Rapid Impact Research Award

Purpose

The American Heart Association continuously seeks innovative ideas to address the most pressing issues impacting cardiovascular and brain health. To that end, the Association is pleased to announce the Rapid Impact Research Award program, which will support early and mid-career investigators proposing innovative research that aligns with the Association’s mission. Novel basic, clinical and/or population health proposals are invited in the following three priority areas of research.

• Sudden cardiac arrest/resuscitation science
• Cardiovascular Kidney Metabolic Syndrome
• Stroke and/or vascular dementia

Applicants will be asked to indicate alignment of their proposal with one or more of the topic areas listed above. 

The OWEB Operating Capacity Grants support watershed councils and soil and water conservation districts in their operational costs. These biennial grants foster community engagement in voluntary watershed restoration efforts. By funding 45 districts, the program aids in conserving natural resources and enhances water quality through collaborative practices. The Council Capacity Grants specifically empower councils to restore native fish habitats and improve watershed functions, ensuring sustainable water management and healthier ecosystems.

The Community Forestry Grants Program by Texas A&M Forest Service aims to foster sustainable urban forestry initiatives, enhancing community resilience against climate change while promoting health equity. Each grant, worth $50,000, supports projects that develop diverse tree cover and improve public access to green spaces, particularly in historically disadvantaged areas. Eligible entities include public and non-profit organizations, focusing on innovative solutions that integrate urban forestry into community planning and wellness strategies.

The County-wide and Regional Funding Program by the California State Water Board aims to support counties and eligible partners in addressing drought and contamination issues for disadvantaged communities. Funding is available through the SAFER Program to implement regional programs targeting state small water systems and domestic wells. Eligible recipients include counties and NGOs, with projects focusing on assessments, domestic well testing, and interim solutions like bottled water. The program is vital for enhancing water resilience in underserved areas.

The Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation provides grants aimed at combating hunger in the U.S. and Canada, focusing on direct food assistance, food rescue, and nutrition education. Eligible organizations can receive up to $10,000 in funding, with an average grant size of $5,000. Since its inception, the Foundation has awarded over $2 million to support local food programs, ensuring communities have access to essential resources and assistance for those in need.

The Places and Spaces Program aims to enhance neighborhoods in Hampton by funding collaborative projects that improve public spaces. Eligible organizations can apply for grants up to $150,000 for projects like entryway improvements and community enhancements. Emphasis is placed on inclusivity and strategic planning to ensure that projects reflect community priorities. Applications must be submitted 30 days prior to the grant application deadline, ensuring adequate preparation and community involvement.

The Amelia Peabody Foundation Grant aims to enhance educational opportunities for disadvantaged youth in Massachusetts. This private foundation supports 501(c)(3) organizations, focusing on projects that promote leadership and community engagement. Grants can apply to new or existing programs, capital acquisitions, and facility improvements. The Foundation particularly favors initiatives outside Boston, encouraging replication of successful programs in other areas, and prioritizes organizations that employ community members.

Environmental Stewardship: Research Grants

FAO, through its Environmental Stewardship Pillar of Prosperity Fund, offers funding opportunities to advance conservation, environmental stewardship and the greater well-being of Appalachian Ohio.

FAO welcomes proposals for projects that result in scalable change, with a priority for projects that will impact multiple counties. FAO will consider funding requests between $5,000 and $50,000 per project, and at least $150,000 is available to award. We encourage applicants to propose research with the potential to significantly impact the understanding of aquatic biodiversity, water quality and threats to healthy habitats. The following examples illustrate eligible projects, but proposals are not limited to the listed areas.

The initiative emphasizes transparency, governance, and in-depth reporting to combat illegal wildlife trade and harmful extraction practices.

The Hope APFED/AAAAI Grant Award aims to support innovative research projects related to Eosinophilic Disorders, excluding asthma, rhinitis, and eczema. This initiative encourages collaboration between the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology and the American Partnership for Eosinophilic Disorders, providing a platform for independent researchers to secure future funding. Applicants must be AAAAI members and hold relevant academic positions, ensuring a commitment to advancing knowledge in allergy and immunology.

AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP Opportunity

About RSVP

Established in 1971 and now one of the largest senior volunteer programs in the nation, AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP engages people ages 55 and older in a diverse range of volunteer activities. AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP volunteers tutor children, help prepare simple taxes, assist victims of natural disasters, provide nutrition/food support, facilitate opioid and substance abuse education workshops, and serve in their communities in many other ways. AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP volunteers choose how, where, and how often they want to serve, with commitments ranging from a few hours to a maximum of 40 hours per week. While serving, AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP volunteers improve their own lives by staying active and civically engaged. 

Funding Priorities

AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP programming is designed to meet community needs. Applicants may propose activities intended to address community needs by thoroughly explaining the unmet need and activities to be completed by volunteers to address that need. In addition, AmeriCorps is interested in programming that addresses agency priorities. AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP priorities for this funding opportunity are:

• Supporting Older Adults and Caregivers: Provide respite, support groups, system navigation, care coordination, and resources for older adults, including custodial grandparents, and caregivers.
• Helping Older Adults Re-enter the Workforce: Offer job readiness, mentoring, training, and remove barriers to employment for older adults (volunteers provide services, not seek jobs).
• Building Strong Families: Support parents in helping children succeed, mentor parents, connect families to resources, and strengthen community partnerships.
• Preventing and Mitigating Fraud and Scams: Use digital navigators and other strategies to protect older adults from financial fraud and exploitation, including emerging AI-driven scams.
• Reducing Homelessness: Develop or renovate affordable housing, assist people experiencing homelessness in finding and maintaining permanent housing, and address housing needs for vulnerable populations.
• Supporting Behavioral Health Initiatives: Improve mental health, reduce isolation, prevent substance use, provide harm reduction tools (Naloxone, fentanyl test strips), peer support, and recovery services.

Award Funding Requirements

Applicants must construct the budget in the following manner. The federal share of the budget must not exceed $75,000 plus up to $350 for every unduplicated volunteer, whether or not they serve in an outcome-based work plan. 

The Cochran Family Youth Fund Grant aims to enhance the quality of life for children in Winchester and surrounding counties by financing educational, athletic, and community activities. Established by Douglas E. Cochran, this grant emphasizes support for nonprofits dedicated to youth welfare, encouraging projects that demonstrate a history of success in the community. Eligibility is limited to organizations with 501(c)(3) status that serve the local area, excluding sectarian or political uses.

The Minnesota Department of Health is offering funding for innovative HIV Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) programs aimed at reducing HIV transmission in rural communities. With a total of up to $600,000 available, the initiative seeks to increase HIV screenings, referrals, and prescriptions, ultimately promoting health equity and supporting the local END HIV MN plan. Organizations that can effectively implement and evaluate these programs are encouraged to apply.

The Tennessee Housing Trust Fund Competitive Grants support the development and preservation of rental housing for low- and very-low income households, including the elderly and special needs populations. Eligible projects can receive funding between $100,000 and $600,000, focusing on those with incomes at or below 80% of the area median income. Priority is given to projects in rural areas and those serving the most vulnerable populations, ensuring access to safe and affordable housing.

The Virginia ABC Grants provide funding of up to $10,000 for organizations aiming to prevent underage and high-risk drinking. Through community collaboration and education, these grants support various entities including schools and nonprofits. The program focuses on building capacity for effective alcohol education and emphasizes prevention efforts. Eligible applicants must align with the mission to promote alcohol safety and responsibility, ensuring a significant impact on community health and well-being.

History

The CKCF based in Newton, Kansas is thriving as a viable community foundation serving Newton while also being host to numerous affiliate community foundations throughout central Kansas. The Central Kansas Community Foundation was originally founded in 1994. Following a stable history serving a tri-county area the foundation merged in 2009 with the well-established Greater Newton Community Foundation. Today, the CKCF continues to demonstrate a commitment to strengthening communities across the entire Central Kansas region.

