Each year, the DCF awards millions of dollars in grants to support the work of nonprofits addressing Delaware’s greatest needs and opportunities, with an eye to building opportunity and advancing equity.

21st Century Children's Fund: Education or Financial Assistance

Education programming or Financial assistance programs for at-risk children or young adults up to age 21 to participate in programs or experiences that help them define their strengths, improve their self-esteem, and build a sense of hope for the future. 

These small grants will fund programs that have a direct line of sight to the child or children benefiting from funding. These programs can include but not limited to scholarships, field trip experiences, extra-curricular activities and more for at-risk children or young adults up to age 21. 

The Future Youth Involvement (FYI) Fund, managed by the Youth Advisory Council of the Tuscola County Community Foundation, supports community-driven initiatives with over $1 million in assets. Comprised of students from nine local schools, FYI fosters leadership and philanthropy through grant making, fundraising, and youth assessments. Grants are available for diverse charitable programs benefiting Tuscola County residents, with specific eligibility criteria for applicants, ensuring impactful contributions to the community.

The Future Youth Involvement (FYI) Fund Mini Grant, managed by the Tuscola County Community Foundation, empowers school-sanctioned student organizations to engage in philanthropy and leadership. With up to $250 available per organization, FYI fosters community improvement through grants for diverse educational and cultural projects. Applications are accepted throughout the academic year, encouraging student initiative and participation while ensuring oversight by school authorities. This initiative aims to cultivate responsible youth leadership and enhance the quality of life in Tuscola County.

More About Direct State Aid

Direct State Aid funding is distributed to participating public libraries through a formula that calculates:

• A base amount dependent on Tier Level met, as set by the Accreditation & Standards program.
• The per capita amount based on the population of the city and level of compliance with quality measures.
• Three percent of the amount of funding received by the library in the previous fiscal year for service to rural residents and contracting communities.

The Wagner Family Fund supports libraries in Cattaraugus and Allegany counties, providing grants between $100 and $2,000 for educational programming and activities for youth and adults. Eligible applicants include tax-exempt organizations and governmental units, with a focus on community service. The fund prioritizes projects that build organizational capacity and address community needs, while generally excluding for-profit organizations and those with discriminatory practices.

The Five Wings Arts Council offers the Community Arts Access Project Grants to support Minnesota non-profit organizations, schools, and governmental units in enhancing arts programming. Grants can fund new cultural activities or enrich existing ones, with a maximum award of $5,000. Applications are reviewed quarterly, and projects must occur within the five counties served by the Council. This initiative aims to boost local arts and provide educational opportunities, fostering community engagement through the arts.

American Physical Society

The American Physical Society is a nonprofit membership organization working to advance physics by fostering a vibrant, inclusive, and global community dedicated to science and society. APS represents more than 50,000 members, including physicists in academia, national laboratories, and industry in the United States and around the world.

APS Honors recognizes and celebrates the accomplishments of the global physics community. Guided by our core values, APS Honors encourages nominations that reflect the full range of talent, distinction, and experience in our field, and supports broad canvassing for professional achievement across diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and expertise.

John Dawson Award for Excellence in Plasma Physics Research

Recognizes a particular recent outstanding achievement in plasma physics research.

The award consists of $5,000, a certificate citing the contributions made by the recipient, and a travel reimbursement of up to $2,000 to attend the APS Division of Plasma Physics (DPP) meeting. Information on allowable travel expenses appears here.

In the case of multiple recipients, the stipend and travel reimbursement will be divided equally.

The recipient will receive a DPP meeting registration waiver. In the event of a team larger than five (5), DPP may cap the number of registration waivers.

It will be awarded annually.

Nominations will be considered for three review cycles provided the nominator re-certifies the nomination before the next deadline.

Prior to 2007, this award was originally named the Award for Excellence in Plasma Physics.

The J. Knox Gholston Foundation Grant, administered by Bank of America, focuses on enhancing the lives of underserved communities in Georgia. It prioritizes funding for human services, education, healthcare, arts, and environmental initiatives. The foundation's mission is to support charitable organizations that promote educational opportunities for children in Comer, GA, with a particular interest in capital and instructional projects that foster academic success.

