Helpful Harvest Grant Round

Presidential Pathology Scholarship

This scholarship allows the sitting CAP President to personally support educational creativity, expand awareness of pathology, and connect communities through the CAP Foundation’s mission to develop tomorrow’s pathology leaders. This scholarship is established in honor of each sitting CAP President, as a commitment to the CAP Foundation’s efforts to advance the specialty by supporting creative projects that encourage interest in or expand the reach of pathology. Up to two scholarships will be supported each year. Ranging from $500-$1,500 per awardee, to be used toward the selected project(s).

Each year the sitting CAP President will select a focus area to support based on at least one of the CAP Foundation’s Five (5) Pillars. CAP Foundation Five Pillars:

• Global: Expands global pathology access, capacity, training, and equity.
• Future Leaders: Builds pipeline through learning, leadership, mentorship, and awards.
• Ethics, Research, Innovation: Advances ethical practice, discovery, innovation, and diagnostic excellence.

The NAWCA U.S. Standard grants provide competitive matching funds to support partnerships aimed at the long-term protection, restoration, and enhancement of wetlands and associated upland habitats in the U.S. These projects benefit migratory birds and promote ecological sustainability. A 1:1 match is required. The program seeks to improve wetland ecosystems, ensuring the conservation of waterfowl and other wildlife, while fulfilling international conservation obligations.

Wide Wide World Fund

The Wide Wide World Fund was established by Maggie Burns and Roy Bellhorn to support nonprofits in advancing their missions and to help students pursue higher education. Upon their passing in 2024, Maggie and Roy ensured that their legacy would continue by creating a fund dedicated to supporting youth in Winters, CA.

The Sacramento Region Community Foundation (the Foundation), in partnership with Yolo Community Foundation, is proud to announce the Wide Wide World Grant. The purpose of the Wide Wide World is to promote educational and cultural enrichment for students in Winters schools that will open a wider world to them.

We will consider proposals in two categories (though we may choose to fund proposals in only one category, depending on the strength of the proposals): Programmatic Applications and Capacity Building Applications.

• The committee would entertain proposals with amounts above the caps for these two categories for truly transformational initiatives.
• Organizations may submit more than one application, but we do not expect to fund more than one application per organization.

Programmatic Funding

Organizations applying for programmatic funding do not need to be based in Winters in order to apply, however the funding must directly benefit the students of Winters and is restricted to projects that support students in Winters schools.

The Kennecott Charitable Foundation supports vulnerable populations in the Salt Lake Region through grants to local charities and non-profits. By raising funds via visitor fees and contributions from local organizations, the foundation aims to assist those in need, including the poor, homeless, veterans, and seniors. With a focus on underserved communities in Salt Lake and Tooele counties, it emphasizes aid to areas adjacent to Kennecott's operations.

The Walking Classroom Grant Program, offered by the Alliance for a Healthier Generation, enables classroom teachers in public schools to receive donated materials for their students. This innovative program promotes physical activity while maintaining instructional time through engaging podcasts. Ideal for grades 3-8, it enhances cognitive function and retention. Schools with the greatest need, both socioeconomically and academically, are prioritized, ensuring that all students can benefit from this unique educational approach.

The Y.O.U.T.H. Grants program, sponsored by the Hillsdale County Community Foundation, aims to enhance the quality of life for youth in Hillsdale County. It funds diverse projects in education, arts, and wellness that actively involve young people. Preference is given to initiatives that reach a broad audience, promote independence, and foster collaboration among organizations. This grant opportunity is open to tax-exempt entities and emphasizes youth participation in project planning and execution.

The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) invites applications for longitudinal cohort studies focusing on HIV and substance use. This initiative aims to foster multidisciplinary research addressing HIV-associated co-morbidities and substance use disorders. The program encourages collaboration with a NIDA-funded Coordinating Center to enhance research agendas that align with NIH-HIV priorities, ensuring impactful policy and practice outcomes in the field of HIV/AIDS and substance use.

The Nick Van Pernis Scholarship Fund, established in memory of Nick Van Pernis, supports students from Hawaii's west side pursuing degrees in Marine Science, Biotechnology, Health Sciences, or Early Childhood Education. Eligible applicants must demonstrate financial need, maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0, and engage in community service. Preference is given to prior recipients who continue to meet requirements. This fund aims to empower students to positively impact the lives of Hawaii residents through their chosen careers.