Wayne Willis Foundation Scholarship Fund

The scholarship was established to provide financial assistance to current graduating high school seniors or college/graduate students who are furthering their careers through a degree in wildlife management or conservation of natural resources.

The AAAAI Allied Health Recognition Award honors non-physician members who have significantly contributed to allergy and immunology education or research. As part of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology, this award emphasizes the importance of allied health professionals in advancing patient care. Eligible recipients include AAAAI Allied Health members who demonstrate excellence in their field, ensuring that contributions to the specialty are recognized and celebrated.

The AAAAI Distinguished Clinician Award honors individuals with a significant impact on allergy, asthma, and immunology. Recognizing those dedicated to patient care and clinical research, the award emphasizes excellence in diagnosing and treating allergic diseases. Recipients are selected based on their extensive clinical research and contributions to the field, including published works and presentations at national and international meetings. This prestigious recognition reflects the important role of clinicians in advancing allergy and immunology practices.

Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA)

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) is committed to ensuring that every Minnesotan has healthy air, sustainable lands, clean water, and a better climate.

Through the authority of state and federal statutes and guidelines, the MPCA focuses on preventing and reducing the pollution of air, land, and water, and leads Minnesota’s efforts to protect against the devastating effects of climate change. We work with regulated parties, businesses, governments, organizations, and 11 Tribal Nations in Minnesota to develop innovative, community-centered approaches that protect our natural resources, improve human health, and foster strong economic growth.

Statewide recycling market development grants

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) is accepting grant applications for projects that will build lasting capacity to support recycling markets in Minnesota. The grant money must help Minnesota businesses and other entities to use recyclable material in their products, thereby increasing local demand for recyclable material. Grant money also can be used to process recyclable material into a higher value material for use in new products.

Recycling is a cost-effective way to handle waste, and it has social, economic, and environmental benefits. We need recycling markets to help create and maintain demand for recyclables. Without these end markets that use or process a recyclable material, we do not have recycling. 

Available funds

Approximately $800,000 is available. The minimum individual grant amount should be no less than $50,000. The maximum individual grant amount is $300,000. Grantees will be required to provide a 20% match of the grant award (cash or in-kind).

The AAAAI Distinguished Layperson Award recognizes non-medical citizens for their significant contributions to the field of allergy, asthma, and immunology. Established by the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology (AAAAI), this annual award honors individuals who have promoted public education, supported research, and influenced positive change in legislation related to allergies. This acknowledgment reflects the growing importance of citizen volunteers in advancing the specialty and improving patient care.

Morris Animal Foundation invites Established Investigators to submit pre-proposals for research focused on reptile and amphibian health. This initiative emphasizes the importance of animal health and welfare while facilitating impactful conservation efforts. Proposals must demonstrate clear animal health needs, collaborative strategies, and potential benefits to wildlife populations. Funding for these projects is anticipated to average around $100,000 over a maximum duration of 36 months, fostering innovative solutions for pressing health challenges in these species.

The Oregon State Weed Board Grant Program, administered by the Oregon Department of Agriculture and OWEB, focuses on controlling noxious weeds to protect water quality and restore watershed health. Eligible applicants include tribes, colleges, and conservation districts, with an emphasis on integrated weed management strategies. Projects must prioritize on-the-ground control efforts and demonstrate clear site management objectives. This funding opportunity aims to enhance fish and wildlife habitats and support native salmonid populations.

The City of Hillsboro Community Impact Grant provides up to $120,000 in funding for nonprofit organizations to address community concerns over three years. Organizations can submit one application per cycle and must be qualified 501(c)(3) nonprofits serving Hillsboro residents. Priority areas are identified collaboratively, focusing on unique projects that deliver measurable outcomes and financial stability, especially in housing stability initiatives.
