The Children's Guild Foundation’s mission is to make financial grants and to serve as advocates to 501(c) (3) non-profit organizations serving children with special needs throughout the eight counties of Western New York. To accomplish this mission, it strives to form working partnerships with healthcare professionals, medical researchers, educators and therapeutic recreational experts who are dedicated to meeting the ongoing challenges that affect children with special needs and their families.

With purpose and passion, The Children's Guild Foundation seeks to be a catalyst for impactful and effective change by funding opportunities that will allow children with developmental, medical, intellectual, learning, behavioral and mental health issues achieve their highest potential.

The Foundation seeks from its grantees actions that will attain opportunities and possibilities. It values interdependency, communication and learning, innovation, collaboration to leverage greater impact, informed leadership, and inclusiveness and respect for others.

The Foundation ensures that its grant making and advocacy efforts are not only relevant, effective and efficient, but also mindful of the opportunity gap between children and young adults with special needs and their peers.

We Combine Grantmaking With Advocacy

The work of The Children’s Guild Foundation is about more than grant making. As community leaders, we see our grant making and advocacy blending together to ensure our vision is not just an aspiration, but something that can really be done--- something that is within reach.

We respond to the needs around our region by funding research and data, supporting communications and training for nonprofits, spotlighting innovative policy solutions and reform efforts, and even convening bipartisan task forces. When combined with our grant making, we find advocacy to be a powerful tool to advance system change, strengthen relationships with our grantee partners, and enhance learning and understanding around the issues and initiatives that will create better opportunity for differently able children and their families We are proud to shift the conversation toward what we can do.

Our Focus areas

• Developmental disabilities: Defined as a diverse group of severe, chronic conditions due to mental and/or physical impairments, such as Down syndrome or intellectual impairments, these disabilities are detected early on and persist throughout an individual's lifespan. They may cause difficulties in areas such as mobility, communication, learning, self-help and independent living. They can be devastating for families to deal with, changing visions of the future and bringing about immediate challenges in caring for and educating a child.

• Medical issues: These issues include serious conditions such as birth defects, physical disabilities, heart defects, muscular dystrophy and cystic fibrosis; chronic conditions such as asthma and diabetes; and congenital conditions such as cerebral palsy and dwarfism. Children with medical issues may require numerous tests, long hospital stays, expensive equipment and accommodations for disabilities.

• Behavioral issues: In children, these issues include diagnoses like attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism, fetal alcohol spectrum disorder, dysfunction of sensory integration and Tourette syndrome. These conditions require specialized strategies that are tailored to children’s specific abilities and disabilities to limit the stress on families and lower children’s risk for school problems and diminished career possibilities.

• Intellectual disabilities: These disabilities are often characterized by significant limitations both in intellectual functioning, such as learning, reasoning, and problem-solving, and in adaptive behavior, which affects many everyday social and practical skills, such as interacting with others, following rules and routines, managing money and time, and avoiding victimization.

• Learning disabilities: These are neurological disorders that impact the ability to listen, think, speak, read, write, spell or do mathematical calculations. These disorders do not include learning problems that are primarily the result of visual, hearing or motor disabilities, intellectual disabilities, emotional disturbance, traumatic brain injury, or environmental, cultural or economic disadvantage.

• Mental illnesses: These are medical conditions that often result in a diminished capacity for coping with the ordinary demands of life. They disrupt children’s thinking, feeling, mood, ability to relate to others and daily functioning. Serious mental illnesses include major depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), panic disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and borderline personality disorder.

Children's Guild Foundation Grant

The Children's Guild Foundation offers grants to non-profit organizations serving the eight counties of Western New York. The programs, services and projects that the Foundation is seeking to fund should:

• Have a significant and continuing impact. The Foundation is interested in strategies that effect change.
• Intervene at the appropriate level. It seeks to address the causes of problems effecting children with special needs rather than to simply ameliorate their symptoms.
• Offer opportunities for leverage. The Foundation looks to amplify its resources by forming partnerships with organizations, other funders, public funding sources and the private sector.
• Be grounded in the Western New York community. An important aspect of the mission is to develop models with potential application elsewhere for these children and young adults while keeping the geographic focus of the grant awards within this region.
• Be appropriate in relation to the work of other funders. The Foundation seeks to support work that complements rather than duplicates the efforts of other foundations.
• Provide respite and enjoyment for both the child and family from the rigors of their everyday life.

