What We Do

• Provide annual cash awards, project based grants, special commissions and specific travel opportunities to visual and generative performing artists
• Provide free studios and performance and exhibition spaces to theater, dance, music, film/video and visual artists for the creation and presentation of new work
• Facilitate venues and opportunities for public exposure to these exhibitions and performances, and facilitate artistic collaboration and exchange
• Plan and collaborate on behalf of Kansas City artists and the arts community with philanthropic, business and civic leaders
• Engage national philanthropic and cultural leaders with Kansas City artists and the arts community

Creative Confluence Fund: Individual Artists

ArtsKC, Charlotte Street, and the Hall Family Foundation are requesting proposals for individual artist-led projects, serving key geographic areas that represent a broad swath of art forms and engaging with a particular civic issue in the neighborhood.

Selected artists must provide accessible programming for communities in the geographic areas of the Historic Northeast, Eastside Kansas City, and Northeast Wyandotte County.

• 10 artists will receive grants of $50,000 over a 2-year project period.

The artist application will have a two-step process. First, artists will send an LOI (Letter of Interest), which will be uploaded as a one-page letter and up to 5 digital images. Secondly, the finalist pool will be invited to submit a full application and invited for a brief in-person interview with the selection committee. Following the selection committee interviews, the 10 artists will be selected.

Cultural Producers Grants

The Cultural Producers Grants Program awards $50,000 in total funds for low-budget grassroots arts organizations and artist-run projects in Kansas City. Kansas City has long enjoyed a thriving and diverse ecology of small artist-run spaces, collectives, groups, and organizations, which have sometimes suffered from lack of support needed to establish sustainability. These new Cultural Producer Grants aim to both draw attention to these critical elements of our arts ecosystem as well as direct some much-needed support their way.

• $25,000 in total awards that is distributed in $5,000-$10,000 amounts
• Encourages a rich, flourishing, and diverse Ecosystem of Arts and Culture in Kansas City
• Contributes to the sustainability of low-budget artist-run organizations, collectives, groups, projects, and initiatives
• Provide support for building larger scale projects, despite smaller budgets and less access to capital

Evergy’s Hometown Grant Program 

Awarded annually, this grant program provides up to $10,000 for basic needs initiatives. 

Projects must be basic needs focused for food security, housing, hygiene and bill payments. Health focused projects are not eligible. Projects should be for expanding capacity or special projects that are outside of normal operations.

Variety KC Ten Parks Project

Variety KC is a children’s charity committed to helping kids of all abilities Be Active, Be Social, and Belong by providing adaptive equipment, therapies, and opportunities for activity and full inclusion.

Grant Focus

Variety KC is partnering with municipalities to develop large, destination-level inclusive playgrounds serving children and families of all abilities across Greater Kansas City. Through the Ten Parks Project, Variety KC, with anchor support from the Mallouk Family Foundation, aims to build the region’s first network of fully inclusive play spaces, shaped by Universal Design principles and informed by individuals with disabilities and their families.

American Association of University Women / Wagy Fund (AAUW)

The Kansas City, Missouri, Branch of the American Association of University Women promotes education and scholarships for women. The mission of the Wagy Fund is to further the mission of AAUW and to honor Irene Wagy.

Grant Focus: Organizations that promote societal change through programs benefiting women and girls in Kansas City, Missouri.

About Us

The Community Mental Health Fund makes grants to 501(c)(3) mental healthcare organizations. We are a public fund and services are audited. Care must meet standards set by the Board of Trustees and the State of Missouri. We also support multi-agency initiatives, including cultural competence and trauma-informed care. Services assist our community’s most vulnerable citizens. Abused children, battered women, and homeless families are among those we serve.

We’re committed to identifying and pursuing partnerships with local agencies that provide mental health service to underserved Jackson County residents. Our new Community Grants target agencies that exemplify innovation and a forward-thinking mindset in their delivery of whole-person mental wellness services in these social determinants of health focus areas:

• Family - from expecting parents to early family life
• Life - housing and communities offering safe, supportive family environments
• Work - fair, supportive, and inclusive employment
• Aging - support for older adults’ community connectedness and access to care

Grant Funding Programs

General funding information

The Community Mental Health Fund invests in mental health services through partnerships with non-profit agencies that provide quality mental health care for persons with mental health concerns.

Through these partnerships, we strive to ensure that mental health services are equitably accessible and responsive to the varied and unique needs of Jackson County residents. Every year our funding supports over 25,000 residents who are without insurance and are in need of mental health care.

Grant funding programs

The Board of Trustees has authority to contract with established tax-exempt 501(c)(3) charitable corporations to: operate, supplement, maintain or deliver purchased services within: community mental health centers, mental health clinics or comprehensive mental health service providers. Funding is contractual and performance-based. Billing and treatment records are audited.
