Best Operating Grants for Nonprofits

The Floyd Hooker Foundation Mini-Grant offers funding up to $25,000 to support projects that benefit the children of Tioga County. Established by Floyd "Vic" Hooker's testamentary trust, this grant prioritizes initiatives addressing unmet needs in the community. Eligible applicants include nonprofit organizations, educational institutions, and governmental entities. However, organizations receiving grants for two consecutive years for similar projects may not apply in the third year. Applications are accepted twice a year.

Adele Wells Meyer Memorial Scholarship Fund

Scholarship Eligibility

• Graduating high school senior attending a Palm Beach County public or private high school
• Must be a resident of Palm Beach County
• Demonstrate financial need
• Students overall performance reflecting a B or C average

America’s Heroes Scholarship Fund

About the Fund

In the Summer of 2016, five police officers were brutally executed in Dallas, Texas. Jim McDavid sat in his truck listening to the radio commentary, the commentary hit him like a ton of bricks. In that moment, he made the decision to throw his time and resources behind the men and women in blue. Through in-depth research, he discovered that there were very few charities that support fallen law enforcement families, and the money raised was very small in comparison to other notable charities. The McDavid Group Charities supports the educational goals of children and spouses of fallen law enforcement officers. “The America’s Heroes Scholarship Fund” funds scholarships for fallen officer families nationwide. With plans to make sure no child of a fallen officer never has to worry about the financial burden of higher education. Your family has already paid the ultimate sacrifice.

The Dayton Legal Heritage Foundation Fund Grant aims to enhance legal practices in the Greater Dayton area by funding nonprofit organizations that promote legal knowledge and justice awareness. Ava’s Grace Scholarship, founded in 2010, provides vital educational support to students with incarcerated parents or caregivers in Missouri and parts of Illinois. Offering scholarships up to $5,000 annually, it renews through graduation. This initiative promotes hope and community, transforming lives through education. Eligible applicants must demonstrate financial need and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0, while also planning to pursue an accredited degree. This program, part of The Scholarship Foundation of St. Louis, aims to foster a brighter future.

As a tax-exempt, public charity, the SouthCoast Community Foundation offers donors the guidance and flexibility to fulfill their philanthropic goals. We serve a range of charitable individuals, families, and corporations whose main concern is improving the quality of life in our community.

The SouthCoast Community Foundation allocates individual, family, and corporate funds to meet community needs. To date, the organization has distributed over $60 million from more than 200 funds to humanitarian, educational, and cultural organizations in the region.

Scholarship Resources

The SouthCoast Community Foundation is proud to offer scholarship opportunities to students in our community. We manage one of the largest scholarship programs in our area, with more than $800k awarded to local students each year.

Most SouthCoast Community Foundation scholarships are available through our online scholarship portal. Unless otherwise noted, scholarships are available through the Universal Application, which automatically pairs eligible students with all available scholarships.

Amy Edwards Second Wind Initiative Scholarship

The Amy Edwards Second Wind scholarship is available for women who are seeking a way to improve their ability to find meaningful employment and to create positive change within their communities, a “second wind.” This scholarship is for women enrolling in courses at Bristol Community College or the University of Massachusetts - Dartmouth.

The ACCF Women's Fund Grants aim to empower women through competitive funding for 501(c)(3) organizations. These grants, ranging from $1,000 to $5,000, support projects that enhance economic independence, leadership, and skills development. Eligible organizations can apply for funding for program development, equipment, and capital campaigns. First-time applicants must interview with Foundation staff prior to submission, while repeat applicants can choose to do so. Grants are designed to create a community-wide benefit for women.

The Napa Valley Community Foundation offers diverse grant opportunities through Community Impact, Legacy, and Donor Advised Funds, supporting nonprofits addressing local needs. They prioritize effective programs and welcome inquiries about funding ideas. Eligible organizations include public charities, educational institutions, and public agencies. The Foundation seeks to match donor interests with impactful initiatives, fostering collective generosity to tackle Napa County's challenges. The Sgt. David J. Smith Veterans Relief Fund provides financial assistance to veterans and their families in Frederick County, Maryland, who are facing unexpected financial challenges. Nonprofit organizations can apply on behalf of eligible households, ensuring that only those with honorable military discharges benefit. Support is limited to once every 12 months per veteran, and applications are accepted as long as funding is available, making this a critical resource for local veterans in need.

