The 2026 Pet Lover's Spay and Neuter Grant Program aims to reduce pet overpopulation in California by providing financial assistance for spay/neuter services. Funded through the Pet Lover’s License Plate Program and the Prevention of Animal Homelessness and Cruelty Tax Fund, this initiative expects to distribute up to $500,000 in grants ranging from $25,000 to $50,000 to eligible municipalities and non-profits, facilitating a healthier pet population.

The Cecelia Springmeyer Memorial Scholarship, managed by the Decatur County Community Foundation, aims to support North and South Decatur students pursuing post-secondary education in law enforcement, criminal justice, animal husbandry, agronomy, or teaching. Applicants must reside within the Decatur County Community Schools district and may receive a minimum scholarship of $1000 to ease their educational costs. The Community Foundation of the Rappahannock River Region

The Community Foundation of the Rappahannock River Region works with individuals and families to create permanent gifts for our community. The Homeless Animals Support Network Fund

This fund, entrusted to the foundation in 2023, is the next step in the evolution of the Homeless Animals Support Network - HASN’s mission to meet the needs of homeless animals all over Virginia.

The work began in October of 2012 as a non-profit fundraising organization dedicated to saving lives and advocating for homeless animals in Prince William County. Realizing the need for assistance stretches across the state, HASN expanded to help other small animal rescue organizations throughout Virginia.

The purpose of the fund is to provide support on an as-needed basis for small rescues and shelters throughout the state of Virginia, to aid in the shared goal of a No-Kill VA. Realizing that not all rescues and communities have access to needed resources, the fund will bridge the gap by advocating for and providing grant assistance and resources to underserved and impoverished communities and homeless pets all across Virginia. Small shelters are defined as those with budgets of $300,000 or less.

Program examples include:

• Foster programs aimed at keeping pets out of animal shelters,
• Return to Home programs that assist owners through technology, microchipping, and other resources,
• Shelter Surrender Intervention aimed at assisting pet owners in need or crisis, to prevent them from surrendering their pets to the shelter,
• Foster programs for victims of domestic violence or those facing temporary traumatic instances,
• Assisting pets of the homeless and/or low-income pet owners with medical treatments as part of community outreach. For example, Spay/ Neuter programs, vaccines, behavioral assistance, food, and supplies, etc.,
• Spay/Neuter services,
• Something cool and unique that YOUR community needs! 

Nonprofit Animal Shelter Grants

Flexible funding for any nonprofit animal shelter serving Greater New Haven. 

The Community Foundation's animal shelter grants are made possible by The Lillian and Henry A. Konopacke Fund. The fund was created in 2013 by the bequest of New Haven native and North Haven resident Henry Konopacke, who worked as a machinist at the Winchester Repeating Arms Factory. Other funds contributing to Animal Shelter grants include the Baxter Fund, Judith Corchard Fund and Diva Fund. 

Purpose

The Fund’s intent is to assist nonprofit animal shelters in the Greater New Haven area in performing the services for which they have been established. 

Available Grant types

• New or existing projects
• Capacity building assistance to strengthen the infrastructure of an organization for long term success. Examples include board development, strategic planning, evaluation and capital expenditures in equipment, technology, building renovations or relocation.

Funding 

Grants are available in amounts up to $10,000. 

The St. Croix Valley Foundation serves six counties bordering the St. Croix River through local partnerships and place-based philanthropy. We serve:

Humane Organization Grant Program 

Mission

To enhance the quality of life of shelter/ rescue animals and to increase their chances for adoption. 

The St. Croix Valley Foundation (SCVF) Humane Organization grant program funded by the Compassionate Animal Fund, is accepting applications (invitation only) from Managed Open Admission humane organizations located in the upper Midwest. The grants, ranging up to $3,000, can cover items on your “wish list” including food, supplies, infrastructure needs, and veterinary cost. 

Funding Criteria

Grants are intended to provide funds for items such as food, supplies, medicine, spay/neuter programs (for in-house animals to aid in adoption) newsletters, or other needs and/or programs that most benefit the humane organization.

​We understand that shelters may differ in the services or alternatives they offer during the waiting period prior to intake. If your facility is at capacity, you must provide a clear statement outlining how emergency surrenders and stray animals are handled, including the procedures your organization follows to operate as an Open Admission shelter.  

Bailey and Friends Grant

Financial support from Bailey and Friends focuses on several categories including: spay/neuter, quality shelter care, adoptions and foster care, emergency relief, therapy/companion training, community education on responsible pet ownership and other programs to ensure that dogs and cats have the chance to live healthy, happy lives in stable environments.

Bailey and Friends strives to improve the lives of dogs and cats primarily in underserved communities and rural areas where services are limited. Small ‘mom & pop’ operations with limited capacity to provide needed services are encouraged to apply.

