Junior Achievement - Sherry Hill Scholarship Fund

Sherry Hill spent 5 years with Operation G.R.A.D. where she served as Program Director for Junior Achievement, but her involvement with the students was much greater than her role with Junior Achievement. Sherry became a voice for many of the students and a sounding board for those students who needed a listening ear and a shoulder to lean on. This scholarship was established to honor her memory and her contributions to the Battle Creek Community on behalf of young people.

David M. McDill Scholarship Fund

The David M. McDill Scholarship Fund was established for the purpose of providing scholarships to graduating seniors from Harper Creek Community Schools pursuing post-secondary educational opportunities.

Dave McDill was the first Harper Creek Men's and Women's swimming and diving coach, serving from 1977-1995. In 1964, he started his teaching career at Harper Creek and then in 1976, he started a youth swim program for children in 4th grade and higher. This led to him starting the swim program at Harper Creek High School in 1977. His men's teams won League Championships in 1980, 1985, 1987, and 1989. His women's teams won League Championships in 1979, 1981, and 1983. Coach McDill had 3 swimmers win State titles and 16 teams placed in the top 10 at State meets. In his 31 years of service at Harper Creek Community Schools, he was a teacher, coach, community school director, pool director, and athletic director. More importantly, he served the community as a mentor and father figure who guided youth in a steady, supportive, and encouring manner.

The Dr. Mathikere and Lily Rajachar Memorial Scholarship Fund, established in 1998, supports Battle Creek area residents pursuing education and training. Founded by Lily Rajachar in memory of her husband, Dr. Mathikere Rajachar, this fund emphasizes leadership, ambition, and a commitment to education. It particularly encourages women interested in S.T.E.M. careers, ensuring they receive the necessary support to succeed. The Battle Creek Community Foundation manages this scholarship to create lasting community benefits.

Gerald D. Barnes Family Scholarship Fund

Gerald D. Barnes, a 1942 Colon High School graduate, was a standout four-year varsity first baseman. Following high school, he attended Argubright Business College for one year. He married Vera H. Kellogg in 1944, a 1942 graduate of Battle Creek Central - one of only two of 13 siblings to graduate high school. Vera played baseball during the time men where off at war and Gerald often kept score for her team. Their honeymoon was spent at a Detroit Tigers game and their love of baseball continued their entire lives. In 1945, Gerald was drafted into the U.S. Army and they put his business education to good use processing soldiers coming home from WWII. As a veteran he had been called a hero, but disagreed stating, "Those who fought overseas were the true heroes." Once discharged in 1946, he wore a flag pin every day, proudly displaying his love of Country and rests forever with his pin over his heart.

Following his service, Gerald worked at Post Cereals Carton and Container Division in Battle Creek for 40 years. Higher education was not common amongst Gerald's generation, but he and Vera understood their children and grandchild would need it to succeed and to this end, supported their education in every way they could. Their daughter received a certificate from Kellogg Community College and retired from Battle Creek Public Schools after 44 years. Their son earned a Bachelor's degree from Western Michigan University, and after serving our Country during the Vietnam conflict, earned his Master's from Utah State University. Their grand-daughter graduated from BCCHS 50 years to the day after Vera, and received her Bachelor's degree from Drury University. Through this scholarship, the Barnes family leaves a legacy that will support Battle Creek Public Schools graduates in obtaining higher education in a skilled trade field.

Ty Larson Fuller Scholarship Fund

The Ty Larson Fuller Scholarship Fund was established by the Fuller family and the Family Enrichment Center to honor the life of Ty Larson Fuller. Ty, was a young man with a determined spirit, who despite many challenges in his life, fought the odds to reach his goals. He also valued being a team player, building skills, and spending time with his family. This scholarship supports foster, adoptive, and kinship students under the age of 26 as they pursue higher education in the skilled trades.

Teresa Sue Davis Memorial Scholarship Fund

Teresa Sue Davis was born and raised in Battle Creek. Her name is not well-known, nor is she lauded for large philanthropic donations to the community. But like so many other city residents, she left an unforgettable mark on her family and the lives of others. Some may consider her contributions small. To those she touched, they were immeasurable. She was a 1984 graduate of Battle Creek Central High School and held many jobs in the community. No job was perhaps more important than as a mother, where she often selflessly pushed her children to achieve their life goals. This scholarship was established as a helping hand to graduates of Battle Creek Public Schools so that they may pursue their dreams of higher education.

The Stetler – Piper Family Scholarship Fund was established for the purpose of providing scholarships to graduates of Calhoun County High Schools or adult residents of Calhoun County pursuing post-secondary educational opportunities.