From operational funding to capital projects to capacity building support, The Children's Guild Foundation seeks to make transformational change in every grant it awards. The Foundation serves in the role of partner alongside nonprofit professionals always striving to make positive impact in the lives of children with special needs.

Types of funding considered:

• Existing programs and services, including staffing and equipment
• Creation and implementation of new, innovative approaches to issues related to the Foundation’s interests
• Research projects related to the Foundation’s focus areas
• Capital expenditures and/or improvements related directly to an organization’s mission and programs
• Capacity building

Within our funding focus areas, we provide support for virtually any area of an organization’s programs, services, or operations. But please note that any proposal must have specific objectives and estimated timelines. Grants may be one-year or multi-year (usually no more than three years in length).

Charitable Contributions

Costco Wholesale’s primary charitable efforts specifically focus on programs supporting children, education, and health and human services in the communities where we do business. Throughout the year we receive a large number of requests from nonprofit organizations striving to make a positive impact, and we are thankful to be able to provide support to a variety of organizations and causes. While we would like to respond favorably to all requests, understandably, the needs are far greater than our allocated resources and we are unable to accommodate them all.

Grant Applications

If the request is under consideration, you may be contacted by staff for any additional information needed. Applications are reviewed within 4-6 weeks, and decisions are made based on several factors, including: type of program; identified community need not otherwise available; indication that evidenced based data will establish measurable results of intended outcomes; community collaboration; broad base of financial support; project budget and operating expenses.

The founders of the Creag Foundation believe that meaningful change can only be achieved through hard work, creativity and passion. Background

Draper Richards Kaplan Foundation seeks to dramatically improve the lives of underserved communities across the globe by supporting scalable, innovative, and impact-first solutions that leverage existing systems and stakeholders. Our goal is to find social entrepreneurs with dynamic products or services that have a proven ability to positively impact the lives of underserved people, and nurture those organizations at the early stages by providing capacity, capital, and community.

What We Fund

DRK Foundation funds early-stage social impact organizations solving the world’s biggest social and environmental problems using bold, scalable approaches.

What stage of growth does DRK Foundation typically fund?

Early stage: Organizations who are early stage, which we define as post-pilot and pre-scale. This typically means: 

• Your program, product or service is already being used in the market or in the field, 
• You have early indication that your model is having its intended impact on the beneficiary populations,
• Your organization is relatively young (ideally between two and five years old, although we will consider both younger and older organizations).

Venture funding: In the case of for profits, we typically support Seed to Series A organizations, and never lead rounds; we also generally but not exclusively refrain from participating in financings exceeding a $15M USD post-money valuation.  

Global Impact Cash Grants

Identifying and incubating innovative early-stage solutions. We identify, incubate, and develop innovative early-stage solutions with the highest potential for impact. Global Impact Cash Grants go to nonprofit organizations (NPOs) and nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) that address a significant social problem. We're looking for programs that fit within our investment sectors, focus on the underserved, and use technology to improve the reach and efficiency of services.

Mission

The mission of the Hearst Foundations is to identify and fund outstanding nonprofits to ensure that people of all backgrounds in the United States can build healthy, productive and satisfying lives. Through its grantmaking, the Hearst Foundations support well-established nonprofit organizations that address significant issues within their major areas of focus—culture, education, health and social service—and that primarily serve large demographic and/or geographic constituencies. In each area of funding, the Foundations seek to identify those organizations achieving truly differentiated results relative to other organizations making similar efforts for similar populations. The Foundations also look for evidence of sustainability beyond their support.

Whether providing a scholarship to a deserving student, supporting a rural health clinic or bringing artists into schools so children can see firsthand the beauty of the arts, the Foundations’ focus is consistent: to help those in need, those underserved and those underrepresented in society. Culture Grant

The Hearst Foundations fund cultural institutions that offer meaningful programs in the arts and sciences, prioritizing those that enable engagement by young people and create a lasting and measurable impact. The Foundations also fund select programs nurturing and developing artistic talent. Supported organizations include arts schools, ballets, museums, operas, performing arts centers, symphonies and theaters.