The Security and Preparedness (SAP) Program, supported by the National Science Foundation, promotes fundamental research addressing global and national security issues. It emphasizes intellectual merit and broader impacts, encouraging projects that are methodologically sound and empirically driven. Research areas include international relations, political violence, and peace science, among others. The program also fosters undergraduate research experiences and methodological innovations, while strictly avoiding applied research.

The Highway Safety Grant in Alaska is designed to enhance traffic safety across various priority areas including impaired driving, police traffic services, and roadway safety. Managed by the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities, this grant encourages local agencies to match at least 20% of project costs, promoting sustainability and project continuation. Applications must be submitted by the specified deadline to be considered for funding.

The CPB Student/PDF Research Grant, offered by the Canadian Society of Zoologists, supports students and post-doctoral members with expenses incurred during research visits. It aims to enhance zoological research through supplementary activities, prioritizing applications that assist core research programs. Open to all nationalities at hosting facilities, applicants must be studying at a Canadian university and can submit only one application per year. This grant reflects the society's commitment to inclusion and equality in the field of zoology.

The Michigan Competitive Scholarship supports undergraduate students pursuing their first degree, focusing on financial need and merit. To qualify, applicants must achieve a minimum SAT score of 1200 and file the FAFSA by July 1. Eligible institutions include public universities and non-profit colleges in Michigan. This scholarship aims to increase access to higher education for residents while ensuring students meet specific eligibility criteria, including citizenship and enrollment status.

The Joanna Cornerstone Ministries Scholarship Fund, established by Joanna Cornerstone Ministries, focuses on supporting high school seniors from Cherokee, Clay, or Graham counties in North Carolina. Eligible applicants must be legal residents planning to attend an accredited college or vocational school full-time. Preference is given to students demonstrating financial need. This initiative is part of the Community Foundation of Western North Carolina's broader commitment to fostering educational opportunities in the region.

Our Mission

The Community Foundation’s mission is to improve the quality of life in Greater Kansas City by increasing charitable giving, educating and connecting donors to community needs they care about, and leading on critical community issues.

We offer hundreds of different scholarships for students in and around Kansas City.

Chicken N Pickle Scholarship Fund

The purpose of this scholarship fund is to assist the employees at Chicken N Pickle who have demonstrated a strong work ethic to further their education.

Past recipients must reapply annually to be considered for future awards.

The North Valley Community Foundation traces its history to 1989.

It started as the Chico Community Foundation and was formed by the Chico Chamber of Commerce as a way to make tax-deductible donations to benefit the community. Early examples of programs included a graffiti eradication program and Volunteers In Police Service, or VIPS.

The foundation became independent from the Chico Chamber of Commerce in 1996. The foundation decided to expand its geographic scope and changed its name to North Valley Community Foundation, with the objective of doing work in all of Butte, Glenn and Tehama counties. It later added Colusa County.

Donna Murrill Fund Grant

Donna Murrill memorial fund supports wildfire recovery efforts.

North Valley Community Foundation has awarded more than $108,500 in wildfire recovery grants from a memorial fund set up by Donna Murrill. The largest grant was $25,000 to the Rebuild Paradise Foundation for its gravel grant program that is helping residents save money on home insurance.

The grant from the Donna Murrill Fund provided gravel for defensible space for atleast 50 homes, which in turn allowed homeowners thousands of dollars a year in insurance premiums. 

Murrill, a longtime Durham resident and Butte County Health Department employee, established the fund through her estate for wildfire relief.

OCF manages one of the largest scholarship programs of its kind in the country, awarding thousands of scholarships each year.

Our scholarships support a wide variety of majors, interests and passions. We have scholarships for graduates of specific high schools, current college students and graduate students. Other scholarships support students returning to their educations after time away, for workforce retraining or career advancement.

Embark’s Diversity in Leadership Scholarship

For underrepresented and diverse Oregon residents pursuing their first year of enrollment at an institution of higher education in Oregon. 

Award Information

• Award amount of $10,000 for freshman year; $5,000 for following three years (or until completion of degree)
• Renewable for up to four (years if enrolled full-time)
• Recipient may defer award for up to one year
• If recipient is interested in a career in public policy, public finance or a related field, an interview for the Straub Fellowship will be offered during the junior and senior years.
