund, offers $10,000 grants to small arts and culture organizations with annual budgets of $500,000 or less. Funded by the William Penn Foundation, the initiative aims to strengthen community roots, expand access to arts, and foster equity. Recipients will also benefit from capacity-building workshops to enhance their operational sustainability. This grant supports organizations that create meaningful cultural experiences and reflect Philadelphia's diverse voices.

Thorium Action Group/Kerr-McGee Chemical Corporation Scholarship Endowment Fund

This fund provides scholarships to graduating high school seniors who reside within West Chicago Community High School District 94 in the State of Illinois.

It is a living legacy that symbolizes the joint effort of the Thorium Action Group, the people of the City of West Chicago, Illinois, their elected representatives, and the Kerr-McGee Chemical Corporation to remove the radioactive thorium contamination from the community.

This fund was established on September 17, 1997 with a generous donation from the Kerr-McGee Chemical Corporation. Kerr-McGee made the donation in the name of the Thorium Action Group because of the group’s fight to clean up the city.

Friedman Family Scholarship

The Friedman Family Scholarship was established in 1998. The award is available to graduating seniors in Taos and western Colfax counties for students pursuing advancement of higher education. The scholarship is available to those applying to 4 year colleges and universities as well as 2 year vocational/trade schools. The award is up to $ 8,000.00 paid out at $2,000 annually for up to four years if a 3.0 GPA is maintained.

Broadband Ready Communities (BBRC) Program

The Broadband Ready Communities (BBRC) Program seeks to increase opportunities for investment in broadband infrastructure deployment within municipalities throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. This program will work to reduce procedural, policy, and permitting barriers to broadband deployment at the municipal level and to encourage broadband infrastructure investment within participating communities.

A participating municipality can register for the program on a rolling basis.

The HCCF Immediate Needs Grant provides quick funding for unforeseen circumstances requiring immediate support, with grants up to $1,500. This grant is ideal for organizations in Huntington County that face sudden needs such as equipment replacement or IT support after a crisis. Eligible applicants include charitable organizations, and they may only receive one grant per calendar year. The funder, Huntington County Community Foundation, emphasizes timely requests, ensuring support is available when it is most needed.

TCF Teacher Mini Grant

Taos Community Foundation offers this competitive mini grant cycle to teachers and school professionals working with students in Taos and western Colfax counties.

Taos Community Foundation is proud to support local public school teachers and educators. We appreciate your hard work in making this community thrive! This year, teacher mini grants are open to all educators in Taos county. Any school personnel who work directly with students – teachers, counselors, librarians, etc, may apply for grants up to $200.

This supplemental grant is intended for educational projects, and does not fund operational or capital expenses.

Trembacki & Hultgren Families Scholarship Endowment Fund

This fund provides scholarships to students graduating from East Aurora or West Aurora High School who will be entering the field of teaching.

Raymond Trembacki (1925-2000) was a teacher in the West Aurora School System from 1952 to 1959.

He then moved to East Aurora High School to develop the photography curriculum. In 1983, he continued his teaching career at the College of DuPage.

Janice Trembacki (1927-1997) was an English teacher in the West Aurora School System. She taught at Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson Junior High Schools. She retired in 1990.

Mr. and Mrs. Trembacki were graduates of Illinois State University (BA) and Colorado State College (MA).

Dale and Rae Jean Hultgren also had long and distinguished careers as educators for the Aurora schools.

In 1953, Dale Hultgren joined his sister Janice Trembacki in the West Aurora School System. He taught at Freeman Elementary School and later he taught science at Thomas Jefferson Junior High School.

Mr. Hultgren is a graduate of Illinois State University (BS) and the University of Colorado (MS).

Rae Jean Hultgren (1935-2008) taught in the Business Education Department at West Aurora High School, where she later became the department chairperson.

She also taught at East Aurora High School in the Business Education Department until her retirement in 2000. Mrs. Hultgren is a graduate of the University of Iowa (BBA and MA).

Women Give Taos (WGT) Grant

Nonprofit organizations serving women, children, and families in Taos and Western Colfax Counties are invited to apply for the Women Give Taos (WGT) grant cycle. This funding is designed to support an impactful and transformative project or an enhancement of service proposal, while meeting WGT funding priorities.

Taos Community Foundation (TCF) is dedicated to strengthening our region, ensuring Taos and western Colfax counties are vibrant places for all. Our mission is rooted in connection—supporting local nonprofits, addressing urgent needs, and fostering a spirit of generosity that unites us.