Funding Priorities in Culture

In the recent past, 25% of total funding has been allocated to Culture. Organizations with budgets over $10 million have received 60% of the funding in Culture.

The Hearst Foundations are only able to fund approximately 25% of all grant requests, of which about 80% is directed to prior grantees and about 20% is targeted toward new grantees.

Strengthening and enriching the lives of our neighbors in communities where we live and work.

Vision & Mission

For decades, we have provided resources to seed ideas, foster development initiatives and encourage leadership in nonprofit organizations where imagination and determination are at work enhancing people's lives everyday.

The PNC Foundation's priority is to form partnerships with community-based nonprofit organizations in order to enhance educational opportunities, with an emphasis on early childhood education, and to promote the growth of communities through economic development initiatives.

Foundation Grant

The PNC Foundation supports a variety of nonprofit organizations with a special emphasis on those that work to achieve sustainability and touch a diverse population, in particular, those that support early childhood education and/or economic development.

Education

The PNC Foundation supports educational programs for children and youth, particularly early childhood education initiatives that meet the criteria established through PNC Grow Up Great. Specifically, PNC Grow Up Great grants must:

• Support early education initiatives that benefit children from birth to age five; and
• Serve a majority of children (>50%) from low- to moderate-income families; and
• Adhere to all other standard PNC Foundation guidelines, as outlined on the PNC Foundation website, applicant eligibility quiz, as well as the Foundation policies and procedures; and
• Include one or a combination of the following:
  • direct services/programs for children in their classroom or community;
  • professional development/workforce development for early childhood educators;
  • family and/or community engagement in children’s early learning
• Additional considerations:
  • The grant focus should include math, science, reading, vocabulary development, the arts, financial education, or social/emotional development.
  • The grant recipient, or collaborative partner, should have early childhood education as an area of focus. If the organization’s focus is beyond birth to age five, the specific grant must be earmarked for birth to age five.
  • Incorporate opportunities for PNC volunteers in classroom or non-classroom-based activities.

Economic Development

Economic development organizations, including those which enhance the quality of life through neighborhood revitalization, cultural enrichment and human services are given support. Priority is given to community development initiatives that strategically promote the growth of low-and moderate-income communities and/or provide services to these communities.

• Affordable Housing
  • The PNC Foundation understands the critical need for affordable housing for low-and moderate-income individuals.
  • We are committed to providing support to nonprofit organizations that:
    • give counseling and services to help these individuals maintain their housing stock;
    • offer transitional housing units and programs; and/or
    • offer credit counseling assistance to individuals, helping them to prepare for homeownership.
• Community Development
  • Because small businesses are often critical components of community growth and help foster business development, the PNC Foundation provides support to nonprofit organizations that
    • offer technical assistance to, or loan programs for, small businesses located in low-and moderate-income areas or
    • support small businesses that employ low-and moderate-income individuals.

  • Support is given to social services organizations that benefit the health, education, quality of life or provide essential services for low-and moderate-income individuals and families.

History

Guided by his grandmother Maliheh’s example and teachings, Khosrow Semnani and his wife Ghazaleh established the Semnani Family Foundation in 1993. The foundation’s first grant was issued through CARE International to an orphanage in Romania that cared for newborns affected by HIV. Ameriprise Financial Grantmaking

At Ameriprise Financial, giving back is deeply rooted in our culture. We’ve initiated positive change in the communities where we live and work for more than 120 years. We believe our community involvement enables us to actively live our values. Through grant making, volunteerism and employee and financial advisor gift matching programs, we support a diverse group of over 6,000 nonprofits across the country.

Volunteer engagement is a priority across all focus areas:

The engagement of Ameriprise employees and financial advisors is a critical component of our philanthropy. Whether it’s serving on a nonprofit board, engaging friends, clients and community members in volunteering or providing skills-based support, our relationships with nonprofits go deep. For this reason, we give priority across all focus areas to applications where there is active volunteer engagement of Ameriprise advisors and employees. 

Meeting Basic Needs

At Ameriprise Financial, we help clients achieve financial security and peace of mind. That’s satisfying, meaningful work. We also help the people in our neighborhoods who struggle to meet basic needs such as where their next meal comes from, where they’ll sleep tonight or how they’ll find a higher wage job. We’re here to help them through the three platforms of our Meeting Basic Needs focus area.