Richard R. Montgomery Scholarship Fund

The Richard R. Montgomery Memorial Scholarship Fund was established by his family and friends to honor him after he passed away on June 22, 2004. Dick came to Battle Creek to work at the Enquirer and News after graduating in Journalism from Michigan State University. He later worked at Clark Equipment as the national sales promotion manager. Dick was a talented, enthusiastic person whose positive attitude enriched all who had the good fortune of knowing him. He worked to enhance the quality of life in the Battle Creek community through his many years of community involvement. He focused on problems that required action. He applied his positive spirit and his eloquent voice to many issues. Dick felt that he could make a difference in the lives of young people by his personal involvement on the General Scholarship Committee of the Battle Creek Community Foundation Scholarship Program. This scholarship has been established to help individuals who are starting out on their educational journey following high school graduation. It is our hope that recipients of this scholarship will display the same character and compassion to better their community as Dick Montgomery did.

U.S. Writers Aid Initiative

PEN America is an organization of writers and their allies, and that solidarity is never more important than when members of our literary community face crises. PEN America’s U.S. Writers Aid Initiative, part of the PEN America Writers Emergency Fund, offers grants for writers in the United States facing acute financial need following an emergency situation.

The U.S. Writers Aid Initiative is intended to assist fiction and nonfiction authors, poets, playwrights, translators, and journalists in addressing short-term financial emergencies. To be eligible, applicants must be professional writers based in the United States, and be able to demonstrate that this one-time grant will be meaningful in helping address a short-term emergency situation. The fund is limited, and not every application can be supported.

Grant decisions are made on a quarterly basis by a volunteer committee of literary peers in consultation with PEN America staff, using the following guidelines to evaluate professional credentials:

• Publication of one or more books. (Writers who are only self-published or published by a press that charges for publication are not eligible.)
• Multiple essays, short stories, or poems appearing in literary anthologies or literary journals (either online or in print) in the last two years.
• A full-length play, performed in a theater by a professional theater company. Productions in academic settings qualify if the author is not a student at the time of the production.
• Employment as a full-time professional journalist, columnist, or critic, or a record of consistent publication on a freelance basis in a range of outlets during the last two years.
• Contracted forthcoming books, essays, short stories, poems, or articles for which the name of the publisher can be provided.
• Other qualifications that support the applicant’s professional identity as a writer.

The purpose of this scholarship is to honor the life of DANIELLE K. KNELL by providing scholarship(s) for college bound students in Carroll County, Maryland who have shown academic achievement and participated in the Carroll County 4-H Horsemanship Programs and who have been accepted at an accredited College, University or Technical School. Applications will also be accepted from continuing students i.e. those already in college from the Carroll County 4-H Horsemanship Programs who meet the criteria established for this scholarship.

The purpose of the HTI CONTRACTORS 4-H SCHOLARSHIP is to provide scholarships to graduating seniors or students already in college from any Carroll County Public high school accepted or already enrolled at an accredited college or technical school who has participated in the Carroll County 4-H Program for at least three years and has exhibited livestock during that time. The scholarship will be awarded to one male and one female who meet the criteria established for the fund.

4-H John J. Mazur, Jr. Memorial 4-H Scholarship

The purpose of John J. Mazur, Jr. Memorial 4-H Scholarship is to provide scholarships for high-school graduates who have participated in Carroll County 4-H programs in livestock and photography.

The CAA Professional Development Fellowship in Visual Arts offers a $10,000 grant to support MFA students and artists from underrepresented groups. This fellowship aids in job-search expenses or purchasing materials for their studio practice. Recipients also receive a one-year CAA membership and free registration to the Annual Conference. Honorable Mentions will also receive membership and conference registration. This initiative promotes diversity and provides crucial support to emerging artists in their professional journey.

The New Foundation for Art History (NFAH) offers innovative non-residential fellowships for mid-career scholars, emphasizing excellence in research across various art eras and cultures. Established in 2019, NFAH aims to support scholars from U.S. institutions, particularly those at smaller schools, with grants up to $50,000 to aid in their research endeavors. The initiative promotes diversity and equity within the field, ensuring that scholars receive the resources they need to thrive.

The New Foundation for Art History (NFAH) offers Fellowships for Contingent Faculty to address the growing reliance on contingent positions in art history. Launched in 2019, these fellowships provide $10,000 to $15,000 for each summer, up to $45,000 over three years. By accommodating the unique schedules of contingent faculty, NFAH aims to support research and publication efforts, facilitating career advancement and promoting equity within the discipline.

