The College of EHHD Scholarship at Montana State University supports students pursuing degrees in Education, Health, and Human Development. Established in 1893, MSU is committed to providing transformative educational opportunities. The Perkins Leadership Grant, funded by the Illinois Community College Board, aims to enhance Career and Technical Education (CTE) programming across Illinois community colleges. With approximately $1 million in federal funds, the grant focuses on three key objectives: aligning College and Career Pathway Endorsements with Postsecondary Programs, enhancing student-centered support services for CTE students, and expanding innovative delivery models. This initiative seeks to improve educational outcomes and accessibility for over 500,000 residents annually.

Beckley Area Foundation

Beckley Area Foundation was established in January 1985 by ten community-minded citizens. It began with a gift of $1.1 million from the Dr. Thomas Walker Memorial Health Foundation as “seed” money for this Raleigh County project. BAF assets have grown to over $70 million with over 500 different funds managed by our three trustee banks. Today, Beckley Area Foundation is one of West Virginia’s largest community foundations.

Since its inception, BAF has distributed over $23 million to charities and other worthy projects in the fields of education, public recreation, health & human services, the arts, animal services and beautification.

Scholarships

The Beckley Area Foundation proudly manages scholarship funds established by individuals, businesses, and organizations dedicated to helping students pursue higher education. Many of these scholarships are tailored for specific schools, fields of study, or graduates from local high schools, while others offer broader opportunities. No matter the path, our scholarships aim to support students from our region as they work toward achieving their educational goals.

Most of these scholarships must be awarded to students from our geographic area or at least preference given to such students. While the majority of scholarships benefit Raleigh County applicants there are others designated for Fayette, Summers, Webster, and Wyoming students. 

Mark Weston Smith Scholarship

For Raleigh County high school graduate; college-qualified and based on financial need.

This scholarship is renewable.

The Taking Back the Trades! Trades School Grant Program, funded by the Illinois Community College Board, aims to enhance career pathways in the trades for underserved youth in Illinois. With $5 million allocated, this initiative addresses high youth unemployment and low graduation rates by providing access to essential vocational training. This program not only strengthens the workforce but also revitalizes the state's trades, ensuring a robust infrastructure for the future.

The Homer Foundation provides emergency loans to nonprofits impacted by natural disasters or unforeseen circumstances. Their mission is to enhance the quality of life in the greater Homer area through philanthropic efforts. This program offers short-term, no-interest loans to support organizations facing closure, ensuring they can continue their vital services during challenging times. Nonprofits in the area are encouraged to apply for this assistance.

The Link Foundation Graduate Fellowship Program offers 12-week fellowships for graduate students to conduct marine science research at the Smithsonian Marine Station in Fort Pierce, Florida. Since 1998, the program has provided opportunities for students to engage in independent research alongside Smithsonian staff. With a total stipend of $9,000, applicants must be current graduate students who have completed at least one semester and possess strong English communication skills. This fellowship aims to support significant marine research initiatives.

The Educators Professional Development Scholarship, established by the Homer Foundation, supports local public school educators seeking to enhance their skills and obtain continuing education credits. Eligible educators can use funds for class tuition, professional development supplies, transportation, and guest speakers. This initiative aims to empower educators within the community, ensuring they have access to essential resources for their professional growth.

The P.U.L.S.E. of Noble County Grants aim to support nonprofit organizations in enhancing educational and service-related programs for the youth of Noble County. Grants up to $1,000 are available for projects that align with the mission of fostering lifelong service and education. Applicants must submit a detailed proposal, budget, and IRS Tax Determination Letter. Successful recipients will need to fulfill reporting requirements to maintain eligibility for future grants.

The YAC Grants, offered by the Fremont Area Community Foundation, support initiatives that enhance the quality of life for youth in Newaygo County. Grants, up to $12,500, prioritize programs addressing challenges such as substance abuse, teen pregnancy, and social opportunities. Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) nonprofits, government units, and educational institutions that serve the youth of this area. This funding aims to empower young individuals through education and recreational activities.