Women Give Taos (WGT), a giving circle of Taos Community Foundation, brings women together from across our community to step forward and engage in collective giving and grantmaking. The mission of WGT is to unite women as leaders and change agents while creating opportunities for families in Taos and western Colfax counties.

Through an annual $20,000 grant to a local nonprofit, Women Give Taos helps families in need while empowering each other to create positive change through local solutions.

United Punjabis of America Excellence in Community Service Scholarship Fund

This scholarship in the amount of $1,000 will be awarded annually to two eligible applicants. This scholarship is a one-year award and is non-renewable.

The Community Foundation of Marquette County distributes over $130,000 annually in scholarships to benefit aspiring students in Marquette County.

Barbara Hammerberg Memorial Scholarship Fund

Provides scholarships to students in Marquette and Delta Counties for post-secondary education. 

Distribution Process

• CFMC scholarship recipients will be contacted in June requesting student enrollment verification
• Scholarships can only be distributed once student’s information is received
• Scholarships will be distributed to the college/school/university indicated by student
• The scholarship must be used for tuition and fees required for the enrollment or attendance of the student at a qualifying educational institution; fees, books, supplies, and equipment required for courses of instruction at such an educational institution; and room and board, within the first semester of first year of students enrollment
• That year’s recipient must claim the scholarship within that fiscal year to be distributed (by 12/31/xx)

Gwinn Community Schools Alunni Scholarship

Be a graduating senior of Gwinn Area Community Schools pursuing higher education and are residents of the Gwinn Area School District and hold at least a 3.0 GPA.

• Scholarships can only be distributed once student’s information is received
• Scholarships will be distributed to the college/school/university indicated by student
• The scholarship must be used for tuition and fees required for the enrollment or attendance of the student at a qualifying educational institution; fees, books, supplies, and equipment required for courses of instruction at such an educational institution; and room and board, within the first semester of first year of students enrollment

The Guy Marshall Scholarship Fund, established in 2008 by the advisors of the Cecil G. Marshall Fund, aims to support students from Hawaii pursuing their undergraduate education in the continental U.S. This scholarship emphasizes financial need and requires a minimum GPA of 3.0. Eligible applicants must be high school seniors or entering freshmen from Hawaii and intend to maintain support throughout their four years of study.

Jack Desha Witt Education Endowment Fund

This endowment was created by a bequest received from the estate of Jack Desha Witt (1907-1990) as a memorial to his father Dr. John D. Witt (1874-1938). Dr. Witt was a physician and surgeon who practiced in Aurora during the early 1900’s.

The Jack Desha Witt Education Endowment Fund provides income to Aurora students entering a pre-medicine course of study, including nursing. Mr. Witt chose the Foundation as a meaningful and permanent way to honor the memory of his father.

Dan and Tracey Stellato Family Scholarship Endowment Fund

Scholarships from this fund are available to residents of the Foundation’s service area.

BEI Holdings is a multi-generational real estate, property management and development firm established in 1959 by the Dempsey Family. BEI Holdings has always remained steadfast in their devotion to communities in the Fox Valley.

Dan and Tracey Stellato have always placed a high level of importance on education for their three sons, Nicholas, Michael and Marc Anthony. The proud parents have watched their sons achieve much success after the boys earned their college diplomas.

The Stellato family would like to help others who look to chart their future with higher education and this scholarship, funded by BEI Holdings, and administered through the Community Foundation, feels like a great way to achieve this important goal.

Drs. Sara & Daniel Susmano Scholarship Fund

In 1989 Aurora physicians, Dr. Sara and Dr. Daniel Susmano, created a scholarship fund within the Community Foundation to assist area Hispanic students entering vocational fields of study.

Dr. Daniel Susmano was an urologist at Dreyer Medical Clinic. He is now retired.

Dr. Sara Susmano was a pediatrician and chief of medical staff at Northern Illinois University Health Services. Sara passed away on October 9, 2013.

Students graduating from East Aurora, West Aurora, or Waubonsie Valley High Schools are eligible for these scholarships.

In establishing this award, the Susmanos were primarily interested in encouraging students to enter vocations related to the field of health care.

Examples of such vocations include service and long-term care workers, physical therapists, medical records administrators and technicians, occupational therapists, and radiologists.