The New Foundation for Art History (NFAH), established in 2019, aims to innovate within the art history field by addressing gaps left by other institutions. Offering five publication subvention grants of $1,000 to $5,000, NFAH prioritizes applications from U.S. scholars, especially those in underrepresented areas. With a commitment to diversity and equity, NFAH adapts its initiatives based on community feedback, fostering excellence in research and publication.

4-H Karen Macleod Memorial Scholarship

The purpose of Karen Macleod Memorial Scholarship is to honor the life of Karen Macleod by providing scholarships to graduating students in Carroll County who have participated in 4-H programs (sheep or horses) as outlined in the criteria.

Taka Domingo HLP Vocational Scholarship

The HLP Hamakua Community Foundation is a non-profit organization that was formed to benefit the people of Hamakua. Taka Domingo was one of the original board members when HLP was established after the closure of sugar. He was an electrician and County Councilman representing the Hamakua District. The Taka Domingo HLP Vocational Scholarship was established after his death in August 2016. 

Individual award amount: $2,000. 

Possible trades include: welding, tourism, fire science, electrical, early childhood education, agriculture, auto body, auto mechanics, diesel mechanics, carpentry, culinary and others not listed.

Community Foundation for Northeast Florida

The Community Foundation for Northeast Florida connects people who care with causes that matter. Talen Charles Birt Memorial Scholarship

The Talen Charles Birt Memorial Scholarship will provide financial assistance for students graduating from Andrew Jackson, First Coast, Jean Ribault, or William M. Raines High Schools in Duval County. In selecting the successful candidate, the review committee will consider the students’ demonstrated commitment to academics and leadership, plans to pursue a 2- or 4-year degree and can articulate why they have selected their area of study, and financial need. The one-time scholarship will support tuition and books, up to $2,000.

The Hearst Journalism Awards Program, established in 1960, supports college journalism education by awarding scholarships and grants for excellence in journalism. The 2024-2025 program offers $700,000 across various competitions in writing, photojournalism, audio, television, and multimedia, allowing each university to submit two entries per competition. Open to undergraduate journalism majors and minors, this program aims to encourage student participation and recognizes outstanding journalistic work in diverse formats.

The Hearst Journalism Awards Program, established in 1960, offers scholarships for exceptional performance in journalism at the collegiate level, with a total of up to $700,000 in awards. This program includes various competitions across writing, photojournalism, audio, television, and multimedia formats. Open to undergraduate journalism majors and minors from accredited institutions, it encourages students to showcase their work and gain recognition in the field of journalism.

The Hearst Journalism Awards Program, established in 1960, supports undergraduate journalism education through a range of competitions and substantial awards totaling up to $700,000. Open to students enrolled in ACEJMC-accredited institutions, the program encourages excellence in writing, photojournalism, audio, television, and multimedia. With opportunities for individual and group submissions, it aims to foster talent and enrich the field of journalism, while the Hearst Foundation continues its legacy of educational philanthropy.

The Feasibility Clinical Trials of Mind and Body Interventions grant aims to support trials that examine complementary and integrative health approaches for high-priority NCCIH research topics. This opportunity seeks to gather essential data for designing future efficacy studies, focusing on aspects such as feasibility, acceptability, and recruitment strategies. The goal is to bridge gaps in scientific knowledge and enhance public health impact through rigorous clinical research. Applicants are encouraged to contact NCCIH representatives for guidance.

The Local President Release Grant, offered by the National Education Association, aims to support local associations by providing financial assistance for the release of local presidents. This program facilitates critical leadership work, professional development, and member engagement within the community. Eligible local associations, including those offering part-time release, can apply to enhance their capacity without compromising existing programs. The initiative ultimately strengthens the effectiveness of local associations in achieving NEA's strategic priorities.

The NCCIH Multi-Site Feasibility Clinical Trials (R01) invites applications for clinical trials focused on mind and body interventions. This program emphasizes the need for multisite feasibility studies to gather essential data for future efficacy trials. The initiative is designed to enhance public health by addressing gaps in scientific knowledge related to the delivery, recruitment, and data collection of integrative health approaches. Deadlines for submissions range from February 2025 to October 2026.

Gerald C. Bulkeley Scholarship Fund 

The Gerald C. Bulkeley Scholarship Fund was established by his family to honor his legacy of service to the Abingdon community. A graduate of Abingdon High School, Mr. Bulkeley was dedicated to supporting young people through civic and educational leadership.

This scholarship is available for students attending school in District 276 and residing within the boundaries of former District 217. The student will receive the scholarship award each year for four years.