As a new extension of the Golisano Foundation, financial resources for grants are limited. Our average award is in the $5,000 – $10,000 range, however, smaller and larger grants will be considered. Please call the office for further discussion before starting the online application.

Applications for programs, capital projects or community planning initiatives related to the field of animal welfare will be given consideration.

Community-wide strategies involving alliances/coalitions/collaborations that bring together the expertise and perspectives of various stakeholders; that can identify and grow best practices and effective programs; that are easy to replicate and share broadly with other communities will be given consideration.

Allegan County Community Foundation: Community Grant

All requests (excluding food-related, youth related, and event sponsorships) should be addressed through the Community Grant application. You may only receive a TAG Youth or Community award during the same grant year. Community Grants support programs that improve quality of life in Allegan County through investments in basic needs, arts, environment, economic development, animal welfare, and nonprofit capacity. Funding prioritizes impactful, sustainable solutions that strengthen communities and enhance well-being.

Please note that requests for event funding must be submitted through the Community Event Support/Sponsorship Request. Event-related funding will no longer be considered through the Community Grant process. 

Basic Needs and Rights – We strive to ensure that the county’s residents have access to social and health services, stable housing, job training and education. Priority is given to programs that: 

• Promote individual and family economic security 
• Increase housing stock 
• Decrease homelessness through programs that promote diversion and intervention 
• Improve access to healthcare and human services 
• Promote healthy relationships and address domestic violence 
• Support education with access to training, employability skills, and self-care. 

Arts and Culture (performing art, historical organizations, etc.) – We strive to ensure that the county’s residents can access arts and culture experiences to educate and improve overall quality of life. Priority is given to programs that: 

• support and encourage the community to take advantage of the vast variety of arts and cultural programming  
• public art projects, performing arts, visual arts, and dance 

Environment and Conservation (outdoors/nature) – We strive to foster understanding of and promote action on the relationship between the health of the natural world and the health and well-being of our residents. Priority is given to programs that: 

• Preserve and protect environmentally significant lands, waterways, and wildlife habitats – for the benefit not only of the ecosystem, but for the health, livelihood, and enjoyment of residents; 

Economic Development and Placemaking (community enhancements) – We strive to ensure that Allegan County is a place that people want to live, that families can thrive, and that grown children want to return to raise their families. Priority is given to programs that: 

• Create new, outdoor public spaces and destinations in a community on unused or underused sites.  
• Support economic development. 

Animal Welfare (care and protection) – We strive to ensure adequate protection, care and humane treatment of animals and wildlife. Priority is given to programs that: 

• Provide support of veterinary care for domestic animals, including spay and neuter services, for low-income families and abandoned pets 
• Encourage responsible pet ownership and the adoption of abandoned animals 
• Support of healthy wildlife as well as their natural habitats 
• Make positive, therapeutic connections between people and animals 

Capacity and Sustainability (developing and strengthening skills for growth and adaptability) – We strive to support local nonprofits to reach their goals and maintain long-term sustainability. Priority is given to programs that:  

• Improve efficiency through the implementation of technology (hardware, software, cloud-based and implementation costs) 
• Enhance staff development 

The Petco Foundation offers grants aimed at animal welfare organizations, focusing on enhancing adoption and medical care initiatives. With a commitment to lifesaving programs, they invest in organizations that demonstrate accountability and significant impact in their communities. Eligible applicants include non-profit organizations, municipal agencies, and SPCA/humane societies that provide sheltering services. The grant cycle allows for one proposal submission per year, ensuring support for those dedicated to improving the welfare of companion animals.

The Petco Love Foundation, previously known as the Petco Foundation, has been dedicated to animal welfare since 1999. With a mission to enhance the lives of pets and their families, they provide significant funding to nonprofit organizations for lifesaving initiatives. The 'Access to Care' program supports spay/neuter clinics and low-cost veterinary services, ensuring that more pets receive essential care. Petco Love remains committed to fostering healthier communities and improving the well-being of pets across the nation.

The Petfinder Foundation's Disaster Response and Recovery Grants provide crucial support to Petfinder members affected by natural disasters. These grants assist organizations in recovering from events like hurricanes, tornadoes, and floods, ensuring that adoptable pets receive necessary care. Eligible applicants must be active Petfinder members and demonstrate a need due to disasters occurring within the past 60 days. The initiative aims to enhance the resilience of shelters and rescue groups in challenging times.

The KONG Toy Grant, offered by the Petfinder Foundation in collaboration with KONG, aims to enhance the adoptability of shelter pets by providing enriching toys. This initiative supports animal shelters and adopters throughout North America, helping to keep pets mentally stimulated and happy. By focusing on pet enrichment, the grant seeks to increase the chances of successful adoptions, thereby reducing the euthanasia of adoptable animals. The Petfinder Emergency Medical Grant assists Petfinder members in providing urgent medical care for pets in need. Grants range from $100 to $1,000 and are awarded monthly until funds are depleted. Eligible expenses cover various emergency treatments, with a focus on saving one pet's life or improving its quality of life. Applicants must be active Petfinder members and agree to share their stories on social media, promoting both the grant and the pets they help.