James Clerk Maxwell Prize for Plasma Physics

Recognizes outstanding contributions to the field of plasma physics.

The prize consists of $10,000, a certificate citing the contributions made by the recipient, and a travel reimbursement of up to $2,000 to attend the APS Division of Plasma Physics (DPP) meeting. Information on allowable travel expenses appears here.

The recipient will be asked to deliver an invited talk at the DPP meeting and will receive a meeting registration waiver.

The prize will be presented annually.

Nominations will be considered for three review cycles provided the nominator re-certifies the nomination before the next deadline.

The Budding Botanist Grant, offered by the Klorane Botanical Foundation, aims to educate students about environmental sustainability and biodiversity through school garden programs. In 2023, grants of $1000 will be awarded to twenty schools across the U.S., prioritizing those with a significant percentage of students eligible for free or reduced-price meals. This initiative encourages young learners to explore and care for their local ecosystems.

The ASPCA Research Grants support innovative research aimed at enhancing animal welfare. With a total funding amount of $440,000, the grants are open to various research areas including cruelty research, access to veterinary care, applied behavior, psychological trauma, and farm animal welfare. Eligible applicants include U.S. public or private entities and Canadian universities. The maximum individual grant amounts vary by research area, encouraging impactful studies that directly benefit animals.

The Animal Welfare Endowment Fund Grant, established by the Community Foundation of the North State, aims to support organizations dedicated to the welfare and care of animals in Shasta, Siskiyou, and Tehama counties. This grant provides general support to eligible nonprofits, public entities, and fiscally-sponsored projects that promote the welfare of pets, wildlife, and working animals, emphasizing collaboration and data-driven impact.

The East and Inner Asia Council of the AAS offers small grants up to $2,000 for dissertation-level students and scholars focusing on China, Taiwan, or Inner Asia. Eligible projects include short research trips and conference organization. Preference is given to junior scholars and projects that enhance communication and curriculum development. The Kronkosky Charitable Foundation Grant focuses on supporting initiatives that enhance community vibrancy through arts, culture, and conservation. The foundation prioritizes funding for organizations dedicated to preserving natural spaces and protecting wildlife. It serves nonprofit agencies in specific Texas counties while excluding general environmental projects. This grant embodies innovation and compassion, aiming to uplift vulnerable populations and foster sustainable community growth.

ADECA Community Development Block Grant (CDBG)

The Community Development Block Grant program is funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and the State of Alabama has administered the program since 1982.

The program is available to all non-entitlement communities (those not receiving direct funds from HUD) that meet applicable thresholds

All projects must meet one of the three national objectives:

• Benefit at least 51% low and moderate income persons
• Aid in the prevention or clearance of slum and blight
• Meet an urgent need

The State is required to write an action plan each year for approval by HUD that shows how the State intends to distribute the funds. Since the beginning, Alabama has distributed the majority of funds through competition among communities.

Planning Fund

CED administers a small Planning Fund that allows communities to develop communitywide comprehensive plans and downtown revitalization plans.

L3Harris Technologies partners with PLTW to inspire PreK-12 students in STEM education. The program provides $20,000 in grants to schools starting or expanding PLTW Computer Science courses in the 2025-2026 academic year. Eligible public and charter schools in specified counties can receive funding to support diverse and economically challenged communities. This initiative aims to enhance educational opportunities and ensure students gain essential skills for future careers in technology and engineering.

The Libraries Transform Communities Engagement Grant, provided by the American Library Association, aims to support innovative community engagement projects in libraries. This annual grant awards $2,000 to two selected libraries, focusing on themes of community empowerment. Eligible applicants include various library types in the U.S. and U.S. territories, and projects must demonstrate community collaboration and creativity. Libraries are encouraged to submit proposals that reflect local needs and foster civic participation.

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) is offering up to $3.9 million in funding under Program Opportunity Notice (PON) 6021. This program supports the development of innovative maritime vessels for efficient bulk hydrogen transport over short- to medium-distance routes. The initiative aims to overcome logistical barriers and enhance hydrogen infrastructure deployment within New York State, inviting proposals from experienced teams in the maritime and hydrogen sectors.