Consideration is given to applications addressing the following: 

• Hunger
• Food banks, food shelves and food pantries, daily meal programs or meal services for the homebound
• Hunger-relief programs targeted to meet the special needs of children, ethnic populations or veterans
• Food programs run by nonprofits where hunger is not their sole focus, for example a youth meal program at the YWCA or a backpack program run by a Boys & Girls Club
• Shelter
• Emergency shelter, including youth homelessness
• Transitional housing, permanent supportive housing and efforts to end chronic homelessness
• Housing-first models (programs quickly providing housing and then addressing needed services)
• Achieving and maintaining home ownership, repair and maintenance efforts helping keep seniors, veterans and other populations in their homes 
• Adult Self-Sufficiency: Programs serving adults age 21 and older that help address the following areas:
• Basic hard and soft skills that help adults achieve economic and family stability
• Basic financial and budgeting skills
• Increase employability and wages, including work readiness and job transitions
• Employment of disabled adults

We believe communities should be strong, healthy and resilient. We want livable places for all, where neighbors look out for one another, cultural events are well-attended and people pull together in times of crisis and joy. We work to create economic vitality and cultural enrichment through the following areas of focus.

Volunteer Driven Causes: Ameriprise employees and financial advisors are outstanding volunteers who serve in teams and also as individuals bringing personal skill-sets to nonprofits. Volunteering is part of the culture at Ameriprise and we are proud to support communities through contributions of both service and financial resources. 

Funding for Volunteer-Driven Causes is determined by current Ameriprise volunteerism. In general, funding is in proportion to the size of the Ameriprise volunteer team supporting a nonprofit. A team may include employees, financial advisors and/or staff or a combination of any Ameriprise volunteers.

Our mission is to continue and further the philanthropic legacy of Gardner Cowles, Jr. and the Cowles family, which includes promotion of education, social justice, health, and the arts.

The Founder

The Cowles Charitable Trust was first established in 1948 by Gardner “Mike” Cowles, Jr. (1903-1985). Born into the Cowles publishing family of Des Moines, Iowa, Mike was the youngest of Gardner Cowles and Florence Call Cowles’ six children. A newspaper editor and publisher by trade, he was committed to his family’s traditions of responsible, public-spirited, and innovative journalism as well as philanthropy. 

The Cowles Charitable Trust supports the arts, education, the advancement of ethical journalism, medical and climate research.

Mission

Our mission is to promote the mental health of all New Yorkers, with a particular focus on providing hope and recovery for adults with serious mental illness and children with serious emotional disturbances

Adult Critical Time Intervention Teams

The Office of Mental Health announces funds for the development of five (5) Adult Critical Time Intervention Teams (CTI Teams). These CTI Teams will serve individuals who have mental illness and who have not been successfully engaged in services during or after critical times in transition.

One team will be awarded in each of the following regions:

• Western Region – Cattaraugus County
• Western Region – Erie County
• Tug Hill Seaway Region – St. Lawrence County
• North Country Region – Clinton or Warren County

Target Population

For this request for proposal (RFP) for Adult CTI Teams, the target population is as follows:

• Individuals who are at least age 18 years old (*see “young adult” exception below);
• Individuals with complex mental health conditions, including co- occurring substance use, medical conditions, or co-occurring Intellectual or Developmental Disabilities (I/DD) for agencies who have the experience and knowledge to serve this population; and
• Individuals who would benefit from an intervention during a critical transition in care, including but not limited to:
  • Individuals being discharged from an inpatient psychiatric hospital, who have had long-stay admissions or multiple admissions.
  • Individuals being discharged from Emergency Room (ER)/ Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (CPEP) or other crisis services – who are not otherwise engaged, returning to ER/CPEP multiple times, and who lack community supports.

CTI team’s priority population will be those being discharged from hospital settings as outlined above, however, CTI teams may at times also serve:

• Individuals who have not previously engaged in services after a critical transition.
• Individuals who are precariously housed or homeless or at risk of losing their housing.
• Other specialty populations in a critical time of transition (e.g., coming out of jail or prison.
• Individuals who are 16 years old or older, considered “young adults” in need of transitional support through complex children’s and adult service systems.