The Community Foundation of the Lake - Karen Jean Rudek Fund Grant supports horse and dog shelters, sanctuaries, and rescue facilities, especially in the Lake of the Ozarks area. Governed by a knowledgeable Board of Directors, this fund was established by Karen Jean Rudek to ensure her legacy of animal care continues. Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) organizations, with funding available up to $10,000, but not for salaries or utilities.

The CFMC Small Grants program, offered by the Community Foundation for Monterey County, supports emerging projects and small organizations focused on specific populations or areas. Applications are reviewed in three cycles each year: February, June, and October. This streamlined program aims to address critical community needs while fostering healthy, safe, and vibrant communities across Monterey County.

The Scaife Family Foundation Grant has been supporting vulnerable community members for nearly 40 years, providing over $180 million in donations to non-profits. The Foundation aims to match organizations with aligned goals, focusing on women and children, addiction prevention, and animal welfare. It offers grants for general operating and program support, prioritizing impactful programs that address societal issues. Notably, the Foundation considers proposals that foster healthy relationships and promote treatment for addiction, enhancing the welfare of both humans and animals.

The Cleopatra Fund provides grants to support animal welfare organizations in the Greater Hudson Valley. With a funding range of $500 to $2,000 and a maximum award of $3,000, the fund prioritizes programs benefiting cats, dogs, retired circus animals, and retired farm animals. Eligible applicants include tax-exempt organizations within the Hudson Valley region, which encompasses nine counties. This initiative aims to enhance the quality of life for animals and the community.

The Lupa Animal Wellness Fund, managed by the Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation, offers grants to support programs for dogs and cats, focusing on issues like cruelty, emergency care, and pet overpopulation. Grants are available to 501(c)(3) organizations, schools, and government entities providing services within the Boreal Waters Community Foundation area. Priority is given to organizations demonstrating financial need, contributing to animal welfare and care initiatives.

The Jason Debus Heigl Foundation Grant supports nonprofit organizations dedicated to animal welfare in the U.S. It aims to maximize the benefit to animals through education, spay and neuter initiatives, and positive advocacy. The foundation focuses on impactful programs, encouraging grants that align with their mission to end animal overpopulation and cruelty. Eligible applicants must be registered 501(c)(3) nonprofits, while individuals and political lobbying efforts are excluded from funding.

The Aaron & Rachel Meyer Memorial Foundation, established in 1964, aims to enhance the quality of life for people and animals in New Jersey and New York through charitable support. Focused on healthcare, education, research, and animal welfare, the foundation has funded diverse projects, from medical equipment to community services. By fostering relationships with local organizations, they address the pressing challenges faced by nonprofits in the tri-state area, ensuring a significant impact on the community.

The Maryland Horse Board Grants Program aims to enhance the state's horse industry through funding for projects that increase awareness, education, and participation in equestrian activities. Grants, typically around $1,000, support diverse initiatives, particularly those aligning with the Maryland Horse Forum Report. Eligible applicants include non-profits, government programs, and educational institutions in Maryland. Funding requests should not exceed $3,000, fostering sustainable growth and inclusivity within the horse community.

The MD Spay and Neuter Grant Program, initiated by the Maryland Department of Agriculture, aims to decrease the number of pets surrendered and euthanized in shelters. By providing grants to local governments and non-profits, the program facilitates free spay and neuter services for low-income families, unowned community cats, and supports capital projects for clinics. This initiative is vital for improving animal welfare and reducing shelter populations across Maryland.

BISSELL Pet Foundation's Partners for Pets program supports over 6,025 animal welfare organizations across the U.S. by providing resources aimed at reducing homeless animals through adoption, spay/neuter initiatives, and emergency support. Eligible organizations must be 501(C)(3) nonprofits or local government entities engaged in animal welfare, fostering community connections and financial assistance during crises. This initiative not only benefits shelters but also enhances partnerships among various animal welfare groups, promoting a united effort to improve animal lives.

PetSmart Charities offers Natural Disaster Response Grants to support organizations addressing the urgent needs of pets affected by major disasters. Grant funds can be utilized for shelter supplies, veterinary care, structural repairs, and supplemental staff expenses within 30 to 45 days post-disaster. In special cases, funding may extend up to 60 days. Eligible applicants include authorized disaster responders and nonprofit organizations directly impacted by the disaster, ensuring timely assistance to affected animals and their caretakers.

PetSmart Charities' Adoption Partnerships and Event Grants support organizations in finding loving homes for pets. With over 10 million pets placed, the program offers resources like cash rewards for adoptions and grants for event support. Eligible partners include registered charities and educational institutions. The maximum grant available is $5,000, aimed at maximizing the impact of adoption events.
