Julius Edgar Lilienfeld Prize

The Julius Edgar Lilienfeld Prize recognizes outstanding contributions to physics and exceptional skills in lecturing to diverse audiences. The prize consists of $20,000, a certificate citing the contributions made by the recipient, an allowance for travel to the APS Medal and Prize Ceremony and Reception in Washington, DC, and an invited talk at an APS March or April Meeting, plus expenses for the three lectures by the recipient given at an APS meeting, a research university, and a predominantly undergraduate institution. The prize will be presented annually.

Nominations will be considered for three review cycles provided the nominator re-certifies the nomination before the next deadline.

The prize consists of $5,000 and a certificate citing the contributions made by the recipient. It is presented annually.

Jonathan F. Reichert & Barbara Wolff-Reichert Award for Excellence in Advanced Laboratory Instruction

This award is to recognize and honor outstanding achievement in teaching, sustaining (for at least four years), and enhancing an advanced undergraduate laboratory course or courses at U.S. institutions. The course(s) should provide a selection of experiments in a range of the various interest areas of physics, for example atomic physics, electronics and optics.

The award consists of $5,000 plus travel expenses (up to $2,000) to attend an APS meeting at which the award is presented, and a certificate citing the achievement of the honoree. The honoree will be invited to present a lecture at that meeting. The award will be offered annually.

John Wheatley Award

To recognize the dedication of physicists who have made contributions to the development of physics across the globe. The award will consist of a stipend of $5,000 and a certificate citing the contributions made by the recipient. The award will be presented biennially, every odd-numbered year, at the general meeting of the American Physical Society.

Nominations will be considered for two review cycles provided the nominator re-certifies the nomination before the next deadline.

The Independent Social Research Foundation (ISRF) offers Political Economy Fellowships aimed at scholars in Europe with permanent academic positions. The NYSCA Support for Sponsored Organizations grant provides flexible funding for eligible New York State nonprofit organizations to enhance their arts programming and general operations. Organizations must prequalify with the State Financial System before applying. This initiative aims to support the diverse arts and cultural landscape in New York, ensuring that all communities have access to rich artistic experiences. The grant is intended for organizations that may not yet be incorporated or are part of larger institutions.

Southwest Virginia Hydrogen Hub

The Virginia Department of Energy is launching a program to encourage hydrogen production in the Southwest Virginia (SWVA) region and its use across the Commonwealth. The primary objective of this initiative is to tackle energy issues critical to hydrogen energy while promoting economic development in SWVA.

The program invites proposals from entities operating in the Southwest region of the Commonwealth.

Program Overview

Virginia Energy invites proposals for establishing planning grants of $250,000 each to support the potential for the development of the hydrogen production industry in the Southwestern Virginia region. The effects of the downturn of the coal industry have severely impacted the low-income and disadvantaged communities of the coalfields. Southwest Virginia is uniquely positioned to take advantage of this opportunity. The repurposing of previously mined land and development of energy-ready industrial sites with access to abundant water, natural gas, and on-site rail are ideal for creating a hydrogen production hub in the region.

This program represents a significant step toward a cleaner and more sustainable future for the citizens of the commonwealth, particularly those that have been historically underserved.

Dunham Foundation Education Grant

We are excited to share changes to our Education Grant Request timeline. These shifts are designed to streamline applications and support your educational programs to best serve youth and educational professionals in our community.

Supports educational programming, particularly programming scheduled to begin during the school year or summer.

Funded organizations are expected to submit a financial and program report at the conclusion of the grant. Reporting requirements will be outlined in the approval process and grant agreements. The reporting form will be available through the grant portal.

The Arts & Culture and Strengthening Lorain County Community Grants Cycle offers vital support for local organizations focused on enhancing community engagement through arts and culture. Eligible applicants must be 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations operating within Lorain County. The program prioritizes innovative projects that address community needs while requiring previous grant reporting to be completed before new applications. This initiative fosters collaboration and sustainable development in the region.

The Community Clean Energy Grant Program, launched by San Diego Community Power (SDCP) in March 2023, aims to fund local clean energy projects through grants ranging from $25,000 to $100,000. Partnering with the San Diego Foundation, the program will distribute over $1 million to enhance community resilience and promote sustainable energy solutions. Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) nonprofits with proven community service experience. Grant funds must be utilized within 24 months to ensure timely project execution.