A critical aspect of this program is the partnership between CTI Teams and hospitals (inpatient psychiatry units, emergency departments, and CPEPs). CTI staff must have full access to inpatient and ER settings, both to engage in relationship building with individual’s served, and to partner in discharge and aftercare planning with hospital staff. CTI staff bring expertise in the continuum of local behavioral health services and supports, housing options, benefits, and other local resources necessary for community tenure. Hospitals and the CTI Team will work together to identify high need individuals who would benefit from CTI and immediately include CTI in aftercare planning. CTI Teams must use data, such as PSYCKES to assist with an informed discharge planning approach including the assessment of past supports, current providers, and clinical history relevant to the individual’s community tenure and recovery

How and Why Giving Back to Communities is Important to O’Reilly

From O’Reilly Auto Parts’ inception, O’Reilly co-founder C.H. “Chub” O’Reilly instilled the culture of maintaining high standards for every endeavor, including the area of building civic pride. With Chub’s good example to guide them, all four of his children adopted a business and family philosophy of “giving back” to the community as the Company grew and prospered. Supporting a large number of charitable organizations in all communities in which we operate has long been a focal point for O’Reilly Auto Parts. In order to make an even greater impact, the O’Reilly Automotive Foundation was established in 2020.

The O’Reilly Automotive Foundation complements O’Reilly Auto Parts’ role as the Friendliest Parts Store in Town. The Foundation serves as an additional conduit to connect with, support, and strengthen the communities in which O’Reilly Auto Parts’ team members and customers live and work. The Foundation continues the philanthropic legacy of the O’Reilly family as dependable community partners, seeking to support critical services in times of need to build stronger communities.

Mission

The O’Reilly Automotive Foundation strives to have a lasting, positive impact in the communities where O’Reilly Auto Parts’ team members and customers live and work by supporting organizations and programs which address issues critical to improving the quality of life for underserved and underrepresented individuals and families. In particular, the Foundation will concentrate its giving in support of organizations and programs addressing economic stability and mobility, workforce development, health and social services, and disaster relief.

Economic Stability and Mobility

Advocating for and endowing programs which provide assistance with issues including hunger, homelessness, and poverty for the economic betterment of the communities in which we operate.

Workforce Development

Promoting programs which aid in workforce readiness, technical training, and literacy, including children’s literacy, to ensure the continuance of an educated society and a capable, innovative workforce.

Health and Social Services

Championing and prioritizing matters of health, including mental and behavioral health, access to basic needs such as medical and dental care for underprivileged communities, and providing funding for organizations focused on childhood development and children’s advocacy as well as care and support for victims of domestic violence.

Disaster Relief

Providing funding and visibility to organizations specializing in providing relief from natural disasters and state of emergency, including providing temporary shelter, food, water, and hygiene or sanitation products to those affected and aiding in cleanup efforts.

Application Requirements

We will consider three principal types of grants:

Project Support Grants support specific projects or programs aligned with our mission. These requests may include some funds earmarked for the overhead costs associated with running a project.

General Operating Support Grants provide limited general operating support for the core operations or organizations whose missions and activities are aligned with our mission. These grants will often help the grantee build organizational, programmatic, and fundraising capacity. Operating support is not intended to help organizations in fiscal crisis. Applicants must have a current strategic or business plan that clearly outlines the organization’s goals and presents a plan for achieving results. Operating support grants must not exceed 15% of an organization’s total agency budget.

Capital Support Grants provide limited support for capital campaigns to fund the acquisition and construction of facilities, existing property renovation, or the purchase of major equipment. The program has a comprehensive approach to funding capital initiatives, which also includes funding for increased program capacity. A feasibility study may be required for capital initiatives to be considered.