The Investing in Artists: Tools & Equipment Grant, offered by the Center for Cultural Innovation, provides funding between $1,000 and $5,000 for individual craft artists in the U.S. to purchase essential tools and equipment. This program aims to enhance the creative support system, enabling artists to produce object-based work and meet safety standards. Eligible applicants must demonstrate a commitment to their craft and have presented public artistic work within the last three years.

Texas State Library and Archives Commission

The Texas State Library and Archives Commission has been serving the people of Texas for more than a century. Since 1909, when the state founded the agency, we have been supporting the reading, learning, and historical preservation needs of Texas and its people. 

Going back to the days of the Republic, there has always been an official library and archives of Texas. While fulfilling our unique and longstanding place serving Texas government, the State Library and Archives Commission mission is also to ensure that citizens have information they need to lead informed, productive, and fulfilled lives.

Family Place Libraries™ Grant 

The Family Place Libraries Training Institute (Family Place) provides theoretical grounding and practical training for library staff in family-centered library services. By expanding the traditional role of children's services, Family Place participants build on the knowledge that good health, early learning, parent or guardian involvement, and supportive communities play a critical role in young children's growth and development.

Family Place participants will be able to create the network that families need to nurture their children's development during the critical first years of life. Family Place provides training and resources to help participants redesign their library environment to:

• Create a welcoming and developmentally appropriate environment for children beginning at birth.
• Connect parents with the resources, programs, and services offered at the library and other family service agencies.
• Connect with non-traditional library users.
• Ensure children have access to resources that will allow them to enter school ready and able to learn.

The Family Place Libraries model was developed by the Middle Country Public Library in Centereach, New York. Currently, there are 126 Family Place library locations in Texas. 

Applicants may submit an application to become a new Family Place Library or expand their current program to an additional location. 

The Bailey Opportunity Grants, funded by the Arts & Culture Alliance of Greater Knoxville, support individual artists and small arts organizations. Applicants must be local residents, at least 18 years old, and demonstrate prior artistic work. The grants aim to enhance professional growth for 501(c)(3) designated entities and provide opportunities for Knoxville's creative community, promoting cultural engagement and artistic development in the region.

The Douglas Community Fund Grant offers competitive grants aimed at supporting medical and other community needs within Douglas County. Applications are welcomed for the spring cycle, prioritizing a diverse array of projects that benefit the region. Established by the Douglas Community Foundation, the program continues to focus on addressing essential medical needs, reflecting its origins in supporting local healthcare facilities.

The Minde Browning Professional Development Fund Grant, established by The Indianapolis Foundation, supports professional development activities for library staff in Marion County. Grants of up to $1,500 are available for attending conferences, workshops, and courses that enhance skills and benefit library patrons. Applicants must demonstrate how their development will positively impact their community. Applications are accepted year-round, with a 60-day advance notice required.

The RISCA Project Grants for Organizations program offers funding up to $3,000 to support arts and culture projects that benefit Rhode Island communities. This entry-level grant program is designed for non-profit organizations that demonstrate a commitment to engaging with historically marginalized groups. The initiative aims to enhance cultural vibrancy and equity in the arts, ensuring all Rhode Islanders have access to meaningful artistic experiences.

The DAAD North America program offers funding for faculty and students to organize interdisciplinary workshops and conferences focused on German studies. Supported by the German Foreign Office, it aims to enhance understanding of Germany's cultural, political, and economic landscape in North America. Projects must be well-defined and financially supported by at least 50% from other sources, excluding transatlantic travel and overhead costs. This initiative encourages collaboration and engagement in the humanities and social sciences.

The MacRobert Trust Horticultural Training Scheme offers hands-on training for up to six trainees annually, providing them with accommodation and a salary at the National Minimum Wage. Trainees engage in practical horticultural skills development while assisting professional gardens teams, and they receive training towards RHS qualifications. The program also includes internships at renowned gardens and is ideal for new entrants and those changers in horticulture. Applications for the 2024/25 cycle are open until April 12, 2024.
