The Crime Victim Services Commission (CVSC) Compensation Program may help crime victims and their families with the financial costs of crime. We may cover costs including medical and dental treatment, non-medical remedial treatment, counseling, funeral expenses, crime scene cleanup, grief counseling, residential security, relocation expenses, transportation, loss of earnings or support, and other necessary services not paid by other sources. The program is administered by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. 

The Dave Buschena Memorial Scholarship at Montana State University supports students pursuing a degree in Agricultural Economics. The Peoples Security Bank and Trust Company Scholarship Award consists of ten $1,000 scholarships awarded annually to graduating high school seniors who are customers of Peoples Security Bank and Trust Company, or who have a parent or guardian who is a customer, and who plan to pursue postsecondary education.

Pay-It-Forward Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a sophomore, junior, or senior attending Penn State University as a full-time student who is a permanent resident of Lackawanna county, who is employed full-time at Penn State through work-study or an outside employer and continues working as a full time student, and who has maintained a GPA of 2.5 or higher. When the recipient is in a position to do so in the future, he or she must commit to offering a similar scholarship opportunity to others.

The Dave Duensing Memorial Scholarship at Montana State University supports Helena high school graduates pursuing degrees in various fields including engineering, nursing, and sciences. This scholarship is aimed at undergraduate students who maintain full-time status. It reflects MSU's commitment to providing transformative educational opportunities to local students, fostering academic growth and community engagement in Montana.

NEPA Invitational Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to assist with educational expenses for graduating seniors from Northeastern Pennsylvania who play golf and intend to pursue a post-secondary education. This is a manual application, available in the Spring.

Neal J. Fasula Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to individuals who are employed by, or who are the dependent child or stepchild of someone employed by, Gerrity’s Supermarket and/or Gerrity’s ACE Hardware Stores, and who plans to attend post-secondary education at an accredited university.

The ALSCW Dissertation Fellowship supports scholars whose doctoral dissertations focus on literary history and aesthetics. It offers a three-week residency in a fully equipped cabin in West Virginia, providing an ideal environment for writing and research. The fellowship encourages applicants to submit their cover letters, CVs, dissertation chapters, and letters of recommendation. Preference is given to candidates with advanced-stage dissertations, fostering a community that values diverse literary perspectives.

Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership Program

The Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership (ORLP) is a nationally competitive grant program that provides funding to enhance recreation opportunities in rural and urban communities. ORLP’s funding helps communities to create new outdoor recreation spaces, reinvigorate existing parks, and form connections between people and the outdoors.

Recreation is core to the American experience. ORLP is making recreation attainable for more Americans funding an array of projects from sports fields and playgrounds to walking trails, and community gardens. Land acquisition, site development, or renovation of existing facilities are all possible ORLP projects. Projects are locally led and designed to meet pressing community needs.

The Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership Program (ORLP) provides 50/50 matching grants for park projects in urban areas with a population of 25,000 or more, with a preference for projects in low-income communities. You can us​e this map to determine if your park is in an eligible location. The minimum grant amount is $300,000 ($600,000 project) and the maximum grant amount is $15,000,000 ($30,000,000 project​​). 

Community Parks and Playgrounds Program

Maryland's Community Parks and Playgrounds Program invests in the future of established communities by developing and revitalizing parks and playgrounds statewide. With the support of the Governor and the Maryland General Assembly, a total of $102.4 million has been approved so far for 934 parks and playground projects for our communities across Maryland.

The Governor's Fiscal Year 2027​ budget includes $5 million to fund 26​ ​new parks and playgrounds projects. The projects will be presented to the Board of Public Works for final approval.​

New Parks & New Life for Old Parks!​

The Community Parks and Playground Program provides funding to allow the State to focus on restoring existing and creating new park and green space systems in Maryland's cities and towns. The Community Parks and Playgrounds Program will provide flexible grants to local governments to respond to the unmet need for assistance to rehabilitate, expand or improve existing parks, create new parks, develop environmentally oriented parks and recreation projects, or purchase and install playground equipment in older neighborhoods and intensely developed areas throughout the state.

Melvin-Deininger Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a graduate of a Lackawanna county high school who maintains a B average or higher and who plans to attend a college, university, or technical school located in Pennsylvania.

The CfA Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory offers a three-year program for emerging astrophysics researchers, with a potential fourth-year renewal. The fellowship provides a stipend of $81,500, an annual research budget of $18,000, and comprehensive health benefits. Eligible candidates should have less than two years of post-PhD research experience, with an emphasis on outstanding research skills in various astrophysical fields. This opportunity is open to English-speaking applicants from all nations.

Martin and Anna Orlando Kopa Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior from a high school in Lackawanna county who is matriculating to either Penn State University or Johnson College in Scranton, PA.

The Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory Predoctoral Fellowship Program offers an enriching opportunity for graduate students in astronomy-related fields. Established in 1985, it enables students to conduct research under the guidance of experienced SAO scientists. The fellowship lasts six months or longer, with compensation starting at $42,588 annually, increasing to $49,000 from July 2024. Applicants must be enrolled in a full-time Ph.D. program and ready for dissertation research, ensuring a robust academic experience.

Margaret Briggs/Lackawanna College Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to two individuals selected by Lackawanna College who are a graduate of a Lackawanna County High School and demonstrates financial need and past academic performance.

West Virginia Community Advancement and Development

West Virginia Community Advancement and Development works to encourage strong civic engagement through INFRASTRUCTURE, SUSTAINABILITY, COMPLIANCE, and RESILIENCY. WV CAD administers state and federal programs designed to improve the quality of life in West Virginia.

Weatherization Assistance Program

What is Weatherization?

The West Virginia Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) is a federally funded program that helps to increase the energy efficiency of dwellings owned or occupied by low-income persons or to provide such persons renewable energy systems or technologies, reduce their total residential expenditures, and improve their health and safety, especially low-income persons who are particularly vulnerable such as the elderly, persons with disabilities, families with children, high residential energy users, and households with high energy burden. The full scope of the WV Weatherization Assistance Program can be read in the current State Plan. 

The State of West Virginia does not provide direct assistance to households. The State awards program funds to local non-profit Community Action Agencies that provide Weatherization services in all 55 counties of West Virginia. The Dave Kelsey Agricultural Education Scholarship, offered by Montana State University, supports students pursuing degrees in Agricultural Education. Established to honor the legacy of agricultural education, this scholarship aims to promote the growth of future educators in the field. With a commitment to transforming lives and communities, MSU provides access to essential resources for students dedicated to agricultural studies. This scholarship reflects the university's mission of education and outreach, fostering a new generation of leaders in agricultural education.

The NewSchools: Innovative Schools Grant supports education leaders aiming to create new public and charter schools that address the unique needs of today's students. With funding ranging from $150,000 to $250,000, the grant emphasizes equity and innovative educational models. Applications are encouraged before the December 10, 2024 priority deadline, with the final deadline on January 8, 2025. This initiative seeks to empower diverse communities through transformative educational solutions.

The Ohio Geology Student Research Grant Program, administered by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, offers a $2,500 grant for the 2025–2026 academic year. This grant supports geology departments at Ohio colleges and universities, facilitating research in areas of geological interest across the state. Eligible candidates include both graduate and undergraduate students enrolled full-time. This program aims to enhance the understanding and management of Ohio's rich geological resources.

The National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) provides a structured archery curriculum for students in Ohio, fostering skills in archery while promoting self-esteem and discipline. The program, backed by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, offers grants up to $2,500 to certified schools, ensuring access to necessary training and equipment. With a strong emphasis on inclusivity, NASP engages students across various backgrounds, enhancing their physical education experience and encouraging lifelong participation in archery.

The Visual Arts Alliance Endowment Fund, managed by the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation, supports the visual arts in Cattaraugus County. This fund promotes various initiatives such as annual art shows, open studios, and educational programs in schools. As a trusted nonprofit established in 1994, the foundation has distributed over $5.6 million in grants and scholarships, fostering community development and cultural enrichment through the arts.

The Seize the Moment Fund-Cloud County, managed by the Greater Salina Community Foundation, aims to enhance community quality of life through small grants ranging from $250 to $500. It supports charitable, educational, and scientific endeavors, focusing on projects that meet community needs or advance the foundation’s mission. Eligible entities include 501(c)(3) nonprofits, educational institutions, and governmental organizations, promoting sustainability through permanent endowments and capacity building.

Generally the Community Foundation's scholarships are awarded to applicants who have high financial need. Applicants with household income exceeding $100,000 are less likely to be awarded, but applying will allow you to be considered for targeted scholarships.

Reach for Your Goal Scholarship

Open to students who are Kent County residents attending college in the state of Michigan and with a minimum 3.0 GPA.

In recognition of the fact that free professional public library service for all Floridians is an important part of the state’s educational infrastructure and greatly enhances and enriches the quality of life in the state, the over-arching goal of the State Aid to Libraries Program is to assist local governments in maintaining and developing such vital services, specifically providing equal access to free public library service to all residents of the service areas of participating governments, coordinating library service throughout the service area and providing consistent plans, programs, policies and procedures in the operation, maintenance and development of library service throughout the service area. 

The Creative Economy Fund offers vital support to digital creators and entertainment professionals affected by the LA Wildfires. Catering to individuals in film, music, and performing arts, this fund provides assistance for those who have experienced home loss or damage. Eligible applicants include direct creators, employees of talent agencies, and other creative professionals, ensuring a broad reach within the entertainment community. With a focus on personalized resources and guidance, the fund aims to foster resilience in a challenging industry.