Our mission is to promote the mental health of all New Yorkers, with a particular focus on providing hope and recovery for adults with serious mental illness and children with serious emotional disturbances

Critical Time Transition Program for Children, Youth and Families

The Office of Mental Health announces funds for the development of up to four (4) Critical Time Transition Programs (CTTP). The Programs will be for Children, Youth, and Families, with one award for each of the following Economic Development Regions:

• Mohawk Valley
  • Counties: Fulton, Herkimer, Montgomery, Oneida, Otsego, Schoharie
• Western New York
  • Counties: Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, Niagara
• Long Island
  • Counties: Nassau, Suffolk
• New York City
  • Counties: Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, New York, Richmond

The Critical Time Transition Programs will include:

• A Critical Time Intervention (CTI) team
• A Transitional Residential Setting (TRS) with allowance for up to a 120 day stay

Both capital funding for the development of the TRS and operating funding for both the CTI Team and the TRS will be available to selected applicants.

The goal of CTTP is to help with what can be a difficult transition from a hospital setting back into the community.

Target Population

The CTTP for Children, Youth, and Family target population is as follows:

• Children/youth aged 11 – 17 years old; young people who turn 18 while in the program may continue to be served until age 19; and their families/caregivers;
• Youth with mental health conditions, including those with co-occurring substance use, medical conditions, or Intellectual or Developmental Disabilities (I/DD); and
• Youth who would benefit from an intervention during a critical transition in care, primarily focusing on:
  • Youth boarding in Emergency Department (ED)/ Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (CPEP) who are medically and psychiatrically cleared for discharge;
  • Youth boarding on a pediatric unit who are medically and psychiatrically cleared for discharge;
  • Youth boarding on an inpatient psychiatric unit who are medically and psychiatrically cleared for discharge.

The Lawrence Foundation is a private family foundation focused on making grants to support environmental, human services and other causes.

The Lawrence Foundation was established in mid-2000. We make both program and operating grants and do not have any geographical restrictions on our grants. Nonprofit organizations that qualify for public charity status under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code or other similar organizations are eligible for grants from The Lawrence Foundation.  

Grant Amount and Types

Grants typically range between $5,000 - $10,000. In some limited cases we may make larger grants, but that is typically after we have gotten to know your organization over a period of time. We also generally don’t make multi-year grants, although we may fund the same organization on a year by year basis over a period of years.

General operating or program/project grant requests within our areas of interests are accepted. In general, regardless of whether a grant request is for general operating or program/project expenses, all of our grants will be issued as unrestricted grants.

Max and Victoria Dreyfus Foundation Grant

The Foundation will consider requests to support museums, cultural and performing arts programs; schools and hospitals; educational, skills-training and other programs for youth, seniors, and persons with disabilities; environmental and wildlife protection activities; and other community-based organizations and programs.

Home Based Crisis Intervention (HBCI) Mental Health and Intellectual and/or Developmental Disabilities (MH/IDD) (NY)

Funds are available for the procurement of pilot Home Based Crisis Intervention (HBCI) teams. The teams will serve youth with co-occurring Intellectual Disabilities and/or Developmental Disorders throughout the State. Home Based Community Interventions support families in crisis. HBCI Teams foster well-being and stability for the child/youth. Services are offered in the home, school, or community. This opportunity is in partnership with the New York State Developmental Disabilities Planning Council (DDPC) and the Office of Persons with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD).

Funding

Available annual funding per team is as follows: 1 FTE Supervisor and 3 FTE Interventionists Team: $560,734

Community Partnership Award

The Mutual of America Foundation Community Partnership Award recognizes outstanding nonprofit organizations in the United States that have shown exemplary leadership by facilitating partnerships with public, private or social sector leaders who are working together as equal partners, not as donors and recipients, to build a cohesive community that serves as a model for collaborating with others for the greater good.

Each year, the Mutual of America Foundation sponsors a national competition in which hundreds of organizations demonstrate the value of their partnership to the communities they serve, their ability to be replicated by others and their capacity to stimulate new approaches to addressing significant social issues.

Six organizations are selected by an independent committee to receive the Community Partnership Award.

• The Thomas J. Moran Award is given to the national award-winning program and includes $100,000 and a documentary video about the program.
• The Frances R. Hesselbein Award is given to a partnership that is addressing social challenges in more than one community, or which demonstrates the potential to be replicated in other communities. This recipient receives $75,000.
• Four other organizations are named Honorable Mention recipients for their programs, and each receives $50,000.

Since its inception in 1996, the Community Partnership Award has recognized 262 partnerships from cities and towns across America. Like so many of our clients working in the nonprofit community, Mutual of America is dedicated to having a direct, positive impact on society.