The Jack A. & Gertrude W. Wilson Animal Welfare Fund, established by the Gulf Coast Community Foundation, supports local animal welfare programs in Mississippi. It provides grants to public charities that focus on the welfare of companion animals. Eligible organizations must be located in specific counties and can apply for funding for various programs, including spay and neuter initiatives and community education efforts. Grants are limited to 8% for administrative costs.

Resist.

Resist is a foundation that supports people’s movements for justice and liberation. We redistribute resources back to frontline communities at the forefront of change while amplifying their stories of building a better world.

Our grant-making: Throughout this history, Resist has provided critical early funding to some of the most influential progressive organizations in the U.S. In total, Resist has granted more than $12 million to over 6,000 dedicated groups across the United States.

Urgent Action Fund

The 2026 Urgent Action Fund resources organizations with urgent projects or requests that include, but are not limited to, events, direct actions, accessibility, and mutual aid. Applications will open on the last Monday and close the following Friday of each month until cap has been reached. Projects that reflect escalated resistance, campaigns, events, projects or programmatic work will be prioritized.

The Arts Organization Development Grant offers up to $10,000 for nonprofit arts organizations in Benton, Sherburne, Stearns, and Wright counties. This funding supports activities that enhance organizational sustainability, growth, and improve access to the arts. Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) organizations and arts groups seeking nonprofit status. The grant promotes a vibrant arts community, ensuring diverse artistic expression and fostering collaboration while enhancing the overall quality of life in the region.

The WMU Department of Chemistry offers the Dr. Don Berndt Endowment for Chemistry, established in 2013 to support outstanding graduate students. This scholarship is awarded to full-time students serving as effective teaching assistants in general or organic chemistry courses, with a minimum GPA of 3.0. The endowment honors Professor Emeritus Don Berndt and aims to enhance the educational experience of students within the chemistry program.

The Bloomhall Family Grant, offered by the Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation, supports nonprofit organizations in Linn County, Iowa. This grant focuses on health-related activities and is available for programmatic or capital purposes. Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) organizations and those with fiscal sponsors. Grants are awarded for a duration of 12 months, enhancing community impact through various funding opportunities. Distinguished Welder Award

This award recognizes an individual whose welding skills and experience would earn them the recognition of being an AWS Distinguished Welder.

Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4), and 501(c)(6) nonprofits, focusing on capacity building and public arts programming. This initiative aims to foster community engagement and promote vibrant cultural experiences through performances, exhibits, and festivals, ensuring access to the arts for all residents.

The Heather Began Memorial Education Fund, established by Robert and Julie Began in memory of their daughter Heather, supports K-5 educators in Altamont, Illinois, and Tempe, Arizona. This fund aims to enhance classroom experiences through grants of $500. Heather's legacy as a dedicated teacher inspires the initiative, which seeks to empower educators to foster creativity and learning in their classrooms.

The Land & Building Acquisition Program, administered by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, aims to enhance the quality of life for Illinois residents through funding for land acquisition and capital improvements. With a total grant amount of $1,000,000, applicants are required to submit detailed project narratives and budgets, demonstrating the scope of their projects and the anticipated impact on the community. The AWI Refinement Research Award, offered by the Animal Welfare Institute, supports innovative projects aimed at enhancing the welfare of animals used in experimentation. With a funding opportunity of up to $15,000, applicants can propose methods to reduce pain and distress, promote species-appropriate care, and address animal abuse in laboratories. Applications are open until October 11, and eligibility is restricted to projects conducted in the U.S. or Canada.

The Cloyce and Barbara Johnson Education Grant, offered by the Southeastern Illinois Community Foundation, supports educators in Jasper County Community Unit 1. With two grants of $500 each available, this initiative honors Cloyce and Barbara's commitment to education. The couple's legacy continues to inspire local teachers, fostering an environment where students can thrive academically. This funding opportunity reflects the foundation's mission to enhance community welfare and promote philanthropic efforts in southeastern Illinois.

The Barbara Upton Wilson Fund, managed by the Hampton Roads Community Foundation, supports 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations providing humane treatment and care for animals in southeastern Virginia. This grant aims to enhance the quality of life for animals, ensuring they receive necessary care. Eligible organizations include those from South Hampton Roads and the Virginia Peninsula. However, grants are not available for certain activities, including fundraising events or support for individuals.