The Isabel Foundation Grant supports nonprofit organizations that promote the Christian Science faith. Founded by Isabel and C.S. Harding Mott, the foundation primarily funds initiatives such as camps, churches, and nursing facilities that align with these values. Eligible applicants must be U.S.-based 501(c)(3) organizations. Although the foundation appreciates the work of branch churches, they are currently unable to fund their projects. This grant represents a commitment to nurturing the Christian Science community.

The Texas Hydrogen Infrastructure, Vehicle, and Equipment Grant Program (THIVE) promotes the adoption of hydrogen technology by providing funding for projects aimed at reducing nitrogen oxide emissions in nonattainment areas. Eligible projects include the development of hydrogen infrastructure and the purchase or conversion of vehicles and equipment to hydrogen power. This initiative supports a cleaner environment and advances the use of hydrogen as a sustainable energy source in Texas.

The Georgia Promise Scholarship, established by the Georgia Student Finance Commission in 2024, empowers families to choose nonpublic education options, including private schools and home study programs. This initiative allows eligible families to utilize funds for tuition, textbooks, tutoring, and other educational expenses. To qualify, students must have been enrolled in a Georgia public school or be rising kindergartners, while income level considerations apply for Spring Semester enrollment. This scholarship aims to enhance educational opportunities for Georgia’s students.

The Dana Jo and Byron J. Bennett Scholarship at Montana State University supports full-time students pursuing a degree in the Norm Asbjornson College of Engineering. Eligible applicants must be seniors who have completed five semesters by December 31 of the academic year the award is granted. This scholarship aims to provide financial assistance to deserving students, fostering educational opportunities that can transform lives and communities.

The Dana M. Woolston Memorial Scholarship, offered by Montana State University, supports students pursuing degrees in Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering. Established as part of MSU's commitment to transformative education, this scholarship aims to provide essential financial assistance to incoming students. The Short-Term Fellowship Program at the Smithsonian Marine Station in Fort Pierce, FL, offers graduate students and postdoctoral researchers opportunities to conduct marine science research year-round. With stipends of $3,000 per month for terms ranging from one to six months, fellows gain access to essential research space and equipment. Applicants should collaborate with their advisors before arrival to ensure resources are available, making this fellowship a valuable resource for advancing marine science research.

The Daniel G. Hertz Accounting Student Scholarship at Montana State University is aimed at students pursuing a degree from the Jake Jabs College of Business and Entrepreneurship with an Accounting Option or a Master of Professional Accountancy degree. This fund provides two (2) scholarship awards each year to support an incoming Freshman or incoming/rising Sophomore who is enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student at either Johnson College, Lackawanna College, Keystone College, or Penn State Scranton Campus.

In even-numbered years, one (1) scholarship will be awarded to a student at Keystone College, and one (1) scholarship will be awarded to a student at Johnson College. The spendable balance will be split evenly between each recipient.

In odd-numbered years, one (1) scholarship will be awarded to a student at Penn State Scranton, and one (1) scholarship will be awarded to a student at Lackawanna College. The spendable balance will be split evenly between each recipient.

The Daniel H. Werner Memorial Scholarship at Montana State University supports students pursuing their degrees while demonstrating financial need. As one of the original land-grant colleges, MSU is committed to transforming lives and communities through education. This scholarship is available to Montana high school graduates, providing essential financial assistance to incoming students and fostering academic success in a supportive environment.

The Darleen A. Ellingson Scholarship at Montana State University supports students pursuing degrees in Agricultural Education or Agricultural Business. Eligible organizations must be tax-exempt, operational for at least three years, and prioritize services for the elderly. This funding aims to strengthen nonprofits' capacity to serve older adults effectively.

Early Childhood Education and Care Department is seeking applications from eligible providers to renew, expand, or create new PreK slots and classrooms statewide, especially in areas of the state where there is a lack of high-quality PreK for children and families.

The College of Agriculture Student Assistance Scholarship at Montana State University supports incoming undergraduate students pursuing a degree in agriculture.
