Texas Capacity Building and Resiliency Initiative

The goal of this pilot grant initiative is to advance resiliency and capacity building among community-driven organizations by investing in their priorities. These priorities must align with the foundation’s mission to advance mental health in everyday life and at least one of the four strategic focus areas: Community; Partnerships; Policy; and Research, Innovation, and Education (RIE).

About the Initiative

This pilot grant initiative, Texas Capacity Building and Resiliency Initiative, will fund organizations with a total operating budget of $250,000 or less. Each grantee partner will receive a two-year grant, with award amounts ranging from $15,000 to $75,000 per year (up to 30% of the total operating budget) divided equally across the grant term. The goal of this initiative is to advance resiliency and capacity building among community-driven organizations by investing in their priorities. Each selected organization will have access to additional capacity building support and tools. The foundation is awarding these grants based on their alignment with at least one of these four strategic focus areas: 

Community: Strengthening local leadership and organizations by centering community voices to identify gaps, co-create solutions, and implement and sustain projects that reflect community priorities. 

Partnerships: Fostering strategic partnerships that can amplify mental health impact among various communities across Texas. 

Research, Innovation, and Education (RIE): Expanding knowledge, tools, and practices that study, improve, and provide education on mental health systems and services in Texas. 

Policy: Engaging in activities that empower individuals and community organizations to have a voice in developing policies and systems that impact mental health, resilience, and well-being.  

The Kerr Foundation Inc. offers grants to 501(c)3 organizations, focusing on education, arts, health, and human services. About the Scholarship Award:

This is a renewable scholarship, meaning recipients can renew the award and claim up to 4 years of funding if they meet the requirements and complete the renewal application for each academic year they plan to be enrolled.

Award Amount

• Multiple scholarships available.
• Annual award amount: $5,000.
• The scholarship is comprised of up to four (4) annual awards of $5,000 per academic year. Total of up to $20,000 in scholarship funding per student. 
• Award must be renewed annually. Renewals do not have to be consecutive; no time limit to claim additional years of funding.

What can the scholarship be used for?

The scholarship will be mailed directly to the student's college to be used towards tuition, required academic fees, and/or book expenses. 

Scholarship funding cannot be distributed directly to the student. Funding cannot be used for room and board, rent, meal plans, parking passes, or other similar living expenses.

The Pay it Forward Scholarship, offered by the San Antonio Area Foundation, supports graduate students pursuing degrees in Physical or Occupational Therapy. This renewable scholarship is available to full-time students who maintain a GPA of at least 2.75 and demonstrate a commitment to their field. Applicants must be residents of Bexar County, Texas, and plan to attend an accredited institution. The scholarship covers tuition, fees, and books, making higher education more accessible for dedicated students.

The Great Texas Birding Classic offers conservation grants to support projects across Texas, funded through team registration fees and corporate sponsorships. Over 24 years, it has allocated over $1 million for avian habitat restoration and nature tourism initiatives. McCoy Scholarship Fund

The McCoy Scholarship Fund was opened in early 2002, making it one of our most tenured scholarship funds that is still active. The McCoy Scholarship was created to support graduating seniors of Wichita County high schools as they pursue any undergraduate degree at a public Texas university or college. The McCoy Scholarship is one of our largest scholarships each year, awarding $10,000 per academic year with the potential to be renewed for up to four years based on cumulative GPA. Must be U.S. citizen.

The Small Rural Hospital Improvement Program (SHIP) aims to enhance healthcare access in rural Texas by providing funding to small hospitals with 49 beds or fewer. This initiative supports the acquisition of essential equipment, training, and technology to comply with healthcare regulations and improve service delivery. SHIP funding priorities emphasize quality outcomes through programs like MBQIP and ICD-11 readiness, ensuring that rural hospitals can effectively participate in value-based care initiatives.

Whiteis Fine Arts and Agriculture Scholarship Fund

Ms. Bonnie Whiteis opened the Whiteis Fine Arts and Agriculture Scholarship Fund in 2008 to benefit graduating seniors from Archer or Wichita County high schools. The Whiteis Scholarship can be used at any college or university in Texas in pursuit of an undergraduate degree in Fine Arts or Agriculture. Students must have a 2.5 GPA, financial need, and will be evaluated on participation in high school and community activities. This is a $5,000 per year scholarship, renewable for up to 4 years based on academic performance.

The Scanlan Foundation Grant supports the Roman Catholic Church in Texas by fostering a culture of vocations to the priesthood and holy families. It provides funding across key areas: Marriage, Catholic Education, Evangelization, and Human Dignity. The foundation aims to strengthen vocations through education, community support, and by enhancing access to faith-based resources for dioceses, organizations, and ministries, ensuring a robust future for the Church and its mission.

The Texas Music Office (TMO) is a division within the Office of the Governor's Texas Economic Development and Tourism Office. The TMO promotes the development of the music industry in the state by informing members of that industry and the public about the resources available in the state for music production. The TMO serves as an information clearinghouse for the Texas music industry and assists more than 15,000 patrons each year. The TMO is accepting applications for grant projects that will benefit music-related education and community programs sponsored by a nonprofit organization based in Texas.
